My mom accidentally adopted a Malinois mix, she was told it was a senior GSD in a kill shelter so she took her immediately. And I love that silly lovable dog! She is the sweetest smartest dog I have ever met. I sometimes wonder if she’s too much dog for a 73 year old widow but then I realize Ethel wouldn’t even be here if mom hadn’t grabbed her. She has a farm to watch chickens, cows and the kids across the field. Nice retirement for an old lady ❤

I got tricked into 2 Malinois Xs. I was looking for a Akita/GS. Mix puppy. A Backyard breeder told me he had only one left and I had to buy het today otherwise someone else would get her. She was So Cute like the photos of the Akita mixes I saw. This was the Smartest puppy I ever saw, leaned everything in 2 weeks. I was So Proud of me and My Non stubborn/ Cooperative Akita mix that I took her back to the Back yard Breeder to Show her.off. She did about 5 commands multiple times in rapid different order. The Breeder Stoked my Ego, then bought out an other.puppy that was abused by its new owner and returned. I was so.wanted to Give this Puppy a new life I took her on the stop. What didn't know was this.puppy was beaten lame. I thought her.leg and hip was just swollen. When I got her home She couldn't/wouldn't walk, because the owner beat.her because she got into everything. So the Puppy.learned if I don't move I won't get hit with a broom or rake. I worked for 3 months healing her damaged leg and hip. Then the puppies started to Go crazy climbing over a 4 ft. Fence then a 5 ft fence and finally a 6 ft. Fence the highest the zoning laws allowed. The 3 police came one day to catch them. They gave up and closed the busy road instead. I was 60 miles away when I got the call your. dogs are loose and. have the Zoomies, the Police and a military dog trainer can't catch them. I told them.they don't have the Zoomies they Just like to Chase each other and won't stop until they are ready. I got home called them in and came.out to talk to the Police. That's When I found out they're Malinois mixes not Akita mixes. The Army Dog handler told me you shouldn't have those Puppies because at 8 months they aren't even Close to being fully grown and they will drag you down the street. The Police realized I was Screwed over. I didn't even know What a Malinois was. No tickets just.get them trained. 6 months later after the Dogs dragging me and a 250 pd Dog walker. The Military Dog trainer, trained them. They are the Best Behaved Dogs at any Dog Park we good to. It only took him 4 weeks. I Love them, people offer me their Malinois that they can't handle or want to breed their male with my girls. Sorry there are too Many Malinois at the Shelters Now that inexperienced owners like me can't handle. The M.Dog trainer is the reason I still have them or were not Run Over by a Car by Now.

Same happened to me two years ago, when I became a widow at 73 years old. For about a year after my husband passed away, I prayed every day to God that he find me a dog. We always had dogs and the last one died about 4 years ago. One day, a beautiful 6 month old Malinois came into my life. Someone found her, no owner was found and the last person who tried to adopt her had to give her up, she was not an easy puppy. Not knowing what I was getting myself into, I took her in, thinking it was the answered prayer but, I quickly started asking God, every day if I mistook the sign. It was too much for me, I cried almost every day, lost about 8 pounds as she became one of my biggest challenges ( and I had many) but, after all we fell in love. Two years into this, I am now 75 and she doesn’t leave my side, we sleep together and her company is a blessing, I am now sure that she was the answered prayer.

My wife and I work with Red Stick German Shepherd Rescue in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We are currently fostering a 4 month old Belgian Malinois puppy. He is very well behaved for a puppy but he takes a lot more energy and attention to work with than any previous German Shepherd we have worked with. That said, he is also one of the most intelligent dogs we have fostered, and we have fostered over 20 German Shepherds in the last 10 years. I wouldn't recommend this breed for any inexperienced pet owner. He's going to be a great pet for the right individual with energy and patience. Great dog.

My malinois who died in 2015 at 18 years old was very uncanny for a malinois. She was smart, but she was more of a family dog and a couch potato compared to the nervous, sportive typical malinois. She didn't like tug and fetch games, she preferred race and paw pile.

@@gothik33 well at some point she couldn't run anymore and she was visibly sad about it, but when she had to give up on daily walkie at 17 because after 15 meters I had to carry her (and before that she was hurting her toes by rubbing her paws when walking, so we have her dog shoes), that had an impact on her happiness. But she enjoyed her food still and in general she wasn't desperate until the last week. There I admit we should have helped her to say goodbye because she was in pain.

@Kyle VanderHoff you start sitting in front of your dog, who's lying, both on the couch or on the floor. You playfully slam your hand, palm first, on the couch/floor. Normally the dog will put their paw on top of your hand. So you add your other hand on top of their paw. And either your dog puts their second paw, or they put their paw from the pile on top. You put your first hand on top again. Repeat until one of you is bored. It can get kind of competitive 😁 what's fun is you can add more players!

You are an amazing trainer!!! I love the sounds you use instead of words. Your techniques are amazing. I’ve been binge watching your videos and podcasts. While I won’t be getting a protection dog, I have new working therapy dogs and “helpers” for physically challenged people/families arriving soon. I am so excited to see your way of loving and training your dogs simultaneously. You’re amazing! If I still lived in Tigard, I would have thrown my hat in the ring for the new assistant position!! My malinois has two modes: most of the day she is always running around playing with her balls / tug toys and loves to bring them for me to play with her but when I sit or otherwise relax, she will just sit next to me for her dose of pettings and scratches. She enjoys those moments so much she starts falling asleep standing and if I dare to stop, she will stare at me with them puppy eyes😂

I think the walking/running machine is brilliant. She loves to run, cuddle with all 5 of us, knows each of our personalities, and lazer focus yep.
Pretty sure she understands everything we say.
Smartest dog I've ever had. I laugh, food driven, and loves tug of war.
First time I took her for a walk, I was on my heals leaning back, she didn't even run out of breath.
She has a whisper bark, like hey, come see.
a indoor bark, and get away from my house bark.
Every day is a joy with her.

