Hi Dan and Laura can you give some info on how long you can be there without a visa and how easy to get a Visa thanks
Hey, you need airflow between the mattress and the wood to prevent mold in the mattress.
I second this. I drilled holes in the platform I built so the mattress could breathe.
Totally agree, from experience 😊
That's great advise!
Great tip and so very true. And indeed a few holes could do the trick, easy and cheap.
Maybe something you can buy that’ll do trick like Airmat Anti-bacterial mattress underlay.
Laura, you said the magic words, "...as long as we are happy with it.". That is the secret to being happy in everything, especially your homestead! You do what you want, how you want and when you want to do it. Yes, some things take priority but they are YOUR priorities to set. When you make a mistake, you learn from it, when something doesn't work out right you try to fix it. It is yours to do with as you please. You guys are doing great and moving at YOUR schedule with your tasks, GOOD ON YA!
💯👍
Totally agree 👍👊
Hi Laura and Dan you need to put holes in the wood so your bedding can breathe otherwise your mattress will get mold and you will get sick take care both of you
You should drill a number of medium-sized holes in the wooden boards so that the moisture can be removed from the mattress. Otherwise, mold can start to grow between the mattress and the wooden boards. Unless you have something like a slatted frame, then it's OK.
Guys,
I love your content and can’t wait until the next episode, however, if you would take a bit of advice, if you are planning on putting your mattress directly on the plywood, I very strongly recommend you get a medium-ish size holesaw and drill a bunch of holes into the ply for air circulation. Otherwise you risk mould forming under your mattress. I don’t know what your plans are and how long you are planning on living there but if it is anything more than a year I strongly recommend thinking about the ventilation under the mattress.
Take care guys and keep up the good work.
Thanks for sharing good idea xx
Good morning 🌅, Looking 👀 very good, 👍🏻, obviously I don’t know how much room you’ve got, but you could get a lot of wooden storage boxes and stack them on top of each other to create a staircase, that way it is serving two purposes your staircase and obviously storage area, They will obviously need to be screwed and fixed together, or if they needed to be made stronger, you could make some treads up to fit on top of each box, it’s just a thought, You could even accommodate part of your kitchen into it, Stay safe keep up the great work, ❤ from France,
Brilliant idea!
Good morning 🌅, It has already been mentioned that your mattress needs airflow, as putting your mattress straight on to, flat surfaces will cause mould, it might of been better to purchase a metal framed bed with wooden slats in it, and then set that into your framework, I don’t think just drilling holes in the flatboard you’ve got at the moment will help very much, Well, the other thing you could do was put slats going across your framework that you’ve built to construct your mezzanine flooring, just have a flat panel part of area where you are going to kneel or Standish,
And then on the underside to keep the airflow going, you could get some latticework paint it and set it up underneath with an air gap would be of 4 to 5 inches , It’s probably going to be difficult, but it might be a good idea as well to turn your mattress every other week, So it can get fresh air to it,
Good luck with your projects , stay safe, France
Thank you for everybody that has given me a tick thumbs up, 👍🏻 But didn’t get anything from them, must be extremely busy or have gone back to the, uk It was only as suggestion I wasn’t telling you what to do, I am an old dude just interesting. Our people are doing things and if I can help, I will do., but suggesting something, I just wish that I was at back at work, putting in my skills and talent to good use as instead of sitting here vegetating watching things like this,
Hi team, just a thought - might there some value in leaving a bit (mabye an inch) of "breathing space between each of the boards making up the bed platform of the loft??? - allow your mattress to "breathe"????
Thanks for sharing x
You need to either put holes through the bottom to allow enough air through so as your mattress doesn't go mouldy, or you need that stuff nylon type of thing that you'd put on a machine to polich hospital floors or wooden floors. A lot like a mesh an inch+ thick like the green part of a washing up sponge, that stuff allows air circulation that prevents mould. They use them on boats alot.
Thanks for sharing Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
Progressing well on the home build ❤ why not start planting some basic vegetables that need less attention and also some flowers so that they will grow on their own simultaneously while you do the build
You do what's best for you, never doubt yourself. Can't wait to see it finished ❤
Hi guys I have been watching your videos from the very first.
