I’ve watched hundreds if not thousands of how to golf videos. You absolutely nailed it with this video, here’s why. You speak very clearly, precise and short when describing the tips. After every tip you hit the ball. NOBODY ELSE DOES THIS! It’s 5 minutes of talk then maybe hit a ball or have somebody else hit a ball then another 5 minutes of talk or having someone else talk. You’re going places, all your videos kick ass. Thank you
I am a owner of a 2 iron Taylormade GAPR. I brought this club a few months ago and failed to hit it. I thought I had wasted my money until I came across this video. Without even going to the range I took these tips to my next game and could not believe the results! I used the 2 iron 4 times in my round and hit the ball long and straight each time. I watch a lot of videos on golf tips and this has to be one of the best set of tips that have ever worked for me. Thank you!
Pulled out my 3 and 4 iron from my bag. Just extra weight and could never hit them. Watched this video by accident and proceeded to hit my first hole in one in 35 plus year's of golfing! Using your tips I pulled my driver out of my bag forcing me to use long irons for a few rounds. Got really comfortable hitting my 4 iron. At 69 year's old 20 to 22 handicap my daughter took me out golfing for father's day along with my wife and brother in law. 165 par 3 using a 4 iron. Long irons back in my bag! Thanks for the tip! My 4 iron now is getting out around 180.
Took this to the course last weekend. Watched hundreds of videos on this subject. This weekend the Angel's sang. I hit the 3,4, and 5 irons of my dreams the entire round. Best video ever on long irons. No technical talk, just plain English. THANKS!
The best video i’ve seen. Went to range and just striped long irons high and far. You have a talent for teaching that i haven’t seen before in golf videos. Thank you
I've been playing for more than 55 years. That was the clearest explanation of how to swing the club correctly that I've seen. Can't wait for spring golf to practice this. Thanks.
Besides this guys golf swing knowledge and teaching methods how can you not like him ,his enthusiasm and exaggerated analogies are priceless, keep them coming Mat love it.
Man, you hit right on the spot... You don't need fancy words to ensure that every golfer will be able to understand... Solid concepts!!! Great videos...
I started watching your videos last year when Covid started. I put a fire on in the garage, hung up some nets and blankets etc that I could hit balls into. I haven't stopped watching since then. It's great tips without the feel of instruction.
Thanks. I don’t agree with many TH-cam teachers but I like your tips. Spot on. Folks tense up and think they have to swing long irons harder. If your struggling, try hitting a punch shot at half speed. That will also get you back on plane. Keep up the good videos.
Steve Sleigh, As a legally blind golfer, I only use irons and therefore very dependent of my long irons especially on tee-offs. I was recently having problems shanking off of some tees. I Just watched this video and I'm feeling confident that these 5 + 1 tips will straighten me out. Going out to the front yard to practice my swing. Thanks much.
I love the fact you put these tutorials in language that average golf players can understand and implement. Most golf pros or high level players give way too advanced instructions. Thank you and keep up the great videos, they really help!!!
Just tried everything you said to do. What a game changer. Can't believe how much my accuracy improved and almost shot I hit now is clean vs all the fat and thin and inconsistent right and left shots I've been doing. I'm subscribing for sure. Thanks for the video.
Thankyou, I love the fact the you have the camera front on when demonstrating, all golf instructions i’ve seen on TH-cam are side on, which doesn’t show me the true swing etc. and ditto to all the other positive comments.
Aside from the expertise - Mr Short Game's energy is contagious. If you want to be successful in golf - or ANYTHIING else for that matter - this is the energy you neeeeed.
Add me to the list of believers. I moved the ball up 1 ball position, moved the hands slightly ahead and today I nailed my 4 and 5 iron. It was amazing. You are clear and precise in your teaching. Thank you.
The right shoulder advice has done more for my iron game than anything, ive got a newfound confidence in my irons now, long and short, back one notch, down one notch.....excellent advice, along with ball stance placement, .....excellent advice, new subscriber!!!
The only channel I’ve ever subscribed to!! Mr Short Game is great! Fantastic instruction, positive, gets to the point quickly, plus a bit of humour!! Love it! Thanks
You are the best coach on TH-cam! I love the free bonus sixth tip as if the first five weren’t free. I’m 48 and had shoulder surgery on my right shoulder about a year and a half ago and need shoulder surgery on my left shoulder desperately (I’m waiting til I finish my doctoral degree). I’ve noticed I hit the ball average distances even with a short swing. I wish I could get up as high as you on my backswing.
After watching this video I pure my 3 iron on the regular now, it is back in my bag and go to off the tee, don’t even tee it up most times. Thanks heaps!
So I just went to the range and took down these tips in a notebook...dude.... absolutely stellar advice. The big take away for me was the shoulders down and back. I found it helped straighten my shot, I got the proper height and was generally hitting the ball more true. Didn't even need to utilize power . Earned a sub my man thanks a bunch.
