My Pros and Cons:
Pros: Money, travel, and vacation
Cons: away from home for too long, miss family/friends (hard to maintain relationships), miss most major events (birthdays, graduations, weddings, superbowls, christmas, etc.), as mentioned in the video, cannot do the things you love aka hobbies (snowboarding, surfing, horseback riding, hiking, weight lifting, etc.) lastly when you are on vacation it is hard not to spend money. Eventually, you'll be spending money everyday just doing things.
So, even though you are saving money on the ship, you spend a lot of money when youre off the ship. Ive been in the industry for 3 years and i am already burnt. (#class857)
Haha It’s impossible to leave the house without spending a minimum of $100 dollars I e found out. So I just try not to leave the house. Luckily my hobbies have surrounded around things at the new house purchase. Home renovations cost money but not as much as you think when you do it all yourself.
Good video! As a sailor turned shoresider, there are days I miss the shit out of the sailing! But for me, being home every night with my wife and kid and being there for him whenever is the best! Like you said….it all depends on the individual. Only you can decide what will be the reasons you still wanna sail or wanna step down that gangway and not look back.

Yes on the treadmill, but running while the ship is rolling isn’t as easy as you think.

Texting, calling on most all ships, possible FaceTime on some ships with good WiFi and there’s always satellite email!

I have a hobby of fishing do you think they would allow people to fish when there not working even share it with the crew?! I know every boat is different but have you seen any fishing poles on the ones you worked on
Yeah most every ship I been someone’s fishes or there’s fishing poles just for some catch and release. I’ve heard of ships cooking what they catch too!

Quick question what about phone service and internet? Can I use my phone everyday ?
There’s no phone service in the middle of the ocean. Most ships have WiFi now but no guarantee on how good the WiFi will be. Social media is pretty much out of the window. FaceTime calls will almost never work. Regular voice calls will work if the ship has good WiFi. Text messaging usually works.
