Purchased immediately, Best Bang for your Buck that I have seen in 20+ years. Incredible controller, only downside is the learning curve for Rekordbox.
I have just spent a week researching whether to buy the rx or the rz. I saw this controller in suggested vids and thought it was around 3,000 usd. Once I saw the price, and features I immediately bought the 1000. Best controller, closest to cdjs, and lowest price. Hands down, the best by pioneer
Just bought last night and it is ace! Love the fact I get everything in one unit and I can use my DJS 1000 with it too. Really looking forward to mixing with it.
Kere Amohau What I would love to see is 2 separate screens (no stacked waves for visual beat matching. And the exact same browsing work flow as the the CDJs
Well Denon has the 8000 ... They can keep ignoring the 4 channel stand-alone option all they want. They already killed the RZ ... who in their right mind gonna pay 2k for it when the 1000 is better?
After buying the 1000, and owning the RZ, I can sort of agree, but they are different animals. The RZ really opens up everything in Rekordbox, with the 1000 its a bit more work to get deep into the software, specifically the easy search functions, gridding functions on the fly, and effects parameters. The jogs feel ok on the 1000, but IMO the RZ feels way better. Much more solid feeling. The 1000 does have the best crossfader I have felt in Pioneer gear, but I feel the jogs are closer to the XDJ line not the Nexxus line.
Personally think this is a statement of intent from Pioneer, This really is a great piece of kit and when i heard the price i was very surprised. I really think Denon have rattled their cage a little and we are going to see some healthy competition in the future which in turn is going to be passed down to the customer in the form of lower prices.
Fantastic review! I have been thinking about switching from Serato to Rekordbox and buying a new controller. Still debating it over in my head. This really helps me understand this controller and more, Rekordbox. Thanks!
Love your reviews. I'm getting one tomorrow. Bought the ddj rx last week the day after I bought it I found out about this. Needless to say that I sent the rx back to get this. Super excited to get my mitts on it

Great review Jamie. I like your objective and fresh kind of reviews a lot! In my opinion the best in the market (worth a lot because its coming from a German ;-) ) I've ordered my DDJ-1000 yesterday - it will hopefully arrive next Monday. Sold my RZ last week, immediately after the press release from Pio. regarding the new DDJ. Used my RZ in conjunction with a NXS2 setup (RZ for training purposes on a different location) and imho this new combo (DDJ-1000 / NXS2) setup will satisfied my needs much more than the old combo. And finally: an unbeatable price. Concerning software - I used all of them: Traktor (outdated), Serato (more or less equal to RB), Prime (very buggy , unstable and 2 years behind the leaders) RB (actually the fastest evolving DJ-software on the market with plenty of unique/good features, could be a bit more stable)
wow! i was totally saving up for an sx2, but this thing has completely changed my mind about that. can't believe pioneer is practically giving this thing away.
If only Pioneer would make a hybrid of the XDJ-RX2 and the DDJ-1000! That would be the ultimate game changer for the home/bar/wedding setup. The DDJ-1000 would be perfect if it supported USB's, needle search/wave form option via 7" screen, vinyl speed adjust, release/start. Send/receive and Rec Out on a controller would be nice. Price tag of £1799 and they will not be able to make them fast enough!
This is by far the best Controller I owned. Whenever I deejay in a Club on CDJs I don’t have to get familiar with the DJ booth. I even miss the pads on the CDJs so I sometimes take the controller to the Club nevertheless. 😉
Really amazing unit, I love It! I think options to customize the jog wheels displays would be the icing on the cake. For example if they could make the other decks beatgrid appear each side like cdjs do, option to hide the bpm, zoom into waveform.... etc. At the moment you can hide the hot cue, artwork and adjust brightness thats it. Aside that i would fully rate this controller it's excellent.
I am not a big fun of dj controllers (more prefer CDJ or the standalone XDJ range) but this looks very interesting to me so will give a try and see if the DDJ 1000 is any better than my RX2 (or RX1). So just ordered one! I think if you would add 2 screens and make it stand alone... hmmm... that would be the heaven for all mobile djs. :D
OMG this is a sick controller I can't wait to get one. I did not want to pay for the DDJ sz2 but wanted a controller and had 2 sound cards for when my friend and I are djing.
Yeah they really are! I love how they’ve fit the full size jog wheels into a smaller controller rather than having to get something the size of an RZ/SZ2.
