It’s rather disturbing to see what Ellie became after Joel’s death, seeing her in the first game as a shy, yet rebellious young teenager. Then in the second game as a murderous, careless terminator that seems at times she doesn’t give a fuck or feel pain. Joel’s lyrics greatly describe her situation, “If I ever were to lose you, I’d surely lose myself.” Which implies that if one were to pass, the other would lose their mind.
This is why the ending SPOILER (ellie letting abby go) works so well. As ellie is trying to drown abby she sees joel playing a guitar and remembers the scene where she decides to try to forgive him. Before that moment all of the concurrent ptsd’s included joel’s beaten up death scene. Almost haunting her. This is why i love the ending. So many people missed the whole point of it all.

Bahdussy76 People do not hate the game simply because of Joel’s death. It’s hated because the storyline is weak and lazy compared to the first. They also edited scenes in the trailer to make things look one way when it was actually the opposite.
Kinda sad to think that in the 1st game, Ellie says that she's afraid of ending up alone, which is what ends up happening in the ending of the 2nd game, she loses pretty much everything she had and ends up alone..
Someone pointed out that before Ellie left to after Abby, she didn't wear Dina's luck bracelet. And when she returns it is zoomed in on her wrist wearing it. Either Ellie returns to the farmhouse months after the Abby ordeal with Dina's forgiveness and finally lets Joel go, or this is Ellie before she goes to Jackson ,if she goes at all. Either way, hope to see more soon! Need to see more of Dina!

I think that would be a bit of a copout. Ellie deserved to separate from Dina for what she did, while I would like a 3rd game, I don’t want them to ruin this game’s emotional ending. It would be like if Joel stole Ellie from the fireflies at the end of tlou1, but then changed his mind and decided to give her back.
@@andyboo23[spoilers] thank you. people were so pissed when Ellie let Abby go. they said it was dumb she decided to "Do ThE RiGhT ThInG". when in reality she was just tired, of everything. done, broken. she couldn't bring herself to killing Abby because she no longer thaught it held any meaning. The Abby part immerses you so much that in that theatre you really want to hurt Ellie. but somewhere during the California section, the game makes you realize both of them need to either die or live. Both were heroes and suffered great losses in their own narratives, and making you actually perform most actions is what makes the story something that can only properly be told in video game form.
@@madrid_seu and I think ( just my guess) the lesson of this game is that you can't take back your loved ones even if you take revenge, if you make a one mistake, it leads you to being obssessed at revenge that you didn't even care at others, I think that's what it shows or implies Ellie at the game, I mean, she killed all of Abby's friends but in exchange? Her friends get killed too (except Dina and Tommy) so what's the point on killing her now? All of them left her, that's why if you get obssessed at taking revenge and never care at others, you will be alone again

This game is literally a playable movie and it’s not even that bad it’s really good, people simply hating cause it didn’t go the way they wanted but if you just LISTEN nd pay attention to the characters expressions it makes a lot more sense, you also need to be able to have the ability to view things from others perspectives cause the game HEAVILY resides on the points of views of alll the characters.
However, they are responsible for some horrendous marketing. In the promotional material of the game, they either mentionned little of Abby or not at all. Also, as much as I love the game, that part where Joel says « You think I'd let you do this on your own ? » in the release date trailer was just awfully misleading and embarrassing, because it heavily implied that Joel will play an important part in the game. I wanted it to be a masterpiece, but for now, it's just a really good game.
Ghassane Jabri I agree it was misleading, but I feel some of that was intentional. His brutal death was supposed to be a huge shock. Even though it may have been spoiled for some, I believe that was their intention. Also, what would be the point of showing Abby, if you have no context? The context is that she killed Joel, which is what they were trying to keep secret.

If they wanted to keep Abby's involvement in the game a secret, then it's totally fine, but it would've been much less obnoxious if the promotional material of the game hasn't been all about the supposedly "upcoming story of Joel and Ellie". Because the misleading isn't only in the release date trailer, there is even more misleading statements in the 2017 PSX conference, where Neil Druckmann himself implies that you'll be able to play as Joel and Ellie. But then again, this type of misleading is frequent inside of the gaming industry, I just didn't expect Naughty Dog to do it.

Apparently Naughty Dog actually did this with TLOU1 as well, they always denied that you'd get to play as Ellie because they wanted it to do be a surprise. I think the thing that annoyed me the most was how they swapped out characters in gameplay footage (Dina missing in some, Jessie replaced with Joel, etc). And also on the Play Station Store you can buy the profile pictures of the characters and Abby is called "mysterious woman" like why is that necessary? Whether you know her name or not doesn't tell you who she is - she wasn't in the first game! And another one you can buy is Emily, the leader of the Seraphites, who died in her first scene - she's not even an important character?

Same here. First hated Abby, but when I got to know her background I started to emphasize with her, which made everything super confusing. Felt bad with what I did playing Ellie's character, but at the same time I didn't because I still felt Ellie's rage and broken heart. But it's just not fair.. for either parties. Idk man. Confusing feelings. Questioning ethics after this game.
The hate this game received was unjust. This game is incredible. Some people just can’t comprehend what it would be like in this game world. Joel is a man and not invincible. Just because you love a character doesn’t mean they can’t die.

It's not that he died. It's the way he died, and the fact that we had to play with the character that tortured and killed him. However I still think this game is a masterpiece.

it's ridiculous how much hate this game gets- the heartbreak of it is what makes the story. and the way ellie projects her own guilt and self hatred on abby is such a good narrative. it takes the whole story for ellie to realize that killing abby will not bring joel back, nor make her feel any better. the emotional aspect of this game is phenomenal.

