@@blackscorpion-h8i yeah, I have that reaction to DP a lot, too. Having everything all right there together makes a big difference sometimes. And, as much as I love Dynasty, I just can't imagine any of it on that compilation.
Creatures of the Night is a top 5 album because the reverb adds a heavy unique ambience. I thought there my be something wrong with my record player when I first heard it. But it sounded great! Saint and Sinner wouldn't be nearly as good without this incredible use of reverb! The album is original due to the extraordinary production and raises it up about 10 places in the hierarchy.

KISS Rankings: Let me preface this album ranking with the usual qualifiers: •My top seven are etched in stone, never to be redshifted. •I probably like the albums I’ve got ranked at the bottom a little more than it sounds. I may dislike a few things from the top of my list a little more than what it sounds. These are my words and I’m sticking to them. -------- 1 } Rock And Roll Over-An album that defines a generation. Combined with a producer that understands KISS better than the band does? True dat. 2} Hotter than Hell-It’s unfair really. My introduction to KISS. My older brother put it on the turntable when I was five and it was over from there. Some very clever songwriting in addition to my anthem LMGR&R 3} Creatures Of The Night- An album to be played when leveling buildings. The only stoplight is ISLY. Not the masterpiece Paul thinks it is. 4} KISS- More staples than an Office Depot. A timeless record that sees through the careless(?) production and interference from the Big Honcho. 5} Lick It Up- A shameless LP from the now maskless foursome. I can”t play FLAG without playing it again. And then again. The rest is just as sweet. 6} Destroyer- Not truly as heralded for me as some others. Undeniable classics sprinkled with a few misfires. FY, DRC, KOTNW, SIOL, DYLM?, and GOT are immediate winners with Ezzy’s thoughtfulness. 7} Dressed To Kill- Short and concise with just one dull moment with LIW. Sorry Gene, this is the one zit on an otherwise delicious platter. 8} Music From The Elder- KISS loses their paper atlas in their musical direction. But what a wonderful drive through the Shire! Many poignant tracks and Ace makes sure the evil dragon doesn’t kill the album totally. 9} Revenge- A bad habit that’s good, good, good! Not Paul’s shining moment but he does enough to keep the tracks going. Gene tows the line. 10} Love Gun- Heartbreaking this doesn’t rank higher but KISS at this junction of their career could take a shit and it would turn into 24-karat gold. And it reflects the chances they took on this album. The TSKM cover is pure pap. But hell, the album is still pure KISS fun. 11} Animalize- The lynchpin between the refocused KISS and the trendy KISS we’d see in the latter 80’s. BBB, HOF and for me, GAYCT works even despite Paul sucking helium from balloons before his vocal track. 12} Dynasty- A very confused musical landscape is too convenient an excuse for Dynasty’s inconsistency. There’s good stuff for sure, but it’s not the KISS I grew up with. Ace shines on 2KM. Gene kinda makes an Arby’s run. Though XRE is catchy. 13} Unmasked- So much gloss that the record needle slips off the vinyl. The saving principle is that the ones I like and have grown on me (Shandi, TTM, TSOTC, ITY, TG and Tomorrow) and is unapologetically bubblegum. YATIW is good too. The rest is unforgivable cheese 14} Asylum- KOTM, TAF, WWTBL rise above the rest of this pastel-laden work. 15} Hot In The Shade- Addition by subtraction. Forever, LC, HYH are keepers. Sift between any 7 left to keep the album at 10 for posterity. LEFT SHIFT+DELETE the rest and deny their existence. 16} Psycho Circus- An overcalculated foray. No organic flow despite great moments. WAO, Within, PC, ITV are listenable. They aren’t spectacular either. The rest is heat-lumped fodder that we Army vets are expected to rally around. 17} Carnival Of Souls-Hmm. I want to like this more. CE has (to me) some deliciously macabre lyrics and a sharp hook to boot. IWBT is competent as well as IMH. It’s been said numerous times before, but this is just not their wheelhouse. 18} Crazy Nights- A slick album cover disguises bargain bin 80s synth rock sing-alongs. KISS tries too hard to play catch-up. 19}Monster- I try really hard to push this boulder of an album higher up the cliff but it just keeps falling. Some good moments but there is just no meat in this marinara. 20}Sonic Boom- this is a caricature of KISS only with the real members. Something had to be on the bottom.