I am absolutely in love with this controller. It's a few hundred dollars more than the SX2 I have already. But the fact that it features REAL cdj jogs (mechanical one's), is a huge plus for me as I love the feel of CDJs. The price is a huge statement by pioneer. They could have easily charged $1799 for this controller or more as the RZ is way more than the ddj 1000.
2 7” screens for browsing tracks, 2 USB type A slots for a thumb drive and not having to use my laptop with this exact design... I’d happily pay 1000 more. Kind of feel pioneer failed on that one... But this is the current best mimic of an actual club set up without the 6k price tag.So I’ll roll the dice lol
I"ve just spent 3.5 hours mixing R&B/Rap and some Dub plate specials on my new DDJ-1000. My general comment is YES IT's HOT. ( on fire ). Just Buy It you won't be disappointed. Its all good so I will only mention the negatives I noted but note that I haven't used any of its line or Micc inputs at this point. 1. The white colour FX's buttons are too bright and cannot be turned down although the plater and the text displays can be. I used a bit of news paper to cover the bright white lights although they may help when DJing in a dark location. 2. I noted quite early on that the unit is not USB powered. The unit is powered via an external 12v DC transformer/brick which is also used on the DJM450 and the XDJ-700. (Just to be noted). 3. I upgraded my MacBook Pro to RekordboxDJ 5.1.1 and noted additional features and items within the menu to allow me to alter items on the DDJ-1000 (All good). I sharped up the platters response. I whilst Im not a turntableist I found that I could cut, scratch and juggle Ragga without difficulty or effort. In fact I forgot I was working from files on my mid 2012 MacBook Pro. (16GB Ram). 4. The unit felt a little bit cramped as the distance between the platter and the fader is less than what you would find coming of your normal CDJ and DJM setup as the mixer part is slightly slimmer than normal. I found that I adjusted my favourite side slightly closer to me with the other side pushed slightly further away then adjusted my standing position. I took me around 10 minute to get used to this ( not standing completely flat on in front of the unit ). 5. It would have been a good idea to allow users to be able to change the colour Fx's in a similar way to how you can on a DJM S9. Some of the colour Fx's like Pitch may never be used. Sweep would have been better as included on the DJM 450. ALL IN ALL this DDJ-1000 is the best (so far) REKORDBOX DJ controller for me and I've used it all. This will make a few heads turn. Sorry for the typo's (big night last night / NUFF Vibes)....
It looks like a fantastic controller for those who want more than an SX but aren't willing to buy/carry a SZ around, however I'll only be investing in one if it's supported by 3rd party software providers, I'm still not convinced that RB is quite there.
That may be the case, but it really depends on how many features/functions you use daily in a different program, that you wouldn't want to lose, yet aren't implemented into RB. It's functional and has some advantages, but it doesn't tick all of my boxes yet (yes I'm fussy).
I'm not going to get into a debate, but I beta test for multiple platforms and have been using DJ software since 1999. Once you've invested serious time into one system, you come to know it inside and out, switching is no longer something of trivia like it may be for a more casual DJ.
I have already pre-ordered it. 50 in back oredr in Canada. I just bought the DDJ SX2 last year. this is exactly what I was looking for. shame it didnt come out a year earlier. Anxious to get it in. Probably April b4 I see it though.
How is the build quality compared to the more expensive controllers which you mention? I can see the knobs aren't the same as on the DJM900 NX2. Thanks for the video!
The build quality is similar to the SX2/RX range rather than the bigger controllers. The pots are plastic not metal. Jog wheels feel the same build as CDJs. All in all its built well but the bigger controllers will be more robust for sure!
I'm very torn now between this controller and the DDJ-RX. I've played around with the Serato variant of the DDJ-RX and love it. But now I feel like I should spend some time with the DDJ-1000 to see if that would change my mind.
Nice device. Love the jog wheels. I‘m just missing a touch sensitive needle search + recordbox dj only is an aspect, where i’m unsure about. How is the software running? Do you like it in comparison to Searto DJ & Traktor? I‘m a Serato DJ user for 3 years now & it didn‘t crash once on my MacBook
I use Serato and Rekordbox religiously. Both strong pieces of software. Rekordbox has been really stable for me recently. I prefer DVS with Serato still but rekordbox DVS still works well. Just a personal preference. I feel like rekordbox is closer to a hybrid of traktor and VDJ visually whereas Serato has a really clean simplicity to it. Again personal opinions... you can perform just as well with either software but this is definitely an exciting product from Pioneer. This would be perfect for any regular CDJ users thinking about a controller.
thx for your reply, exactly what i was thinking. in clubs i play usb, but would love to have the great jog feeling at home for a more humanous price point than a "cdj setup". DDJ1000 seems to fit that spot very well. :-)
Just set mine up a lot to get familiar with stepping from Serato to RB.Initial criticisim feels a bit plasticky we shall see how it holds up looking forward to getting to grips with it tho ....great Vid learnt a few things.
