Howling Coyote

- This coyote comes from wilds of Tamaulipas, Mexico. He's not a coy dog or Ethiopian wolf as some have suggested, but 100% coyote. He let me film him as he was communicating with 6 of his fellow coyotes, who showed up shortly after this filming. I never felt threatened by them and enjoyed the encounter.

I was talking with somebody about how a bunch of coyotes howling in the middle of the night is a chilling sound and wanted to find a clip that matches what I've heard, but this little guy is adorable. Ruff ruff! :3

It is actually warning any nearby coyotes that there's some possible danger. It has clearly picked out the cameraman (or the blind, if he is in one). The coyote knows something is out of place, but isn't sure what it is. That's called a warning bark.
This is a juvenile, a pup a few months old. Adults don't sound like that, but more substantial. I've lived for many years in the Sonoran desert, and the nightly coyote calls were a lullaby.
Not a juvenile. This is a seasoned vet. This bark/howl is a warning to others (coyotes) in the area. A coyotes worst enemy is its curiosity. That's why it sang the way it did. You can see it look right at the camera and tell on you. Amazing animals.

Charlie Daniels almost happened to me last year I saw one standing in the field behind my house and my first thought was its a stray dog. Before I could go over to get a closer look it took off bounding after some wild jackrabbit and i realized what it was. Very surprising considering I like near a pretty busy road that runs along this field and in 6 years that was the first coyote I'd seen

Funny.. ive actually made that mistake.... saw what i thought was a wounded dog limping on the street.. pulled over to follow him.. when we got close enough my fiance was like... "no babe,.. thats a cyote..".. he was walking fine at this point but still i worried so i called it in.. and left. Im sure cops or animal services shiwed up to the area later..
Too many people here recognize the "cuteness" of this coyote pup without recognizing just how ferocious this wild animal actually is.

I get that they attack people and pets, but so would wolves and many other wild predators if they lived close to cities and towns. Hell, tigers have a reputation for attack and eating humans in places where they're found, and typically tigers don't live near cities and towns.
It makes me kind of sad that so many people hate these animals.
Yes we hate these animals. They keep killing our goats, and leave them half eaten alive and my family has to go out there and finish the job and put our goats out of suffering with a rifle. Wolves atleast puncture the neck, wait for them to die and then eat them. Coyotes go straight for the stomach and eat them alive. So we kill everyone we see!

I just had a whole pack pass by my property. I'll tell you one thing, it sure is creepy when everything goes silent afterwards. I promptly got my ass inside at that point.

Two weekends ago, I was out in the outskirts of Shelton WA at a race track over night. My son and i got the idea to walk the pitch black track after dark.
No sooner did we get to the higher elevations of this track than does a gaggle of those damn things start making all kinds of noise off about a mile at the most.
Let me tell you,
That sends a real chill up your spine when your flashlight can only pierce so much of the darkness.
And that trach is like 2.5 miles, so at walking speed, you're up there a while.

I had to search coyote howls because its been so long since I heard any, here in the H. Needless to say, I'm stunned to have heard a pack a few feet away, either get into a brawl with the local dogs or amongst themselves. As I'm writing this I can still hear their pup like barks/howls as they make their way in the back fields...So So crazy! Only in Texas... It's been a good 14 years since I've heard them out here.
What kind of Vocalization is this? Did this yote see you and then start in or did you see it and then hide to film this when you start mouth squeaking he gets nervous . looks like a coy-dog to me but im new to yote hunting. How many yotes were in the pack and how long did it take them to get to this yote once it started in on it call?

T C Now that I looked it up, there are two recorded fatalities caused by coyotes ever. I know that in some areas coyotes are destructive to local wildlife and need their population managed, but saying that you kill them because they kill people is ignorant and wrong.

Best audio I have heard for coyote on youtube. We heard this last night camping and I wanted to make sure it wasn't a wolf. lol
the thing to note is coyotes bark more and their howls are higher pitched and more erratic than wolves! :) wolves' howls are deeper and often drawn out, sometimes sounding mournful and melancholic.
A wolf has a longer howl. Coyotes yip and bath, and have short howls, as well as being higher pitched. A wolf howling will send a shiver down your spine, and raised the hair on the back of your neck. Wolves also have a more musical note, while coyotes are usually discordant, especially when there is more than one.

I honestly think coyotes are more interesting than wolves, I love how their howl is more different than a wolves too.
we have coyotes down here in texas. I live in the woodlands, my mom used to tell my brothers to be wary of coyotes. All of them got chased into the outer part of the suburb, though, so I never get to see these beautiful animals

TheSilverAquila is correct, it's a coyote. Not many people get to see the underside of a coyote as shown in this film and that's why his color pattern looks different from what you usually see. In the film he is calling to his buddies, they showed up after I stopped filming and then the pack ran off shortly after, allowing me to continue my arrowhead hunt. Nature can be so entertaining!

aaaaaa he's so cute!! here in MA (and new england in general), our coyotes are big and scary ;u; and i had a close encounter with one, which my 17 lb mini schnauzer chased off (she refused to be a coyote snack). despite that, i still love them and respect them! just not at the risk of losing my dog LOL
One of the out here in NJ ate two small dogs!! The woman was devastated, they sadly killed the coyote though!

I live in the Oregon Coast Range and have had numerous encounters with coyotes over the years. Once I had a huge, alpha male sneak up on me while I was splitting firewood. I pissed all in a circle all around the firewood and he immediately backed off. He laid down and silently watched me sweat for well over an hour.
With have 3,000 acres of commercial timberland behind our barn and our tiny, 30-acre ranch, it can never be developed -- hence the reason I bought the place. Our closest neighbor is up and over the hill, and through a thick forest of Western Cedar, Hemlock, Maple and Douglas Fir. Our driveway is a half-mile long gravel road, our home is secluded in the woods on a summit, hidden from the closest road.
We rescue dogs from the humane society and have never lost one to a coyote. Our canine family and the wild coyote family respect each other's boundaries. Once a young female coyote was shot by some asshole -- probably a fat, uneducated republican who never served a day in the military protecting our homeland -- and died near our home.
For three weeks, each night at dusk, a whole family of coyotes would come to the edge of our horse pasture and gather, solemnly looking towards where their youngster had died. I asked a Shoshone friend of mine -- who like me has a masters from Arizona Sate University and has done two tours in Viet Nam: he as a Lt. Col., me as a First Lt. Marine on board the aircraft Carrier USS Ticonderoga (CV-14) (that's where we met and became life long friends). He studies the family and being a wildlife biologist, wrote a paper on their grieving process; it was amazing.
I eventually found the man who shot the young female coyote, and I was right. A stupid, uneducated Tea Party Republican who was in need of a Marine Boot Camp BADLY, where he might have lost those pounds and had a shitty attitude adjusted.
Coyotes are beautiful animals, but dangerous. Do NOT approach them, just respect them and allow them to live out their lives. Unfortunately, like the indigenous people from America, the Great Plains Bison, Cougar and many more, arrogant Americans have encroached and destroyed these creatures for doing NOTHING more than trying to exist. I have existed for over 20-years with them, without any incident.
I apologize for not being polite or politically correct when referring to my fellow white man, but I am embarrassed and disgusted to be one of them, but that's why I live in the woods, to get away from their less than stellar decisions.
