Little known fun fact: in between episodes 57 and 58, Catzi took up chain smoking and even managed to break the record for most packs smoked in a day! Her voice was never the same...
I’m sure there were some troubles among the actress and the director, but… couldn’t they get anyone who sounded even vaguely similar to Alice Poon?

The voice director mentioned in the book he wrote he said something "offensive" to an Asian actress and she left the studio crying. It's probably Alice.
@@kevinbueno6541 Yikes. There are so few Asian voice actresses in North America already, that type of workplace behavior doesn't help. I hope he apologized, though looking up Alice's profile she hasn't really worked a lot since.

I think Eden is my favorite. Alice is a close second for sure.
I think out of the 3 English voices Alice Poon really impressed me the most although the one I remember hearing was Mary Long and as for Eden Reigel like her brother Sam Reigel she's a good voice actress and shes really cute but she sounds to young for Catsy/Koan even though I find her voice adorable

I love Eden Riegal's Koan voice. She's one of the Highlights of the Viz Media dub for me.

I never understood why they hired different voices that aren’t even remotely close to the previous one. Especially when the first DiC voice was perfectly fine and actually fit the character.
Alice Poon sand Eden Riegel are tied. Just wish Alice was kept for all the eps for Koan
Always, always Alice Poon. To this day I hate that she didn't stick around. She gave Koan a sassy and mature color--yet still sounding youthful. Great for serving the girls (soldiers) with shade.
I vote for Eden Rigel on behalf of her voice of Koan. Because her voice fits perfectly, just like a model who voice any cartoon female character. Besides, what is Koan?!👍🏿😀👱🏿♂️😮🤔👩🏻🧡😍
Eden's voice was the best I think. She pulled off Koan's sultry and cuter sides well, and her acting was great.
sorakairi1993 VIZ media always has the best voices compared to DIC at least. Viz media hired a sailor moon that actually sounds like a kid and their Luna is much less posh😂

@@leianoel8412 I think the only points I disagree on are the voices for Sammy/Shingo and Melvin/Umino. I thought DiC's voices for them suited them much better... Viz's Shingo and Umino sounded way too old for their characters.
But otherwise, I loved Viz's casting choices.
@@mahmamia5100 DiC had the best voice acting hands down. The Viz dub is garbage, it's literally unwatchable because of how bad it is. Every character sounds better in the DiC dub.
You could literally replace Mary Long’s interpretation with Marge Simpson and no one would know the difference.

I really liked Alice Poon's voice for Koan/ Catzi. I just felt it fit more for her being the youngest while I felt Mary Long voice was more mature and raspy.

Mary Long can immitate many voices and dialects. Katsy has a sultry voice with an evil growl that fits her feline based character, and with her purplish and black tutu she is like a Panther; and then she has a sweet voice as Molly with her New York based accent. Like,"Hay u gooys!!!!!". She also played many background voices. Plus she was also cute little Miharu the best swordswoman in Japan in the Pegasus series Super S.
Mary Long sounds too old and over the top,She was a huge miscast as Naru as well.
Alice's voice was ok I think with better direction should be good

How did I not realize that Catzi was voiced by two different women in the DiC dub? Alice was definitely a better fit, but the change from her voice to Mary Long's is hilarious, and Mary's voice is just so comically inappropriate that I ironically love it.
But Eden just nailed it. I looooooved her take on Koan.
I'm Japanese. I love Sailor Moon. I like original and Viz media ver the most.Eden Riegel's voice is really nice.

Alice Poon and Eden Riegel > Mary Long. They both did the character and their Japanese counterpart from the original anime justice.
In my opinion, both Japanese voices actress were excellent❤. About DIC dub I prefer when Alice dubbed her first, then when Mary dubbed her, her voice didn't fit her, it sounded like she smoke 2 packs or more of cigarettes...😓 And Edel is a excellent voice actress too❤
Eden Rigel?? Soap Opera start turned anime voice actress since when? She does a good job though. I had actually forgotten that Coan had 2 diff voices in the DiC dub. All voices good in my book
There are lots of voice actors in Anime that actually act in films and shows Johnny Yong Bosch,Beau Billinslea,Todd Haberkorn,Dameon Clarke,Chuck Huber,Lindsay Sidel,Kirby Morrow ETC
+James M yup. johnny especially he was the 2nd black power ranger in the original series so its cool seeing him in stuff

Alice was my favorite voice for Catsy! I was sad she was only in 3 episodes. Mary's voice was fine but I prefer Alice.

Alice is perfect as koan/catsy in my opinion I really enjoyed her voice acting but since Mary took over Alice's voice I got a bit disappointed because Alice is the best but Mary is ok she's just sounds rough and not like koan/catsy in English dub. I am really happy of Alice one and the Japanese version is Really good

Both Japanese voice actresses for koan/catsy in sailor moon and sailor moon crystal really did a great job as her. in the dic dub version of sailor moon,alice poon's voice for koan/catsy was ok, Mary long's voice for her was really terrible,sorry but she sounded way too old when she's supposed to be the youngest of the four sisters. Mary long was great as molly/naru,but her voice didn't fit catsy at all. The dic dub script was sometimes bad, but at the same time really funny too and I actually liked the 90's dub version. I really liked eden riegel's voice for her in the viz dub version of sailor moon too. She was great as koan/catsy and sounded younger too.
Alice was pretty good but had a lackluster script to work with.
No complaints regarding Wakana and Satsuki, they did great for their respective versions of Koan. Mary Long is easily my least favourite of this compare, her voice just didn't suit Koan at all - at times she sounded like a boy and other times she sounded like a middle-aged smoker like some people here have said. Alice Poon was better - her voice had a nice mix of youth and maturity which fit Koan very well - although I think Eden delivered the best performance.
Claudia is the best of all in my opinion
Ok surely even the DiC dub apologists can agree that Mary as Koan/Catzi was a major misfire? Alice was so much better.
Alice Poon was always my favorite voice for Katsy. It's a shame she was only the character for 3 episodes. Anyone know why they changed actresses? I love Mary Long as Molly, but she's not my favorite in this role.

Interestingly, though I can’t remember the source, but they supposedly made Koan the oldest sister in the DIC dub, which was a very odd change and only seems to justify the voice Mary Long ended up giving her.

Mary Long is a bad Kōan. I like the the DiC dub before her. Eden Riegel is great choice, but something about her sounds too young.

Mary Long actually does a good performance...just the voice does not fit Koan/Catzi at all. Especially after Alice Poon did such a good drop. I remember feeling the clash of her voice completely changing watching it for the first time. MoonBunny24 was right, how many cigarettes did Catzi smoke to have that much of a drastic change?
Eden Riegel did a great job to! Her tone is a bit higher than Devola in Nier and it fits Koan pretty well.

I like Mary Long as Catsy. I like the rough edge in her voice. I somewhat like Alice Poon as Catsy (she sounds a bit bland but she's the second best imo). Claudia is meh...she makes Catsy sound too cutesy. She sounds like she should be on the Winx Club.

Is it just me, or do most of the voices in the new dub all sound the same? Generic female voice number 13 *drum roll* Eden Riegel~ I'm not big on the 'catsy' voice because of how harsh and old it is, but I can respect the fact that atleast it had personality and was distinguishable. I seriously have to watch the show with so much attention in the VIZ dub, I turn away for even a moment I sometimes I can't even tell who the hell is saying what anymore.

Viz dub is trash. All the voice actors sound like armatures. DiC dub sounds way better, even if it isnt as accurate to original work.
