The bike is alot faster now in 2021 then back then.2 seconds a lap faster.Battle between a 1992 Yamaha FZR400RR and 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400 at Daytona.
So basically Japanese manufacturers are going backwards in 400cc to 250cc sports motorcycle categories. It's hilarious that FZR 400RR is running carburetors, imagine this engine with fuel injection.
It's mainly due to various countries adding age-licence restrictions, stopping younger riders from getting anything bigger than bikes like the ninja 400 / rc390
400s were a big deal back in Japan back in the 90s. They were higher spec than 600s of the period with aluminum frames and swingarms. It's also pretty hard for twin to compete with an inline 4 of the same displacement. And a brand new Ninja 400 will cost less than a nice 25 year old imported grey market 400.

Yeah, pretty sad really. Likely due to the extra equipment and conservative tuning for emissions.

It's been a few years since I have seen a Fzr400 on the market. Rare these days.

It is called strategy, sometimes you don't need to pass and wait for the laps to pass till the end, passing back and forth is slower sometimes.

I agree David. The Ninja has the advantage in the corners. When the Yamaha can take advantage of the draft on the straightaway, it has the advantage.

5 ft 6 in,that bike is made for smaller riders I believe.Its smaller and lighter weight then modern 600's. Mine is the 1992 3tj

127MPH,my 1988 does 130MPH but it is slower in the turns.
