As a bone stock as a Rookie I picked up the DDJ200 (for $119.99 at GC) and I’m extremely happy with it!!!! I’m a huge Pioneer fan now!!! My next Controller will be a Pioneer as well!!!
I just started out mixing on my DDJ 200 and pairing it with a touchscreen capable laptop and rekordbox definitely allows it go toe to toe with the 400, as the features missing from the controller deck are replaced with buttons that are only a foot away on my screen. The only downside I can see is the missing soundcard and RCA outputs, but with an extra USB sound card ($20) the problem of the mono split cable is easily solved. Obviously, if you are planning to take this to a club or another professional setting, you might run into some issues setting up your audio with their PA, but in my opinion the quality and adaptability of your skills as a DJ far outweigh the need for expensive hardware.

Well said my friend...very honest comparison.I myself use the ddj 400 because of your tips and tutorials and because it is really good the way I expected it to be..Thanks and more power to your channel.
I have bought DDJ-400 before seeing this video. It's great, though I would like to see Pioneer making something like DDJ-400, but bigger and more expensive, but with focus on actually useful stuff. So no LCDs in the jog wheels, but instead 4 channel mixer and at least 2 outputs (preferably at least one balanced) and at least one analog input. Maybe separate FX controls would be nice too... And slightly bigger pads (it could be slightly bigger overall)... Though I guess it will never happen because it would significally cut demand for all those more expensive gears like DDJ-1000 SRT.
The last week I bought the ddj 200 and I saw your videos and now I want to buy a ddj 400 and I want to back ddj 200 i'm a amateur dj, only i'm thinking bad ideas. I don't know what to do! Your are a great dj I admire you. Grettings from México.
I love this channel, all of my questions in mind being answered without asking anything. I'll start djing because you inspired me. If only i have money to afford these kinda stuffs. Since its quarantine, my family is struggling financially. But i hope i can buy one of these in the near future. From PH
@@djcarlo The way your telling its function are very clear to me, I'll look forward for your new videos! And may i ask 1 question? Since i only have the knowledge by watching your videos, what DJ controllers (cheap price) will you recommend for me?
So, I WAS going to get the DDJ-400, but someone bought me a Numark NV II. Based upon your review here, I would absolutely spend the extra 100 dollars and get the DDJ-400 instead of the DDJ-200. After this review, I am not all that convinced that the cheap Numark Mixtrack controllers would not be a better solution than the DDJ-200. I know Pioneer is your sponsor and you do your best to support their products, but seeing how much additional you can/will possibly spend after the initial purchase of the DDJ-200, I would not recommend it to a beginner who is even half way serious. Great video as always! I just got my second booking and have not even played my first! To new people just getting going.... Take time to talk to the bar or club owners. Be honest and be humble. You will get the gigs. And for the love of Pete, when playing bars and clubs, frequently remind the patrons to tip the people serving them. This will go a LONG way in building a positive relationship with you and that particular bar or club. Don't be annoying about it, but be sure and do it at least once per set, if you can.
@@djcarlo Thanks, bud. You are, in my opinion, they best guy out doing tutorials. I appreciate you not doing like one of the other big name DJs on TH-cam and spending half of your tutorial videos doing gig logs and self promotion. Thank you for doing those kinds of videos without calling them lessons or tutorials and keeping tutorial videos just what the name implies. That being said, I am very interested in any gig vlogs you might post. :)
I am a person that always wants to hangout with my friends and do mixing with them, thats is why i preferred the DDJ-200 because of its portability. I can easily set it up with my phone using the rekordbox mobile app ❤ i can bring it and mix and manage my playlist and hot cues anywhere i want just using my Phone, Bluetooth speakers and Powerbank as a backup power source 🎧 😜
I am late to the party (although I will be 50 this year) ...I have always been interested in mixing as well as writing music (I used to DJ on Techniques SL1200's many many years back - I was no expert and could not afford to own my own) ... I have just purchased the DDJ200 to play around with and also to use with my occasional music writing as to add interesting transitions in what I create - for me, the DDJ200 is another MIDI device to get creative with - and to have a bit of fun when I have the occasional party or BBQ... thankyou for your vids m8 :D
For sure buddy! And as they say, age is but a number. If you're enjoying the 200, then you're not late to the party! Have fun with it at your house parties! :D
so my first beginner controller was the DDJ-SB and I loved it, I upgraded to a DDJ-SB-3 last year and I feel like its the perfect combination of professional features and easy to grasp beginner layout and I prefer Serato DJ software over Rekordbox just personally. Now I may be switching to Rekordbox anyway because I'm currently looking at buying an XDJ-XZ although I do think Serato supports it
Do you know why my songs play at the same time? The only thing I can control is the start/ cue and one sound effect button,, when I start the 2nd track I can hear it playing at the same time
I’m sold on the 400 but it’s gonna take weeks before I can get one because all the stores being closed and it’s on back order i can’t wait to get my hands on one ☝🏽
I love the ddj200 it’s my first controller I bought it to learn and see if I would like djing and I fell in love and now I want something better ,thinking about the ddj400 tell I save up for the ddj1000 highly recommend ddj200 if you want to learn .