Love all your content I'm really pleased you're making things work out there in Portugal.
I have spent many years travelling back and forth down into Portugal and I'm so envious of you I think you are both brilliant and you are doing a fabulous job on your home keep up the great work best wishes to you both from Geoff and Samuel ❤
Laura you look a well pro building geezer with the pencil behind your ear! Love the videos and keep up the good work.
U should build a low rails around it and leave a place to get up and down! 😊
Man I fell out of bed a few weeks back lets hope your not weird like me 🤣🤣 also its looking awesome
Well done guys, you're doing a great job getting your tiny home ready to live in. Take care and stay safe. X
Hi, I enjoy watching your progress, have you considered getting a portable work bench? So much easier than working on your knees.
Yea we had one but there a story behind that one day we will talk about it ha Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
Hello Laura, Dan. Well done you too. The bedroom mezzanine looks great. Apologies for not beeing round much the past couple of months. I ve been training my new seller for the store and done several photoshoots for clients. Natural woods s beautiful. Keep up the good work. I ll share some of my pics on Instagram. 💚😎👍
It made perfect sense to build the mezzanine. If you find the support vertical edges too harsh there are many styles of rubber edging/bumpers to protect you. 👍👍👍
Lovely to see your smiles at getting near to sleeping on your mezzanine, keep up the good work, and keep healthy and happy
Looks like what we call "hobby plank", used for shelves, worktops etc.."Fishing net" so you don't fall down...Enjoy yourselves
Something to think about. Heat rises, a opening skylight might help with that issue.
Such a brilliant way in which to increase your living area within the cottage Dan and Laura !!!
Mezzanines are getting quite popular when one has limited space, so an excellent decision!!!!
Good advice about preventing mould .. an inexpensive suggestion that’s doing the rounds is place a piece of plywood, foam or cardboard between the mattress and the wooden floor…and also lift your mattress off the floor from time to time to aerate it. Not long now and you’ll be having your guard rails up … and just like that you’ll have your new sleeping area… sooo happy for you both !!! Durban SA🇿🇦
Excellent carpentry 😁🛏🏠...rain falling on that roof will be so relaxing to listen to when you are in bed
You need to give yourselves more credit, all your builds are very good!
Well done you 2. Another bit done. It wont be long till your living in there full time. Keep safe.
SAFETY ISSUE !! 13:10 Do NOT get behind the saw. First, that is a left hand saw you are using with your right hand. Most hand circulars if you are stand above and behind the saw, the blade is on the right and you should use your right hand on the saw. Nothing should be behind or above the saw. When a hand circular jams,, granted the battery saws are not as powerful as the corded saws, but the blade tooth speed is 120 or 140 kph. If there is the perfect pinch or jam,, the blade and saw will back up and out, and rotate blade up,, MUCH faster than you can react. The inside of your thigh is over the blade,, and an important artery is right below the skin an inch or so. From that position,, dead and bled out in less than one minute.
Been in construction for more than 50 years. I have seen it,, it has happened. With a corded saw you work with the saw clear behind and even the cord free behind the saw. If the cord is pinned by you or routed toward the front of the saw,, and the saw gets loose. The saw will walk right around you. Hand circular saws are dangerous. Don't be behind the saw.
If ever/when Dan misbehaves, you could put another platform below and make it a bunk bed...😄
Or build a bench along a wall and maybe put an awning over it. 😁
Hi Laura and Dan, the mezzanine looks amazing it will be lovely and cosy you are really making a lovely little home for yourselves ❤️❤️
Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
You two are the only ones that have to like what you do and be happy living with it. Look what you have accomplished! Enjoy
Well done Laura and Dan, it looks amazing!! Can't wait for you to finish it now and get your bedding on lol xx
Some lovely bits of wood
Great that you've got the hard work done 😊
Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
Wow. Awesome !Look how far you gave come in such a short while !
