Brought these in Feb 2021 and I gotto say this controller is excellent totally underrated. Mainly for streaming live on twitch and Tiktok, the small form factor allows me to have it in a flight case with a decent external Mixer next to in a relatively small footprint. Sound quality is excellent. Was considering trading up to the 1000 for the bigger jogs, but honestly I really still serves the purpose. No issues at all with it.. Abit of a fingerprint magnet but nothing but a microfiber cloth doesn't sort.
Loving it already. Pioneer gear is very easy to use. Would love a few more knobs in the future (but no biggie for now as Beat and Pad FX are great). The DDJ-800 is brill and will allow me to focus my mixing and FX skills. THE BIG DIFFERENCE IS BEATPORT LINK. By no means perfect but it's bloody THERE. DJing just got MORE FUN and INTERESTING. Discovery is key in DJing. STREAMING is like hanging out at a record shop TESTING OUT 12's for hours.
@@josephreed6323 So far so good. Tried Beatport Link and Soundcloud Go+. Both not bad, but would prefer Tidal on Rekordbox though. Access to a streaming service was the main reason I bought the DDJ800. The machine on the whole is solid and brilliant, pad FX are fun and can be quite silly, jogs feel great, pads feel brilliant, but prefer Traktor's FX units, but on the whole it's a very good move so far. It's a Hardware Unlock controller too, so (Core) Rekordbox 6 is FREE. No complaints with unit and for me the only next move I will contemplate is a move to a Prime 4 or just adding a SC5000 to my set up just for Tidal support and decks 3 and 4. I DJ for FUN, so not worried about clubs set ups, etc.
Was thinking of doing the exact same thing of getting rid of S4mk3, after being a Traktor user for about 10 years. How was the transition and how is it going so far?
Great video! I appreciate your comments on the differences between the controllers. I own a ddj 1000 and was looking for a smaller but similar power of the ddj 1000 and you have helped in the decision making. Thank you!
Nice controller, Im glad Pioneer came out with the DDJ 1000 first with the bigger jogs I love it, I would have purchased the 800 for the new jogs alone not knowing about the bigger mechanical wheels which I love, I dont know if Pioneer has changed their marketing but I like it.
Nice review.......you've explained it to a T...and will be my next controller...Price Point ,Feature Set and the ability to play all the formats have sold me. Thanks Joey
@@digitaldjtips Wanna confirm from you cause i JUST pulled the trigger....And the Pioneer website does say this ...but YOU will be the final word. Does It PLAY FLAC????
Thanks, didn't know that about the wheels' ability to adjust the start and end of loops. It's more portable than the DDJ-1000 and preps you for playing in clubs.
There is a DDJ200, 400, 800 and 1000. The logical next step is a DDJ600 and they need to leave a good price gap for that to fill. Having owned my 800 for a week now I feel like I got decent value for money for all the features it has. The DJM900 beat effects are worth a lot to me.
When you stop the track at 14:53 it has that turntable type of stop where it winds down for 1 sec. What setting do I need to change to set my DDJ 800 like that? Mine does a dead stop and I don’t like it
What do you think? Is this controller still a good choice? The DDJ FLX6-GT is missing a few features and the DDJ-FLX10 is too expensive, so there's not really much choice given that Pioneer hasn't updated this product.
If you have money I'd go for standalone( for example xdj rx). DDJ 800 is still good, you can get stems on it. I own it and It's pretty decent but i'm slowly missing 4 channels. DDJ flx6 isn't worth it, not really 'professional'.
i really think this DDJ-800 is a sleeper DJ controller, it's just as good as the 1000 but 2 channel's and it's smaller which i like, it's like a DDJ-RB got hooked up and grew a little bigger and has little WAV forms screens to whattttt! this is gonna be my Xmas gift i buy myself hell yea lol
There is a bit more to it than that, I spent a while deciding between the 800 and 1000 before I bought the 800. The 1000 jog wheels feel much better and are mechanical so the loose/tight control has much more range and there are some other minor differences (the mixer LEDS are much more responsive on the 1000) but overall I didn't feel the 1000 was worth it for my home use. In my opinion all the extra cash goes on the 2 channels, the mag fader and the full size mechanical jog wheels (that I think have bigger screens in the middle).
hi, if this controller has the cue split switch to separate the pre-loaded track in the headphones on the left side and the master on the right side? thank you in advance for your reply.
Having the Loop controls up top seems counterintuitive compared to the X and Z controller arrangement, I know the CDJ is like the 800 and 1000 but I prefer loops by the pads and faders. Plus I don't like the idea of long press to activate.