Short games great to watch and easy to understand. I have only be hitting balls for 2weeks! Yep 2weeks. I listened to lots of pros on u tube. Now I only listen to short game, He’s a natural teacher and I get a smile out of his shows. Thank you
I know I am late to this party, but you need to hear this....THIS VIDEO HAS SAVED MY GAME AND MADE ME BREAK 100. I am indebted to these tips I have been hitting my 3,4,5i's wrong for years, and finally I am making solid contact. I am sold, this is my new favorite channel. Thank you sir!!
Now all I need to do is find time to get on the Range. well explained. Ball and Iron forward. Shoulder back and down. Hands parallel swing like in your short game video. Iron. Hips back turn and forward on downswing.
This is absolute class. As a 6 hdcp I know I have a half decent swing but have been hitting long irons/ hybrids all over the shop lately! These simple checkpoints have me puring it 9 out of 10 swings now. Fantastic clarity of instruction and these '5 points' are exactly the things I was doing when hitting it well instinctively, I just was not aware of it!! Cheers from the UK bro, keep the great content coming! 🤛🏽
After watching your video on set up with your irons and driver I went to the range and hit beauties. Always forward pressed with my irons and keeping everything in the center worked. Thank you!
You’re the kinda of guy I’d still want to pay for lessons in person even with free videos like this. We appreciate you good sir 👍🏽 keep up the good work.
Just got a Mizuno HiFli Pro 3 iron, love it but have struggled occasionally. This video has changed my long iron game, and I am playing in my clubs' match play doubles event today, and can't wait to blaze the fairways off the tee and from the fairways when needed. Thank you!
I'd be afraid to tell anyone how good Matt is since they would never believe it. Love his fun and zany but right to the chase uncomplicated vids. He totally gets it and gets it for us. Rock on MSG. Happy Easter.
Thank you! Took an interest in golf last year and feel like such an idiot out there but still having so much fun. Can't wait to try these tips you shared.
You really understand what it is people are looking for. To many videos of a bunch of talking but not actually breaking down the swing and the fine details. Great video.
I want to thank you for your long iron video I thought because of my age 53 I was losing distance especially with my 3 iron not only did I get my distance back I exceeded it by almost 20 yards keep up the good work I will be watching
I come back to all of your videos frequently for a tune up. Just to hear one little piece of something that you said. Shoulder back and down… thats the money tip. Thanks for all the great videos.
First time watcher. I enjoyed these tips. Very clear and easy to understand. I’m on my way to the range and I’m only taking long irons so I can try the 6 keys to pure long irons.
Recently I've finally started hitting my low irons and fairway woods better. The steps you outlined are what I've been working on, but I hadn't yet seen your video. This pulls it all together for me. Will be good reminders if it all goes south on me. Thanks!!
I searched "thin irons" just now on my man Mr. Short Game 'cause I'm SICK of weak iron flares into the bunker or water :/ .. I'm improving everywhere else (thanks, Matt) except in this area. I'm determined to get there, and vid lessons like this one are gonna be key. Appreciate it, boss.
I watched this video. Took it straight out onto the course and shot 83 (par 70) my fifth round of 18 holes and last time out I shot 114 this worked for every club. I didn't have to hit a long iron in the end just used 3 wood and 7 iron basically the whole round and honestly the tip about shoulders back and down seems to have made a huge difference! Thanks!
Something about his almost frantic or even hyper delivery works for me.. subscribed.. and the information is worth my time. I'll bet the one "thumbs down" is his next door neighbor, bitter about those stray golf balls that keep ricocheting off his homes vinyl siding at 6oclock in the morning..
After watching your video, I pushed my right shoulder down and back, and I immediately began hitting my 4 iron more consistently and further than ever before, in fact I was easily flying my 4 iron 210 yards. I felt I was swinging the 4 iron the way it was meant to be swung. What a pleasure. THANK YOU!!!
Long-time golfer, again surprised by how small, incremental adjustments translate to much improved ball striking. An excellent video. Most players take instruction like this (I hate the word “tips”) and over-exaggerate the movements and ball placement. Keep these videos coming.
I’ve watched other videos but for some reason I still couldn’t figure out how to hit my long irons. Watched this one last night, tried it on the range today and it worked! Thanks so much! I’m very happy! 😄
Just played 18 and I gotta say, I didn't hit a single bad long iron! Ball position and club position and the bonus tip (short back swing) was the difference - thanks for those tips plus the other ones in this video. Struggled with par 3's a bit. But... I had 3 pars and a double on the 4 par 5's. Best score on this course in 30+ rounds - 96. Very happy! I would highly recommend getting lessons from you (love your style) - too bad I'm too far away!
So helpful. I was looking for the missing link in my long irons. I tried your method and after a couple swings I was nailing it every time. Game changer
After 3 months of not hitting balls, this morning I decided to go practice at the range and wished I watched this video beforehand. Couldn’t figure all the details of error in my swing but you explained it accurately and orderly, and now I can see exactly where the correction has to happen. Great instructor! Also very enthusiastic!

