Honestly, the SNES is still one of my favorites. It has aged beautifully. It was like the perfect evolution from the original NES. It took the groundwork from the original NES and just made it even better! Unfortunately, I didn't get an SNES until later in my childhood, but a friend of mine let me play his and the SNES constantly had me in awe at all the amazing games in its library. One of my absolute favorites is the puzzle game *Tetris Attack* I still remember renting the game on a whim as a pre-teen and playing it non-stop. It is one of those games that is easy to learn, but hard to master. Although, there are still dozens more SNES games that I still revisit to this day!
As much as I love the 2D sprite based games, I feel the original Star Fox is worth mentioning. It's still my favorite in the series. The gameplay is excellent and I honestly like the blocky polygon graphics. They give the game a unique look that adds to the charm in my opinion. And the music and sound effects are outstanding. It's short length makes it an easy choice to replay every now and then, and the 3 different paths add a lot of challenge and replay value as well. I still have yet to beat the hardest one after all these years.
You forgot TMNT 4 Turtles in Time.. It's one of the best co-op games on the system that kids can get into real quick. One thing is everybody loves ninja turtles. Two is it's easy to pick up and play. And three it's just down right a fun play through.
You can't forgot Super Mario Kart.. The one where it all started. When that game first came out I was hooked on it for weeks maybe even months. Trying to beat every track every cup with each character. Trying to get the best score and time on tracks. The battle modes were fun. My older brother hated playing me in battles. And the tremendously satisfying feeling of knocking your opponents out the way with a red turtle shell or even a green one if you get the timing right.
My personal go-to is E.V.O., great music, original concept that still hasn't really been replicated and tons of replayability with all the evolution paths
I love that game. It was so fun first making funny looking animals… followed hastily by trying to fix the animal into something more well-rounded. That’s a game I come back to every couple of years. Hey… I’m due…
Super Nintendo truly is one of the best gaming consoles in history It's one of those gaming consoles that shows how much technology evolves giving us some impressive visuals and many wonderful games that are timeless classics. I love the Super Nintendo. Cool video. ^_^
Yeah I like breath of the wild but I prefer older Zelda’s I like temples and solving them. More then walking around a huge world with only a couple of dungeons
Man, I'm really not qualified to talk about this. I really like a lot of SNES games that most people would consider unplayably dated. I remain a big fan of F-Zero, Stunt Race FX and even Starwing (which runs a lot worse than the 60Hz Star Fox). The 2D platformers are typically the most universally welcoming. The 16-bit era was probably the best for cartoon licences, and there's a lot of great surprises if you go digging through them. Aladdin is one of my favourites on the SNES, and Inspector Gadget's surprisingly really fun too.
Aladdin was so exciting when I played it in the 90s!! I still would like to try the Genesis version as I hear it’s quite different from the SNES one. Thanks for recommending Inspector Gadget. I will have to try that one.
Genesis Aladdin's an entirely different game from a different developer. It's from Virgin Interactive, so if you like Cool Spot or Earthworm Jim you might enjoy it.
I'd like to highlight one game and that's The Legend of the Mystical Ninja. Beautiful sprites. Has that fun Japanese charm. Memorable music. Great platforming. Awesome boss fights. Exploring the world and levels is a delight. It's fun in single player mode, but it's just downright a blast and hilarious with two players.
First, kudos that you give drinking water such a positive image in many of your vids, I really love that👍. BTT: The Super NES, was the first console my two brothers and me put our pocket money on to afford it together. And as you already stated in this video, these games have aged superb IMHO. Finding a Top 5, not an easy one, since you already picked my favorite ones 😂. 1)Mario Kart: This is definitely a candidate for me. Even my mother loved to play it and it was a game that defined a whole new genre. Many tried to copy this formula some failed and some came out greater (like Crash Team Racing or Sonic All Star Racing). 2) Street Fighter 2, a great fighting game which brought Arcade feeling home. 3) Asterix and Obelix a cool Jump And Run with some "beat em up" influence and this is Coop playable. 4) Turtles In Times Yes, again a beat em up but great to play together. 5) The Super Star Wars games Technically these are three games, but these run and gun games are still fun to play nowadays. And last but not least, a little bit off topic: it's great to see your channel is growing and how many people you are reaching. You are good guy and your vids give so much joy in a world where things don't look that lovely.
