I love Aleppo Soap and I have like 200 bars that I made in December 2021. I call it the top of the line and if I need to choose one soap to use for the rest of my life is that one. I keep making it in honor of my late friend that she had chemotherapy and she was always saying how her skin got better with this soap.( Not making any medical claims here though). The laurel oil is expensive but I will try to keep making it.
Aleppo soap is wonderful. I visited Aleppo - and the rest of Syria of course - more than 20 years ago and I brought back some soaps from Aleppo. The other day I found a bar that I had not used. It is now very dark brown and I cut it in half to see the inside. The middle is a beautiful shade of bright green. The soap does not smell of anything and certainly doesn't smell rancid!
Luscious consistency. The finished product looks absolutely stunning, Ruth! And love the colour of Olga - a favourite 😊. I’m with you on longer cure times. It makes such a difference in many ways yet most especially longevity of usage.
I hadn't made soap since I was kid! I'm old. We were taught young how to render tallow and lard! Two soaps in, I made Aleppo! DOS! Lol! I'm paying attention now! 😂
Long cure advocate here also. I read a great explanation long ago about the crystalline structure of soap and how the longer cure allows that to be more organized, thus making the soap milder and longer lasting. What's the rush? My customers often compliment me on how long lasting my bars are. That's good enough reason for me 🤗 If I can find the link I'll post it here for you. I am inspired, I'll go home and make this recipe later on today!
I like long cure as well. I have some I have made more than 5 years ago. They lather great and last so much longer. I'm glad you used Morouge. Ever since you have used the Juicy Pomegranate, I gave it a try and fell in love. I never used fragrances as they triggered headaches. For some reason, Morouge don't. I have only been using their fragrances and they are a great hit with my buyers. Bonus as they are Canadian. I have purchase Northern Woods, which I will be using shortly for my fall / winter line. I will have to consider Aleppo soap. My first soap ever made was 100% Olive oil and after a year of waiting for the cure. I have to say, it was the most gentle, moisturizing soap to my skin. Great video as always!
Hi Ellen. Thank you for sharing a twist on traditional Aleppo soap. The beginning of April 2023 I made my first batch of Aleppo (type) soap using the traditional recipe and 30% Laurel Berry oil. I'm going to let mine cure for 1 year. As long as I have it at the back of my curing racks, I forget about and don't get too ansy about wanting to try even a sample piece. 🤭 I should probably get another batch going soon. I appreciate you showing how to cut the cost on these but still have a wonderful end product. 😊
I agree with you the longer the soaps sit the harder they are. I like mine to sit 6 months -1year! I had so much soap made that it took me 2 yrs to go through it and now I’m making more so it has time to get nice and hard. I like mine to last as long as they can 😁😉
Ruth..you are so right. The simplicity of the soap makes it so pretty! I would love to try these but Laurel berry is so expensive to get here in Canada. What extravagant but so worth it bars. :) I am sure they will be just lovely. As always..well done! Cheers ~ Michele
I made this soap yesterday, & it is absolutely beautiful! The smell is intoxicating! It gelled completely. I must focus on patience now to let it cure for 6 months. 😃
🤗love this soap! The smell is indescribable but so delicious! I made some a year ago, and will be selling it at a big fall show I will be doing in September. Can’t wait to see how it sells!
aleppo soap is very hard to find in where i live and i've been wanting to try them for awhile, hope i will find someone that sells them one day in here. great soap as usual! 💓
I took advantage of Jen's sale and I am going to try your Inspired recipe, as I have 2 bottles, also. It actually looks more creamier than the regular Aleppo Soap recipe. Thanks for sharing. Cheers & Blessings👍🤗
I know your soaps are wonderful just by watching you make 'em. I wish to try one of your soaps in the future. Sending you love all the way from the Philippines!😘😘😘
It’s very expensive but worth it. I made mine with 60%olive/40%Laurel fruit oil also from bescented. She has the best price out there. Let it cured for an entire year and that was too much for me. Beautiful as always Ellen
@@EllenRuthSoap we can’t say anything, but there are many studies proven the effectiveness and the healing properties of the Aleppo soap from hair to dandruff, psoriasis, eczema and so on and on
Hi Ellen, I am new to soap making & I am definitely making this soap, but I have a few questions: 1- Which brand of Aloe Vera Juice & Silk Fibers? 2- How much Silk Fibers in this recipe? 3- How much Northern Woods fragrance from Morouge from Canada. would like to know exactly the products and amounts you used because there are too many brands to choose from, and I am nervous to buy products that could decrease the quality of the soap. Thank you for educating me, you do not know how much I appreciate your videos. Stay safe.
