I've watched LeBron from year 1 to now. Probably anywhere from 30 games to 70 games a year (not always the full game). I'm so happy I've enjoyed his greatness and didn't hate on it.
Same, he really grew on me the more he became a man. His dedication is 2nd to Kobe, he's a great family man, and seems like a great friend. He may call himself King, but he has a humility that i dont think most giys would have in hos position. It's been really cool to grow up watching him grow up
I mean I’ve seen an equal amount of games give or take you know but I don’t know what this hate is Fundamentally he is not sound he is actually below average His jumper is weak His handles are not what u would call stellar He FORCES his teams to play five out even when it reduces versatile all star bigs like Love and Bosh to be spot up three point shooters One time real quick what’s the weakest part of their games? Oh yea I watched basketball since 1988 so I can appreciate the athleticism and also call bs on the beyond fake narratives Sad reality James lost in 07 due to his lack of a jumper. He knocks down threes and the mid range the defense listens up opening the offense making them unbeatable He failed to win until he built the most stacked team ever by far Then went .500 It’s fair to say he under performed at every stop The guys top thirty all time maybe close to twenty Personally I wouldn’t take him under any circumstances cause he is to limited in how he can play.

The interesting thing is at the end of Jordan’s career when he was In Washington no one was expecting Jordan to deliver a championship. Lebron in his 21st year is still expected to deliver on a chip. Says something about how well he’s still doing.
We knew MJ was on bad wheels...playing FULL SEASONS and going hard pretty much every game will do that so no no one expected a chip. What i wanna know is how is THIS man escaping Father time?? SUSPECT if you ask me However regardless of his longevity hes not on Jordans level...hes just a Great once in a lifetime player whos played like Mayweather picked his fights. Recruiting for HIS benefit offense flows through him but the only thing i see is him basically doing the same thing. I never saw him do anything ive never seen before from a player putside of longevity. MJ put a career of firsts..and all this Pippem Phil talk is deflected and DESPERATION. Why did he leave Miami?? He saw the writing on the wall unhealthy Wade severly unhealthy Bosh which Gil doesnt even touch. Ran back home to a pretty stacked cavs.... then he ran again to LA where HE blew up the young talent to get AD anyone denying that is a STRAIGHT STAN IDC what anyone says...hes great but hes NOT greater than MJ...

I tell you what, I will believe anything you say when any player in this league plays 82 games at age 40. By the way, the player needs to play 82 games at age 40 with a bad knee. When you find me a player that can do that, you have some credibility with us.

@@blanktrigger8863 that's not true. It's actually the same if not more ppg back then. It's easier now for individual players to put up inflated numbers when the defense isn't allowed to touch the offensive player at all. Imagine players like Iverson or Kobe if they played today. They're both averaging 40+.
@@elsamurai1220 Keep believing that. I'm seeing old players and old fans claiming bad defense on defense that used to be considered good just because the shots fall. And that's especially true when it comes to 3pt shots. There's a reason why stars used to take so many shots: it's because no one else could score well enough. Now almost every player can at least hit the 3, contested or not, even in motion a lot of the time. Offense is simply better because scorers are better. You can tell this is the case because when teams have poor shooting nights from 3 they still have 90-110 games like the old days. It's when the 3 is failing that teams get up to 110-127-ish. So if players were as limited as they were back then, the scoring would be the same as it was back then. Kobe and Iverson also weren't efficient enough to average 40 ppg without tanking their teams. Without a good enough 3pt shot, you have average 2k MyPlayer type 60-65+ percentage shooting to average 40 without ruining your team.
@@blanktrigger8863 Bruh, ppg are the same as it was back then. So teams scoring better now is just wrong. Also Kobe has 4 rings and Iverson took his bum team to the finals by himself and lost to Shaq and Kobe. If it wasn't for them, Iverson would be the only guard and player in NBA history to win an NBA championship by himself. Iverson also led the league in scoring 4 times and LeBron hasn't even done it once. So no, both Kobe and Iverson were efficient. But keep thinking this generation is somehow leaps and bounds better then the ones in the past when in reality it's just the same or less. This no defense era is inflating individual players numbers and hurting the integrity of the NBA in general.
I agree with Gil. At this age, anything you get from a 38yr old player should be icing on the cake for a team. HaHa, but I can judge both as I am in my 40s!!!! I no longer have jordan as GOAT, God, or even top 30- I simply grew up!!!! It took for LeBron to win the Cleveland championship AND continue to get better around the halfway point of the 2016-17 season for me to realize that he would be THE GOAT if you had to be technical and petty- meaning, I don't like a single player to be head and shoulders over the rest (I used to group the top 8-12 together, my top 8-12- Wilt, Kareem, Magic, etc....), BUT NOW, LeBron has done so much since then, it has or will soon become a clear distinction (stats, milestones, honors/rewards, awards, postseason battles as underdog and against historic teams, leadership and extended peaks) where he has a definitive, doubtless separation from any other player in league's history!!!!