Would have bought in a sec if it had capability to play off a flash drive. I throw small parties and I do not have any dj friends that use rekordbox on a laptop. I just sold my nexus set up because it was such a pain in the ass to bring everywhere. I guess I'll have to save up for the Pioneer DJ XDJ-XZ.
I'm either gonna get this or the 1000SRT for Serato. I've used Serato for years, and it's what I'm most comfortable using. However, it seems like the 1000 for Rekordbox is a better controller in certain ways. Plus, it'll make me more familiar with the CDJ software at clubs. Do you think that it would be a wise decision to make the switch to Rekordbox? And if so, how hard would it be to get used to? I'm definitely getting one or the other. Thank you, I hope to hear from you soon!
I was awaiting for a video like this. Thanks for sharing with us. You just helped to choose which controller to choose. There is no brainier this is going to be one of the best controller on the market with such a good price. Keep doing a good work 👌
i have the ddj rx, but once i saw this i was shocked into buying this before i even manage to sell the r. i need a controller for places i dj at were cdjs are not available and would consider myself trained to switch to cdjs with confidence after training on this, a confidence not fully felt after training on the rx.
Is this unit still relevant today, or should I just wait for the new releases from Pioneer DJ that have been rumored for next year? I have the FLX6 now, but I want to upgrade.
I do quite like this, I’m an RX user myself and though missing some of my favorites in loop slicer/slicer mode, sampler record etc, I really want some of the features here such as the mobius effects and the keyboard haha 🤣
I'm thinking of Buying the Rekordbox version of this as I'm visually Impaired and am about to start getting gigs so I want something exactly like this because It's cheaper than CDJs and It will help me get the layout a lot easier especially in dark environments!!!!
Bad ass!!! totally agree Jamie best parts are jog wheel and performance pads!! Very surprised at that price too! I was expecting more since like you said, there are higher priced ones on the market right now. I want to trade my newly purchased sx2 for one lol
It looks like a great unit. I'm wondering is there any hidden cost saving in this unit? Is the sound quality of the mixer decent? Is the headphone output nice and loud?
I am thinking about upgrading my equipment. Been using Numark Mixtrack Pro II for almost 7 years now I think it's time to go more pro. I just absolutely love this model and the jog wheels just look so good!
Thank you, great in-depth review. Wow this looks like a lot of controller for the money packed with great features. I am going to purchase this as my mobile DJ controller. Does it work with RB video? Can you test video? Can you also test DVS? Thanks.
No you won’t be able to add it into the fx channel. The only thing you could consider is adding it to the sampler but that would literally just be an audio file of the saw/sine. You won’t be able to change its length or anything.
For the price Pioneer killed it with this unit...Definitely getting one. My only question is can it be setup inside the software to somehow accommodate the playing of STEMS on this unit?
I feel like you might be able to play the stems files but I doubt you will be able to isolate the different frequencies like on the traktor units. I may have to research a little further...

yep, i think the needle search is the only thing that lets this down but its not a deal breaker.
yea i'm with you
Just set mine up a lot to get familiar with stepping from Serato to RB.Initial criticisim feels a bit plasticky we shall see how it holds up looking forward to getting to grips with it tho ....great Vid learnt a few things.
Can you change the jog display layout? Looks a bit cramped to me. And how is sound quality compared to other pioneer setups?
Yeah you can change it slightly and take certain features on and off.
Sound card is 24 bit/44.1 kHz.
Would you consider this a beginners DJ thing or can you do clubs with this
If this thing had flash drive capability my head would of exploded smh lol
*would have
does it work with virtual 8
Would have bought in a sec if it had capability to play off a flash drive. I throw small parties and I do not have any dj friends that use rekordbox on a laptop. I just sold my nexus set up because it was such a pain in the ass to bring everywhere. I guess I'll have to save up for the Pioneer DJ XDJ-XZ.
@@nathanbliss8259 Yeah sounds like a better deal
You're a great presenter, mate.
I was deciding between RZX & 1000 and your video helped tremendously.
Great to hear!
Ordered mine today! Should be here next week! 😭🙏🏻🙏🏻
How is it
I'm either gonna get this or the 1000SRT for Serato.
Keep doing a good work 👌
UGH that song tho.
