Matt - you have saved me hundreds of strokes this year. Fifty rounds/year X 4 strokes = 200. So, I’m not exaggerating. Any time someone comments favorably on my game, I tell them they need Mr. Short Game. Keep up the good work.

I have to say that I didn’t consider the front pad idea. But it’s the way I putt. It’s better to be clear about what I’m doing. Now I can feel more in control of my putting technique. Golf can be so unnerving that being more thoughtful can only help me maintain my composure. Thanks Matt

Do whatever feels comfortable and do it a lot!!!! putting is an art and mostly green reading. Practice hitting thru a gate for the first 2 feet and make sure you can start it online. Once you are confident you can start it straight, the rest is all matching speed and line. aka green reading.

Well damn! I had 2 of the 3 things wrong in my grip Matt. First off,the way to check your grip pressure is brilliant, I was totally gripping way too hard. But the real kicker was having pressure on upper vs lower pads - what a difference that makes! And I'd never heard that tip before.
I've putted SO much better the past 3 rounds since working on these 2 things. Shot 77 today and most of the putts looked like they had a chance to go in. Now I just need to improve my reads.
    THANKS!

Wooooooow!!! I’ve never heard anyone explain the front/back pad in the putter grip before!! This was an Ahaaa moment for me. I always knew high hands were preferable, but it always felt so awkward and locked me up. Now it makes perfect sense. Thank you so much Matt :)

I never thought about holding the putter in the upper pads of my hands. That really helps me keep the putter more upright. I worked on it this morning and it has made a huge difference. Thanks Matt!

It's amazing how much grip changes putting. I had a hard time over squeezing so I tried an interlocking grip and tipping the putter up a bit higher. I rarely 3 putt now.

Interesting. I had always come at the front/back pad issue as; hold your clubs in your fingers and the putter in your palms, definitely not fingers. Same/same I guess.

Pretty good at putting. I quit trying to fight myself and grip my left hand pretty hard. Just they way I do it. Turns out to be a benefit in pressure situations, when I tend to tense up anyway. At that point it is how I already grip amped up. Seems like no adjustment is better than trying to relax or calm down. Not suggesting anyone do it. I am saying everyone should try it multiple ways and find what you like and can perform with consistently, personally for you with whatever ailments you have.

Quick eyes can help steady the putting stroke. We plan and dream our golf swing. It’s so much easier to be possessive of the putting stroke.

Mid season I switched to a tight grip with low hands. Have never putted so well. The death grip has taken out the wrist movement I used to have resulting in better distance and accuracy.

To say always in that putting grip is misleading. Steve stricker, Brad faxon, Ben Crenshaw and pat obrian use and teach a grip where the putter grip rests on the rear pad of the left hand. With players like that suggesting that grip I think it is a mistake to say you should “never” do it. Nothing wrong with using and teaching something different than what they use but saying they are wrong is a mistake imho,

    • @BuffaloNickel9

This video is wrong claiming to NEVER do this or that.... it should be listed as suggestions, instead.
First off if you're making putts, you can do whatever is working!
#2) saying " if you're on tour, you can do whatever you want." well how do you think they got on tour? They were once not on tour when they were Juniors and amateurs- just like someone could be right now growing up!
Don't ever let someone tell you there's something you can't do or there's a certain way you have to do everything!
You do whatever works for you- but you must be honest with yourself if its actually working or not.
I mean good grief, a rule that you can't let the putter grip touch a certain part of the pad on your hand?...but you can grip it like a neanderthal with a "wrist lock" running all the way up against your doggone forearm like a goon?
Yeah right? that's acceptable but never let the putter touch the wrong pad on your hand?
And if you want to put the completely wrong hand on top or bottom and call it "cross hand"- go for it...
Good grief come on now how do you think these things became accepted?
because someone went against the rules of "NEVER do this.."
Like the gentleman said above, this video is misleading I would much rather Trust the players listed above who teach a grip which doesn't follow these "rules.."
Remember growing up when they told us there was only one way to swing a golf club? 😅...
And there was only one type of Putter, and that was a blade putter?