Dirty Livin'? I never would have thought you'd say that. Really surprised me for sure. Myself, I love the song. Good video, great insights, interesting viewpoints... I'm really enjoying it. ✌👍

I think Flaming Youth is underrated. It sums up how we felt about authority figures in our lives. And the funky circus pipes give it that strange vibe that’s strange enough to be cool. I think you should do a video on which is better Alive 1 or Alive 2. Two very different Animals. Alive 1 they are hungry and Alive 2 they are at their peak. They mayhem as Shout it out loud starts is breathtaking
YES! I totally agree with you on Flaming Youth! Well said! Hmmm. I really like that idea! Love them both, obviously. But definitely two VERY different animals, as you put it. Thanks for the suggestion!
Did u realize that when talking about Dressed to Kill u called Rock n Roll All Nite "Rock n Roll Over" 2x? and I agree with u: I dont ever wanna hear that song again..
Another interesting and excellent list! Dressed to Kill is my all time favorite, so kudos to you for having it at number two. Most lists I have seen have it between six and ten, with a couple having it as low as the high teens. A true outrage!🙃 Here's my list, according to how I feel in this moment. 20. Sonic Boom 19. Unmasked 18. Music From The Elder 17. Monster 16. Crazy Nights 15. Asylum 14. Hot in the Shade 13. Carnival of Souls 12. Animalize 11. Dynasty 10. Psycho Circus 9. Lick it Up 8. Revenge 7. Love Gun 6. Creatures of the Night 5. Destroyer 4. Rock and Roll Over 3. Hotter Than Hell 2. Kiss 1. Dressed to Kill Number one and two are interchangeable on any given day.
lol. Watching your Kiss Ranking Playlist for the 3rd time again. Love watching those stuff. And love every time you are taking a shit on Sonic Boom. Haha
We r the same age. Appreciate ur opinions we r close on some. Like the way u explained the way u felt. People today seem to have forgotten how to do that. Thanks again. Look forward to seeing your next one!
We are apparently the same age, and got into KISS the same time. My list is vastly differently than yours(other than Dressed to Kill at #2), but I enjoyed your video and hearing your perspectives on the records. Thanks!
Loving your content brother. It's like a breath fresh air; a little normalcy these days. Dig your list and take and your reasoning of why/ what you love/ hate about each one; solid stuff. I find myself agreeing with you for the most part. My favorite quote on this vid: ['Rock and Roll All Nite'] "Just give it a rest guys, gosh..." Haha! Nice. 👍
The first time I heard KISS and was getting into music seriously back in '77 as a 12/13 year old, KISS - Alive! really blew me away. I heard it and lots of over bands through a few older friends. Over the years I became a real KISS nut! They could do no wrong and because I love all generes of music I liked all the ventures into new music territory they decided to try out. However in my mid-twenties I met some new people and friends who intruduced me to a whole new world of music, and I'm talking about more extreme Metal. Well, I'm 56 now and have heard litarally thounds and thousands of different artists and bands from basically all generes and so I've learned and trained my ears to know what is good and what is not so good. Looking back now and with a different view of the music world and what went on in the KISS camp, I came to realize that for me the band started to go downhill after Animalize... All the feuds that the band (Gene and Paul) got into have just been so painful with no respect whatsoever for ex-members and fans in general. With G€n€ only interested in $$$ and Paul not standing up to him, KISS lost me... I have all there albums but do not love like I used to, although I suppose they still remain in my top 10 bands for all they did and do for me up to Animalize... Having said that here is my top 12: 1 - KISS 2 - Rock And Roll Over 3 - Creatures Of The Night 4 - Music From The Elder 5 - Destroyer 6 - Hotter Than Hell 7 - Dynasty 8 - Love Gun 9 - Dressed To Kill 10 - Lick It Up 11 - Animalize 12 - Unmasked
Solid list! And I totally get what you mean about the post-Animalize era (although, for many fans, Revenge was a welcome addition to the catalog). I really appreciate your comment and the list, Jon! Welcome to the channel!
@@HARDROCKreverie I did really enjoy Revenge when in came out but looking at it now, there are a few good things on that album, however the cheesy infantile lyrics totally ruin the album for me. You are most welcome and really enjoyed your video, ranking and explanations.
