I can’t agree more, the manga has funny scenes but not all the time, do they want this franchise to turn into a comedy just because they watch the 90s first? The manga has never been targeted towards children in the first place, that’s why most of the time it is serious and not funny. Crystal has been following the manga closely when some people who watched the 90s only want the series to get turned into a comedy when it clearly isn’t
I agree. I mean, sure, funny cartoony faces are ok but we don't need them in every flipping scene! I once watch a video about character design and well what the video said isn't an objective fact, I agree: it said "sometimes you need am artstyle that fits with the story, like a mature story having a more detailed and serious style and vice-versa..."
Agreed plus crystal is faithful to the manga. The 90s anime SCREWED the story characters like Mamo, Chibiusa Rei were ruined. Even Mamo and Usako's love was completely ruined.

I agree too!!! I remember I hated Mamoru... He was extremely mean to usako in the 90's version, then I grew up and read the manga and was... WTH o.O why did they do this to mamoru! also I prefer this elegant artstyle. I was happy with the new transformation and then people complained about the use of CG and they stopped using it... these people only complain

I'm also a big fan of this version of the Imperium Silver Crystal! It looks like it could be real, without being too cheesy (My opinion, though)

+Luis Morales Finally someone who isn't bagging on this series. I love Sailor moon, the manga, the 90's, and crystal. (Most of the people complaining about the new sailor moon are American's tbh.) It's shorter because that's how it was originally intended to be. It wasn't meant to have "monster of the week" and be full of fillers. Naoko didn't originally WANT the fillers, but they added them anyway. This time, Naoko has a big say in how things are done. This art is closer to Naoko's original manga, plus it features a lot of things in the manga that the 90's series didn't AKA Mamoru being a high school student, Usagi's second tiara, etc. Lastly, they kept all the original voice actors for this anime. Sure it isn't perfect, but neither was the 90's version. Sure the animation messes up sometimes, but really? Every anime will have a mess up in animation. Honestly, this is closer to the manga than the 90's version. I wish people would stop comparing the two series so heavily >_

+ss s revo's composition is good, but marty does his own thing and everyone pretty much lets him do it since he is a true musician with skill, feeling and passion for music.
+Luis Morales I think you're wrong. The plot is true to the manga but the characters aren't. If a person were to watch SMC for a true adaptation of the manga that's not what they would get. They would get a basic summary of the plot but they would not get to understand the different layers of each character. The only characters we really see shine are sailor moon and endymion. it's rare to see the other sailor soliders talk to express their personalities; that's not how Naoko wrote the manga. She wrote the manga with characters who are significant in their own way and interact with sailor moon. She didn't write two dimensional characters who always stayed on the sidelines, but that's what we got. You probably haven't read the manga if you this the first two seasons of SMC aren't garbage.
I'd like to point out that sailor jupiter and venus expressing their love for Uranus in the third season really stuck out to me because the sailors interacting and showing their character isn't something that we saw in the first two seasons of SMC.
Why is everyone complaining about the CGI? Honestly it looks fucking amazing to me.

AnimeGirl1723 I freakin love this version. Its really good imo. I might even like it more than the old one, but I still love the old one ^w^
I only began looking at their transformations and the music today. The problem is people's tendency to look at things through nostagia filters. Genwunner behavior can translate across many different platforms and fandoms if people are not careful and not inclined to just enjoy things for what they are, in their own right.
That said...the music is epic. I love it and no arguing. It's just wonderful.
Animation and transformation sequences....overall, beautiful, glittery, flashy blingy effect. My one complaint has nothing to do with nostalgia. It has to do with the skinny, rubbery feel of their arms and legs as they transform. It gives them the effect of Noodle People and something I don't like. It's Sailor Moon, Sailor Jupiter and to a less extent, Sailor Mercury. Sailor Mars and from what I've seen in the previews, Sailor Venus, they got it right. Those transformations are faultless as far as I'm concerned.
Non-transformation character animation styles....again, few complaints, and a certain appreciation overall for staying truer to the original manga material. That said, I noted to myself how sharp Sailor Jupiter's features are here-but that is not a complaint. She looks fine. It's Sailor Mars, pre-transformation, that I don't like. Maybe it's just that all I've seen of her so far outside of her transformed is the lead-up immediately to it in one video, but her appearance almost repelled me. Once again, though, her transformation....the one inner Senshi so far where every bit of transformation animation fell completely into place, in my eyes. In this video, the shots of Sailor Mars are excellent through and through.
The music during their transformations is, again, faultless.