This game ripped my heart to pieces. The first game was a pivotal experience in my life, I can so vividly remember how it made me feel, how it made me cry, laugh, scream. And the second game completely exceeded my expectations. By the end of it I couldn’t stop crying, I deeply understand and love both characters and was audibly yelling at the screen in the Abby vs Ellie combat scenes. And by the end of the game I truly couldn’t pick a side, I love Ellie and Joel but now I love Abby and Lev as well and even now the brutal visual of Joel dead truly affected me. A beautiful game. A truly beautiful game. I can’t wait to see the future of the game.

This game wasn’t what I expected. I loved the graphics, the characters, and gameplay. This game was great overall. I was on the edge of my seat at all times. The ending wasn’t the greatest, but I’m really hoping a third one comes out for further explanation, but great work on this game.

Yeah. The trailers are meant to deceive the players; make us believe something happens when in reality, it doesn't. I believe some of the Uncharted series' trailers did the same thing.
mmhmm.. until i played the game i thought Dina was the one that was gonna die, i figured joel would eventually die in this game but ... omg. i think i was in disbelief a good 2hrs after that joel scene lol. i was legit talking about how we didnt actually see his dead body and that grave could just be empty and hes in hiding recovering, mainly because i saw that trailer when he tells ellie "you think id let you do this on your own" or whatever. man this game.... destroyed me. still love it though, even though the pacing was sometimes... really... really slow...
Because they’d lose sales. They marketed this game as playing Ellie... but for nearly half of the game you play as this unknown character who literally killed the previous main character. I went into the game w/o any spoilers and I was really frustrated when they made me play as Abby for so long
My sister cried for good ten minutes when joel died. She played the last of us one and i didnt so i cannot relate to her crying but i believe that joel shouldn’t die. They make it seems like Ellie is an adult now so they done using joel on the last of us one and killed him on the last of us 2 Sorry but not buying the game on ps5 lol
I really felt like i was Ellie when i played as abby and was trying to kill Ellie. That was so weird just like i was trying to kill myself it felt so surreal and, I don’t think any other game will make me feel so many feelings at the same time. Absolutely amazing. And at the beginning i was very angry at abby cuz you know she fucking killed Joel but, when i got to play as abby I started to feel for her. And I understand why she killed Joel. If you look at her point of view you would probably do the same and react the same way. But that does not change the fact that she killed Joel and still pretty mad at her for that. And also I absolutely love this game it felt so real playing it and the story is so beautiful. At the end when Ellie really couldn’t kill abby because she thought of Joel and that he wouldn’t wanted her to do that is so fucking sad she realized that she had become a cold, ego, monster, she just left dina and their cute little potato and for what? To come home realizing both of them are gone, she had nobody. Her life was truly fucked up and traumatizing poor Ellie:(
Honestly when that part came on I let Ellie beat my ass (as abby) 😂 until eventually if I wanted to finish I had to sadly attack ellie. It felt so wrong to do that to her 💔 I'm still trying to get around to feeling for abby. But right now it's not gonna happen lol

They forced us to play the character that killed our favourite character just to spread some message? From a game logic it just doesn't make any sense to force people to play a character they hate for 10 freaking hrs. This game took 7 years to make and this is what we get? 30 fps, tons of bug, and a garbage story.

Also the graphics and animations are incredible. It makes you look a bit silly when you start to say the whole thing is bad when you're just salty that Joel died
the amount of thought put into this game never ceases to amaze me oh my god. them having the player make choices that they then have to live with and making different almost like easter eggs that some players will never see if they only play the game once is so cool. the fact that you can play the game five times and have different things happen or notice different things on each playthrough is what makes this one of my favorite games
It was the most amazing and magical experience that I've ever felt. I felt everything, I lost something with Ellie on her persue for revange, and in the end I felt the anger, the guilty, and the powerless because I hate Abby, but I couldn't kill her too. Now, I'm so emotionally exhausted that I can't play again. Will take a while, maybe long, to this empty and sorrow disappear enough and than maybe I can play Joel's song for Ellie now that she can't do it anymore.
In most instances in games, movies, or shows it’s a cheap crowd pleaser, but this game did those characters and how they affect those around them really well. They’re more than just what they identify as and that’s what makes them powerful characters. So yes amazing.
Coming from somebody who genuinely enjoyed this game, I couldn't help but laugh at when Druckmann said 'If a group has survived this long they must be dangerous. You have to be dangerous if you want to survive, otherwise you will end up as someones victim.' Try telling that to and applying that mentality to Tommy before he spouted out his own name and Joel's to a group of random ass strangers. Shit was dumb