SNES was my childhood system, and I still love it today. I've heard European's say the North American SNES is ugly, but in my opinion, I never really saw it that way. But I can see why European's say that. They got the same shell design as the Super Famicom.
Great video retro bird! So many great snes games! I'd go with super mario RPG, DKC 2 and earthbound. For something a little less known I'd suggest checking out smartball. Great snes hidden gem
Super Metroid, Link to the Past, Demons Crest, Super Ghouls n Ghosts, Super Mario World, Mega Man X, Final Fantasy 2&3, Street Fighter 2, and Final Fight are my top 10 in no particular order and can still play them all today even though I’ve been playing PS5 for almost a year. They really take me back to my high school days (90-94’) and hold up exceptionally well !!!SEGA!!!
Demon's Crest is amazing. Such good graphics, atmosphere, great powerups, and the challenge is just right. The only nitpick I have is that I wished it was a little longer, but it still has a lot of depth and replay value. One of the best of all time.
I really gotta play Demon's Crest. My top 10 would probably be Chrono Trigger, Zelda A Link to the Past, F-Zero, Final Fantasy IV, Super Mario RPG, Super Mario World, Shadowrun, Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Earthbound, and Actraiser. Ugh hate leaving Earthworm Jim 2 and Donkey Kong Country off the list.
@@homerthompson416 Yes, those last two games are awesome, so I can see your disappointment. Btw is it just me or are the Earthworm Jim games ridiculously hard? Seriously, I have never beat them but all the Donkey Kong Country games, including the new ones, I have beat.
@@homerthompson416 Actraiser is one of my top 10 also. The sim mode is relaxing and unique, and the 2d action is great. For some reason I always liked how the character holds the sword straight up, even while jumping. The graphics and animation are very satisfying.
@@daryl4841 Music is unreal in Actraiser too. Plus it wasn't that popular at the time so if everything I hadn't played yet was checked out of Blockbuster on a Friday night I'd just rent either it, Earthbound, or Uniracers. At least one of those three, and usually all three, would be in stock no matter when I showed up at Blockbuster.
Absolutely DYING at "Sometimes in the comfort of my own home, I call it Castlevania 4 to myself." Just found your channel a few days ago and I have to hand it to you, your videos are awesome. Love the humor incorporated into each one. I think we all need more laughs these days.
I think it's my second favorite console of all time. There are so many truly iconic games on the system. I think my favorite is chrono trigger even if that is a cliche answer.
My 5 always enjoyable are 1. Link to the Past 2. Super Mario All Stars +Super Mario World 3. Super Castlevania 4 4. Turtles in Time 5. Contra 3 the Alien Wars
I haven't played SNES for so long. I mean for so many years. But there's one game (for SNES) that I always remember that was beyond amazing: "Zelda 3". Such a masterpiece! I hope I can play that game soon again!
Great vid, I'm a Sega guy through and through...but the SNES is one of the best consoles off all time with the library to go along with that. Picking 5 games for it that will always be be fun is only hard b/c there's so much awesome stuff in the library. I'm going to go with SMW, F-Zero, A Link To The Past, Final Fantasy III, and Super Street Fighter II. Still, there's just so many classics on the SNES.
you almost lost me at the ketchup water...but fun video and thanks for the content. SNES is still my favorite home console of all-time. I still play these games regularly
Yeah, that part was nasty enough that I almost left it out. Somebody said their kid really enjoyed it haha. I never know how people are going to react to certain things :) Thanks for watching the video and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I CONSTANTLY go back to StarFox and F-Zero. The Vibrant Colors and the Music are what Blew my mind when the SNES first popped up at my local KB TOYS, especially as a SEGA kid.
I'm rapidly falling in love with this channel. Since you've asked what games we'd like to see highlighted, one game i loved and havn't seen anyone talk about was UN Squadron
Quick Little Story for ya, when I show off the Super Nintendo I usually start with Donkey Kong Country! Big fan of all your picks, but Donkey Kong Country still wows people on the look of the game! Fun to play and full of Bananas! Maybe Donkey Kong Country was also stashed behind your Saturn Games as well with that Banana? Ha-Ha! For me you nailed it with Super Castlevania 4 as that game is the most played game on my system!