And I do agree that Jordan has sped up everyone’s timeline. They gotta win a ring asap. It feels like we as fans don’t allow players to develop
We can throw the rings out, and Michael Jordan will still be the more superior player. The number show it, advanced analytic show it LeBron has never been greater in Michael Jordan so we can stop the conversation now.
Lebron been hurt on and off for the last 5 years Plus they really dont be playing defense. At least Jordan wanted to play all 82 games as a old NBA player

Gil is speaking facts - Jordan would still average 20+ today and would bust dudes (probably on great shooting splits) but the team would playing a much slower style of offense. Guys don't get 40 so often today because defenders have gotten that much worse in two decades, it's because the offensive game has exploded in pace and speed. The average possessions have gone up while average duration of possessions have gone down, the game is played so much in transition now. Young Jordan, Prime Jordan, '98 Jordan would thrive in today's league, but 38 year old Jordan had lost the stamina and durability to average 40 in today's pace after two years off.
The only reason MJ didn't average more with the Wizards is injuries and that the pace had slowed down some. Pace has actually made the game easier not harder. If these guys are such superior athletes, why hasn't the defense adjusted to the offense? Guys are barely even trying to play defense now. And if LeBron is much better and more in line with the pace of today's game, why does he rest on defense so much or walk up the court instead of running. This is now the first time pace has changed in the league.
The difference it's that at 38 LeBron still scores using every move in his repertoire because his athleticism it's still there but Mike at 38 was mainly scoring from the post and in todays NBA he could get a few buckets like that with the better spacing but you can't beat teams scoring like that all game with teams taking 35 3's per game, LeBron can still do his thing because he's still a threat in the open floor and driving to the basket which breaks the defense and creates 3pt opportunities for his teammates, a post up doesn't do any of that so MJ wouldn't be able to take 15 post shots a game with a few mid range shots to avg 30.
Iam not sure if ur retarded or not ...spacing helps players that drive and shoot midrange...not the other way around ..look at jokic he plays like a 50 year old stiff and slow ....he be destroyed bron and spacing .....old jordan would score atleast 10 more points agame
Old fans and players don't understand this, period. Jordan was averaging 30-35 before phil and pippen and couldn't get to the Finals. You can average a bunch of points by taking a bunch of shots and it'll do nothing but tank your tank your team if they're unproductive points.
This is one of Gil's best takes ever... Also I thought I was trippin when he suddenly went from a t shirt and shorts to a hoodie and sweats with no notice... hahahaha
Mike was being held together by tape and ego @ 40. You’ve gotta be on that good good to think Jordan on the wizards would’ve avg anything more than he actually did. This is so irresponsible.
Jordan was coming off the bench for a time period during that season. He couldn't keep up with those young guys for an entire season. He had to pick his moments. His biggest scoring games came against the weaker teams, like the Hornets and so forth.

During his prime years his fg percentage was around the 52-54 percent mark.

@@cdalogdog of course they have to talk about 38 and 39 because LeBron has never been better than Michael Jordan in their primes. Michael Jordan was the far superior player.
Gil says whatever to fit his narrative. He lied multiple times throughout this segment to help LBJ by doing the exact thing he claimed didn't happen to MJ. If MJ was never criticized for not having rings, where did the "Scoring champion can't win" narrative come from? Further, LBJ left CLE after losing in year 7. His first ring came in year 9 after losing the year prior in MIA in a fashion we NEVER saw from MJ. The 7 year narrative was a thing to keep LBJ on pace to pass the standard bearer at the time (MJ). It was not a moving position. It's been LBJ-stans (and his media team) that are constantly moving the goal-post which is their only way to "surpass the ghost."