20 years of gaming, playing the last of us is first time I have ever got so emotional with the storyline. I just felt those fictional characters in the game are real humans. Incredible game
So do I. But it seems that even today, the majority of the media culture preferred the first one. Personally, I don’t really have preference between the two games.
*SPOILERS IN THIS COMMENT* i really enjoyed the game, and i loved the ending, i get why people wanted the revenge but it was a big risk that for me payed off. we got to experience the tiring nature physically and mentally of constantly feeling the need to brutally kill people, and that last fight was exausting. ellie had been fighting for so long, hunting abby down for so long, they'd had their brutal encounters, but for me the fact that she chose to let her go was realistic. for me, she realises even with all the violence and this long exausting fight with abby, isn't going to bring joel back. i think for ellie, it's a point of realisation, that she needs to let go of the violence. the violence has never brought much good, just hate and anger, it won't bring joel back, she'll still have to live with the fact that he's gone if she kills abby or not. she kind of knows, both her and abby have suffered and been through so much and how is killing abby, especially knowing she's now caring for a child, going to make her feel better. i think ellie just wants to go home, back to her child and dina and live a peaceful life. her entire life has been surviving, she just wants to live. i hope i managed to convey my throughts exactly how i feel them through writing this. and i hope i'm not the only person to think of the game this way. i'm just going to add, i know people have different opinions on this game, it seems very much like marmite. but can we please keep any discussion civil and respect the opinions of others. let's not start insulting eachother based off of our interpritations of the game, no matter if you agree with my personal take away or not, thank you x
You’re not the only one, in a matter of fact I think it would be delusional like somebody said to let players have the choice to end Ellie’s revenge with another killing. that is actually what really would ruined her character, she always wanted to bring the bright side of humanity before the apocalypse back and her dream is on the Apollo up to the moon, besides since the part 1even through Joel’s eyes we do know that she wanted to save the last of us from destruction of humanity and civilization for sure. In the end of part 2 she actually accomplished it just in time before every last of meaningful relationship either vanquished by survival or erupt into another hatred under our witness, she ends the chain of inevitable deaths started by both the spores and the soldier who shot Sarah just because of “I have no choice”. She is truly the one uninfected.
Joel's death? Yeah that was bad writing. Part 1 Joel didnt even trust Ellie at first and remember some guy begging for help while Joel was driving . Joel didnt even give a shit about him and tried to run over him. Part 2, Joel immediately trusted Abby's group and even introduced his first name . ITS NOT BECAUSE OF 'WHY' IS JOEL DEAD , IT IS BECAUSE OF' HOW ' HIS DEAD WAS . The trailer was also misleading af. Even Neil lied us that Ellie was only the playable character. If u dont believe me , just go search it. But not gonna lie, the graphic in the game beautiful and astonishing , but story wise they could have gone many other direction.
The Last of us 2 - what an amazing, exciting game!! The story is just breathtaking and so emotional! The landscaping looks so real and is designed so lovingly and true to the detail! Joel sings “Future Days” from Pearl Jam on guitar for Ellie, and later she plays “Take on me” by A-ha for Dina, just goose bumbs! The music is extraordinary like in Part 1, Gustavo Santaolalla did an awesome job! The review with Joel and Ellie at the Wyoming Museum was so touching especially the scene with the staged rocket launch! It`s very moving to see how Ellie grew up and developed as a person in this brutal, unforgiving environment but still be able to smile and to find love! In this fascinating story, Neil Druckmann and his team showed us in a great way how small the difference between good and evil can be! Why is one murder justified and the other is not?! It`s an important lesson to learn, that even the people we love and glorify make mistakes and are far from perfect! Joel and Ellie became our heros, our idols, and no matter what they did or said, we accepted it. Every human being is capable of horrible things when his life is at stake! The murder of Joel was shocking and left us helpless and speechless, so of course you hate Abby at first with a passion! But when we see her point, when we play her and walk in her shoes, our minds change. We develop understanding and compassion and even cheer for her and suffer with her! We judge and condem people in seconds instead of taking some time to understand them and their behavior. It`s more easy to hate and despise other people then to get to know them! But books like “The Count of Monte Cristo”, “Moby Dick” and the movie “Nevada Smith” with Steve McQueen show us that revenge isn`t so easily! The walkthrough with Abby in her town was impressive. The review with her and Owen in the Aquarium was nice. The dialogue on the boat where Owen is talking about that he is tired of fighting and killing was very emotional! The scene where Abby almost got her intestines cut out by the Scars was cruel! The walk with her and Lev at the skyscraper and inside the buildings was interesting and funny. “See the good side of your fear!” The first big confrontation with Abby and Ellie in the theatre was overwhelming and so emotional! You are so conflicted between them and the fight is so brutal and merciless! Thank God Abby didn`t kill Dina! You then watch relaxed the peaceful scene on the farm and think it`s gonna end now but Ellie doesn`t find peace and have to face Abby again! Meanwhile, Abby and Lev are searching for the Fireflies and got brutally beaten up by the Rattlers. The final fight between Ellie and Abby is so tragic and sad! Both are so weak, so emaciated, only shadows of themselves at that moment and it hurts so bad to see them fighting against each other in this ruthless and savagely battle! But then luckily, Ellie decides to let Abby live and she disappears with Lev in the Ocean. The enddialogue between Joel and Ellie is just heartbreaking! What a game, what a story, what an experience! You need a couple days to understand it and to comprehend the whole message! Neil Druckmann and his team did an awesome job and they were very courageous and bold! Ellie and Abby are both strong, deep and complex characters who grew up in this harsh, brutal world. They both did things that aren`t very nice but still they both were able to preserve and retain their kindness, their humanity and their enjoyment of life! And that means a lot, even in our world at this current global crises!
This game is amazing. They've done a really good job. Too bad that there are many people out there who don't appreciate their attempt at creating a story that is truly unconventional but still amazing. Too fixated on certain characters to really enjoy the game. I feel sorry for these people.

I completely prefer the first one over the second one... But thats because I willingly accept I'm a big ass Joel fan! Every story suits people differently, but there are faaar too many people hating on the story just because it wasn't a style suited for them. Play the game standalone - it's ace. Play the game hoping for the things you wanted in the first one and you're setting yourself up for disappointment. This isn't the first game. This isn't Joel's story. It's Ellies.... (And Abbeys yah that one annoyed me having to play as her so much but that again, was only because I had the expectations of wanting to play Ellie. My fault - not Neil Druckmanns. The dude can do whatever he wants with his own story I'm just here to enjoy the ride :D