Battletoads in Battlemaniacs, did you managed to beat that game ?? At best I managed to get to the turbo tunnel, but that's about it, and the Dark Queen laughed at me while Professor T Bird insulted me for losing the game...
The Goof Troop love is appreciated. TMNT 4: Turtles in Time is the most replayable game in the franchise bar Shredder’s Revenge. SNES has several all time great RPGs but most of all Chrono Trigger, FF4, FF6, Earthbound and SMRPG. And of course Super Metroid and DKC2 all platforming perfection and Tetris Attack is such a great puzzle game.
Awww, yeah! New Retro Bird! You'd never guess it, but I, too, own and enjoy a super Nintendo with a selection of cartridge based computer programs! The last time I used it I played a pretty good one you may have heard of, if you're as hardcore into collecting as myself. Super Mario Bros 3 on Super Mario All-stars. The only reason I think you never heard of it is because you didn't mention it here. Just teasing. Pretty tough to narrow it down to just 5 games. SNES is great!
Just now starting to play Rocket Knight adventures. Thanks to this channel. It's a classic that I've never picked up. I just completed Super Mario World on GBA and finally got all the dragon coins finally after about 15 years of the game being out.
I always have a softspot for Legend of the Mystical Ninja I. I still have the C+VG magazine where they reviewed it, and I wanted to play it sooo bad. My brother bought a brand new Super Famicom and bought Super Mario World, Actraiser and Legend of the Mystical Ninja with it. I was so in love with the graphics, the unique gameplay and the wonderful music. To this day I still boot the game up to marvel at the nice graphics and music. It's surprising to me that hardly enyone talks about this super fun game anymore...
Your videos are the best! I'd love to know what you are saying to the consoles when it cuts to you silently enjoying their company with the voiceover sayin you are sick haha
Wow, I've never seen Goof Troop get so much love! It's definitely a hidden gem and the music and sound design in particular are really memorable. I think it might be the first co-op game I ever played and it holds a special place in my heart.
super mario rpg is one that i've come back to so many times. There's so much replay value with team selection and also stat allocation. Maybe trying an all flower power upgrade playthough, etc
Some of my all-time favorites, I have owned four out of five of them since childhood. Goof Troop was always my second favorite co-op game for SNES after Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Super Mario World, Mega Man X, and A Link to the Past are my favorite installations in each series.
There's a few games I'll always find fun. Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 & 3 Super Off-Road Muscle Bomber (Super Famicom) Killer Instinct Magical Quest: Starring Mickey Mouse Joe & Mac 1 & 2 Chrono Trigger ... I should stop listing or it'll be my entire collection.
Super Metroid. My favorite game of all time. It's the most immersive 2d game I've ever played, and at one point when I was younger I would play through this game pretty much once a week. I recently played it again to prepare for finally buying a Switch to play Metroid Dread, and IMO it hold up just as well today as it ever did.
One of the best retro gaming channels ever, you're so hilarious and assertive at the same time, thank you for this very enyoable content, it helps to cope with dull days and also enjoy spare time even more. New suscriber!
I love the SNES, definitely one of my all time favorite video game consoles. My favorite SNES games would have to be Super Mario RPG, and LoZ A Link to the Past.
I introduced my 8 year old son the A Link to the Past and it's one of his favorite games. He's 12 now and speedruns randomizers that can put any item in any chest or pot. Shout out to Andy Laso for getting us both started on the randomizer thing.
Goof Troop! ❤ I have some amazing memories with that game. And indeed, it's still as fun as ever! UniRacers is also one of those games that's still a lot of fun to play with friends today.
The dude bros and I still do a Street Fighter II Turbo tourney a few times a year. The next generation is getting in on it as well. Last time we had 4 old dudes and 5 kids. We had a kid's champ and an adult's champ, who fought each other for the title of Grand Champion. The old guys still hold the title. For now.
You got to love the super Nintendo. I do so much so that last year I paid $125 bucks for a SNES Jr more I think than it actually costed at its most expensive when it was brand new. One consolation it did come with a game. Seeing super Mario world really takes me back that's when I still don't own on the super but it when I think of video games is a little kid that's like the video game that comes to mind over any other ones. A dark horse title that people probably don't think of as much final fantasy 6 that game has some serious replay value
2 of my favorite games of all time are on the SNES, Mario World and Link to the Past. Those two are timeless masterpieces of design both artistic and gameplay. There's a ton of other greats, but those are two i can replay every year and be engrossed. Never played Goof Troop or Castlevania IV, so off i go to pick one up. One game i would throw up on your list is Secret of Mana.