Love your blunt & honest opioins, can't say I agree with all of them, but that's what makes it interesting. You made me laugh out loud when after talking about Eric Singer and the guy that plays Ace Frehley you say; "change up the F**king live set list while you're at it for god sake". I don't often hear this sort of honesty when viewing fan videos of this nature, because most fans don't seem to have the ability to be subjective, I used to be one of them when I was young. Was interesting to hear your thoughts on "Creatures" too. I'm looking forward to hearing your review on the '78 solo albums, next on my list of TH-cam things to watch.
Great video. I agree about Hot in the Shade completely, should be a 9-10 song album. Revised Track List should be 1: Rise to It 2: Betrayed 3: Hide Your Heart 4: Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell 5: The Street Giveth and the Street Taketh Away 6: King of Hearts 7: Silver Spoon 8: Little Caesar 9: Boomerang 10: Forever
I disagree with a few spots here. Creatures will always be in a top 5 for me. My list would change by the month. Even my number 2 or 3 would change from Destroyer and Lick It Up. Revenge is my favorite studio album. Then what I am feeling for 2 or 3.
Yeah, I can't blame you for not agreeing, Creatures IS great, I love it, too. The reverb thing just annoys me. Otherwise it sounds like we have a good deal in common - Revenge, Destroyer, Lick It Up.
I also grew up with Kiss. I can honestly agree and love those songs you mentioned, A million to one, Mr Speed, etc. Also the ones you don't like, Baby Driver, Hooligan, damn I can really relate! Maybe the debut was ranked a bit low, but besides that, excellent rankings!
Catching up with this. I have watched all of your individual album reviews. Great stuff 👍. Just recently I watched a host , with a show called Bryce metal, do his Top 20 KISS Album ranking. He only did studio albums. He had Love Gun at 5, Crazy Nights at 3, Lick it Up at 2 and Asylum as 1. He had the Elder at 20. I think he is about half our age and he is a guitar player who believes, and rightfully so, that Bruce was the best player (lead) in the band. Thanks again Dave. My favorite, at age 54 now, is Love Gun. My least favorite - Crazy Nights. Worst song on Sonic Turd - Russian Roulette.
I'm familiar with Bryce, too. Good stuff. This was my first KISS video, basically. If you've already watched the individual reviews, did you also see the ranking video I did after those? That ranking was a bit different than this first one. I appreciate you watching me ramble! Lol
Thanks for putting this out there. Modern Day Delilah is brilliant. I totally agree with you. Eric Singer and Tommy should never have began wearing the makeup of Ace and Peter. My least favorite song on Sonic Boom is Russian Roulette.
Yeah, just a lot of stuffing on that album, in my opinion. It really is too bad, because they had a couple of worthwhile tunes. Thanks for watching, Jon!
In case you think I'm being critical, I'm not. Just opinions. I LOVE how much detail your putting into each record. And I agree, Psycho Circus is mostly really cool. I don't get the hate.
good list! I appreciate your thoughts on the kiss catalog, I like and dislike songs and albums for similar reasons as you, not that I’d place them in the same spot, but we all love and dislike what we do. Thanks again for doing this.
Rock and roll over and Dressed to kill is my favorite albums but i dont have Destroyer that high....I think Destroyer is overall a solid album but it had fillers ! Sweet pain and Beth and flaming youth is just little boring... And i dont have any boring tracks on Rock and roll over...
1. Destroyer 2. Hotter Than Hell 3. KISS 4. Dressed to Kill 5. Creatures of The Night 6. Dynasty 7. Rock and Roll Over 8. Music from The Elder 9. Love Gun 10. Lick It Up 11. Psycho Circus 12. Carnival of Souls 13. Revenge 14. Animalize 15. Unmasked 16. Monster 17. Sonic Boom 18. Asylum 19. Hot In The Shade 20. Crazy Nights
@@williamdeluca901 Right? If Creatures had the same production as Lick It Up or Revenge, you couldn't touch it. Thanks for watching and for the comments!
yeah ur gonna get some hate over Love Gun being #12 I actually like every song on that album- even Then She Kissed Me Our comparative lists are taking opposite turns lol It's crazy how ppl can hate a song n someone else loves it. I absolutely love Got Love for Sale. It's a hidden gem to me. I've always loved the line and the backgrounds vocals of "Have love, will travel" I love that.. love the back n forth of gene n paul: whoa no (whoa no) whoa no (whoa no).. and Peter n Ace rock on it.. My 2 cents :) I like Hooligan too: "my momma said I'm a black sheep; my baby says I'm a creep.." It aint the greatest song, but I like the groove and gene n pauls background vocals.. and its a classic Ace style solo
Dressed to Kill has some great catchy tunes, but the sound is thin. RNRO has some clunkers, but it sounds good. Give DTK RNRO's sound and it'd be my favorite album.