Wow I agree 1000% with GOAT at golf you speak clearly and hitting the ball so we can see makes it so much easierto understand thanks for those tips Darren C
Your 2 tips (put your right shoulder back and down + move your hands one ball forward) were all I needed to clear up my long iron problems. When I went to the range on Sunday, I hit my long irons better than I have in YEARS!! Thanks!!!
Dude...randomly came across this video. Been playing terribly for over 10 years...this 9 minute video fixed my biggest problems on the course. Even incorporated the shoulder position into my other swings, and it fixed the problems I had there too!!!! Keep on giving us this amazing, awesome content. Thank you!
Bazinga! First, your teaching method of teach and do (immediate) with each step is perfect. It's how I learn! So, my set up takes a bit longer (mental check list) and pisses off my buds, but who cares...I am finally hitting my irons PURE!
Watched this last night. Went out today and used my 4 iron on a 232 par 3. Normally hit hybrid, have tried 3 wood even soft driver. First time I hit This green in last 3 months. Striped it right to the middle. Missed by birdie putt and moved on. This hole almost always cost me a stroke. Great video. thank you.
These 6 tips actually made my long iron result with the 4 iron remarkably straight with very nice height, and that makes the game so much more enjoyable.
@mrshortgamegolf I appreciate you telling the "truth" about hiow to hit the long irons this was clear, concise, and efficiently told ... I feel sorry for the club manufacturers who think golfers will throw away their long irons for some other "messiah" alternative ... we appreciate your effort!
Just started playing golf again after a 15 year hiatus. My long irons used to be my go to, but are now a nightmare. Watched your video, incorporated your tips/suggestions and voila! I'm much improved!! Thanks so much:) Next time you're in Vancouver, Canada, let me take you for a round of golf on me.
Here's the deal. I watched so many videos (by pro teachers), on how to improve my iron play and this is the BEST one hands down. I took your pointers to the driving range and finally it all started coming together and making sense. I then played a round and scored my best game of the year so far. I was hitting my irons pretty sweet...most of the time.