Since no one has mentioned it yet, Nintendo actually did release a modern Mario side-scroller called New Super Mario Bros. U. It was released on the Wii U back in 2012 and was fun because it was a 5 player game. I played it with my wife and we jokingly called it the relationship tester as you can easily cause the demise of another player if everyone playing doesn't work together. It was a blast though and I think you can buy it on Switch now.
If you haven't gotten Super Mario Maker 2, the story levels alone make it IMO easily the best 2D Mario game since at least New Super Mario Bros on the DS, and I'd probably even put it above that classic and call it the best 2D Mario since Super Mario World.
New Super Mario Bros. U is indeed a fun game to play with friends, but I was referring specifically to 2D sprite-based Mario side-scrollers. As for Super Mario Maker 2, the story mode didn't seem like a true successor to the classic side-scrollers to me. It's been a while since I tried it though. Your comment has me curious to try it out again.
Games played: Super Mario World (0:00), Mega Man X (0:20), Super Castlevania IV (1:00), The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (1:10), Goof Troop (4:50), Castlevania (9:13)

Great suggestion!
Dude, you are hilarious! I can’t help feel stupid when I bust out laughing to myself every time I watch your videos! 🤣🤙
'fun, now theres something that never stops being fun' genius
PLOK is one of my all time favorite snes games. This game gives motivation through a hard day
First, kudos that you give drinking water such a positive image in many of your vids, I really love that👍.
BTT: The Super NES, was the first console my two brothers and me put our pocket money on to afford it together. And as you already stated in this video, these games have aged superb IMHO.
Finding a Top 5, not an easy one, since you already picked my favorite ones 😂.
1)Mario Kart:
This is definitely a candidate for me.
4) Turtles In Times
Yes, again a beat em up but great to play together.
5) The Super Star Wars games
Technically these are three games, but these run and gun games are still fun to play nowadays.
And last but not least, a little bit off topic: it's great to see your channel is growing and how many people you are reaching. You are good guy and your vids give so much joy in a world where things don't look that lovely.
Hey, thanks for the positive vibes! Means a lot :) You've been a loyal viewer for quite a while now and it is appreciated.
Me and my friend used to play Goof Troop all the time, such an amazingly fun and simple game.
SNES was my childhood system, and I still love it today. I've heard European's say the North American SNES is ugly, but in my opinion, I never really saw it that way. But I can see why European's say that. They got the same shell design as the Super Famicom.
Great list! I'd add F-Zero to the list for racing fans - such a great game which can be played in short bursts but which takes a long time to master.
Your humor always has me making sure I catch the latest video. Keep up the passion, it's the best youtube has to offer for retro gaming talk.
Thank you!
Great video retro bird! So many great snes games! I'd go with super mario RPG, DKC 2 and earthbound. For something a little less known I'd suggest checking out smartball. Great snes hidden gem
All good suggestions!
Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, contra 3, the Final Fantasys, and Gundam Wing (MY first import game) along with your suggestions. All timeless.
Turtles in Time is the game I always go back to
Absolutely DYING at "Sometimes in the comfort of my own home, I call it Castlevania 4 to myself." Just found your channel a few days ago and I have to hand it to you, your videos are awesome. Love the humor incorporated into each one. I think we all need more laughs these days.
Thanks and welcome to the channel!
I think it's my second favorite console of all time. There are so many truly iconic games on the system. I think my favorite is chrono trigger even if that is a cliche answer.
My 5 always enjoyable are
1. Link to the Past
2. Super Mario All Stars +Super Mario World
3. Super Castlevania 4
4. Turtles in Time
I do own that game and it will inevitably be showcased at some point!
@RetroBirdGaming ill eat a nanner the day you do
Quick Little Story for ya, when I show off the Super Nintendo I usually start with Donkey Kong Country!