The technology that has aided the enduring physical health and longevity of players was thought of in the previous era. There's a story from a player about Lebron in high school and the diet he was on, the fitness regime he undertook, and that was because of pros like Jordan doing it, and it trickling down to high school coaches and players. Dominance is what makes you goat. If you aren't who everyone is coming after year after year, how the fuck can you be the goat. For about 5 years GSW was what teams aimed to beat (not Lebron and his team). Even after lakers won that lame bubble championship, teams still did not see them as the team they needed to build a roster for. Name any 3 year period Lebron has played in where every year, his team was what others aimed to beat. That was Bulls led by Jordan ever since he got Scottie until he retired from Bulls in 98. Lebron is not the fucking goat and even the league shows you that.
Yes and no to the longevity thing. No1 else is doing what Lebron is doing longevity wise. Even his contemporarys that came in at the same time as well as later. He's now the oldest player in the league and is still great and efficient, in year 21 lol
@@leanchasersxI definitely see your point, but what I think your comparison fails to account for (and would weaken this argument immensely) is that Jordan got to the finals only 6 times in 13 playoff appearances (compare that to Lebron's 10-16) and Lebron has won rings with three completely different teams. Winning with the same formula over and over again, while still very impressive, is objectively less difficult than doing it with different teammates, coaches, and environments each time. It's not just longevity that makes Lebron so great, in fact to say that is ignoring all of what he's accomplished. Lebron was the best player in the league for over a decade, and continues to live up to the pressure and expectations that are set on him (Jordan was always the NBA's cherished star throughout and after his career).

It wasnt that bad of a team, it was impressive for sure. IMO, one of lebrons most impressive parts of his career even though the East had the lesser conference than the west during those years.
The 07-Cavs had the number one defense in the Playoffs. The 07-Cavs gave the same offensive production that 91-Bulls gave Jordan in the Playoffs. He played two injured 41 win team and 53 win team led by C.Billup. We already saw AI and Kidd do the same thing in the 00s East than Dwight did it in 09. Jordan joined a provety franchise at 38. Jordan didn't have a AD or Westbrook. Ya'll better be grateful Jordan didn't have LeBron mentality and join Dirk in Dallas like Cuban wanted.
Gil loves to talk about mentality. Just imagine roles were reversed and Jordan came in the league chasing Lebron’s records. My point is Jordan really had nothing left to prove at the end of his career and had no motivation to continue playing at an elite level. Also, training and recovery technology had massively progressed from 1985-2002 to 2003-2023.
Your right about that, bouncing from team to team trying to stack the deck and he's still not winning, 4 rings in 21 years and they still crying that he doesn't have enough help.
No team is going to sit and watch Jordan in the post today. The game is not played like that anymore, he'll mess up the teams he's on trying to play that post game.

Props to Bron for the longevity but B Jennings them are right the game is so different now we talk about Bron but look at what KD at 35 is doing look what CP3 is doing later in their career. Gil has to stop making points to fit his arguments.. you can't move the goal post bro. Also magics 1st 4 years as a 2 guard avg 7,8,9,10 assist led the team in assist 2 of his 1st 4 years in LA.
In today’s evolution of sports medicine and an era where a foul would be called for breathing on someone too hard, you’d be a total idiot to think MJ could not average 30 to 40 per game at 40 years old.
@@fresh2def23231 He definitely would NOT. MJ averaged 20ppg at 38. That doesn't jump 20 points because of a different era. That's a silly belief. MJ shot 29% from 3 point. Anyone who actually watched him knows this. It's absolutely ridiculous for anyone to think that a 38 year old averaging 20ppg in 2003 would suddenly average 40ppg at 38 years old simply because it's 2023. And on top of it all, players are more skilled in 2023 which means he's consistently getting worked on the defensive side. Again, MJ was NOT a physical freak at the age of 38. It's a ridiculous take.
Finally said what we all knew about 80's jordan. If you listen to gilbert talk, he mentioned 90's jordan and said 95 jordan after baseball 55 in the garden was boring. Basically he's just interested in the flash and fancy, you always hearing him water down past dunkers, dribblers, ect, etc. New players wouldn't have an idea of innovation if they wasn't bouncing off what the previous era's were doing. Even today most of the game is going to be regular basic basketball with a few flashy plays passes, dunks, blocks, and some wild shots here and there.
people forget how much more people got beat up at the rim years ago , LeBron wouldn’t be in the same condition if you played in the same error . if Jordan played in LeBron‘s era, side-by-side without taking time off because of his father‘s death, or I should say, murder, and without trying a new sport, there’s no way LeBron would’ve kept up with MJ.