The "fictional" story of this game is a little TOO REAL right now and it makes me feel queasy & uneasy and downright scared! Please, treat YOURSELF AND OTHERS with Love, Compassion, Empathy, Sympathy, Understanding and a willingness to learn from and about others while also teaching them about yourself and your people. I don’t see why people don’t like the ending. It seems like the whole point was to kill Abby, but ending makes sense because she doesn’t. It would have been so anticlimactic and you would have gotten nothing from it, but she realises how much of a monster she became and said to herself, “I shouldn’t do this, because no one will gain anything.” And yeah it might have made sense if she killed Abby and then realised that she wasn’t satisfied, but both of them make sense and there would be no development of the character after that sequence, even if it’s small.
People seem to forget that, if we are this much affected, insulted and even disappointed by the story of part 2, then Naughty Dog did everything they needed to do. We believe the story, we are fully emerged into it, we love and completly hate some caracters. They built a whole world that we always wish we kept knowing more and more. This is where the masterpiece part of the story takes place. Love it or not, the second part is a perfect extension of Ellie’s caracter.
Nah, I saw actors and not characters, therefore I was dissapointed. I would have disliked this theme of pain and depression either way, but they diddn't tell this story well or showed character development that would lead to these scenarios. Also the teenage drama vibez was not for me, but that would be subjective.
@@kalebnc7868 To be fair is a default story, as in the first game; some people didn't like Joel's decision at the end of the first game, but that's the way it is, it's the same with this ending. It's not like other games that you can choose according to your criteria like Until Dawn or Detroit: Become Human.
It's really awesome to see the amount of hard work that was displayed into the making of this game. That's why I loved it so much. The passion of all the artists involved truly resonates throughout the entire experience. Even if some parts of the gameplay with Abby weren't that compelling, I still think this game will be a freakin' classic in the future. Thanks for the video!
I understand the message of the game and I appreciate what they did to make it happen. But, I personally think they did it all backwards.We should've played as Abby for half the game BEFORE she killed Joel, because even though we see her flash backs and understand her reasoning, it's hard to forgive what she did because this was a character we didn't know, nor' had any attachment to. I also think they shouldn't have killed Joel the way that they did. I don't mind he died, nor' do I mind how he died, I'm only bothered by the pacing of it. He died within the first two hours of playing. Understand? He died within the first 2 hours of a 35 hour game. It seemed they rushed to start the story. I think what could've been better, if Joel died a heroic death, maybe fighting Abby to protect Ellie or something. Only thinking that because, part 2 disrespected Joel's character. Made him dumb just for the sake of the story line. There were so many ideas they could've gone with, but they chose the most disappointing choice. Also, just a piece of personal opinion on Joel's death, he didn't deserve what happened to him and why? Because he killed the fireflies and the surgeon whom were threatening to kill his baby girl. And they didn't even bother to wake Ellie up, whilst still unconscious, they drugged her to keep her asleep to continue the surgery. Which is pretty fucked up. I mean, Ellie says now that she would've preferred to die if it meant a cure could be made, but maybe at the time, she wouldn't want to. Joel saved a little 14 year old girl from being killed whilst being drugged, unconscious after already almost dying. The fireflies weren't even giving Ellie a choice, that's why they didn't want her awake to consent to it, because what would they do if she decided against it? And for what? To make a cure that most likely isn't possible to make or if they did, how would they distribute it? Joel is and always will be the real MVP.
I am not sure that players were meant to forgive Abby. She killed our loved character in a very horrible way. I think the point is how you proceed from this - the rage, the grief, the acceptance (of death) and healing, beginning new chapter of life. That rage didn't let Ellie live peacefully with her newly formed family. Also her last argument with Joel only brings additional guilt for her. The similar rage didn't let Abby live peacefully for 4 years before she found Joel. And this is awful. I truly would not wish such fate for Ellie - to live a life solely controlled by thoughts about revenge. We were meant to feel what Ellie felt - it means we should not have known initially who Abby is and why she did that. Sure, Joel didn't deserve what happened to him, that's how we can judge, knowing all the things about him, Ellie and fireflies. But that's not what Abby knows - for her he is just the worst emeny. In the end Abby basically lost pretty much everyone close to her, she has no home to return to. In a way, it is a punishment, isn't it?
I agree to an extend. However, this game was not about who deserves what or who was right. Perspective changes the way you look, it changes the truth or the justice. I don't think Joel was dumb in anyway in this game, and I agree he did not deserve this but people don't always get what they deserve. I would love to see him more, but that is what happens when a lovedone dies. You regret the moments you could not share together, just like what happened to Ellie. In the end he made peace with the consequences and Joel's death. And as a player you don't have to forgive abby, I don't think even Ellie forgave her even after the ending. That was never the point. The point I get was actions have consequences. Joel was right for saving Ellie, but Ellie was also right. There is no objective truth to these human interactions, there is perspective though. And we get to see the Abby's perspective, and how her actions have resulted. There is no right or wrong. You don't have to love everyone in this world. But you should understand everyone and understand the consequences of someone's actions. Well at least that is my point of view.
tbh, i get what you mean. but the whole game just fucks your expectations. the amount of loopholes and twists in the story aspect works well with how joel dies. its quick, and easy feeling because that can very much happen irl, especially in this environment. joel has become more dormant over time due to the fact hes safe. also, making the player play as abby when you really didnt want to forced the player to see different perspectives. its very clever in a story telling way, and its really fucking cool. the story writers dont want this to be predictable or cliché, and theyve done it so well!
I thought it was a cool twist that it was Jesse who said "you think I’d let you do this on your own" instead of Joel in the trailer, it was cool that it wasn’t what I was expecting and I didnt expect Abby to be the main enemy from the trailer

This game was amazing. I understand why people were upset with not being able to play Ellie throughout the whole game, but personally I liked getting to know why Abby killed Joel and growing sympathy for her. It just shows that in a world like this we can think we are the “good guys” but to someone else we will be the bad guys. Just like someone will be the bad guys for us. Everyone’s also bitching about it when the first game was supposed to be one and done and then cry because the game developers didn’t do it the way some people wanted.
Nicole Paaño people were upset about how these characters barely got developed and were killed off like nothing. Example: Jesse and Manny. You get to know them for a little bit, and then never seen until hours later and then their killed off. No character after their death even remembers or mentions them, as if they were wiped from their memory. Another issue I had was how chronologically horrible this game was. Why do I find out the reason Abby has to kill Joel 9 hours after he died? One more issue is that the ending was legit stupid. The whole game was meant for revenge, and it doesn’t happen. You essentially spent $60 for not even achieving what you wanted. This game is utter trash, story wise.

