  • Forget The Navy Seals, The Marine Corps, we have a dog here who could claim the title for being the toughest, most athletic and most fearless and driven dog in the world - Meet The Belgium Malinois - The Ultimate Super Soldier. Anneka meets James of Wolfstan Kennels and witnesses a mock raid on a terrorist cell which includes abseiling with dogs, multiple take downs and taking a hostage from a kidnapper.

Had my malinois 3 years now, was in the military so new the breed. Please don't buy one of these dogs if your not prepared to exercise them for at least 2 hours a day. These dogs are one of the only breeds left that heve not been messed around with, purely because they were only bred for working. But I have noticed over the years they are getting more popular, And are now being left at dog rescue centre's, because amateur breeders are breeding them, And selling them to people for pets. They are not indoor pets , They need something to do. Think twice and do your research, if your prepared to put the work in , you will have the cleverest most loyal friend you can imagine, these dogs will protect you with there lives, they are fantastic.

With my youngest (two and a half years old) there is no way that two hours would satisfy him. He'd go nutty. He likes to have activity from morning until evening. I agree whole heartedly with Dean Stephens, however, they are not good pets for anyone not familiar with the breed. I've had all sorts of working breeds in 50 years and the Malinois' needs and personality are very different than all of them.

Especially since we treat them so badly. 2m+ put down in the US alone annually. I have a Cane Corso, which is a very difficult breed to own if you want a well-trained, well-mannered, and well-socialized dog. I constantly see them being put into shelters because people can’t handle them. A Belgian Malinois is easily twice as difficult, and usually a lot more difficult than that. It’s a privilege for us. I appreciated your attitude.

I had an amazing MAL 7 years ago. He was unbelievable and I loved him dearly.
I was constantly training and working with him as my job and still, I was not even able to tire him completly.
I am very fit, super active, sportive and extremely disciplined person.
People always asked me how it was to own a Malinois and till this day, my answer is ALWAYS the same one: -''It was a full time job '', people would laugh at my answer, and I would look at them directly saying:
-'' Yeah ... not a joke my friend. MY dog is my full time job, FOR REAL''.
I would then, explain the work and stimulation that he needs EVERYDAY.
5 years after my Mal passed away, I was on the search to adopt an other Malinois.
I went to visit many amazing breeders in different states for over a year and a half.
Slowly, I came to realized that my lifestyle has changed and my work was different. I was not sure I would be able to keep up with this breed for an other 15 years.
I am still hyper active, Uber disciplined but i dont have the time anymore to have a working dog sharing my life, plus i know too much. I know what they need and how you have to stimulate them.
I am now, the happy owner of a perfect dog to fit my present needs. He is something else let me tell you, and I dont even have to mentioned how perfectly mannered he is in every situation. He is umbelivable. I get comments on his behaviours on the daily.
Lets just say that, even though he is from a otherkind of breed, he has been trained the MALNOIS way, and he is tired for sure at the end of the day.
He is probably the dog in the best shape of our neighbourhood lol
There is not ONE week since i adopted him that is passing without me thinking:
-''Man it would of been a big mistake for me to adopt a Malinois now''.
    PLEASE, trust me people:
    you dont want a Malinois.
And you certainly dont want a Malinois as a pet.
They are more than what you think you can handle.
This is coming from someone who actually shared her life with one.

I have a GSD/Malinois mix and yes, she's quite a challenge and I love her. I'm at home all day and when I leave home I take her with me everywhere. We're a team. If she doesn't get enough stimulation she barks at the neighbor, the neighbors kid, the neighbor's mailbox, a plastic bag... or just barks. If you've seen somebody on severe withdrawal. That's her. Not a happy dog. And she becomes a pain in the ***. Don't get a dog like this if you just want a family pet. It can work as a family pet but if it does that's just a bonus.

I've known two Malinois. One was the most vicious (large) (but gorgeous) dog I've ever met. The other such a sweetheart. Not the fault of the dogs of course. The first one was from my aunt who just lost her husband (my favorite uncle who bought it a few months before) at the age of 43. It took her a few years to be pulled out of her depression and the dog ran wild. The latter lived at times with us at the university house. She was called Goof. We played a lot of football with her. A gentle soul (but every morning the garbage was strewn though the corridor :) Her only vice.

She'll be a year old in a couple of weeks and people are quite impressed with how well behaved she is. She's going to be a service dog. She's my first Malinois. I just study as much as I can about her breed. I'm lucky that I only work 2 days a week and she goes to work with me. I'm really enjoying and loving my Malinois!

Agreed about the ridiculous deformed breeds because of the dog show world. I think we're finally making an impact however as this lady highlighted the issue with the deliberately deformed German Sheperds caused by idiotic dog show breeders. What they've done to the flat faced or short legged dogs is criminal based on their warped view of extremity in unique features. There's no need to keep making dogs that can't run with stubby legs or flat faced dogs that can't breathe or German Sheperds who's rear legs collapse under them with hip problems and as far as the English Bulldog Mother Nature has already recognized the devastation caused to that breed and made it impossible for them to reproduce without artificial means. We need to bring an end to this nonsense called breed standards by dog show freaks. Time to favor and promote properly functioning healthy breeds and of course mixed breeds and mutts as healthy alternatives to pure breeds in general based on a wider gene pool as well as the availability of healthy mixed breeds in shelters. I think there is room for pure breeds as well as mixed ones if we can just weed out the irresponsible breeders and their customers.

Sleeps for the rest of the day. He gets another 20 min walk in the evening, sleeps , has dinner, sleeps till the morning , only going out once or twice for a wee. They are perfect for any one wanting a low mantinance dog. Thats the reason malis are used more in military and police nowadays than the GSD. On the other side the GSD have much more bite force is bigger stronger and have more intimidation factor what makes the GSD a better watch and protection Dog. My son has autism and beta male Labs are his favourite , we have 3 ( 1 year old puppy , a 7 year old and an old boy ) . Perfect ice breaker and companion dogs , every time I wake my son up he has at least 2 snuggling him . 👍

Most likely not her first time meeting them. They had to setup the camera I’m sure there first introduction was off camera when they first arrived.

She usually meets them before filming. Ive seen her meeting dogs actually for the first time and she greets them properly. Standing with her side to dog and petting under the chin first.

Do not get one. They need 2 hours of drill training to exhaust them to be somewhat calm. They are like on coke. Days I don't train mine he drives me insane. They are also smart and will destroy things on purpose if not given enough attention.

literally have to run the energy out of them so they can stop being crazy. It's like a smart 3 year old that ate an entire pail of halloween candy.

My boss has one of these dogs. Super friendly but the power they hold. Incredible. I thought german shepherds had the edge and rotts too but these are beasts. The dog in question had so much energy she ran into a gate, injuring herself requiring stitches. All she cared about was her ball and chewing a massive log!