true fans don't judge based on old and new, they love all of it no matter what!
True fans look at something through a clear lens and are NOT OBLIGED in any way to absolutely love every moment. Constructive criticism helps; not hinders. No. What a true fan does is be able to look at every episode and every moment honestly. Am I still obliged to love every moment if Usagi turned into God Mode Mary Sue? Hardly. That'd turn me off faster than my trying to read Twilight.
Point is, the most brilliant authors, the most imaginative artists, the most innovative film producers...they still toss the occasional turkey. The true fan might not like those turkeys, but generally, it will not dampen their love for the overall package. And more importantly to me, a person who loves their work will realize when they slip up. They learn from it. Have you seen the last couple of episodes of this series to date? Brilliant. Just brilliant. My list of complaints concerning those episodes is darned near zero.
Fans who blindingly, obsessively gush, all starry-eyed, are NOT doing the creators any favors. That doesn't help them smooth out the rough corners. There is never need to be cruel to any creator regarding their creation. But to blindly tell them to their face all the time that is all just peachy when it isn't, when they are looking for such input, is just making it all worse.
A true fan and a truly helpful critic will be clear to the creator that they sense a complete gem in the making. The purpose of helpful, constructive criticism is to MAKE THAT GEM SHINE. That is exactly what is happening here, because each episode is becoming better and better than the last, and I cannot wait for more.

Starry-eyed blathering does nothing to help a creator. That is the case with this series. A true fan's honesty helps smooth the roughness out of any great work. And every episode of this series gets better and better, making this a case in point.
And PS...my original comment about the animation quality had NOTHING to do at all with the old series. People's comparing this to the old one unfavorably was the reason for my 'genwunner' comment. I meant it is not fair to compare.

As much as I want all reunion. But most voice actors when they reach 40+ their voices won't be the same anymore. Unless you change your role to be middle age woman. It's the truth that sometime hard to accept.
Sometime foreigner especially westerner. need to know about Japanese industry more. It's Japan, I'm sure they want reunion but they must have a good reason to change since anime industry is tough and the culture wall is high.

I started watching this series in 2022. I know I am boy and that mostly girls watch this, but for some reason I can't stop thinking about this anime series. This theme song alone is making me feel confidence and is giving me strength to fight the depression I have been experiencing for 4-5 years straight. I only watched the first season of crystal in the span of two days and I already feel like I changed as a person somehow. The more I listen to this very song the more I feel like I can get out of the nightmare that is my depression. Currently while writing this comment as of July 24th of 2022 I am literally in tears because I could've been watching this kind of anime the whole time I was in depression. I was distancing myself from shows like this out of fear I would be made fun of and looked down upon. I am thankful such a show genre exists and can see that boys can enjoy something like this and be touched by emotions buried deep inside.

I love how people are complainting a couple of mistakes in the animation and because of that it sucks. If animation is a indicator of quality, then take a look at Puella Magi Madoka Magica or Precure which both have off modelness problem quite frequently. Does that make them bad? No.
Yes, I understand the criticism towards the CGI in the transformation. The models are OK. Not terrible. I think that they should went with 2d animation too. I know Toei can do better (Just take a look at Happiness Charge ED)
As a person who hasn't watched the old anime, I can judge that Sailor Moon Crystal (and the manga it's self) were over hyped and that the old anime's fans have a nostalgia filter. Sailor Moon Crystal is not going to be perfect, the old anime is not perfect, the manga is not perfect.
Sailor Moon Crystal probably has an OK budget that they're saving for later to use on. They're still introducing the characters.
And before you guys flame me to death, Sailor Moon Crystal does have a problem with the art style and how it's not exaggerated or silly enough when the manga did. Just because a couple of shots are offmodel is nothing to get upset about. The old anime has meh animation from what I've seen so far and I heard it can sometimes get offmodel too. The old animation backgrounds were undetailed and quickly done. Don't get me started on how long the transformation sometimes went.
Not to mention the animators are only given about two weeks to animate new episodes, and the viewers are privileged with being able to watch it FOR FREE. NO DINERO.