Amazing analysis Gilbert hit the nail in the spot.
I’ve never seen so many comments that start with “I’m not a LeBron James fan, but…”
Gil is speaking facts - Jordan would still average 20+ today and would bust dudes (probably on great shooting splits) but the team would playing a much slower style of offense.
Someone with some logic.

Gil keeps it 💯 and it hurts a lot of y'all. . . . This is the BEST basketball Podcast out!
You must be on that same stuff he’s own….he said the league allowed Jordan to score but now they can’t…Kobe had 81 points in one game.. Gilbert is Disingenuous

You realize Mj was shooting 5-10× more than his next teammate? Only player ever to be like that was Iverson
People dont give Lebron credit at 21 years old carrying a ymca legend team to the NBA finals but instead they hate and bring up he got swept by a team with 3 HOFers😂😂. So at age 38 while NOBODY wondered if jordans wizards would win a championships theyll kill lebron if he doesnt win one
U act like he had bums on that team
It wasnt that bad of a team, it was impressive for sure. IMO, one of lebrons most impressive parts of his career even though the East had the lesser conference than the west during those years.
@@CC-gr7zvis the east lesser now?
The 07-Cavs had the number one defense in the Playoffs. The 07-Cavs gave the same offensive production that 91-Bulls gave Jordan in the Playoffs. He played two injured 41 win team and 53 win team led by C.Billup. We already saw AI and Kidd do the same thing in the 00s East than Dwight did it in 09.
Jordan joined a provety franchise at 38. Jordan didn't have a AD or Westbrook. Ya'll better be grateful Jordan didn't have LeBron mentality and join Dirk in Dallas like Cuban wanted.
Yes, they are. But what’s the point?
Jordan legit looked his age with the wizards
Gil loves to talk about mentality. Just imagine roles were reversed and Jordan came in the league chasing Lebron’s records. My point is Jordan really had nothing left to prove at the end of his career and had no motivation to continue playing at an elite level. Also, training and recovery technology had massively progressed from 1985-2002 to 2003-2023.
He could've chased all he wanted to but there's a reason he retired after 5 deep playoff runs. So that's a moot point.
It wouldn't matter of he had the motivation or not. If jordan could've played that good at that age he would've. U jordan fans love hypotheticals
Say it louder 🎉
That's a lie. Joker and LeBron don't go to the post? Embiid dosent post up? Post is also used to get off ball action, it dosent have to be just for scoring.
@@sideshowbobsaget8876 Joker goes in the post naturally because he's 7ft. Goofy. And the post is neither of their bread and butter. The post is Jordan's bread and butter and he's going to post up and try to get his fadeaway 80 percent of the time, no SG in today's game would survive playing a post game. You have to be able to move around and shoot 3s at a high clip. Like Gil said 80s Jordan would do his thing but not 90s Jordan even though 80s Jordan didn't shoot 3s he couldn't be guarded.
@@yoursportsnow9729 Jordan is one of the GOAT post players, no Coach isn't going to exploit that. Jordan was also the Bull best post player and played in the triangle. Jordan was never in the post 80% of the time. Where are you getting this from? Jordan was an elite passer, playmaker, slasher, off-ball, catch and shoot, etc. Jordan was never reliant on one thing. Jordan mastered the game. Booker, DeMar, Jimmy, etc. And none of those dudes compare to 90s Jordan.
@@yoursportsnow9729the post wasn’t jordan bread and butter 🤡 he has 10 scoring titles and has the highest ppg in the regular season playoffs and finals which means he gets buckets from all around the court 🤡 Man U kids today are dumbbb as hell
Like flopping, pretending to be a social justice "activist," needing days off, wearing a "case" after losing the finals, whine about injuries, recruiting hall of famer players, etc? Yeah, MJ would never dream of doing those things.
Saying Jordan can average buckets in today's game is like saying everyone on the couch can still ball. They still in they 30s so they can potentially still put up buckets. The only reason Jordan at forty cnt play today is because pace. He is not gaurding ya best pg he's not guarding no sg he not running through screens. He'll give you moments but not many buckets
You dont think jordan would get in the gym and get conditioned to be able to keep up with todays players. Come on now. Mike's accolades out weighs lebrons. Only reason why lebron is still playing is to surpass jordan as far as championships. But look how long its taking. And if he does surpass jordan, in rings jordan is still the king. Hands down. You guys are younger so you are going to cater to lebron. They both are great in their own right, but lebron will never be the goat over jordan. Jordan changed the game, they started the small ball. Just imagine if jordan was shooting 3's back then everytime he touched the rock.
@@debragipson9167 all I'm saying he not gone be as fast as these players now. He not getting to his spots like that. All the conditioning in the world is not gone have Jordan outrunning these young cats. Look how he was on wizards. His conditioning and muscle memory had his game looking like a great player but we all know Jordan is more then that . Like I said he gone have his moments. I give you Carmelo on the OKC type scoring.. he not gone "iso joe" the game... yes Jordan got shit ton of accolades but that's not gone compete with father time. Shit is etched in stone he not going no where.. but at 40 right now he be good for ice cube big 3 and he would dominate that shit he might even learn the half court shot
@@LeoSmit-r6nYes he is. Tyler herro is putting up what? Jimmy butler led the Heat to the Finals multiple times. Wizards Jordan simply didn't let he knee heal properly and it caught up to him. It's much harder to play in a slower and more physical Era. Most player rather play a uptempo game.
Jordan was cooking Kobe, McGrady, Vince, Marion, KG, etc. The game has literally been made easier. The commissioner has already mentioned this.

