This is by far the best and most comprehensive review of the DDJ-800 I've found. Thanks for demonstrating the scratch settings, which so few videos spend a decent amount of time on. Excellent job, sir.
This is a great demo, first demo that doesn’t waste time with stuff like ‘this has 8 pads, here is the sync button,’ etc, and gets into the stuff that most DJs want to know. First video I’ve seen which demonstrates how easy it is using it in 4 deck mode, which was my biggest question about this controller (well second biggest next to how well it works as a DVS interface or standalone mixer for turntables playing vinyl but that’s pretty niche of me...) thanks for this. Great vid
I recently bought the DDJ-400 to try out RekordboxDJ. I love it. And now, just bought the 800 due to your review. And 80% of the time, I'm on Traktor & 15% on Serato. This review sold me!
This is the most informative review of this controller yet. I particularly like the talk on the crossfader cut distance & scratching demos. You've really informed my buying decision - thanks!
Pri yon Joni, I purchased the 800 last week and posted it on my FB page along with your video. Thanks for your presentation of this unit. I love mine and starting to learn what it can do.
Well, it's about 9 months since I purchased the DDJ 800. I haven't scratched the surface on what this controller can do. First, I purchased it from Amazon.com for $777. I didn't pay full price so that was major. I'm still learning the functions and addies different FX on my sets. Currently, I am using Rekordbox 6. It adds another dimension towards an already amazing controller. I'm in the process of uploading my tracks and running into minor issues. I'm working on those but will pose my questions if the issue becomes major. Once again, I would like to thank you for this video. It is a shame this controller hasn't got any love for it came out nearly the same time as the DDJ 1000 srt. It's okay for when I do live streams, people are impressed with the 800. I feel it has as much power as the DDJ1000 and it is more portable. I am looking forward to taking it out on gigs when we have a vaccine for this pandemic. Stay safe.
I already have the RZ its a beast and that is a good thing and a bad thing. I have been looking at adding the 1000 to my gear but after seeing this little guy I think it is a perfect package. im ordering now! also this is 1 of the better reviews I have seen in a very long time. thanks
Best review about the DDJ 800 so far.. because its not boring and keeps the look at the important stuff +not telling you for what the Play Button is ;) So i think i click subscribe ;).
Wow thank you sooo much for that very detailed review.. I'm blown away how you explained and shared how each part of the controller is used in ur sets... Thank you again.. I was in the fence in pulling the trigger for this unit.. I'm sold from today..
I've watched this video a few times now. I enjoyed your breakdown of this gear. I was going to purchase the DDJ 1000. My last gig overseas change my mind so I researching the DDJ 800 further but I feel this controller is the right fit for me. Thanks Pri for a solid video.
If the DDJ-800 will be compatible with Serato, TAKE MY MONEY!!!! I will definitely get one! It will be the most PORTABLE DJ CONTROLLER for Serato and RekordboxDJ.
@@yumyumrazon The Denon one can work with both libraries, and it's more portable as you don't risk your laptop or the associated problems. That is why I see it as a better choice.
Sooo...i just order this like 5 mins after watching...i recently sold my rz and was going to buy the 1000 but then i became enamored with the denon prime 4 was waiting for after xmas to get it then started combing through every review i could find on it. Best reviews came from real everyday djays that were more on my speed and technology as far as set up it was very overwhelming plus it's as big as a tank as was my rz and i was really over the huge controllers. So i will have it in about 5 days and i know i will be happy with it. The familiarity of it all will keep me comfortable and confident.
Damn, son. I’ve been considering this deck for a little while, didn’t realize it had that 4 channel trick, that’s exactly what I was looking for to keep some scratch samples ready. Sold!
Looks like it will work for me. I have been thru at least 20 or more mixers and controllers. I am not looking to go backwards. Right now I use a DJM-450 which I will probably keep. I just love the audio output quality along with it's features. Now this DDJ-800 seems to have everything that my mixer does and more. I am going to do a comparison. My first controller that I ever tried was an American DJ model. The buttons and jog wheel seemed to stiff. I then switched to Numark which didn't have that pro feel that I was looking for. Seemed more like a toy. When I switched to Pioneer I started with the DDJ-SB then SB2 then SB3. I am skipping the SR3, DDJ-400 and going for the DDJ-800. It's big money. Hopefully I will get big performance from it. Note: the SB3 is ok but the sound quality is not as good as with my DJM-450 mixer.
I actually downgraded from the 1000 to the 800. Still have it too. I'm probably moving on to standalone next, but the DDJ 800 really reminded me of my SX2, which I loved. Sure it's 2 channels, but that's all I need.
thanks for your videos, much appreciated... i guess i´ll get this one next year, love the ammount of in- and out-plugs on this, since it means good integration into a studio setup... and all in all a good controller.