If you can get the extra $100 I highly recommended you get the DDJ-400 since it can now do what the DDJ-200 can which is connect to a mobile device like an iPad or iPhone and much more.
I agree but 200 is smaller and can be used with music streaming apps. Music streaming is a huge thing coz I wouldn’t want to collect music on physical hard drives. So I think I would go for 200 instead. More mobile and future proof in my opinion
I would recommend the impulse 300 because it's very simillar to the DDJ-400, it's cheaper (like 160$) and it have options for begginers like beatmatch guide or track assistant
Thanks for your helpful vids Kuya Carlo! I'll be following to learn more :) If it helps anyone else in Europe, I went ahead and ordered the DDJ 200. While I was all in on the DDJ 400 there has been no stock since maybe March/April? And the current delay is pushed into August (for my country at least). However, the 200 looks super fun and solid for absolute beginners like me to learn the basics. But both are such good prices that I would consider still saving and getting the 400 whenever it reappears!
Hi, DJ Carlo! I am Juan Carlos and I was inspired to become a DJ because of your performance. We were at the debut of my cousin and when I saw you around the corner, I was watching you like for an hour. And then my mom told me to take a picture with you. I think that was the most unforgettable experience ever I would ever have. What I am saying is, how can I DJ?
@@pilipiano6728 save up your money and get the ddj sb3. software? NOT SERATO. Its often reccomended, but its not good for starting out. Use Djay pro 2, its simple and easy to use as well as being compatible with itunes, spotify, and of course downloaded files on your computer. dj controller: Ddj sb3 (www.pioneerdj.com/en/product/controller/ddj-sb3/black/overview/) dj software: djay pro 2 (www.algoriddim.com/djay-pro-mac) the software will have a free trial, but eventually you will have to buy it for 40$. Its worth it though. Just keep watching tutorials.
Just ordered the DDJ 400 as looking to get into DJing always wanted decks as a teenager but my parents couldn’t afford them. So now abit later in life boom I got my own. Also I would never go with anything as small as the 200 as I brought a WeGo4 and it’s absolute Rubbish.
Thanks for the videos. Your mixing is on point going to try the drop mixing and scratching as soon a my 400’s arrive I live in the uk where we are waiting shipment. Pretty annoying as I just want to get on with your tips and tricks.
@@djcarlo I thought it was surprising in your review that the 200 didn't let you select music in the software when the little Herc Instinct has dedicated folder and file select buttons.
What i love about my DDJ-RR is that i can preselect 6 FX (3 per deck) its a great feature about it. The only thing i would say is not so good about it is the looping section kinda looks complicated and the in out buttons are tiny but it works.
I made the mistake you said Carlo went from DDJ200 to 400 & am wishing I had gone probably to the 800 instead now. Your video is great and I agree if you're a casual dj who likes fun the 200 is the way forward but if you want something a little bit more professional the 400 is the way to go. Depends on your perspective just wish I'd seen your video 1st buddy 😉😁 Rob.
i think the ddj-400 is when you want to learn to dj, i have bought it and in 1 month i've learned to beatmatch, dropmix and sometimes throwing some effects to switch songs (this looks so easy but it's harder then it looks :P) Can you make 1 video (if you also get request from other people) about how you orginize you're music and where you get your stuff from, cause i cannot imagine you just rip of youtube XD
I wish I had enough money for the 400 but unfortunately I am going to have to go with the 200 just for now and hopefully one day I will be able to buy a better controller ( even better than the 400 😂 )
My son is 10 years old and he likes making simple tracks, using drag and drop apps on Android, and mixing songs. I would like to give him a DJ deck to boost his interest and I also think that he could be happy, looking at how he is hyped when he fools around with those simple Android mixing apps. Nevertheless, he is quite good at the feel of the rhythm and melody. Which DJ controller would you recommend - DDJ-200, DDJ-400, or maybe something else? Of course, I don't want to pay a fortune for the device, because I don't know how it will go. But indeed, I would like a device that won't make him frustrated, but instead motivate him to continue and develop his skills.
