    The title is pretty much is the embodiment of modern peformance and sports car's progression.
    Even I feel this way despite being a younger generation (approaching high/latter twenties) where all my peers are drooling over when to get a Tesla. Yet, I'm looking at air cooled Porsches or other classics instead.

    • @inflatable2
      @inflatable2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But the M5 is not a sports car, it's a very fast luxury sedan.. I think it does very well what it's supposed to do, best in class even..

    • @ZDY66666
      @ZDY66666 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@inflatable2 I didn't say M5 is a sports car. I ALSO never said it's a bad car or say anything negative about the M5. I said the title embodied modern sports car progression. Don't put words into my mouth man.

      Unfortunately this is what happens when people think that new cars should have every number on the spec sheet bigger than the outgoing one. The only company that update their car right is Mazda with their MX-5

    • @Kamukix
      @Kamukix 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Raprada I can't POSSIBLY agree any harder with this. Just because something is a new model doesn't mean that it has to have random spec bigger than the last one.
      I've been saying for a long time now that new cars while EXCELLENT performers....are just boring almost across the board. They're too capable at everything so they lack character that makes me desire them.

    • @inflatable2
      @inflatable2 6 ปีที่แล้ว

       @Riswan AP Unfortunately the new MX5 is just to small for me to fit properly (I'm 1.91m or 6.3").. So is the new Fiat 124 Spider which is the same car basically.. That's weird to me because I owned a classic Fiat 124 Sport Spider that did fit me.. Weird to see a modern 2018 equivalent to be smaller then a 1966 design model.. So now I drive a BMW Z4 30i E89 with lovely NA 3.0L 6-cylinder, no regrets..

    As the owner of an F90 M5, I can agree with this reviewers superlatives, but to say it's not fun, even though the F10 M5 he reviewed last year was "surprisingly fun", doesn't make any sense. Every review that I've read or viewed has commended BMW for returning their M car lineup to the performance cars that people remember. I've owned rowdy and raw cars when i was younger, but that only goes so far, before it loses its appeal. At this stage of my life, this car is the perfect blend of luxury with a heavy dose of what getting to triple digit numbers in the blink of an eye performance has to offer.

      Having drove an F10 M5, F82 M4 and F30 335i, I would say I can understand where Nick's coming from. Very quick, capable cars and FANTASTIC all-rounders, but let's be honest they don't have intangible raw emotion. I've drove a couple of E92's and none of them come close to making the senses tingle. Even the E46 gets the juices flowing more than the M4 imo.

    Everyone talks about the cars getting bigger...do you realize this is the second 5 series in a row that's lighter than its predecessor? WITH more power and technology and safety and speed etc etc. We gotta appreciate these cars more in their time, I guarantee you years from now everyone will be lusting over the F90.

  • @danesh70
    @danesh70 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Its so brilliant and so well done that it doesn't have any feel to it. You just dont have to do anything yourself. The car does it all. I can't stand it when reviewers dont take into account what the target audience for a certain car is. If you'd rather be driving a mustang and that's what you're comparing it to then you shouldn't be reviewing this car. This is a family sedan with 600 hp. It's for the family person that uses it to haul their kids plus groceries and uses it as a daily driver without making them nauseous yet still tear up a track if they want. Coming from a Maserati Ghibli a less than roaring exhaust note is actually a welcome change. This car should be reviewed for what it is and not compared to two door coupes.

      Nonsense. Like other clueless fools you apply attributes to a car that BMW never intended from the first generation. You don't decide what a M car is, BMW does and this new M5 is one of their finest. Stick to mostly being sort of clued up on gym related stuff.

  • @larryhoudini3331
    @larryhoudini3331 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I don't think anybody should be surprised a reviewer that owns a small, light, high revving, two-seat, sports car, would find this large, powerful, four-door sedan, to be less nimble and entertaining, than the car he presently drives. BMW has tried to build a large, luxurious, boulevard cruiser, that with some clever engineering can still be fun on the back-roads. It's not a car designed for a small niche market like the 911 or the Miata, but one that can carry four people comfortably at high speeds, and keep the driver engaged and entertained along the way.