I think both games are absolutely amazing. I love the storyline although some of it is really sad. I really hope they make a 3rd game and ellie will get her happy ending.
This game wasn’t like playing a movie - it was like playing an entire TV series... I’ve never had such a unique video game experience as this. The amount of work that clearly went into bringing this world and these characters to life is staggering. I can’t fault it and while it may have taken me about 25 hours to get through it I can’t wait to play through it again.
I find it fascinating how much Ellie has changed after Joel, and how through Abby's perspective, how Ellie ends up as the antagonist, luckily she too sees that and stops thankfully, theres still hope for her.
I love this game so much because it shows no one is in the right, its just the cycle of revenge and Kellie eventually realizes this when fighting abby.

Anthony Gough the way we’re supposed to see it is if ellie was able to forgive joel for “saving” her as its said, then she can forgive abby for taking joel from her. I know its dumb, but i personally like the way they worked around that. Joel killed abbys dad to save ellie then abby got the revenge she wanted (which we all hated to see). You’d think that ellie is doing the right thing seeking revenge but abby is really the hero of the story. Naughty dog just completely mind fucked us the whole way through until we finally see why abby killed joel. I still hate abby for taking our fav character but definitely a 10/10 game for me 💯

What i dont think many people understand is that Abby watched her dad lying dead on the floor having bled out because joel stabbed him. That is why Abby killed Joel.
I hope they make another Grounded documentary. More so, I hope that it will be more in the style of Raising Kratos, professionally edited and directed, featuring even all the struggles they had to go through during the development rather than just a bunch of interviews meshed together.
It’s rather disturbing to see what Ellie became after Joel’s death, seeing her in the first game as a shy, yet rebellious young teenager. Then in the second game as a murderous, careless terminator that seems at times she doesn’t give a fuck or feel pain. Joel’s lyrics greatly describe her situation, “If I ever were to lose you, I’d surely lose myself.” Which implies that if one were to pass, the other would lose their mind.
This is why the ending SPOILER (ellie letting abby go) works so well. As ellie is trying to drown abby she sees joel playing a guitar and remembers the scene where she decides to try to forgive him. Before that moment all of the concurrent ptsd’s included joel’s beaten up death scene. Almost haunting her. This is why i love the ending. So many people missed the whole point of it all.

Someone pointed out that before Ellie left to after Abby, she didn't wear Dina's luck bracelet. And when she returns it is zoomed in on her wrist wearing it. Either Ellie returns to the farmhouse months after the Abby ordeal with Dina's forgiveness and finally lets Joel go, or this is Ellie before she goes to Jackson ,if she goes at all. Either way, hope to see more soon! Need to see more of Dina!

The Abby part immerses you so much that in that theatre you really want to hurt Ellie. but somewhere during the California section, the game makes you realize both of them need to either die or live. Both were heroes and suffered great losses in their own narratives, and making you actually perform most actions is what makes the story something that can only properly be told in video game form.

This game is literally a playable movie and it’s not even that bad it’s really good, people simply hating cause it didn’t go the way they wanted but if you just LISTEN nd pay attention to the characters expressions it makes a lot more sense, you also need to be able to have the ability to view things from others perspectives cause the game HEAVILY resides on the points of views of alll the characters.
However, they are responsible for some horrendous marketing. In the promotional material of the game, they either mentionned little of Abby or not at all.
Also, as much as I love the game, that part where Joel says « You think I'd let you do this on your own ? » in the release date trailer was just awfully misleading and embarrassing, because it heavily implied that Joel will play an important part in the game.
I wanted it to be a masterpiece, but for now, it's just a really good game.

If they wanted to keep Abby's involvement in the game a secret, then it's totally fine, but it would've been much less obnoxious if the promotional material of the game hasn't been all about the supposedly "upcoming story of Joel and Ellie". Because the misleading isn't only in the release date trailer, there is even more misleading statements in the 2017 PSX conference, where Neil Druckmann himself implies that you'll be able to play as Joel and Ellie.
But then again, this type of misleading is frequent inside of the gaming industry, I just didn't expect Naughty Dog to do it.
@@GhassaneJabri you do technically get to play as Joel but I get what you're saying. Apparently Naughty Dog actually did this with TLOU1 as well, they always denied that you'd get to play as Ellie because they wanted it to do be a surprise.
I think the thing that annoyed me the most was how they swapped out characters in gameplay footage (Dina missing in some, Jessie replaced with Joel, etc). And also on the Play Station Store you can buy the profile pictures of the characters and Abby is called "mysterious woman" like why is that necessary? Whether you know her name or not doesn't tell you who she is - she wasn't in the first game! And another one you can buy is Emily, the leader of the Seraphites, who died in her first scene - she's not even an important character?
I don't get how people can't empathise with Abby, she was in a similar situation as Ellie too. Maybe I'm just weird, but part of me felt bad for her and I didn't want to kill her.

Felt bad with what I did playing Ellie's character, but at the same time I didn't because I still felt Ellie's rage and broken heart. But it's just not fair.. for either parties. Idk man. it's ridiculous how much hate this game gets- the heartbreak of it is what makes the story. and the way ellie projects her own guilt and self hatred on abby is such a good narrative. it takes the whole story for ellie to realize that killing abby will not bring joel back, nor make her feel any better. the emotional aspect of this game is phenomenal.
I hope they're not deterred from making a sequel that makes clear to ellie why Abby killed Joel.

