The '80s decade was the beginning of the "Turbo Revolution" you could say. Buick really opened eyes with the notorious Regal T-type, Grand National and legendary GNX model. Ford introduced their turbo project in the SVO Mustang and Dodge was doing really cool things with Carol Shelby. This clip features one of the biggest sleepers ever to hit the streets. If you thought the Buicks were sleepers, well check out Dodge's turbocharged GLHS Omni lol. For me this is tough to watch as the 1985 and 1986 GT is my all time favorite 5-liter Foxbody Mustang model. Especially in Oxford white with the black accents and trim. But on the other hand it is so cool watching this little underdog sleeper compete with the powerful V8 lol.

Thank you bud! I figured people would love to jump in the #MustangTown Time Machine and see what '80s muscle cars actually ran in brand new factory showroom stock form. People don't realize that the 5.0 Mustang, IROC-Z Camaro, Formula 350, Grand National and even Dodge's little turbo tuner cars actually were competitive with the muscle cars of the late '60s and early '70s. The common "run of the mill" muscle cars that is. The LS6 Chevelle, Stage 1 GS Buick, HEMI Road Runner, 'Cuda & Challenger and other more specialty and rare big block models were different story. But even they became exaggerated over the years. Most of those were just 13 second cars... but most of the regular muscle cars from that era were just 14 second cars, just like the performance models of the '80s.

Those Big block muscle cars would have run much better times with today's tires. The bias ply radials weren't much for traction. Remember, if you're spinnin, you ain't winnin!

That's an amazing run by the omni! Just shows you those 2.2L turbos could hang with the V8s back in the day

14.7 was quick in the '80s. A buddy of mine in 1987 had a brand new Shelby Charger that we took to Ocean City, Maryland for beach week. We raced so many IROC-Z Camaros and 5.0 Mustangs lol

As someone who has owned Fox Bodies and Turbo Dodges- the 2.2 turbo with an intercooler is a good match for the 5.0 stock vs stock.

I had an Asian buddy back in 1987-88 that had a 1985 or 86 Turbo Shelby Charger. It was the maroon or burgundy color with gray accents/trim on the hood, kind of like the 85-86 Mustangs had charcoal/matte black on the hood. Anyway, he had a chip in it and a couple other little tweaks but it ran very well! We were coming back from beach week at Ocean City and raced our buddy's 1985 TPI IROC-Z that also had a chip and gears (maybe exhaust too, I don't remember) and Khan's Turbo Shelby Charger hung right in there with the IROC-Z. We were impressed lol. Such fun days! I have so many memories and stories from the late '80s!

Not alot of people knew what they were capable of but they were very fast little cars and the thing about it is, you don't really hear much talk of them compared to others.