@@djcarlo Thank you for the response. Don't you think that FLX4 or Inpulse 500 would be a bit overwhelming for him, taking into account that he doesn't have experience with DJ decks?
3 years later and this is still relevant. Great vid! With guidance and stuff going on with my life, I'm picking up DJ'ing. This week in June, 2022, I literally looked at the 200 and 400 and I've chosen the 400 for scope and scalability. What I will be doing will be more than casual. For the slightly extra money... why not?! Caveat: I don't own a DJ controller at all right now.
Exactly my man! Glad you got the 400! Love that controller. Still is one of the best beginner controllers to come out in this decade! Good luck on your DJ journey my friend!
I’m a beginner to DJing and after watching this video I’ve decided to buy the ddj400 because it’s bigger better not to simple and not just a cheaply made toy to have fun on the only thing that I am a bit iffy about is that the 200 has a tutorial and the 400 doesn’t
I love my DDJ-400. Not only because I own it :D , but it also works perfectly with djay Pro also (Spotify!), but it also works perfectly with the djay app on my iPhone.
Also, I am routing the RCA output from it through a Rolls HE (I have some noise issues with my USB sockets on the MBP), and that also converts the audio to balanced signal.
Can you do a comparison of the ddj-rb and ddj-400 pleaseee. I can't decide what should i buy. Love your vidss man you're an inspiration to all beginner djs
I love your videos btw! I just wanted to say I'm just starting to DJ, I got a Numark ns7III for a ridiculously cheap price and as a starter unit it's a little daunting but damn do I love it!
@@djcarlo In reality, I'm not very good with it yet (your drop mix tutorial was very helpful) I've really got to work on mixing and transitions and fundementals, but while I'm doing that I'm also practicing creative stuff with loops and such. Watched your vids and you help me make a decision between numark starter deck and ddj200. Thanks!!!!👌
I bought a sale DDJ RR recently, for a P25,000 pesos, or $480 US. I really liked the sequencer feature which I realize later that its not hard to do on my laptop.
And I didn't get the difference.. The 200 comes without soundcard? Meaning that the 200 can't just be connected with laptop and boxes and I will need more? Thank you

And slightly bigger pads (it could be slightly bigger overall)... Though I guess it will never happen because it would significally cut demand for all those more expensive gears like DDJ-1000 SRT.
Yet another informative video. Bought a ddj400 after your last comparison video with 4 controllers. Absolutely in love with it. All thanks to you!
Definitely ddj-400!
It’s much more complete. greetings from Argentina!!
The last week I bought the ddj 200 and I saw your videos and now I want to buy a ddj 400 and I want to back ddj 200 i'm a amateur dj, only i'm thinking bad ideas. I don't know what to do! Your are a great dj I admire you. Grettings from México.
Trust your instincts Victor! You'll know what's best for your DJing.
DDJ-400 All the way. The latest rekordbox update adds streaming on the platform for mixing.
I love this channel, all of my questions in mind being answered without asking anything. I'll start djing because you inspired me. If only i have money to afford these kinda stuffs. Since its quarantine, my family is struggling financially. But i hope i can buy one of these in the near future. From PH
Awwww! Thank youuu! You kind words inspire me to do better and to make more videos! I wish you all the best in your new found passion! Cheers!
Very true! It's extremely handy overall!
Now I may be switching to Rekordbox anyway because I'm currently looking at buying an XDJ-XZ although I do think Serato supports it
Yes Serato supports it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
@@djcarlo I ended up getting the Denon Prime 4 and tbh I've never been happier with a purchase
i have the ddj 200 as a beginner and i love it because i can focus on scratching and crossfading which i am not as great at.
Yay! Coool! I am happy for you! Cheers!
Thank you will go for. 400 too cause l just wanna do it at home not for clubbing 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Woot! Woot! Good luck with your purchase and career!
I own a DDJ400..M lovin it.... Better in terms of becoming a pro DJ.
I love the ddj200 it’s my first controller I bought it to learn and see if I would like djing and I fell in love and now I want something better ,thinking about the ddj400 tell I save up for the ddj1000 highly recommend ddj200 if you want to learn .
