Awesome content! I'm pretty certain the sub against Healey is just an inside heel hook. With how Healey was trying to hide his heel, Nicky had to turn and elevate his hips to both get the grip on the heel, which Nicky has with one arm, and to apply proper counter-pressure into the knee. Healey turning to hide his heel also turns his knee, which means Nicky has to adjust the angle he has to apply pressure into the knee. Since he only had one arm securing the grip (his other making sure Healey didn't turn too quickly and slip his knee out), Nicky also had to apply stronger counter-pressure with his hips/thigh than he likely normally would've needed to with a more secure heel grip.

Great breakdown! Can't help but feel like many folks in the comment section didn't pay close attention to the final, however. It's a bit disingenuous to claim Dorsey spent the entire match just "trying to pass" Nicky's guard. In fact, I saw Dorsey apply constant pressure and absolutely dominate positionally. Further, Nicky never came CLOSE to any significant offensive movements from his guard during the entire fight. Dorsey was also VERY close to taking his back off a very clean double leg in OT. Again, Nicky is obviously a fantastic grappler and was on a tear all tournament, but Dorsey was flat out better during the final in ALL aspects.

I didnt get to watch the full finals match of Nicky Ryan but if the man cant score by passing Nicky guard then the Ref should have went with Nicky dec.
To be fair to Dorsey he was much more active, and he did hit a faux takedown that wasn't given points! All things balanced I think he did win it, but I am a huge Nicky Ryan fan so I was bummed.

Disagree about the last match. Dorsey played strategy, knew nicky wouldn’t be able to keep up with the pace. Which is why Ryan pulled guard, in overtime you could clearly see it had taken a toll on him, Dorsey didn’t score on the double leg, but it was as legit as it gets. Was absolutely way more active than nicky in pushing the pace the entire time. Even those attempted cartwheel passes at the end was just showing how much more gas he had in the tank. Ryan was gassed (I’m not saying I’d be close to better, trust me)
You either play strategy that will work against your opponent within the given rules, or play into theirs and see how it works out. Dorsey did the former, thought it was a great ending and definitely deserved the refs decision.