I had a husky for 12 years and losing her was life changing. I loved her natural confidence and stubbornness, and how she worked out problems. I could see her puzzle things out when I asked her to do something - “what am I getting out of this?” “I can do it, I just don’t want to.” “I’ll follow you because I know you’ll give me a treat but I know YOU know that *I* know I can run away at any time and you would not catch up with me.” I absolutely loved her and always thought I would get another husky. But I’ve been considering a mal because they are SO smart and sticky, and I am thinking of a protection dog in general. I’ve heard they can be so hyper focused and reliable they lose their ability to determine negative outcomes (like they’d follow a ball over the edge of a cliff if you told them to.) Is this something you notice with them? Do they have a base level of self-interest?

One ❤ man . I love this one and appreciate you doing this topic . People see My boy and cross the street lol , others who know him always have the tone of surprise when he behaves impeccably, for example, if a dog comes up giving it large at major , he is silent , even though he's looking at said dog , like Really? You realise I could finish you in one bite lol. Off lead or on he's like that. He doesn't just love other dogs but my cats, one of which recently had kittens and when I handed major each one to say hi , he just went Floof and boss eyed and full of love , he's the same with kids . I'm happy and proud of what we've achieved as a team . After he failed the military grade , he got handed to a big unit of a guy who abused him for 3 years and then I met him . He was a wild , frightened, hungry, chained , beaten, confused mess. I never give up on a troubled soul . My vet said that all the military training is there , no mistaking it , so she said that his PTSD will be helped by me as I have it too and I know what to look for , and because I'm on the autistic spectrum I'm able to read animal body language really well, especially dogs , horses and birds , I used to be a falconer. Love your channel and your dogs and your puks and poopups etc 😀 😆 🤣 😂 barmpot just like myself. Happy New year. One ❤ from 🇬🇧

He has a few neurotic issues that we continue to work on (he's getting better). However, like your dog in the video, he seems to think his actions are what gets him the reward...he does not try to please. His interactions with me are great and we are both "participants." He also interacts with mama in a whole different way than with me (another sign of intelligence I think). He is also great about going away from his reward in order to get it. Each month he gets older, he learns more and more, about how to "chill." He also loves family members and our other dog (a Rotty/Chow-Chow mix). Thanks for the video!

Finally a video that doesn't demonize this fantastic breed! I've had multiple GSD in the past, about 2 years ago my family rescued a 3 year old maligator. Pure bred, good genetics, the couple we got him from just bit of more than they could chew. He had some bad habits when we got him, lunging at other dogs, nipping at my kids etc... We knew it was gonna be a challenge to integrate our boy and it was... It takes a ton of energy, time and resources but I would do it all over again in a nanosecond... He's become the best family dog ever.. They are so smart... I now have complete trust in my Mal, he's great with my kids, is awesome with other dogs, behaves extremely well both on and off leash, knows a ton of commands, is a super instinctive and intelligent protector but is also ridiculously silly and cuddly....
They undoubtedly need a lot of work to be great family dogs but I feel like mine has made me a better person, I'm healthier, my family is more active.. Wouldn't trade em for all the diamonds in the world!

That was a beautiful trubute video to an awesome breed of dog.
So many times your poohpups did something to make me smile either at their antics and action or because they reminded me of my own three Mals I've nicknamed the Orange Blowies because of the colour of their coats and like flies at a BBQ they're always right there lol sorry, it's an Aussie thing I guess 🤣
They are such full on dogs... the intensity, the drive, energy for days. Even the way they try to crawl inside my skin for a cuddle and velcro to me wherever I go is something I've not experienced with any other breed. And they learn things so fast. One or two repetitions and they've got it. Then all you have to do is incorporate and it's a done deal.
Watching Alex go through to tunnel reminded me of the time the ball rolled into a drainpipe about the same size. If the poodels (you have poohpups, I have poodels ok lol) lose the ball when playing I just leave them to it. Eventually one will either find it or figure out where it is and get it. So, the ball rolled into the drain. The pipe's only on a slight incline and about 20ft long. Both ends are open and accessible. I just left them to it. My male eventually just went in and crawled to retrieve the ball and reversed himself out. Now the drain, like up in the trees and rafters, under the thornbush or at the bottom of the creek, it's just another place they have to navigate to get their reward. Exercise the brain and the muscles.
They are the goodist poodels 🐕🐕🐕 but they aren't dogs for the faint-hearted or unimaginative that's for sure 🖖

One of my first dogs was a wolf/shepherd mix so i grew up thinking they were the standard for shepherds. I recently got a malinois/shephard mix and she is so much work and so smart she reminds me of my old dog. If she doesnt have a toy or an eye on her shes off making trouble but shes so sweet and cuddly

Malinois Belgiums shepherds are very smarts, sensibles, reagents and very athletics dogs who are focused on their educators

The leash test is very interesting to do and only my Belgian shepherd has managed it. All the other dog breeds I’ve worked with could never figure it out

"unravel themselves in a leash to get back to me". That's a level my otherwise wonderful Cocker Spaniels have yet to solve... 😂

that poor ball LOOOL. And this is why they are my dream dog, when bred properly they are wonderful intense companions for people who love the challenge and flexibility they provide in anything you set them to.