I m buy 400 yesterday
Osm love it ❤️❤️❤️❤️
All credit 2 u
Thanxx ❤️dj carlo🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
That's a good recommendation! I love the 500 more, but the 300 is a good entry level from Hercules!
I will of course go with the 400 the 200 is to littel and not much to do but the 400 is fun to use
DJ Carlo Atendido the gigs are amazing
I highly recommend best beginner dj controller Pioneer ddj sb 3 , is a controller that has almost everything you need!
Just bought both of them..one for house parties and another for professional work.
Wow! That's awesome! Wish you all the best!
@@djcarlo thanks! 💯
DDJ 400. I own one and love it
Thanks for your helpful vids Kuya Carlo!
I’m a beginner and imma go with the ddj 200 but when I get better I will upgrade
Good for you!! Thanks for watching!
Pioneer DDJ-SB3 is all you need for a first dj controller from Guitar Center and it's only $250 and it runs with Serato Dj.
Thanks for sharing that
Hi, DJ Carlo!
Ummmm, I’m just 14?
And then I still don’t know anything about remixing. What I know is scratches. Vocal scratches, but not in the turntable.
@@pilipiano6728 youtube tutorials man
and im not rich
@@pilipiano6728 save up your money and get the ddj sb3. software? NOT SERATO. Its often reccomended, but its not good for starting out. Use Djay pro 2, its simple and easy to use as well as being compatible with itunes, spotify, and of course downloaded files on your computer.
dj controller: Ddj sb3 (www.pioneerdj.com/en/product/controller/ddj-sb3/black/overview/)
dj software: djay pro 2 (www.algoriddim.com/djay-pro-mac)
the software will have a free trial, but eventually you will have to buy it for 40$.
Thanks for your input! Cheers!
Thanks for the videos. Your mixing is on point going to try the drop mixing and scratching as soon a my 400’s arrive I live in the uk where we are waiting shipment. Pretty annoying as I just want to get on with your tips and tricks.
im just begining to Dj and i think im gonna go with the 200
That's a good controller!
My itty bitty controller is the Hercules DJ Control Instinct. Nice little controller that lasted for years
Nice! Hercules makes some pretty long lasting gear!
@@djcarlo I thought it was surprising in your review that the 200 didn't let you select music in the software when the little Herc Instinct has dedicated folder and file select buttons.
Hi Carlo, thanks for this. Considering on learning how to DJ while on quarantine.
What do you think about the DDJ WeGo4
What i love about my DDJ-RR is that i can preselect 6 FX (3 per deck) its a great feature about it. The only thing i would say is not so good about it is the looping section kinda looks complicated and the in out buttons are tiny but it works.
I will go with Ddj 400
We cant practice beatmatch by headphone with ddj200
I made the mistake you said Carlo went from DDJ200 to 400 & am wishing I had gone probably to the 800 instead now. Your video is great and I agree if you're a casual dj who likes fun the 200 is the way forward but if you want something a little bit more professional the 400 is the way to go. Depends on your perspective just wish I'd seen your video 1st buddy 😉😁 Rob.
Thanks for updating me! Wishing you all the best despite the despites!
@@djcarlo saving for the 800 now ssshhh! Don't tell the wife 😬😬😜😂
You can buy a small midi controller like a launchpad and midi map missing feature
DJ Carlo Atendido Yes, very useful, use it with traktor s2 (the old one), I put effects, song navigation, and hotcues.
cool hadn't even thought of that. but i suppose i could use my ableton push to control recordbox functions . interesting
i think the ddj-400 is when you want to learn to dj, i have bought it and in 1 month i've learned to beatmatch, dropmix and sometimes throwing some effects to switch songs (this looks so easy but it's harder then it looks :P)
Can you make 1 video (if you also get request from other people) about how you orginize you're music and where you get your stuff from, cause i cannot imagine you just rip of youtube XD
Please make a tutorial with ddj 200 for android
Hmmmm! That's kind a challenge! Let see what I can do for that Android.
Yeah android is sucks
I wish I had enough money for the 400 but unfortunately I am going to have to go with the 200 just for now and hopefully one day I will be able to buy a better controller ( even better than the 400 😂 )
Same

Goodluck :)
I would recommend the Pioneer DJ FLX4 or Hercules Inpulse 500. Both are great controllers at great prices
@@djcarlo Thank you for the response. Don't you think that FLX4 or Inpulse 500 would be a bit overwhelming for him, taking into account that he doesn't have experience with DJ decks?
