Throughout all these TLOU playthroughs, I like how attentive Nolan is. He really tries to understand the game and story and points out things Troy is missing, while being super calm and chill about it.
He keeps me coming back (and the guests of course), if it was just Troy I probably won't be able to watch
I don't think Troy is missing things as much as he is intentionally not exploring, not checking bodies for supplies, and ignoring suggestions. Troy just wants to sprint to the end and he probably feels his tactics are justified because the game often lets him get away with doing that (especially with the difficulty set to 'easy').
yeah! That's why I think he's totally a better gamer than Troy. The game is almost over and Troy....has yet to prove himself.

@@SpindriftersBane To give Troy the benefit of the doubt, I think he's rushing because they're trying to manage guest scheduling. Yeah, it's frustrating to watch sometimes, but it has to be difficult to try and get to a certain point in the game so you can bring someone in at just the right story beat.
David is 100% sexual toward Ellie. There is the hand touching thing obviously, also when he gets on top of her and starts choking her he says "you have no idea what i'm capable of". And when Ellie kills him she is so traumatized in that moment that she doesn't even realize it's Joel that grabs her. She also says "he tried to...", tried to what? I don't think she was gonna say "tried to kill me", she's gone the whole game having people try to kill her and she never became as traumatized and depressed as she becomes after that David encounter. It also adds weight to what Marlene says later in the game when she is trying to convince Joel to leave Ellie. She says "How long before she's torn to pieces by a pack of clickers? That is if she hasn't been raped and murdered first". Joel knows for a fact that it's possible, and almost happened, yet he still takes Ellie with him.
Also the “David’s newest pet” thing.

Haha I always love how Ashley is just straight up Ellie. Her personality is literally identical and I think that's why Ellie is acted so naturally. Happy that she didn't leave in this episode and hope to see another full episode with her. The next scene should certainly be an interesting conversation between the 3 of them :D

Here's the thing:
What you call "backseat gaming" isn't what's happening, despite Troy acting a bit childish and accusing Nolan of Monday morning quarterbacking. They're sharing the play through, taking turns playing like they do with their usual content. Troy's problem is that he keeps acting as if he's this skilled video game player, when he's not. On some level he realizes this, which is why he get bitchy so easily.
Troy is a decent dude, he's just not as good as he thinks himself to be.

Nolan is bad with the controler itself. Good with gamesense while he doesnt have to deal with the controler thing. But Troy is vice versa - bad with gamesense but pretty good with the controler itself.
@@roxydzey Troy isn't good with a controller though. Better than Nolan, but he only seems to know the controls when he isn't playing. As soon as he is in control he loses all sense of input control, just mashing every face button until the right thing happens. Watch him swing to pick things up, run into a wall for ages before vaulting, swinging at that wall, going into crouch when he wants attack, going into crouch when he wants to aim, swinging when he wants to reload, mashing buttons to run, mashing buttons to swim... It's all over the place.

They Just manipulate us and force us to kill many dogs as Ellie to show how evil she is and then how "our new favourite character Abby" plays with dogs and pets them...
When the dude spit out "she's david's newest pet," that was what confirmed for me that david had sexual intentions. Everything for that I gave him the benefit of the doubt.
I'm not going to lie, the interrogation cutscene might just be my favourite in the game. The raw hatred and worry in Joel is really shown, and I think is one the catalytic moments where players can see how much Joel loves Ellie.
Also, I think there were perverted implication within David's character but I agree with Nolan that it was of more admiration and the possibility that she could be a good asset to the group- which I guess does come with being able to reproduce but that's the beauty of nothing being explicit in this game.
I LOVE that cutscene too!
When Joel kicks the guy in the face and staggers back up to him to he can drop to his knees at his face, felt very real and like his gut still hurts. He had to follow-through with the kick to drop, he couldn't recover THEN drop.
@justerthought I understand what you're saying but don't take away from the power of implication here. Neil Druckmann probably agrees with you- and as i said there were perverted notions. What is so amazing is that it isn't explicit in words or graphic but is still a palpable experience. Something like that doesn't need evidence mate, sorry :)

Typically "stealth" would mean taking people out one at a time without anyone noticing.
Troy's definition seems to be more akin to "taking them all out before they have time to notice." 🤣

I want to start by saying that Nolan has become a total pro at reading the game. I’m actually really impressed at his level of perception and advise.
Now, how Troy «The Gamer» Baker, Troy «Stealth master» Baker, Troy «Melee from 10 yards away» Baker has finished this game before is beyond me, running around in circles like a headless chicken.
Love you guys, and the show is otherwise an absolute treat, but Troy’s gameplay makes me scream.

