I'm American and it sounds like the typical business motto in the United States. As the business grows we keep all the employees at the same pay so we bank all the money while our employees struggle to make a living.
I dunno If stingy is the word, but they’ve elected to up their spending on streaming rights/arena fees/production value/staffing etc exponentially as they’ve grown but their athlete pay has remained the same since the late 1990’s
But! Then someone like Craig Jones comes along and does what Americans should do and that is start a competing entity. Who will win… maybe Craig or maybe ADCC. I am rooting for Team Jones and I hope he gets rich doing it. An Aussie succeeding in the American way. What is more American than that.
@@justinjex1 Yeah nice try trying to make America sound great. No this has nothing to do with how great America is everything to do with how manipulative America is. And of course it took someone who's not from America to challenge typical American systems.

I remember when the Crossfit Games started out, the prize money was super low. But as Crossfit grew, the prize money grew with the sport. You don't really see that growth with grappling.
@CombatArcade the interesting thing about the Crossfit Games is that it's sort of a similar situation to ADCC. Each crossfit gym is independently owned and operated and the Games are run by Crossfit Inc. Crossfit Inc. depends on sponsors and an annual license fee from crossfit gyms. Despite this, they've still increased their payouts annually.
I know why he did the two divisions for one million each, but I think he should have done four divisions for men and two for women, with 400k for every winner of each division. 400k is still life-changing for these kind of athletes, and so many more athletes would jump over for sure! 10k for participating and 400k to win would have been awesome
I half agree... with how many lives it could have changed, 2 seems like a wasted opportunity. That said.. win or die is gonna make everv match more intense..
I like the purity of it. It’s like 2 absolute divisions … one for the big guys, one for the smaller guys. Mica should enter the under 80kg, he’d still have a good chance of winning …

Of course, I understand the fighters wanting to be paid but like you said ADCC was not designed to make money. It was designed to bring the best grapplers in the world together and see who the best is like the olympics. Also, the fact that it's on flow will always hurt It's finances because it's locked behind a paywall and the greater audience will not even be aware of it. They should have stayed with UFC because then they could have at least promoted it on UFC and ESPN which would have come with more sponsors. Plus the fighters going into CJI only one will win a million dollars. The others will just walk away with 10k and risk never getting invited to ADCC again if CJI is a one off
Fair points, but ADCC has made it clear to guys who have left for CJI that they're welcome back, they just have to go through trials. Also BOTH bracket winners will earn $1m, and the superfights will be for much more money than those fighters (Ffion, Gabi etc.) would have gotten at ADCC too..