Am a beginner thanks DJ Carlo for the info think I'll get the 200
No problem 👍 Let us know how it goes for you!
The 400, it's a great beginner controller, but can let you advance with its addition features 👍
And my dad is has got the DDJ 200 and it didn’t come yet so It comes tomorrow and Santa bought a case for it
both nice units, I have the 200 and for around the house it is epic.
I’m a beginner to DJing and after watching this video I’ve decided to buy the ddj400 because it’s bigger better not to simple and not just a cheaply made toy to have fun on the only thing that I am a bit iffy about is that the 200 has a tutorial and the 400 doesn’t
Woot! Thanks! There’s a bunch of DDJ 400 tutorials in my channel that you can enjoy! Cheers!
I recently just got the ddj 200 but next Christmas I will hope fully be better and get the 400
I love my DDJ-400. Not only because I own it :D , but it also works perfectly with djay Pro also (Spotify!), but it also works perfectly with the djay app on my iPhone.
Also, I am routing the RCA output from it through a Rolls HE (I have some noise issues with my USB sockets on the MBP), and that also converts the audio to balanced signal.
very good and informative video as always. my mom wants me to be a doctor but I want to be a dj i think i will buy the 400 when i get the money
Thanks, you helped me easily make up my mind, I go for the 400, cheers
Can you do a comparison of the ddj-rb and ddj-400 pleaseee. I can't decide what should i buy. Love your vidss man you're an inspiration to all beginner djs
ddj 400 best for learning
If you like DJing go with 400 and upgrading to the 800 or 1000 will be easier.
DDJ 400 or the hercules Inpulse 300? For a beginner what do i need to get?
Go for the 300 now! The 400 has been discontinued
Ddj 400 is my favorite
I love your videos btw! I just wanted to say I'm just starting to DJ, I got a Numark ns7III for a ridiculously cheap price and as a starter unit it's a little daunting but damn do I love it!
@@djcarlo In reality, I'm not very good with it yet (your drop mix tutorial was very helpful) I've really got to work on mixing and transitions and fundementals, but while I'm doing that I'm also practicing creative stuff with loops and such. I just recorded my first little mix, it's dubstep so you may not be into it but I'll link it just in case.
Listen to Phynne's Phyrst by Koy The Artist on #SoundCloud

Thank you for the vid and tips. I will buy controller for my gigs
Ddj 400 I think is so perfect
With its software
Good for you if that works! Cheers!
I have a full tutntable DVS set which is my main baby, but my ddj400 back up is awesome. I used it at 4 gigs this year (gig was low paying) and it is great, used it with the xp1. also the ddj400 can be used with djay, on ios
Please do a T-Shirt giveaway Carlo!!
I badly love your Rekordbox T-Shirt!!
Nice video man
The difference is the 400 is sold out and scalped for 3x the price, while the 200 is available on the market
That's unfortunate. But I'm not surprised, given that the 400 is a really good entry-level controller
Can be nice to do a video of "Ultra portable Djing" on the go, travel or backpack setup :)
which controller is better? I work abroad and travel alot, so can be a hassle to have something as big as the 400 :)
Backpacking DJ options?
Thanks for that idea! I might have this "category" on my future videos.
Hey I'm 49 and just bought the ddj200 to start a new hobby before putting money in a ddj400 or bigger. Only challenge has been with ipad or my android what to use i tried djay since I have spotify but that's going away in july on the app ,have edjay as well with soundcloud. Wedj on ipad wasnt good at I haven't tried rekorbox with beats yet. But I will see by the end of the year do I want to move up to the next controller! Watched your vids and you help me make a decision between numark starter deck and ddj200. Thanks!!!!👌
Awesome! I'm so happy you decided on DJing as a new hobby! Woot woot! Hope all goes well with you!
I bought a sale DDJ RR recently, for a P25,000 pesos, or $480 US. I really liked the sequencer feature which I realize later that its not hard to do on my laptop.
DDJ-400
DDJ 400 Because, I feel more confidence with DDJ 400 more than DDJ 200
thanks for sharing your preference!
Do I need an extra software if I buy a 200? Is it compatible with serato pro?
And I didn't get the difference.. The 200 comes without soundcard? Meaning that the 200 can't just be connected with laptop and boxes and I will need more? Thank you
I like the ddj 400 more because you have way more Features without Looking on the screen
DJ Carlo Atendido i will! :D i Hope you make more Videos with it! :D
Do you recommend me the 200, 400 or Flx4 for a beginner?
FLX4 would be the way!