Thanks brother I appreciate that.
Agree 100% with GOAT at golf. Nice job! Looking forward to watching all your vids. Keep up the great work! This was the missing link video for me.
How does he ONLY have 25,000 subs?
Yes, you right ! Even I'm not good English, but I can understand it well.
GOAT....you took the words right out of my mouth! AWESOME video!
I am a owner of a 2 iron Taylormade GAPR. I brought this club a few months ago and failed to hit it. I thought I had wasted my money until I came across this video. 38 years here and I agree
You should move to Arizona we play golf all year around
You are telling me you play golf for 55 years and still haven't master the 3 iron yet?
This guy is literally the best instructor. Whenever I try this shit at the range, it just works
Best long iron video out there. Wrote down these steps and hit 9/10 shots pure with a little draw.
Besides this guys golf swing knowledge and teaching methods how can you not like him ,his enthusiasm and exaggerated analogies are priceless, keep them coming Mat love it.
Seriously one of the best instructors on TH-cam …. Simple and to the point
Concise and to the point. Other videos lose me after lectures that go on endlessly. I like your teaching methods and can’t wait to try them out.
Man, you hit right on the spot... You don't need fancy words to ensure that every golfer will be able to understand... Solid concepts!!! Great videos...

Btw, these tips apply on the hybrids and fairway woods as well! Awesome!
I absolutely love the charisma these videos have. Just by talking you make me feel better at golf 😂
Best TH-cam lesson on long irons ever. Step by step, focus on the set up. Wish this coach lived in Dallas, I'd love to have this guy as a coach.
I love the fact you put these tutorials in language that average golf players can understand and implement. Most golf pros or high level players give way too advanced instructions. Thank you and keep up the great videos, they really help!!!

I am so glad I found your channel. Will be going out tomorrow to practice with my newfound knowledge.
I’m pretty sure I’ve watched almost every long iron lesson on TH-cam and this one by far as helped me the most.
This is an excellent and simple instruction on hitting these, at times, difficult clubs. Thanks!
Some of these comments are spot on. Your videos work for me. Thanks so much for your videos.

Great tips for hitting a long iron. I cannot wait to practice those tips...Thank you!

the best tips I've ever learn, not only for long iron but also short iron, only need adjustment in ball position. thank you very much
After 3 months of not hitting balls, this morning I decided to go practice at the range and wished I watched this video beforehand. Couldn’t figure all the details of error in my swing but you explained it accurately and orderly, and now I can see exactly where the correction has to happen. Great instructor! Also very enthusiastic!
I am happy to find your video on hitting long irons it helped me immensely
Love your sense of humor in explaining this stuff...it helps that your are direct and fun to watch. Great tips and I'm going to keep watching for more. I have watched a lot of instructors and you are in the top three of the ones I follow.
Thanks for the video I've been working hard on my swing so I'll be putting these little nuggets in next time I'm at the range
Mr. Fisher you waste no time.
You're direct clear to the point without anything extra, good script. Repeating (really getting me to remember) each piece of a step, repeat the whole step then from the beginning to the end of the step, proceed to the next step.
Really paving the memory.
This was fantastic....one of the best lessons ever...
Great tips. You answered a lot of my unasked questions. Brilliant
This video helped me BIG TIME!!!!! 3,4 and 5 irons are money now!!!! Thanks Mr.SG
Wow I agree 1000% with GOAT at golf you speak clearly and hitting the ball so we can see makes it so much easierto understand thanks for those tips Darren C
I did really well with my 4 iron today at the driving range! You're absolutely the best golf instructor hands down!
Your 2 tips (put your right shoulder back and down + move your hands one ball forward) were all I needed to clear up my long iron problems. When I went to the range on Sunday, I hit my long irons better than I have in YEARS!! Thanks!!!

Glad to help out. All the best
Your videos have gotten much better.
Thank you sir. Only had trouble with the 3-4 irons and now the rest is history. Thank you once again..
Bazinga! First, your teaching method of teach and do (immediate) with each step is perfect. It's how I learn! So, my set up takes a bit longer (mental check list) and pisses off my buds, but who cares...I am finally hitting my irons PURE!
Dude. Best video I’ve seen on this. Thank you so much.
You are an amazing teacher. Your lessons have made positive difference to my game . I am low single figure golfer.
You’re the best man. My game is the way it is bc of you.
Gonna give these tips a try tomorrow. Been struggling with my long irons lately.
Man you saved my long iron game. Thanks a million. Your the best.
I still watch this video before every game. Helps me so much 👍
Awesome. Thanks! I went to the range and started hitting my long irons clean. Helped with fairway woods also. Two thumbs up.
Spot on brother! Fantastic instruction! Great presentation style and overall A+ video.
i love people that love something this much
Just started playing golf again after a 15 year hiatus.
I was hitting my irons pretty sweet...most of the time.
still one of the best instructional videos; one year later - Feb 2020 !!