Here is a link for the brand of Aloe juice I use, but I purchase at walmart as it's much cheaper there: amzn.to/45LCIDM As far as silk, I like to use either unbleached Tussah, or mulberry silk fibers. And I just use a cotton ball size pinch for a big batch. Morouge CA has all the usage rates for their F.O.'s
Sounds amazing! I can almost smell it from here 🤗 It came together so quickly! I look forward to making this one. Also, did you add reg sugar? And how much sodium lactate, approx? I believe I have some silk powder, would that suffice, rather than the fibers? Maybe 1 teaspoon? Absolutely love your tutorials…. Simply the bestest! 💝Thank You!
I purchased some Laurelberry oil from Bescented and she does have the best price! I get the same olive oil from Sam's club too lol, you can't go wrong there and price is the best you'll get. I'm going to try your recipe because I love lather too lol, so going to make it soon so it can cure by next year 😅, thanks Ellen 😊.
Yes, that Laurel Berry Oil is certainly expensive. It’s a soap I had always valued due to its long history, and tradition. Your bars look lovely in the intro - haven’t seen the video yet. I do think it’s a shame that you chose to include a ‘fragrance Oil’ though but À chacun son goût 😊
I just love the look of this bar and might invest in making it for myself and family and don’t want to mess up. If I could ask a question, what super fat do you use for making an Allepo style soap? Is it the usual 5% or does it do better with a higher percentage? TIA
Hi can you show how to set the wire for the slab cutter i have one and it doesn't come with instructions as to how to set the wire to cut the slab ,hope you read this message, thank you for sharing your knowledge
Hi Ellen, I always look forward to your videos! Can you share the type or brand of aloe vera juice you use? I have found that many brands have several other ingredients added and I am worried it will affect the outcome. Have you ever used powdered aloe Vera instead? Thanks so much for your lovely videos!
Ellen can you tell me the dimensions of your stamp. I think I recall it is a rubber stamp. I have just contacted Gabor as I want to get one. Thanks Ellen
Such a beautiful soap, I love watching your videos. I really liked the "natural" stamp you used but the link didn't work, I tried finding something similar on amazon but didn't see anything. If you have a moment, do you mind updating the link?
Hi Ruth, thank you for such a beautiful recipe of your variant Aleppo soap. I am inspired to make it. Since it requires a long maturing time the addition of other oils to laurel and olive, would that not affect the longevity as they have a shorter shelf life, or it would not matter.
Thanks will make it this weekend. I am planning to use alovera gel from my plants that I have already frozen and also use Ylang Ylang, Egyptian geranium and lavender essential oils. Have a feeling that all this will quicken the trace.
Hi Ruth just cut my Allepo variant inspired by you. Used 40% laurel and olive each and 15% coconut and 5 %castor. Used frozen aloe from garden and 3 colours and managed to do a swirl. Wish I could send you some pictures. Used a combination of ylang ylang, patchouli and lemon grass. I am an amateur only making for family and friends. Thank you so much for inspiring us and showing such lovely recipes. Next will try your body butter recipe. Keep putting out those lovely videos ❤
Wow... I never saw lauryl berry oil in anything I have before (what does lauryl fruit smell like?). I love oils. I have friends from Syria so this would be awesome to share with them or make for them over the holidays.
The soap is beautiful Ellen. Can you tell me when you were last able to get olive and coconut oil at Sam's Club? They haven't had either at mine for several months.
Can I half this recipe w/o messing it up? I purchased one bottle of Laurel Berry oil so I need to half the batch. Is there anything different to do w/the lye/water to half it?
I'm not sure? What temp do you combine your oils & lye solution? Is there a common number? I'm self taught for the most part, watched some videos, Bramble Berry, You, Ophelia, I've tried covering not covering? I've probably made a couple dozen batches @ different combined temps. I write down recipes maybe I need to do that w/temps?

First pressed or virgin oils make the best soap. True castile soap is made from only EVOO. Pure olive oil is highly processed.
Talking about expensive! I made one with oranges, orange juice, sugar and other things....it is expensive
But so worth it 😉💕