I always go back to Sunset Riders, Battletoads in Battlemaniacs, Top Gear, Street Fighter II Turbo and Megaman X2
Just look up youtube guides for secrets or hidden things
We gonna ignore that this man just drank ketchup water 😂
I didn't complete earthbound, and super metroid until I revisited them in my mid thirties. They still hold up very well.
Matthew should cosplay as Daemon Targaryen. He has resemblance to him and Al Bundy.
Your videos are the best!
I'd love to know what you are saying to the consoles when it cuts to you silently enjoying their company with the voiceover sayin you are sick haha
Oh, that's just me saying their names again. "PlayStation 1" and "Castlevania IV". Glad you're liking the videos :)
Wow, I've never seen Goof Troop get so much love! It's definitely a hidden gem and the music and sound design in particular are really memorable. I think it might be the first co-op game I ever played and it holds a special place in my heart.
Glad you like it!
Love your videos man... always so amusing and informative!
Thank you!
NHL 95 is amongst my favorites, always fun to fire up in practice mode and play one-on-one with various teams.
2:43 that's some dedication my man!!
Too many games to name great times during the Console War thanks as always Retro Bird
Ahhh, the 90s, where you had two of the most popular entertainment wars: the Console Wars and the Monday Night Wars.
super mario rpg is one that i've come back to so many times. There's so much replay value with team selection and also stat allocation. Maybe trying an all flower power upgrade playthough, etc
My most nostalgic snes games I try to play at least once a year are Joe & Mac, Aladdin and Virtual Bart.
Some of my all-time favorites, I have owned four out of five of them since childhood. Goof Troop was always my second favorite co-op game for SNES after Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Super Mario World, Mega Man X, and A Link to the Past are my favorite installations in each series.
Super Ghouls & Ghosts, F-Zero and Dracula X(yes, that Castlevania) will always hold a special place in my heart!
My top 5 SNES games are Super Double Dragon, Street Fighter 2, Super Ghouls n Ghosts, The Legend of Zelda a Link to the past, F-Zero 👍😎🎮
Super Mario RPG will continue to age like wine. I enjoy a glass once a year or so.
Going door to door with the Get On My Lawn hat.... 👌
There's a few games I'll always find fun.
Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 & 3
Super Off-Road
Muscle Bomber (Super Famicom)
Killer Instinct
Magical Quest: Starring Mickey Mouse
Joe & Mac 1 & 2
Chrono Trigger
Thank you and welcome to the channel!
0:41 If you were my neighbour we could totally do that!
You should make a video where you alternate by calling the first playstation the playstation, ps1, psx, and playstation o-n-e.
Chrono Trigger is always fun because of the characters, story, time travel and the multiple endings via New Game +.
God I love Goof Troop! My mom and I always rented that and played together. I still play it to this day on my emulator.
first time I see your videos, but I love the humor in this!
Glad to hear it and welcome to the channel!
Goof Troop! ❤ I have some amazing memories with that game.
And indeed, it's still as fun as ever!
UniRacers is also one of those games that's still a lot of fun to play with friends today.
Really enjoyed the content and your sense of humor shining through in this one.
DK Country was my JAM. Super Mario and Mario Kart were always in the lineup too
2 of my favorite games of all time are on the SNES, Mario World and Link to the Past. Those two are timeless masterpieces of design both artistic and gameplay. There's a ton of other greats, but those are two i can replay every year and be engrossed. Never played Goof Troop or Castlevania IV, so off i go to pick one up. One game i would throw up on your list is Secret of Mana.
How have I only just discovered this channel??? Great stuff! Keep it up x
Welcome to the channel!
@@RetroBirdGaming 🤗
@@RetroBirdGaming Ah gotcha. Yeah, Super Mario Bros. U is indeed 3D, so that wouldn't quite be the same.
We can safely play Super Nintendo games because
_Retro Bird says it's okay._
I've always thought that SNES had the most iconic games and Sega Genesis had more of the classic games. Hopefully that makes sense.
Classic *arcade* games on genesis yes
I reckon it's about 50/50. Moreover, Sega does what Nintendon't :)
@@mobaby1979 u catch my drift 🤘
lol, no, that makes zero sense to me. But hey, if that’s how you feel I dig it.
SNES had both lol.
Life is definitely a bummer!!
I’m gonna check out goof troop, sounds like a great time!
I will get a neighborhood super-soaker battle going with you! Give me a call.