Love the vision and things made of wood but please please treat the wood!!Termites and woodworm are very prevalent here. My Son renovated an old town house here on the Algarve and didn’t know what was going on till the bed stared sinking into the floor Termites!! Keep up the dream❤
Oops!🤭 This is taking you ages but it's looking great. There's one thing you're forgetting about height. Don't forget the height of the mattress. Keep going and don't give up.💪💪
Hope side rails for your Mezzanine Bed is next !! Also fill those Cracks in your walls or there will be un-wanted Guests !! Swimming Pool is Next ??
Yes defo and Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
After a long day lounging by the pool on our vacation, is there a better way to end it than watching you guys make more progress on your home?
It’s really coming on now. We can’t wait to see the mezzanine all finished.
Take care guys
Thanks guys 💚 hope you're having a lovely holiday!
Hi again L&D
Happy to see you as always.
Your great idea is turning out soo nice. You've learned so much...
Getting excited to see what your next project will be. The railing will surely be a comforting safety feature
so nothing bad happens.
Will catcha next time. Get some well deserved restfilled sleep. Enjoy!
Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
Its getting there now I'm happy for yous guys
You two are nothing short of spectacular. To think back to the start of this journey you have come a long way. I love the banter and the little quirks you have. Thanks for showing it because a lot of TH-camrs try to come across too professional. Keep having fun. It’s a pleasure to watch ❤
Ps , not sure if you’ve done this yet, but may I suggest that Laura does another amazing mosaic in the step area leading into the barn 🤔🧐😏😎
Will you need to put holes or gaps in to prevent condensation between the mattress and the wood?❤ or maybe your planning to raise the mattress
Off the woods bit
Thanks for sharing idea Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
I hope you plan to have some kind of railing around that your really moving along
Hi guys, I’m a new subscriber to your channel, I’ve nearly caught up to date , 3 days binge watching 😂, one thing that I noticed is that you are getting stressed about the armchair critics who offer probably well meaning advice, my point being, relating to things like pointing mix etc , these things you would probably be more likely to get good information from locals who have been living / building/ working in the climate, and are way more knowledgeable about it than the desktop builders 😳🤷♂️😬 I get there is a language barrier, but surely an ex pat somewhere in Portugal can help you out with the information you need . Anyway, love your channel and your amazing attitude to life, I just wish I did something similar when I was healthy and much younger!!!! Love to you both from Kevin in Herefordshire England 🇬🇧
Busy Bees 🐝 Looks Great! 👀
❤
Just brilliant guys, so happy for you getting your bedroom just about finished, you're so right Laura, there's nothing like that special top bunk feel 😀
The way you say mattress is amazing. 😆
😆thanks lol
Dear Laura and Dan,
You'll be soon sleeping in the mezzanine in your house. Can't wait to see you " climb" up the stairs.❤❤❤
Thanks! we can't wait! 💚
Hope it isn't too close to the ceiling. You still have to put a mattress and bedding on it. Figure that is at least 6 inches - maybe 8 or more if you use a nice mattress.
Hi guys.
Just a quick question for you.
Couldn't you have had the bed a foot lower to give you more room on top?
🤔😊👍
We could have yes ❤
Every single week your home becomes 1 step closer to you being able to live in it 😊 That beds gonna feel so nice having that first sleep in too 😊
Hallo happy-go-lucky lovebirds. Always a smile and a joke. Like this from you two. Keep going
You are so kind Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
pilot hole with 3mm bit before you put your screws in will save on your main drills batterys
Progress...progress progress 💯🔥
❤
Looks great!
🎉🎉🎉congrats you did it❤❤ guys. It looks super cool en comphy
Another great job finished Laura and Dan! Well made, it fits in so well. Happy restful nights in your new home 💛
❤
Looking great. I think that you will be up there with your bed very soon.