He never pay any attention to the in-game surroundings but only to the dialogues, the way that he made a statement about the covered bodies in the sewers, I was like dude, back stories like this are everywhere in this entire game, and your mind was blown away with this one story? I've learned not to pay attention to how he is not using the tools that the game provide, or how he is not picking up enough supplies, if that's the way he plays, however the way he keeps on emphasising how much he loves this work of naughty dog but he never pay attention to the other aspect except from the actor point of view? 🙄

Troy's expression when he asked Ashley is she wanted to play killed me. It was like the expression someone would have when they asked another person if they wanted to go on a date. It felt a little lacking how Ashley joined the episode with Nolan and Troy; no grand intro, but being given the controller more than makes up for it.

I thought the point of the game was that supplies and bullets were scarce. Well, I suppose if I were to run around only meleeing people to death for ‘stealth’, I wouldn’t need to look for supplies either.

Its totally about scavenging for supplies to survive! And if it wasn't about scavenging why is here hidden goodies in the nooks and crannies? Hmmmm?! Because they want you to tap into your inner Drake and explore the world they built!
I guess it's less about the supplies on Easy, because there's stuff everywhere. And Troy seems more interested in moving the story along so he can comment that it's one of his favorite scenes, haha.
If they were playing on Survivor or Grounded, it'd be a very different story. EVERY find is like gold.
Beth Anderson - i never played on easy. My start was Normal which pops the easy trophy. But even so. I used up my resources which forces you to scavenge for more... Now yes on Grounded and grounded + you check everywhere because you dont know what is or isnt going to be there to use and I save like everything for those major battles.

I'm watching all of it for the love of seeing the voice actors playing their own characters, but fuck me it's exhausting watching them fumble around and fuck it up. They barely use hearing mode, almost never use the bow (the most effective weapon in the game) upgrading weapons in the least effective way and I can't recall them using their stim upgrades. If they did, they probably wouldn't put it into hearing and something irrelevant instead. I love how proud Troy is of his work and the game, but he can't play it worth a damn. So arrogant for someone who talks such a big game. How can you die so often on easy with auto-aim on?

While Troy's right about the game never being explicit about what David wanted with Ellie, I think when you look at everything it's hard to imagine that it wasn't sexual on some level. The part with him softly touching her hand and referring to her as being "special" is obvious, but more damning is one of his goons referring to her as "David's newest pet". It shows that she's not the first, and if he viewed those people as being fatherly figure for them, then it'd make no sense for those around him to refer to those people at pets.

Discrepancies like this can often happen when the actor playing the role and the director have different opinions on the plot or character. As far as how Nolan intended it to be taken, it isn't necessarily sexual. I agree that the line of "David's newest pet", really does imply sexual or malicious intent but it wasn't Nolan's line and he might not have even known about that. Does that mean that we should completely discount Nolan's personal depiction of the character in favour of the directors? I would say "No". Multiple people are involved in a project, all bringing their own interpretation and sense of the plot and I think we should not be looking for a definite answer that rules out everything else. Its impossible to quantify the ratio of influence between the director and the actor when creating a character (not to mention the multiple writers) so I think there can be no choice but to give each of them equal merit. In the end, when something is open to interpretation and you make a choice it is YOUR choice and doesn't mean its the reality of that world. Not only is that reality different for each viewer but most importantly, its different for all the people involved in the world's inception.
A good example of where a discrepancy like this occurred is in Blade Runner 1982. The director Ridley Scott and main actor Harrison Ford have completely different opinions on the character and the plot and each varying opinion completely changes a viewers outlook at the ending of the film. At first, it is kind of frustrating not having a definite explanation but that's part of the beauty of art, right?
well to be fair davids story could also be similar to joels. maybe he lost a daughter years back and now he takes on these girls as a way to cope. replaces his dead daughter with new ones. a creepier version of joel

Nolan North's performance as David was awesome I loved the evil, sinister, voice gave the character david in the game and not just him the whole cast was perfect for the roles they played. Kudos to Neil Druckmann for putting together one hell of a talented cast for the last of us A.K.A the greatest video game of all-time.
When playing as Ellie, try to avoid using the knife for anything other than stealth unless you hit them with a brick/bottle first, and again, if you're going to use stealth, DON'T RUN
Actually, do run in stealth. Just very selectively. As default, sneak around. But stealth and Grounded playthroughs (though I know this isn't Grounded) require the occassional dash.
@@shweenz I use running at the bookstore upstairs. Make your way upstairs stealthily, then brick the guy guarding the door and run out of the building
I play on grounded and I sneak very quietly stabbing the first 6 or 7 and I NEVER pick up the gun until I have done that part *because if you pick up the gun they stop dropping bullets.* I only use bottles when I know they are alone or the others come running in.
Out of that first area, around the pet shop, I end up with 6 or 7 bullets and then simply blast my way through the rest. At the top of the stairs above the mail truck there's usually 1 or 2 that can easily be shot through the haze. I go down the side alley at the video arcade and nail the last 3 as they come through the door.
Just be patient until your loaded up with bullets.
I do similar in the Hospital with the El Diablo so that when it comes to that last area before the surgery I have a full load of 9 bullets.
I picked up that from watching some others here on YT.
