    HOW TO HANDLE LYE
    Lye is caustic and has to be handled carefully. Fear of lye is common among beginners in soapmaking. After you make your first batch of soap, you will realize that working with lye isn't at all scary.
    When working with lye, always wear gloves and protective goggles. The lye water solution, and raw soap batter is caustic and can burn you. Rubber gloves and protective eye goggles are a necessity.
    Goggles will protect your eyes from splatters during mixing of the soap.
    Always pour Sodium Hydroxide into water, Never the other way around.
    Don't use aluminum pots and utensils.

    I've tried this one time, I only used a commercial soap which I melted then added the aloe gel. It actually worked out.

    O wow! Regarding my soap that did not harden, I thought that perhaps it was not done mixing and used my stick blender for a couple of seconds.... this did the trick.
    I will use this wonderful recipe again and again. Smells great with a little geranium essential oil.

    I tried my aloe vera soap making yesterday and it came out just fine. Seeing it this morning i was so happy. Thank you for your tutorial.
    The issue is that I'm not sure of the saponification value of PKO, but i used 0.155 to calculate it.
    Please, what is the actual saponification value of PKO? Thanks.

    Please, I have a question.
    1.....can I add my NAOH into the aleo vera without freezing it.
    2.....If I'm going to be using like 2 different oils, how do I go about the saponification? Thank you sir.

    • @TheAloeVeraGarden
      @TheAloeVeraGarden  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you can add NAOH without freezing the Aloe vera. If you use two or more different kinds of oils, find the saponification value of each oil. Example, For a 1 kilogram of oil, you want to use 500g of coconut oil, 300g of Olive, oil and 200g of Sunflower oil. Find the saponification value of each of the oils and then multiply it by the amount of each oil. 500g coconut oil x 0.183 = 91.5g NaOH; 300g Olive oil x 0.135 = 40.5g NaOH; and 200g Sunflower oil x 0.136 = 27.2g NaOH. Lastly, add all the NaOH which are 91.5+40.5+27.2=159.2g of NaOH.

    • @TheAloeVeraGarden
      @TheAloeVeraGarden  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You cannot make a soap without sodium hydroxide. If you want to skip it, use a soap base. Melt the soap base and add Aloe vera gel. The only issue with it is that you cannot add too much aloe vera because it will make your soap soft like dough.

      If you use essential oil, check first the dermal limits of your essential oil to prevent skin irritation. If you are using fragrance oil, you can use 1% to 3% depending on how strong you want the scent on your soap.

    My soap is still soft. Is the coconut oil measurement of 400g correct? If so I recon that the problem lies with my caustic soda.

    • @TheAloeVeraGarden
      @TheAloeVeraGarden  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, the saponification value of coconut oil RBD is 0.183 multiply it with 400g of coconut oil, you'll get a result of 73g, which will be your caustic soda.
