Jeep Gladiator (and JL) Auxiliary Battery Bypass (Single Battery Conversion) No More Dead Batteries

  • After having battery issues with my 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, I did a little research to see if I could pinpoint the problem. From what I can gather, the smaller auxiliary battery had gone bad and was brining down my main battery.
    Since I used the Tazer to keep the auto stop-start feature disabled on my JT, it stood to reason that I should be able to bypass the smaller battery altogether. So, that's exactly what I did with great results.
    Here's the link to the battery I used: www.autozone.com/batteries-st...

    @ali_mansour_editor - Thanks for yet another informative JT video. My 2021 JT Mojave failed to start yesterday as my wife & I were about to head off to church. My wife's Toyota Highlander got us there.Of course, after church, lunch, & returning home, my "go to" was TH-cam (is there anything that needs to be done that cannot be found on a detailed YT video? LOL!). My JT entered service in May of '21, so although I'm just over 37K miles, I have a few more weeks to reach the "36 month" service entry ending timeline. Some YT videos proclaim that the AUX battery has a 36-mo FREE replacement warranty. Would be nice, but IDK. However, I do have an extended warranty on this JT, and I'm curious whether bypassing the AUX battery will void any portion of my extended warranty? Also, If I replace just the main battery while at the parts store, will I be able to get her home without changing or removing the AUX battery until I get back home? I'm aware that a dead AUX battery will eventually drain the main battery as well, but how long will that take? Anyone who knows, please feel free to reply here.

    • @Ali_Mansour_Editor
      @Ali_Mansour_Editor  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can’t address the warranty stuff because I honestly don’t know. However, you can install a fresh battery without removing the AUX battery and drive around like that until you get a chance to pull the other one. That I do know will work. I personally would just bypass the battery, but that’s something you might not need to do since you have the extended warranty. Let them put another one in there and you might get another few years without an issue.

You told us that if you have a 2021 jeep or newer, you do have to connect the original ground(the small aux battery) to your the main battery's or you will get an error. The newer Gladiator's and Wrangler's aux battery negative goes from the battery to the firewall then back to the battery. The 2020 and older models only runs from battery to battery. My friends at Genesis Off-Road (which make a dual battery kit for these platforms) were kind enough to share that info with me.

    So Genesis says this is the method they use for their DBS. I went ahead and did this mod yesterday. Went well. The adapters under the fuse box were a bit tricky to remove - I found by getting my hand underneath each one and wiggling from side to side got them out. After that it was pretty striaght forward. Putting it all back went easy. I taped up the AUX neg lead and left it in the AUX battery box. I attached the pos lead from the AUX to main pos terminal by flipping it upside down like you did here. One question I have is if I need to jump start the vehicle, can I now just attach the jumper cables to the Main battery pos/neg like normal correct? My next mod will be to disable ESS by disconnecting hood latch warning sensor and skip the extra $300 for the Tazer.

    • @Ali_Mansour_Editor
      @Ali_Mansour_Editor  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Correct. If you need to jump start your Jeep, just correct the cables to the main battery post. From what I understand, if you disconnect the latch sensor and bypass the battery you will have a warning light stay on the dash and it will tell you Stop Start is disabled when you enter the vehicle.

      The reason is because the negative cable that connects to the small battery is just a cable going from the big battery to it. So, by connecting it, you’re just making a horseshoe. There’s no need for it.

      Doing this mod does create the potential for the dealership to deny warranty to things that pertain to the battery. They are not going to deny your rear axle breaking because of this, but it's possible they could give you a hard time if you had something electrical malfunction. It usually all comes do to the service writer at the dealership.

      This is what the service manager told me, don't know how much of it is true. The pcm will show it being flashed from the tazer and will void the oem warranty. I'm not going to take the chance with one until it is out of warranty.

    • @Ali_Mansour_Editor
      @Ali_Mansour_Editor  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Brown-papi the honest answer is I don't know. From what I understand, pulling that fuse won't allow the computer to talk/check on the AUX battery. I was also under the impression this would give you the stop/star error code and light. I've only ready online where others have pulled the fuse and negative cable. I don't know of anyone personally who has done it. Everyone that I have encountered with AUX battery issues has done what I have. It's pretty easy to just remove the AUX battery. So, I would do that regardless if you want to keep the fuse pulled.

      @@Ali_Mansour_Editor the only problem i noticed is that when you pull up at the light and the car turns off, the jeep asks to put the jeep in park to keep then back to drive to keep driving. The Tazer is a module that you plug in under the dash of your Jeep. The one I have cost a little over $300. It allows you to modify things such as tire size, gear ratios, and in this case, let’s you turn off the auto stop start permanently. It’s essentially pressing the off button for that feature for you every time you start the vehicle.

    Do you still have to pull the fuse?

  • @fiftyshadesofurban
    @fiftyshadesofurban 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don't understand this. Many people say to pull the F42 fuse, and then to take the black cable with the 13mm nut off of the ground of the battery and leave the other one on (the one with the smaller nut that takes both cables off)..
    And they say this disconnects the AUX battery and turns the ESS off.. but when I do this, my vehicle has no power when the cable that they say is the aux battery cable is not connected to the ground.
    I don't feel like going through all that work to take out the aux battery..
    but I believe that my aux battery has died and is now draining my main battery. I could take it to the dealer and get it replaced but I am selling a lot of stuff on eBay and I don't want the hassle of a dead car and being unable to drive right now.

    • @Ali_Mansour_Editor
      @Ali_Mansour_Editor  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've never pulled the fuse. You do need to pull the AUX battery so you can attach the positive lead to the main battery. If your Jeep is 21 and newer, you will need to attach the ground from the Aux battery to the main battery as well. I've done this exact swap on multiple Jeeps and have been running this way for YEARS with no issue.