I currently have a ddj rr that is been more than great so far no issues with. my questions are- is the sound quality better than ddj rr? and..what about the difference on signal to noise ratio? i dont really get it. thanks
Excellent review. As compared to Roland DJ-707M which is 4 channel and economical than DDJ 800, which one would you prefer, regardless of the software?
Does anybody know if it is possible to swap this fader out for a innofader? The innofader seems it would work according to their site. But it doesn’t specifically say it is compatible for the 800 anywhere.
Can you change the effects on BEAT FX button? Also, I want to upgrade from my entry level controller to something better (that also has XLR output for decent sound quality). I'm a serato user and have in mind the DDJ SR-2 or the DDJ-800. (ddj 800 is 270$ more expensive, and I have to switch to Recordbox). Im more excited for the DDJ-800. Do you think it's worth the extra money and the extra work to swich to Recordbox from serato?
Why is he not using Quantize on the loops?. The 400 has the function on the 8 pads of loops that are pre timed. It's great in the mix and don't know why it's not on the 800 set as a button. seems like they missed a trick there. Only problem on my 400 is the pitch seems to float around a bit on it's own. Weird
You have to choose your software first, that's more important than the hardware. If you want to use Traktor software, go with the S4. Rekordbox, go with the '800.
Hey Joey, can you comment on the mixer bit of the controller regarding 'scratch-proofness'? I read somewhere it's made of acrylic which is scratch-prone especially around the cross fader. Are there any third-party fascias that can be installed over the top? Great review BTW! I think I'm getting either this or the DDJ-1000.
The face is not scratch-proof that's for sure! Got a few scuffs on mine already (mostly due to rough use during gigs haha) just be careful and wipe down with a soft cloth (microfibre is good). If you want everything to be pristine for when you re-sell it, try getting a skin
@@digitaldjtips Thanks that's very useful info. Sadly I couldn't find any skins where I live but I might be able to print one out and cut away the holes for the knobs etc. Of all materials, acrylic seems a very odd choice especially for a DJ mixer, which is bound to take a beating. The glossy finish does look good but so does the material phone screen protectors are made of, which would have been a better scratch-proof solution. NI controllers used to prominently feature acrylic face plates but their latest S4 mk3 doesn't which I think is an improvement. Otherwise the controller looks pretty solid. Thanks!
I have a 1000, just save up for the 1000 if you're trying to decide. It's a beast and it's not that big. I'm a big guy so I can't imagine scratching or mixing on something even smaller than the 1000. I don't really know who pioneer is targeting with this because the 200 bucks is worth it. I got the1000 coming from a ns7 because I wanted to get comfortable with club cdj setup without spending 5k. I feel totally confident that I could get behind a DJM-900 or CDJ-2000 and be just fine now. Especially since I just can connect them to rekordbox with no problem.
See, you did exactly what I had in mind. I also purchased ns7III after spinning on turntables for years. I've considered a pioneer controller but wasn't sure about switching to record box. Even when in in a studio working with 2000NSX players , I set them in Hid mode and use Serato instead of thumb drives. I guess it's safe to say that you like the unit?
DDJ 800 vs XDJ-RR? I mean, what's the point of a compact portable controller when you also need to carry around a laptop to use it? Going for the XDJ-RR seems more sensible.
If you're looking to easily transition to a club setup, get the 800 purely for the mixer/effects section so you can practise. The RR is great, but doesn't help with that (it uses the old style effects at the top of the decks)
Are the performance pads on the 800 as fast and reactive like on the 1000 or the RX2 or not?and..what about the sound?I still can't get out..which one of these 3 controllers..I should upgrade too from my DDJ-RB .. thanx..I'm even thinking for the DDJ-RR...actually this was my 1st choice...please help me out..?thanx again.
I think if they made an serato version (ddj 800 SRT) which they should do, they should make the jog wheels mechanical like the old ddj S1 instead of having touch captive jog wheels
Digital DJ Tips most definitely I own an old beat up ddj SR that has problems frm here to Nabraska ( which I can’t be bothered to list out) I think if they maid the Ddj 800 SRT I think i would up grade
@@digitaldjtips in traktor the samplers are running like a normal track on a deck. In rekordbox it seems that you can't run them on a specific deck. So I can't use effects and volume faders for samplers. It's that true? If so I need to stick with Traktor.
In Rekordbox, there are separate sampler volume controls, and you can run the sampler through the FX you just select the sampler in the FX source. For some this is actually better, as you don't have to tie up one of your four decks with your sampler.
@@digitaldjtips Are you sure? I heard they weren't mech adjusts and the difference between loose and tight is not much compared to the 1000 I also tried before buying. I could be wrong though, it has happened before.