If Pioneer came out with a Serato DDJ-800 I would buy one ASAP, I have nothing against the Rekordbox software but having used Serato for some time I am comfortable with it and would like to continue using it but with a controller with the features of the 800. Seeing Pioneer have built the DDJ-1000SRT for use with Serato isn't it time they looked at putting out a DDJ-800SRT version.

dFixxx3r but to answer your question quickly, the ddj-800 has an aux input with a signal boost switch. Make sure if you use it, to boost the signal. I think it’s 12db. You will need it
checked the video. got it. but opened another practical nooby question. so if another hardware is plugged into lets say channel 2, can I still use two decks - can we play back2back - like 3 trakcs each or do i have to plug and unplug each time in order to regain control of the decks/bring him up on one of the decks?
bruh. I just bought one... had to send the first one back bc the audio wasn't working. just got a 2nd one SAME FUCKING PROBLEM! Dont know if it's an audio driver software compatibility issue or something else. Troubleshooting isnt working
Tuan Nguyen yes. And also, if you’re using it to control deck in Rekordbox, you don’t even need to connect the audio cables. USB to the computer from the CDJ will allow it.
In my opinion there are way too many controller from one manufacturer on the market. They should concentrate on a few models and focus on the software which will then improve the hardware when time moves on. Djs dont benefit from 5 new controllers every year if the old devices are dropped in terms of support so early.
I’m currently using the ddj 400 with dm 40 monitors which is a great little set up for the money, the only downfall with them is that there is a slight groundloop hum, would upgrading to this controller along with a pair of pioneer monitors that has balanced inputs eliminate this. Both the ddj400 and dm 40 monitors are unbalanced.
Pri yon Joni will look into getting some of those I have one that that is on the usb cable and I use the behringer hum destroyer which takes away about 90% of the hum, my computer is an iMac and the controller sits in front of it inside my pc cupboard. It’s a compact set up as the my living space is pretty small.

question. so if another hardware is plugged into lets say channel 2, can I still use two decks - can we play back2back - like 3 trakcs each or do i have to plug and unplug each time in order to regain control of the decks/bring him up on one of the decks?
Is this compatible with traktor ?
Is this compatible with Serato?
bruh. I just bought one... had to send the first one back bc the audio wasn't working. just got a 2nd one SAME FUCKING PROBLEM! Dont know if it's an audio driver software compatibility issue or something else. Troubleshooting isnt working
Software issue
How long have you been a DJ? What school did you attend?
I’m actually not a DJ and I didn’t attend any music school.
Does the DDJ 800 work with DJAY PRO 2 on the Mac?
No one’s answering our question on djay pro
does the ddj 800 good enough for my small sound system?
The DDJ-800 has balanced outputs for both master and booth. It will work for any sound system.
Good day! Can you help me ? Which is better ddj rx or ddj -1000? may be rz but its huge 😔
Antonio Tsay whichever one fits your needs.
Pri yon Joni I need 4 channel controller on recordbox, not huge...
ddj 1000
Antonio Tsay then the answer is clearly the DDJ-1000
Pri yon Joni I hav just taken DDJ-RZ
Can you or anyone recommend a macbook pro w the minimal specs to run rekord box? It's all i'm going to be using it for, thanks!
J Alex all the current models exceed the minimum requirements.
J Alex but the new 16 inch is the favored one due to its improved thermal handling.
@@priyonjoni I should have asked "cheapest" mac, not looking to drop over 2k just for that lol
gr8, thanks
Why wouldnt they make it standalone or for Serato. I hope they don’t wait as long to release an SRT
There are several standalone models already and did you watch the video?
DJ AXCESS XDJ-RR, XDJ-RX2, XDJ-RX. They are not only stand alones, but they are all-in-one systems.
I wanted to get one, until it is not supported for Serato, I will not get it. If only PioneerDJ wanted my money, they SHOULD support it for Serato.
Looks like the Traktor Kontrol S2/4
This. Can i connect with cdj2000. On 2 input ddj800?
Tuan Nguyen yes. And also, if you’re using it to control deck in Rekordbox, you don’t even need to connect the audio cables. USB to the computer from the CDJ will allow it.
Pri yon Joni thanks. You have demo for that? Hiii
In my opinion there are way too many controller from one manufacturer on the market. They should concentrate on a few models and focus on the software which will then improve the hardware when time moves on. Djs dont benefit from 5 new controllers every year if the old devices are dropped in terms of support so early.
TheUncleBenji every controller is in its own category. When you look at the release dates of each category, they average 2-3 years.
I like this channel, subsribing right neeow!
Allan Murray your cables might be too long. I place a ferite choke on my longer rca cables to help reduce interference.
Buy a ground loop isolator you can get them on amazon really cheaply and they do a great job at elimating hum
5:00 when you ask yourself "Is this guy even a dj?"
Iron Alien no. I’m not a DJ. 🙂
Wish this work with Djay Pro and iPad