It's called you & I (1644)_Master from Ojay beats. But I can't find it anywhere :(
@Columbo And what is the original version?
i have the ddj rx, but once i saw this i was shocked into buying this before i even manage to sell the r. i need a controller for places i dj at were cdjs are not available and would consider myself trained to switch to cdjs with confidence after training on this, a confidence not fully felt after training on the rx.
The song sounds a bit annoying for review, too much 'You and I' being repeated. Besides that, everything of ur video is so great as always!!
Will keep that in mind for our next review. Less vocals... 👌🏼
great review. answered all the questions i had even the price range in compression to the other controllers by pioneer
You got one already!!!
Yeah! 🙌🏼
Many places are selling them already.
Really? I thought that they're coming out only in February(?)
Do a quick search online. Lots of places are stocking them early.
Like where? Haven't seen any North American stores..
Is this unit still relevant today, or should I just wait for the new releases from Pioneer DJ that have been rumored for next year? I have the FLX6 now, but I want to upgrade.
i wish they came out with this a year ago, i would have totally got this instead of the ddj rx for 200 dollars more.
Sell and upgrade. I only bought my RX in Sep and di just that.
Magin1985, yes thats my plan, i think. I will probably do just that.
Bryan Scarpino I’ll buy your rx mate
Brad Wilson, maybe we can work something out. Ill get back at you.
I do quite like this, I’m an RX user myself and though missing some of my favorites in loop slicer/slicer mode, sampler record etc, I really want some of the features here such as the mobius effects and the keyboard haha 🤣
I'm thinking of Buying the Rekordbox version of this as I'm visually Impaired and am about to start getting gigs so I want something exactly like this because It's cheaper than CDJs and It will help me get the layout a lot easier especially in dark environments!!!!
shame theres no official bag for it, so cant buy one yet. dont need a flight case.
buy handmaded hard case. Or buy furniture and make by yourself, it's easy
Excellent review thanks. i am expecting delivery soon... Question: Does the Midi work with Virtual DJ out of the box?
I think you can now download a midi mapping for VDJ. You'll have to let the community know how you have got on with it and VDJ.
Does need a software ? Or can we play like the new controllers ? Without pc
The BEST review on ddj 1000.
Thanks
The amount of times you say "Just like on CDJs" makes me really really want to buy one right now
Already purchased it can't wait to try it!
I love this Controller, as soon as the Mapping is done for Virtual Dj 8.2, I will be thinking about trading in my DDJ SX2 for it,
Has the mapping been done for VDJ 8.2?
Thinking about upgrading from my DDJ FLX6 to this or an 800 definatley want this now thank you
I never thought I would give up Serato DJ and my DDJ SX2.
Maybe not. Looks like a real pain in the ass to switch SDJ library to RB...
So do I.....Just watch a video on here. I will not take the chance...
Excellent review. The pads were explained so well.
wow its great one, I love DDJ-1000, gonna make it as my first controller
Bad ass!!! totally agree Jamie best parts are jog wheel and performance pads!! Very surprised at that price too! I was expecting more since like you said, there are higher priced ones on the market right now. I want to trade my newly purchased sx2 for one lol
Thanks for this. Would you recommend this for today's djs and how good is it in clubs? Thanks 👍
Thinking about trading my DDJSX in and getting this one, it's dope!
Pre ordering mine now, Have an SX2 but cant pass this up!
4 years later, still out if stock in the world
It looks like a great unit.
Thanks.
Great in-depth review mate mine on its way to me right now really looking forward to having that club standered set up for a fraction of the price ..
Will this controller run without the need for a computer
how do you tap cue button to beat match on this controller? thx in advance?
Thank God your overview how about to select song for display
12:35 can you add your own custom saw or sine wave from a DAW?
No you won’t be able to add it into the fx channel. The only thing you could consider is adding it to the sampler but that would literally just be an audio file of the saw/sine. You won’t be able to change its length or anything.
Crossfader figured that...what a shame. :/ and they were SO close.
Got this controller and it's AMAZING!!
I am thinking to get pioneer ddj 1000 as I already play the pioneer ddj 400 to its fullest potential.
The full size jog wheels on this controller is crazy
Great presentation!
Question: How do you capture a sample from a track?
By pressing the record button
For the price Pioneer killed it with this unit...Definitely getting one. My only question is can it be setup inside the software to somehow accommodate the playing of STEMS on this unit?
I feel like you might be able to play the stems files but I doubt you will be able to isolate the different frequencies like on the traktor units. I may have to research a little further...
Im puttin one on lag away friday....cant wait..great video