It isn’t just 6 rings. It’s a double 3-peat and the second was after retiring after two years. And 38-39 yr old Jordan was after a 3 year retirement. Saying Jordan would average 40 at age 38/39 is insane. Next level glazing.
Dude averaged 23/20 he himself know he regressed even during those 2 years, he ain't blowing by anyone like BEFORE anymore.
Imagine him having to post up the freakishly long and strong wing defenders now, spamming pump fakes for points?
It's actually insane how much people downplay defense these days, YES the scoring went up and YES it isn't as physical as before but that doesn't mean it's WAY easier... It's definitely a lot smarter, defense and offense are both more fluid hence it looks "easier". You cut out a lot of the "showmanship" just to be more efficient and conserve energy.

Props to Bron for the longevity but B Jennings them are right the game is so different now we talk about Bron but look at what KD at 35 is doing look what CP3 is doing later in their career. In today’s evolution of sports medicine and an era where a foul would be called for breathing on someone too hard, you’d be a total idiot to think MJ could not average 30 to 40 per game at 40 years old.
Jordan in todays game not averaging 40 at 38 fuck what Jennings talking bout
MJ is NOT averaging 40ppg in todays era at 38. Jennings is ridiculous.
Cap he definitely would
Dick eaters think a cigar smoking drunk would average 40 at damn near 40 cause he was fire wen he was in his late 20s. Shit sad
@@fresh2def23231 He definitely would NOT. MJ averaged 20ppg at 38. That doesn't jump 20 points because of a different era. That's a silly belief. MJ shot 29% from 3 point. MJ shot 44% from the field which is one of his lowest of his career. This was all while averaging 37mpg, with bad knees. MJ at 38 was NOT a physical specimen as he was in his early years.
Kareem averaged 22/8/4 with 2 blocks a game at 38 he would average similar to bron in this era
He averaged that at 37
people forget how much more people got beat up at the rim years ago , LeBron wouldn’t be in the same condition if you played in the same error . if Jordan played in LeBron‘s era, side-by-side without taking time off because of his father‘s death, or I should say, murder, and without trying a new sport, there’s no way LeBron would’ve kept up with MJ.