Fantastic work Laura and Dan!!!! I'm so excited to see this bed in all it's glory!!!!! xoxooxoxo
❤❤
You need sides or if you roll over it’s a long drop 🙈🤣xx
Looks brilliant gives you plenty of room underneath for a comfortable place underneath the mezzanine either for a table a chairs to have a romantic dinner or a cosy sofa to curl up on after a long day on the land plenty of headroom up there for sleeping and it's handy have the little nook behind to put books ect in it I didn't think you would silly enough not to put a rail round the outside it would definitely hurt if you fell off and your right you made it that height for you and Dan it will feel like a luxury from sleeping in the van ❤
It's an upside down fourposter😀
Hello my sweet and lovely friends! I love the mezzanine and it reminds me of my childhood as well. I was overjoyed to see it nearly "sleep ready" :-) BTW, the commercial was nice and that would be a wonderful thing to get! TY for that! You are daily in my prayers. God bless you all mightily and my your storehouses be filled to overflowing. In Christ's love and mine as well. ~John
Curious why you didn't extend the floor all the way to the wall for storage cupboards. Also, make sure to have a way to ventilate under the mattress to avoid mold.
Super. 😅😅😅. Enjoy it. ❤❤
Well done guys great job indeed,I can see a couple of macrame hanging chairs below the mezzanine total chill 😎 love it love from bonnie Scotland ❤x
Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
As I said that you said you were putting sides on lol 😂😂
Looks nice, time to move in soon. Cheers!
Ahhh, there you go. I spoke too soon 😎
Hi Dan & Laura, hope you’re both well it seems strange to have the mezzanine floor done and now the side rails to make with dowels Dan please get a Forsner bit to drill the holes for the dowel these bits are far superior to the flat bits I’ve Sheen you using as the bottom of the hole when you stop drilling is a flatbed you don’t get the half an inch 12mm hole going to a point that the flat bits give you plus the Forster bit is about 12mm thick so you don’t go off at an angle. They are quite cheap and will last you for a lot of years. I look forward to seeing the mezzanine completely finished yes including stained and waxoiled sealed I’m sure it will be very comfortable for your bedroom once finished so you. Know what to do Dan get your ring off and get on, your partner wishes to Kip up there ASAP. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Your home is going to be great once you get it all put together.
Love Martin xx😊😊😊😊
Thanks for sharing Martin and Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
Loving the sounds of the crickets, nature, your work in thus vlog. These sounds trump background music every time.
Glad you like them! Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
This was a major job and you have achieved what you were attempting. Plus all the way.
Looking forward to seeing your mattress going up😂😂
Love to you both❤️❤️💕
It looks so high!
You are right, if you are happy with how a project comes out, it is good enough ;) And it looks good to me as well. Perhaps you were chickens in a past life, they like to sleep as high as they can get.
are you going to put guards (to prevent falling off the mattress) and a wooden ladder up to the mezzanine?
He said about putting wood along the sides to stop things falling lol
Clearly stated in the video they are @17:30
@@paulb1951I haven’t got that far yet
Deroom looking amazing, Can't wait to see it all completed.
Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
The first thing I thought of was you potentially falling so I’m glad some rails will be put up! It looks great!!
Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
Looks good!!
Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
Great job you guys! Its coming together and looking good. Keep up the good work and youll soon have your home.
Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
If you get those wood creaking noises, you can take the planks off and glue it and screw it back on.
Sending love!
Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
Gan on wi' it lassie. Already doin more than moast can dream of. includin me! :))
🌻🌻💚Thanks!
Hello guys it's really starting to look nice 👍
Una cama muy acogedora
Gonna be well nice up there but remember guys if your scared of spiders they love high corners and dangle on webs when your a sleep 😂😂 brilliant best wishes Phil from Shropshire ❤
The mezzanine is too close to the ceiling but I'm sure you guys realise that by now 😂
Who cares when yous have the land??
But seriously...
everyone should be able to stand up or at least sit up in bed???
Onwards and upwards
Your success online is inspiring ❤❤
Love you guys
❤
Your bedroom space looks so nice. Great job!
Thank you!! 😊
Good job you two. Have a safe and happy week.
❤
i had my doubts but it looks great, good job 👍
You've done a very nice job.But I still think it's way too high. You could lower it at least a foot to give yourself some more headroom up there
Those trees next to the roof are really bugging me.
Will you be trimming the branches so the roof is not ruined?
Looking great you two, well done!
Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
It sounded a bit creaky. I guess the joists will fix that.
It looks great. You answered my question about feeling safe. Dowels will help you find your sleeping perimeters. Looks really cool.
Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
Good job
🎉
❤
Well done both x
Thanks for the lovely comment ❤