    It’s all about the limit and living on the edge. A good car is one you can easily access it’s limit of power and grip or one that constantly tests your abilities as a driver and rewards you with certain noises as you achieve higher levels in the rev range. If everyone can drive it just as fast as the next guy and there’s no real sound it’s basically a golf cart as far as excitement.

    You have to drive the M5 properly.
    I had the chance to drive the F90 in RWD Mode on a Alpine mountain pass and had the time of my life!
    Compared to a M550i, the M5 feels like a whole segment smaller.
    Also the spectrum of having a fun RWD car which can set records on the one hand, and be comfortable in Stop-and-Go traffic (no jerky DCT) and practical with 4WD in the winter impressed me so much.
    I even would trade in this car against my M2 Competition if I had the extra money
    You can see, I realy fell in love with the new M5 :)

    "Remember the days when M cars were lightweight?" I do. It was the E30 M3. After that, no M car has been anywhere near lightweight. The modern equivalent to the E30 M3, just look at the specs and the layout, is the Toyota 86/ Subaru BRZ. To modern standards they aren't very quick (where will you use that?), but they sure are fun and have feel.
    If you want feel in an M5, just buy the competition version (we can in Europe anyway). But it won't be able to imitate limousine comfort anymore as a trade-off.

    • @onehorsepower
      @onehorsepower 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @128-192 then no M car was ever lightweight ;) But 500lbs is quite a significant difference anyhow, in my perfect world, M cars should have become lighter from the E30 on, not heavier. And any 'sports'car above 3000lbs cannot be denoted as light...
      That said, of all the modern big saloon stuff, this M5 is actually clearly the lightest, and actually lighter than the F10 M5 despite the addition of 4wd. And with a family to transport, I wouldn't mind an M5 competition...

    I also find that many newer versions of performance cars don't excite me like they used to 20 years ago. Part of it, I believe, is that the newer cars are faster yet "safer," e.g. they don't scare their drivers like the older cars used to. The electronic nanny-gizmos take care of the scare factor, even though the cars have more power. And we're (experienced drivers) older which means that we know what a real thrill in a performance car should feel like. So these newer cars just don't thrill us as the older cars used to do. Having faster yet safer cars, and being older with scary experiences, means we're just not as satisfied as we used to be, when we were younger with more dangerous cars. Man, I miss those days of living dangerously and not knowing it... lol

    Nick, nice review and drive-along, nothing really attention grabbing about this one. Have you done an M2 review yet/recently? Thanks !!

    Now would a 20 year old Nick get excited about this car? Or would a 60 year old Nick like it better?

    Does anyone know the torque split on the BMW Mxdrive? Just curious because was looking at Merc AMG C43 and its 31/69 front/rear. Live in an area with snow/mountains was curious if that form of AWD would be ok (obviously with winter tires) seems like a lot less to the front wheels than Audis system, but maybe I'm wrong, would not be the first time :). Cool video Nick!

    Hey Nick, as a direct comparison, carry out a review on the new E63 S AMG.
    I bet you will be excited and scared at high speeds in this car.
    Great sounding sports exhaust, a true all-rounder.
    Let us all know here.

    *Do the 0-200 Mph acceleration on the autobahn please!* Ohhh...I forgot..the largest industrialized country in the world has a road system better suited for donkey carts and speed limits designed for horses and snails

    I really liked that interior until you came up and close to it. It doesn't look premium with all that shiny plastics and those buttons don't click nicely at all, just not that well executed. I wonder if Merc and Audi are any better up close.

    The problem is humans only feel good when we excel over adversity. Anything given, with no cost, is rarely appreciated. Nick, said it best - the car just does everything too well to be fun. Put another way - perfection lies in the imperfections. Take someone with parts like a big broken looking nose, hips too large for the top, huge ears - yet, put them together you get Sandra Bullock - gorgeous!
    Yes - M2 Competition with a manual!!