This game ripped my heart to pieces. The first game was a pivotal experience in my life, I can so vividly remember how it made me feel, how it made me cry, laugh, scream. And the second game completely exceeded my expectations. By the end of it I couldn’t stop crying, I deeply understand and love both characters and was audibly yelling at the screen in the Abby vs Ellie combat scenes. And by the end of the game I truly couldn’t pick a side, I love Ellie and Joel but now I love Abby and Lev as well and even now the brutal visual of Joel dead truly affected me. A beautiful game. A truly beautiful game. I can’t wait to see the future of the game.

This game wasn’t what I expected. I loved the graphics, the characters, and gameplay. This game was great overall. I was on the edge of my seat at all times. The ending wasn’t the greatest, but I’m really hoping a third one comes out for further explanation, but great work on this game.

mmhmm.. until i played the game i thought Dina was the one that was gonna die, i figured joel would eventually die in this game but ... omg. i think i was in disbelief a good 2hrs after that joel scene lol. i was legit talking about how we didnt actually see his dead body and that grave could just be empty and hes in hiding recovering, mainly because i saw that trailer when he tells ellie "you think id let you do this on your own" or whatever. man this game.... destroyed me. still love it though, even though the pacing was sometimes... really... really slow...

I really felt like i was Ellie when i played as abby and was trying to kill Ellie. That was so weird just like i was trying to kill myself it felt so surreal and, I don’t think any other game will make me feel so many feelings at the same time. Absolutely amazing. And at the beginning i was very angry at abby cuz you know she fucking killed Joel but, when i got to play as abby I started to feel for her. And I understand why she killed Joel. If you look at her point of view you would probably do the same and react the same way. But that does not change the fact that she killed Joel and still pretty mad at her for that. And also I absolutely love this game it felt so real playing it and the story is so beautiful. At the end when Ellie really couldn’t kill abby because she thought of Joel and that he wouldn’t wanted her to do that is so fucking sad she realized that she had become a cold, ego, monster, she just left dina and their cute little potato and for what? To come home realizing both of them are gone, she had nobody. Her life was truly fucked up and traumatizing poor Ellie:(

From a game logic it just doesn't make any sense to force people to play a character they hate for 10 freaking hrs. the amount of thought put into this game never ceases to amaze me oh my god. them having the player make choices that they then have to live with and making different almost like easter eggs that some players will never see if they only play the game once is so cool. the fact that you can play the game five times and have different things happen or notice different things on each playthrough is what makes this one of my favorite games

It was the most amazing and magical experience that I've ever felt. I felt everything, I lost something with Ellie on her persue for revange, and in the end I felt the anger, the guilty, and the powerless because I hate Abby, but I couldn't kill her too. Now, I'm so emotionally exhausted that I can't play again. Will take a while, maybe long, to this empty and sorrow disappear enough and than maybe I can play Joel's song for Ellie now that she can't do it anymore.

I think its amazing they actually included lgbtq characters and its truly amazing how Ellie and Dina show their affection towards each other...
In most instances in games, movies, or shows it’s a cheap crowd pleaser, but this game did those characters and how they affect those around them really well. They’re more than just what they identify as and that’s what makes them powerful characters. So yes amazing.
Coming from somebody who genuinely enjoyed this game, I couldn't help but laugh at when Druckmann said 'If a group has survived this long they must be dangerous. You have to be dangerous if you want to survive, otherwise you will end up as someones victim.'
Try telling that to and applying that mentality to Tommy before he spouted out his own name and Joel's to a group of random ass strangers.

i really enjoyed the game, and i loved the ending, i get why people wanted the revenge but it was a big risk that for me payed off. we got to experience the tiring nature physically and mentally of constantly feeling the need to brutally kill people, and that last fight was exausting. ellie had been fighting for so long, hunting abby down for so long, they'd had their brutal encounters, but for me the fact that she chose to let her go was realistic. for me, she realises even with all the violence and this long exausting fight with abby, isn't going to bring joel back. i think for ellie, it's a point of realisation, that she needs to let go of the violence. the violence has never brought much good, just hate and anger, it won't bring joel back, she'll still have to live with the fact that he's gone if she kills abby or not. she kind of knows, both her and abby have suffered and been through so much and how is killing abby, especially knowing she's now caring for a child, going to make her feel better. i think ellie just wants to go home, back to her child and dina and live a peaceful life. her entire life has been surviving, she just wants to live. i hope i managed to convey my throughts exactly how i feel them through writing this. and i hope i'm not the only person to think of the game this way.

You’re not the only one, in a matter of fact I think it would be delusional like somebody said to let players have the choice to end Ellie’s revenge with another killing. that is actually what really would ruined her character, she always wanted to bring the bright side of humanity before the apocalypse back and her dream is on the Apollo up to the moon, besides since the part 1even through Joel’s eyes we do know that she wanted to save the last of us from destruction of humanity and civilization for sure. In the end of part 2 she actually accomplished it just in time before every last of meaningful relationship either vanquished by survival or erupt into another hatred under our witness, she ends the chain of inevitable deaths started by both the spores and the soldier who shot Sarah just because of “I have no choice”. She is truly the one uninfected.
Joel's death? Yeah that was bad writing. Part 1 Joel didnt even trust Ellie at first and remember some guy begging for help while Joel was driving . Joel didnt even give a shit about him and tried to run over him. Part 2, Joel immediately trusted Abby's group and even introduced his first name . ITS NOT BECAUSE OF 'WHY' IS JOEL DEAD , IT IS BECAUSE OF' HOW ' HIS DEAD WAS . The trailer was also misleading af. Even Neil lied us that Ellie was only the playable character. If u dont believe me , just go search it. But not gonna lie, the graphic in the game beautiful and astonishing , but story wise they could have gone many other direction.