@@digitaldjtips Ah right - good insight. I thought they were an electrical adjustment but then I tried them with the power off and you're right. That's cool. Shame there isn't more difference between the loose and tight though.

You need to join a DJ record that also provides video. It is Illegal to download any copyrighted media off of youtube. By joining a record pool you are licensed to use the media.
Nice video. The main thing I don't like about the DDJ-800 is that it isn't priced like the DDJ-RR. It's $200 more for something that's basically the next generation of a Pioneer semi-pro 2 deck Rekordbox controller. It makes no sense to me
The quality is similar as far as I can tell :) if you don't like the extra features, and especially if you don't care about big jogwheels, go for the DDJ-800.
@@digitaldjtips I see what you mean, they have their own Rekordbox system and can make money out of the subscriptions they charge for the various plans, I wonder why they produced the 1000SRT ?????
Can anyone tell me if the DDJ 800 can play 3 decks at the same time? I'm confused by the deck 1-3 and 2-4 switches when there's only two channels. Thanks!
Thank you very much! I tried using 3 of the 4 decks on the DDJ 800 after reading your reply. I figured it out, but it surely isn't as intuitive as having 4 channels. I played around with this feature for about an hour before I decided the DDJ 800 isn't quite what I need. I'm returning it for a DDJ 1000. It just felt a bit clunky trying to mix with 3 decks with 2 channels. Thank you again for your help and the excellent review!
@@digitaldjtips Good point but really what I meant is that the discount isn't enough for me to consider it a budget version to be honest. Certainly when I was choosing between the 800 and 1000 the $200 difference was not something I considered a factor.
@@vitoftw9646 and if you don't need or use these zxtra channels..?and what I don't like on the 1000 is that the effect-knob is even smaller than on the 800.. :(
Hey Ahmed, hard to advise you without knowing the full issue, best bet is to open a support ticket with Pioneer DJ or do a quick search over on their forums. Best of luck!
I love DDj 800 and I like it more than the DDj 1000. I have a question. Why do people say that ddj 1000 is more professional than ddj 800? I think that the difference is only the diameter of the jogs and the number of channels. But apart from some details, to me is the same controller, so why do people say that?
You've already mentioned two big factors there - the jogwheels are the same you'll find on the Nexus range on the DDJ-1000 and it has 4 channels instead of 2 so you can hook up external gear etc
Great job Joey. I'm not sure if switching to record box from serato will go over well with me. The build quality seems to be good. I noticed that you guys seldom talk about the Roland or native instrument products. Any reason?
i never use that on the DDJ-RB it doesn't work good. i like how it is this way with the loop button's , and a jog wheel tension adjust knob. and now the color effects are set up liek on the new Traktor DJ controller's which is kool.

Yes they're just as responsive :) Sound is fine / standard for this type of controller
@@digitaldjtips thanx bro.. ;)
Amazon has the DDJ 1000 for 999.99 usd as of right now 😳 this is why I cant see myself buying the 800
Presumably this will drop in price too at some point.
@@digitaldjtips At the moment the DDJ800 is £779, the DDJ1000 is £1,129, so for me the 800 is the winner.
Would you recommend this over the numark ns6II for bar dJing? Thanks!
I personally would, this is much more portable :)
@@digitaldjtips thank you!
Is the jog display the same size as the ddj1000? And is the info on them easy to read?
Good question! Not sure without looking at the side by side, but it is close enough we'd say. Certainly doesn't feel too small.
@@digitaldjtips OK thank you for the reply
I think if they made an serato version (ddj 800 SRT) which they should do, they should make the jog wheels mechanical like the old ddj S1 instead of having touch captive jog wheels
Would be nice if they did do a SRT :)
Digital DJ Tips most definitely I own an old beat up ddj SR that has problems frm here to Nabraska ( which I can’t be bothered to list out) I think if they maid the Ddj 800 SRT I think i would up grade
Best review
Thanks!
Hi guys, I want to upgrade from my Ddj 400, should i buy Ddj RR or Ddj 800? Help!
DDJ-800.
Can I play samples also on a deck like with traktor software?
Traktor has the remix decks so you can definitely get funky with samples :)
@@digitaldjtips Thx. But what about Rekordbox? Can I do the same with Rekordbox like with Traktor?
Not really sure what you're asking here
@@digitaldjtips in traktor the samplers are running like a normal track on a deck.
Great reveiw as usual but are the platters touch capacitive or mechanical?
They are touch capacitive but with mechanical tension adjusters - sort of like a hybrid!
