    Last time my wife’s best friend visited, I invited her to join me playing Goof Troop.
    She’s just a bit too young to have experienced the SNES era herself but she’s familiar with most titles that did later rerelease on GBA and the likes.
    This one was new to her.
    I just wanted to show her the first level and see if she liked it, yet in the end, we spend the whole afternoon playing through the whole damn game.
    We had a blast! That’s a timeless gem of a game and really easy to get into.
    And unintentionally throwing a barrel in your partner’s face will never get old! 😂👍
    Great list. I don’t know how many months of summer vacations me and my friends spend playing Mario Kart, MKII and Street Fighter II Turbo from early morning till sunset… and that’s not even including Turtles in Time, Secret of Mana (which is missing here) and the likes.

    Zombies Ate My Neighbors is still my favorite SNES game. It gets hard later on, but even as a 12 year old kid, I was figuring out strategies to conserve ammo, when to use things like the can soda (they have a few good uses) the weed-eater, all the obscure weapons, and save those bazookas and potions for the Baby in the shopping mall and the rockets and potions for the hedgemaze. You had to start from Level 1 though, couldn't use the codes, you needed to collect the potions and weapons/ammo, and always, have a strategy to always save one person so you don't game over or die.

      Tetris Attack was always a million times better than Tetris 2 was. Tetris 2 was just irredeemably bad. Tetris Attack has very little to do with Tetris, they just used that name to boost sales, it's got nothing in common with tetris other than being a puzzle game. But it's a hell of a good puzzle game, one of the best ever made. I still play the gameboy version to this day. It fits the niche of tetris better than tetris 2 did, i.e. it's the perfect game for a handheld console, a little pick up and play game that you can play for 5 minutes or 5 hours and both are great.

    Super Mario Kart really was the GOAT. The most fun we had was battle mode with the pools of water. Our rules were, if you got the feather, you were allowed to jump in and wait it out while the others collected items, but if they got a banana, you had to freeze and then it became a game of sniping them from a distance.

    • @mchevre
      @mchevre ปีที่แล้ว +3

      True! It was almost kind of a secret, as it didn't make it obvious at all. You had to go into the menu options and "assign" party members to controller two. It worked best if you had a situation where you're the primary player and you have a helper with you - like if you had a little brother or something. That's what I did anyway - it wasn't my first playthrough, and my little brother had no RPG experience, so I basically was like battle commander telling him what to do until he got the hang of it.
      Even if you play with someone who does know what they're doing, it still helps to not be on equal footing since it's inherently set up that way - like for example only player 1 will control on the overworld map, towns, item/menu screen, and story sequences. Player 2 is relegated to just controlling 2 out of 4 party members during battle.

    DK country 1, 2 and 3 are AMAZING games to play co-op. Me and my buddy recently ran through all of them on Fightcade (great netcode emulator made for fighting games but it also had these games). There are some really challenging levels, especially in 2 and 3 and the secret levels from those games, there were some levels that we literally had to play for multiple days to beat. So much fun, and the co-op aspect of trading off characters makes for an interesting and unique co-op experience, you don't play at the same time, but deaths and barrels are enough that unless you are an expert at the game you will be trading off multiple times per level.

    Great list! I’m crossing my fingers that The Great Battle IV makes it onto the honorable mentions video. Granted, it’s a Japan-only import, but there‘s an English patch and the co-op is crazy good fun. I used to play the crap out of it with friends and my sister back in ‘94. We all loved how each of the characters had unique abilities- it was kinda like Lost Vikings in that respect where you had to switch around characters to access hidden areas, etc. Easily one of the 2-player greats on the console, IMO.
    I wish it would have come out in the USA in some fashion back in the day, even if I acknowledge the amount of reworking that would have been needed to make that happen would have been prohibitive.

    Dude, you literally made my day with this video! I was born in 2006, but I've literally been playing my dad's SNES my entire life!
    The sheer nostalgia of hearing "Big Apple, 3 AM" brought me right back to beating that game with my dad when I was, like, 7!
    And SFII Turbo? That was my entire childhood and early teens! I've sunk hundreds of hours into that. both single and solo! Bro, you NAILED IT with the sound effects being music, they're the best! The SNES is the best gaming console of all time, so thank you for this video. I am TOTALLY subscribed!

    Love me some Super Mario Kart. I remember going to my first local tournament in 2019 and there were about 15 of us. Did lots of training and was #2 in qualifiers. When I got to the game store, I waited until we did some Battle Mode for fun. How did I do? I defeated all of 'em until I remembered a glitch you can do that makes your character keep going after you lose. The main tournament started and we did 100cc with one on one. I chose Yoshi and everybody did Toad, Mario or Princess. I managed to win every race without losing once thanks to my training. The grand prize was a European NES Classic and I still have it. Hope they do another sometime. Mostly to see if anyone can beat me or if they'll give me a challenge.

      @agentmith ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did that with my ex-gf. It was novel, but suffered from alpha player syndrome. There really wasn’t much room for a 2nd player to creatively contribute too much.

    • @nocuh
      @nocuh ปีที่แล้ว

      @@agentmith yeah it can be frustrating. Some parts of the game are better suited than others. If a timer is counting down then nope. Bosses depend on the boss.
      The multi-party phoenix cave and final tower are also interesting with 2 players split up. The game is more conducive to 1 person playing Maestro, but some planned strats seem to work well for general play. Each player has a mostly-attacker and a mostly-support chr. Front row and back row or dual back row. Lowest hp gets healed first, default target etc basic stuff. It’s fun with 2 players who have both been through the game many times and know how to get around