The Last of us 2 - what an amazing, exciting game!! The story is just breathtaking and so emotional! The landscaping looks so real and is designed so lovingly and true to the detail! Joel sings “Future Days” from Pearl Jam on guitar for Ellie, and later she plays “Take on me” by A-ha for Dina, just goose bumbs! The music is extraordinary like in Part 1, Gustavo Santaolalla did an awesome job!
The review with Joel and Ellie at the Wyoming Museum was so touching especially the scene with the staged rocket launch! It`s very moving to see how Ellie grew up and developed as a person in this brutal, unforgiving environment but still be able to smile and to find love! In this fascinating story, Neil Druckmann and his team showed us in a great way how small the difference between good and evil can be! Why is one murder justified and the other is not?! It`s an important lesson to learn, that even the people we love and glorify make mistakes and are far from perfect! Joel and Ellie became our heros, our idols, and no matter what they did or said, we accepted it. Every human being is capable of horrible things when his life is at stake!
The murder of Joel was shocking and left us helpless and speechless, so of course you hate Abby at first with a passion! But when we see her point, when we play her and walk in her shoes, our minds change. We develop understanding and compassion and even cheer for her and suffer with her!
We judge and condem people in seconds instead of taking some time to understand them and their behavior. It`s more easy to hate and despise other people then to get to know them! But books like “The Count of Monte Cristo”, “Moby Dick” and the movie “Nevada Smith” with Steve McQueen show us that revenge isn`t so easily!
The walkthrough with Abby in her town was impressive. The review with her and Owen in the Aquarium was nice. The dialogue on the boat where Owen is talking about that he is tired of fighting and killing was very emotional! The scene where Abby almost got her intestines cut out by the Scars was cruel! The walk with her and Lev at the skyscraper and inside the buildings was interesting and funny. “See the good side of your fear!”
The first big confrontation with Abby and Ellie in the theatre was overwhelming and so emotional! You are so conflicted between them and the fight is so brutal and merciless! Thank God Abby didn`t kill Dina!
You then watch relaxed the peaceful scene on the farm and think it`s gonna end now but Ellie doesn`t find peace and have to face Abby again! Meanwhile, Abby and Lev are searching for the Fireflies and got brutally beaten up by the Rattlers.
The final fight between Ellie and Abby is so tragic and sad! Both are so weak, so emaciated, only shadows of themselves at that moment and it hurts so bad to see them fighting against each other in this ruthless and savagely battle! But then luckily, Ellie decides to let Abby live and she disappears with Lev in the Ocean. The enddialogue between Joel and Ellie is just heartbreaking!
What a game, what a story, what an experience! You need a couple days to understand it and to comprehend the whole message! Neil Druckmann and his team did an awesome job and they were very courageous and bold! Ellie and Abby are both strong, deep and complex characters who grew up in this harsh, brutal world. They both did things that aren`t very nice but still they both were able to preserve and retain their kindness, their humanity and their enjoyment of life! And that means a lot, even in our world at this current global crises!
This game is amazing. They've done a really good job. Too bad that there are many people out there who don't appreciate their attempt at creating a story that is truly unconventional but still amazing. Too fixated on certain characters to really enjoy the game. I feel sorry for these people.

I don’t see why people don’t like the ending. It seems like the whole point was to kill Abby, but ending makes sense because she doesn’t. It would have been so anticlimactic and you would have gotten nothing from it, but she realises how much of a monster she became and said to herself, “I shouldn’t do this, because no one will gain anything.” And yeah it might have made sense if she killed Abby and then realised that she wasn’t satisfied, but both of them make sense and there would be no development of the character after that sequence, even if it’s small.
People seem to forget that, if we are this much affected, insulted and even disappointed by the story of part 2, then Naughty Dog did everything they needed to do. We believe the story, we are fully emerged into it, we love and completly hate some caracters. They built a whole world that we always wish we kept knowing more and more. This is where the masterpiece part of the story takes place. Love it or not, the second part is a perfect extension of Ellie’s caracter.
Nah, I saw actors and not characters, therefore I was dissapointed. I would have disliked this theme of pain and depression either way, but they diddn't tell this story well or showed character development that would lead to these scenarios. Also the teenage drama vibez was not for me, but that would be subjective.

It's really awesome to see the amount of hard work that was displayed into the making of this game. That's why I loved it so much. The passion of all the artists involved truly resonates throughout the entire experience. I understand the message of the game and I appreciate what they did to make it happen. But, I personally think they did it all backwards.We should've played as Abby for half the game BEFORE she killed Joel, because even though we see her flash backs and understand her reasoning, it's hard to forgive what she did because this was a character we didn't know, nor' had any attachment to. I also think they shouldn't have killed Joel the way that they did. I don't mind he died, nor' do I mind how he died, I'm only bothered by the pacing of it. He died within the first two hours of playing. Understand? He died within the first 2 hours of a 35 hour game. It seemed they rushed to start the story. I think what could've been better, if Joel died a heroic death, maybe fighting Abby to protect Ellie or something. Only thinking that because, part 2 disrespected Joel's character. Made him dumb just for the sake of the story line. There were so many ideas they could've gone with, but they chose the most disappointing choice. Also, just a piece of personal opinion on Joel's death, he didn't deserve what happened to him and why? Because he killed the fireflies and the surgeon whom were threatening to kill his baby girl. And they didn't even bother to wake Ellie up, whilst still unconscious, they drugged her to keep her asleep to continue the surgery. Which is pretty fucked up. I mean, Ellie says now that she would've preferred to die if it meant a cure could be made, but maybe at the time, she wouldn't want to. Joel saved a little 14 year old girl from being killed whilst being drugged, unconscious after already almost dying. The fireflies weren't even giving Ellie a choice, that's why they didn't want her awake to consent to it, because what would they do if she decided against it? And for what? To make a cure that most likely isn't possible to make or if they did, how would they distribute it? Joel is and always will be the real MVP.

