Seiko "Bruce Lee" 6139-6010s - reviewing a few

  • Let's take a closer look at the Seiko 6139-6010, featuring:
    - a black JDM from March 1969
    - a blue PROOF from August 69
    - a brown PROOF from Novemnber 69
    - a blue RESIST 6139-6012 from October 1971
    - along with a few Seiko Pogues....
    The "Bruce Lee" is nicknamed because the famous martial artist was photographed extensively wearing a Seiko chronograph, thought to be a gift from his mother. Internet forums debate many details, but I think the actual Bruce Lee might well have been a brown-dial 6139-6010 from 1969.

    Well for certain Bruce Lee, knew a great time piece when he saw one especially being a Seiko owner and having a Day/Date series.

    There's now a school of thought - championed by me, actually :) - that Bruce had a BROWN dial (possibly as well as a black dial) 6139-6010. There are several photos showing him wearing a watch that definitely does not have a black dial, given the hue and the contrast (in B&W pictures) between the dial and the surrounding chapter ring. Thanks, great video. I have been weighing up a Bruce Lee I found on line but not too sure about it. That's been really helpful. The one I've been viewing is the blue dial. I think it's a 1970 model. I had a choice of that or a 1969 Seiko 5 speed timer. I went for the speed timer as it was immaculate and had the original box and papers. I paid £320 for it but with associated costs will come on at about £400. I think I done well, what do you think. Shame I can't send pictures of it. Thanks again for great video. 👍

      @@VintageWatchAdvisors I'm fairly new to watch collecting. I tend to buy what I like but after a little research. One thing I noticed is that it can take watch " experts " 50 years or more to identify a good watch. I'm now 56, I can't wait 50 years for advice ! 😂

    hi, I was just wondering I bought two of the brown dials one of them the bazel is black other one is blue. do u think is a proof bazel on the brown ones

    • @VintageWatchAdvisors
      @VintageWatchAdvisors  ปีที่แล้ว

      The inner bezel on the brown dial should be black; if you have a blue one, then at some point it's been replaced (or maybe the movement/dial was put into a different case that had the blue bezel installed)

    Does anyone know what an AD on a 6139-6010T dial mean?

    • @VintageWatchAdvisors
      @VintageWatchAdvisors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not definitively. On some Seiko dials, AD is thought to mean applied (metal) markers vs painted on, and v early 1969 JDM dials were marked 6010T AD but that AD was dropped - nobody seems to know why...

      6139-6010 uses a 330W18GN (same as the Pogue -600x). If you can't find one, a Sternkreuz XMD 330.821 is a good substitute.

    Do you still have these watches? Do you think there's a marginal difference in the crown size of the 'Bruce Lee' models compared to the classic Pogue style watches? I was wondering about this the other day as my own watch is a 1970 Seiko 6139-8000 and when I look at images of my watch it does appear that the crown on mine is marginally smaller than the ones on the 'Pogue" models. Unless of course it's an optical illusion.

    • @VintageWatchAdvisors
      @VintageWatchAdvisors  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      hi - yes I do still have the watches; I've never thought to compare the crowns on the Pogue and the BL, but the Casing Parts Guide shows the 6001 as having crown 50M04N and the 6011 as using 40M16N, and the stems are different too. Your 8000 uses the same crown as the Bruce Lee but a different stem.

      Thanks for the quick response. I bought my 6139-8000 recently from an online dealer. They must have done a phenomenal job of servicing and regulating it because in the 10 days I've had it it's only lost about 1 second!

    hello friend I want to thank you for this video. I have a seiko 6139 6010 that belonged to my grandfather. I took it to repair and the chronograph does not work but I will try to take it to an official service. mine is the one with the brown background and its serial number is "9N0099" and underneath it says "JAPAN A". If you know something related to the serial number, I would appreciate it... and lastly... I don't want to sound heavy but I don't know how to change the days or the language. I hope I don't bother you and thank you again for your video. regards!

      hi - sounds like you have a Nov 1969 watch, presumably with PROOF on the dial at 9..?
      Don't bother taking it to Seiko for a service; you'd be best going to an independent Seiko specialist. Try searching for SCWF for the Seiko forum, and you should be able to find a specialist there.

      The 6011 actually came out later, in 1970. It overlapped the move from 6139A to 6139B movement, starting mid 1970 and was replaced in early 1971 with the 6012.