@@digitaldjtips Are you sure? I heard they weren't mech adjusts and the difference between loose and tight is not much compared to the 1000 I also tried before buying. I could be wrong though, it has happened before.
The 800 has capacitive jogs, the 21000 are like CDJs.
@@digitaldjtips Ah right - good insight. I thought they were an electrical adjustment but then I tried them with the power off and you're right. That's cool. Shame there isn't more difference between the loose and tight though.
Can you use serato with this?
No you can't
Can you use Serato with this controller?
No you can't
Hi joey, the ddj 800 and ddj sx series are same size?
Quite close.
i have a question i would like to be a video dj and perform in tv stations e.t.c where do i get music videos and is it legal to download from you-tube?
You need to join a DJ record that also provides video. It is Illegal to download any copyrighted media off of youtube. By joining a record pool you are licensed to use the media.
I just bought this....yah!
I cant see the BPM displayed in the track list on rekordbox...help please
Right click the headers and you should be able to add it
Nice video. The main thing I don't like about the DDJ-800 is that it isn't priced like the DDJ-RR. It's $200 more for something that's basically the next generation of a Pioneer semi-pro 2 deck Rekordbox controller. It makes no sense to me
It'll probably get closer to the DDJ-RR price over time.
Do they have a serato version of this
No, at least not yet...
What is the sound quality between the DDJ-800 and the DDJ-1000?
DDJ 1000 is dual sound cards .. less distortion clear quality depending on the MP3 type on less professional speakers.
The quality is similar as far as I can tell :) if you don't like the extra features, and especially if you don't care about big jogwheels, go for the DDJ-800.
The DDJ-800 looks to be a great controller but needs a Serato version to give it a wider appeal.
The thing is though we doubt Pioneer care too much about giving it wider appeal now they have their own entire ecosystem
@@digitaldjtips I see what you mean, they have their own Rekordbox system and can make money out of the subscriptions they charge for the various plans, I wonder why they produced the 1000SRT ?????
Yeah would love to know more about the various decisions made as well, the SRT definitely had a lot of people calling for it though
nice
Can anyone tell me if the DDJ 800 can play 3 decks at the same time? I'm confused by the deck 1-3 and 2-4 switches when there's only two channels.
Thanks!
Yes it can, those switches switch between the two "decks" per side for controlling them.
Agreed, four channel mixers make four deck mixing much easier.
@@digitaldjtips lol
best controller is the bigger brother, ddj 1000, this is a budget form of the 1000
It's hardly budget LOL. I bought the 800 after playing with both extensively.
True, but in comparison...
Welp I wouldnt buy the 800 and just get that extra couple of100 dollars for a 4 channel
Is this fully compatible with serato????
It's not compatible whatsoever with Serato
HELLO I JUS DDJ 800 PIONEER JUST IS NOT GET THE SOUD FROM MY LAP TO TO MY MIX PLZ HELP
Hey Ahmed, hard to advise you without knowing the full issue, best bet is to open a support ticket with Pioneer DJ or do a quick search over on their forums. Best of luck!
Ddj 800 vs ddj rx which is better please respond
One is a 4 channel mixer and one is 2, what do you need?
I love DDj 800 and I like it more than the DDj 1000. I have a question. Why do people say that ddj 1000 is more professional than ddj 800? I think that the difference is only the diameter of the jogs and the number of channels. But apart from some details, to me is the same controller, so why do people say that?
You've already mentioned two big factors there - the jogwheels are the same you'll find on the Nexus range on the DDJ-1000 and it has 4 channels instead of 2 so you can hook up external gear etc
Love it
Thanks for watching!
Great job Joey. I'm not sure if switching to record box from serato will go over well with me. The build quality seems to be good. I noticed that you guys seldom talk about the Roland or native instrument products. Any reason?
No, those are good products too.
Did you switched to Recordbox in the end? Any personal thoughts from this experience?
I tried it out and I like it. However since I am keeping my CDJs for practice at home, I decided to just get a mixer.
Cool :)
I bought my ddj rr last month, worth the change???
No, probably not.
Digital DJ Tips in fact what calls me more attention is the layout!
I went from a RR to a DDJ-1000 last year. The greatest benefit is the 4 channels. The layout and screens are bonuses.
I want to upgrade from my Ddj 400, should i buy Ddj RR or Ddj 800?
I still prefer the traditional FX section being on the top- my only gripe.
Fair enough :)
i never use that on the DDJ-RB it doesn't work good. i like how it is this way with the loop button's , and a jog wheel tension adjust knob. and now the color effects are set up liek on the new Traktor DJ controller's which is kool.