I am not sure that players were meant to forgive Abby. She killed our loved character in a very horrible way. I think the point is how you proceed from this - the rage, the grief, the acceptance (of death) and healing, beginning new chapter of life. That rage didn't let Ellie live peacefully with her newly formed family. Also her last argument with Joel only brings additional guilt for her.
The similar rage didn't let Abby live peacefully for 4 years before she found Joel.
And this is awful. I truly would not wish such fate for Ellie - to live a life solely controlled by thoughts about revenge.
We were meant to feel what Ellie felt - it means we should not have known initially who Abby is and why she did that.
Sure, Joel didn't deserve what happened to him, that's how we can judge, knowing all the things about him, Ellie and fireflies. But that's not what Abby knows - for her he is just the worst emeny.
In the end Abby basically lost pretty much everyone close to her, she has no home to return to. In a way, it is a punishment, isn't it?
I agree to an extend. However, this game was not about who deserves what or who was right. Perspective changes the way you look, it changes the truth or the justice. I don't think Joel was dumb in anyway in this game, and I agree he did not deserve this but people don't always get what they deserve. I would love to see him more, but that is what happens when a lovedone dies. You regret the moments you could not share together, just like what happened to Ellie. In the end he made peace with the consequences and Joel's death.
And as a player you don't have to forgive abby, I don't think even Ellie forgave her even after the ending. That was never the point. The point I get was actions have consequences. Joel was right for saving Ellie, but Ellie was also right. There is no objective truth to these human interactions, there is perspective though. And we get to see the Abby's perspective, and how her actions have resulted. There is no right or wrong.
You don't have to love everyone in this world. But you should understand everyone and understand the consequences of someone's actions. Well at least that is my point of view.
tbh, i get what you mean. but the whole game just fucks your expectations. the amount of loopholes and twists in the story aspect works well with how joel dies. its quick, and easy feeling because that can very much happen irl, especially in this environment. joel has become more dormant over time due to the fact hes safe. also, making the player play as abby when you really didnt want to forced the player to see different perspectives. its very clever in a story telling way, and its really fucking cool. the story writers dont want this to be predictable or cliché, and theyve done it so well!

This game was amazing. I understand why people were upset with not being able to play Ellie throughout the whole game, but personally I liked getting to know why Abby killed Joel and growing sympathy for her. It just shows that in a world like this we can think we are the “good guys” but to someone else we will be the bad guys. Just like someone will be the bad guys for us.

Nicole Paaño people were upset about how these characters barely got developed and were killed off like nothing. Example: Jesse and Manny. You get to know them for a little bit, and then never seen until hours later and then their killed off. No character after their death even remembers or mentions them, as if they were wiped from their memory. Another issue I had was how chronologically horrible this game was. Why do I find out the reason Abby has to kill Joel 9 hours after he died? One more issue is that the ending was legit stupid. The whole game was meant for revenge, and it doesn’t happen. You essentially spent $60 for not even achieving what you wanted. This game is utter trash, story wise.

@sadiq2008 ye in my opinion at the end ellie already one there was no need for revenge it got to the point where i was telling ellie to let go of abby when she was drowning her cause i felt bad i understand that ellie wanted revenge for Joel and i was like "kill that bitch" but in the end you could tell there was no need to kill abby i love this game i love naughty dog i dont care what anyone says i cried so many tears and no game has ever made me do that

I think both games are absolutely amazing. I love the storyline although some of it is really sad. I really hope they make a 3rd game and ellie will get her happy ending.

This game wasn’t like playing a movie - it was like playing an entire TV series... I’ve never had such a unique video game experience as this. The amount of work that clearly went into bringing this world and these characters to life is staggering. I can’t fault it and while it may have taken me about 25 hours to get through it I can’t wait to play through it again.

I find it fascinating how much Ellie has changed after Joel, and how through Abby's perspective, how Ellie ends up as the antagonist, luckily she too sees that and stops thankfully, theres still hope for her.
I love this game so much because it shows no one is in the right, its just the cycle of revenge and Kellie eventually realizes this when fighting abby.
Its way more than that...
I feel so blessed to have these guinous hardworking crew making up a masterpiece.

@@julianmx13 *SPOILERS* Joel dies a petty death the first hour in, you play as Ellie getting revenge on all of Abby's friends, then you play as Abby the chick who killed Joel and then at the end Ellie gets cold feet and doesn't kill Abby because she's sees a flashback of Joel playing guitar???? Plus the hundreds of people she's killed just to get to her. The storyline sucks a*s, but an opinion is an opinion I suppose.
Anthony Gough the way we’re supposed to see it is if ellie was able to forgive joel for “saving” her as its said, then she can forgive abby for taking joel from her. I know its dumb, but i personally like the way they worked around that. Joel killed abbys dad to save ellie then abby got the revenge she wanted (which we all hated to see). You’d think that ellie is doing the right thing seeking revenge but abby is really the hero of the story. Naughty dog just completely mind fucked us the whole way through until we finally see why abby killed joel. I still hate abby for taking our fav character but definitely a 10/10 game for me 💯

What i dont think many people understand is that Abby watched her dad lying dead on the floor having bled out because joel stabbed him. That is why Abby killed Joel.

I hope they make another Grounded documentary. More so, I hope that it will be more in the style of Raising Kratos, professionally edited and directed, featuring even all the struggles they had to go through during the development rather than just a bunch of interviews meshed together.