Really? I'd say the songs on rock and roll over are leagues better, the songs I like on dressed are cmon and love me, she, love her all I can and rock and roll all night. Rock and roll over theres no songs I dislike on that all album. Not bashing your opinion I just find it really interesting. I also think dressed to kill sounds pretty good, much better than the first 2 albums
@@canadianlightbulbs I wrestle with RARO. Hard Luck Woman, See You in Your Dreams, Baby Driver and Makin Love are songs I don't like much. The only song I don't like on DTK is Two Timer. But ask me tomorrow and I'll tell you the opposite.
hey man i was at that tulsa november 1987 show expo arena tulsa with white lion opening. i was in 7th grade. drove from arkansas to see it. my first big concert
@@HARDROCKreverie I’ll tell you what: between my burgeoning work schedule, and my wife LOL I’ll try and put together a list Wednesday morning. And since this is a studio album only list, it won’t interfere with my project that I am going to be putting up on YT whenever I get a chance to complete it. Unfortunately I am a highly visual person 😎
I think my least favorite to favorite would probably go like this 20. Unmasked 19. Monster 18. Asylum 17.Sonic Boom 16. Crazy Nights 15. Animalize 14. Hot in the Shade 13. Music from the Elder 12. Dynasty 11. Carnival of Souls 10. Psycho Circus 9. Lick it Up 8. Dressed to Kill 7. Hotter than Hell 6. KISS 5. Love Gun 4. Creatures of the Night 3. Revenge 2. Rock n Roll Over 1. Destroyer Its okay we don't agree songs hit people a different way. Thanks for sharing your list.
I agree. I think the band sounds pretty great with Tommy and Eric. And clearly you're a fan of this lineup, which is great for you! That makes me happy! But it doesn't mean I have to feel the same to have a worthwhile opinion. I don't care for Sonic Boom because I think they are capable of SO much more. Either way, thanks for watching.
Your selection is very typical of the early era Kiss fans. But the best songs came about once the makeup was removed. It's a time when Pauls voice was at its most mature and Kiss were very hungry for a another bite at big success. But that only happened once they brought Ace & Peter back. The album Unmasked is an incredible pop rock album. Between Dynasty & Unmasked it brought a whole new audience to Kiss.
damn, I cant believe u dont like Baby Driver... Listen to the tone of those rhythm chords... Maybe I'm partial to it because I'm a concrete truck driver and I'm always "carrying such a heavy load", idk lol I was in construction hauling heavy shit too prior.. But those rhythm chords are powerful n perfect Gene's background vocals are cool too
Good stuff. I noticed that you declined to include the ‘78 solo albums, and I think that is fair since they are solo albums. I wouldn’t mind a little sidebar on a ranking of those four and a ranking of the official live releases. Anyway, my list would be: 20. Monster 19. Sonic Boom 18. HITS 17. Crazy Nights 16. Psycho Circus 15. Revenge 14. Animalize 13. Unmasked 12. Asylum 11. Music From The Elder 10. Creatures 9. Carnival of Souls 8. Lick It Up 7. Dynasty 6. Love Gun 5. Kiss 4. Destroyer 3. Hotter Than Hell 2. Rock And Roll Over 1. Dressed To Kill I feel the same way about Monster that you feel about SB.
Great list, Jeff! As a matter of fact, I'm well on my way through the individual album reviews on the channel right now, including the '78 solo albums! Thanks for the comments and for watching! Hope to hear from you again on those other videos!
'Without all that fucking reverb'..... I love the venom you said that with. Lick and Creatures are both great imo, but Lick showed that they had to remove the makeup.
Crazy Nights was Ron Nevison's work. He's known for a sound that also dated the bands who used him to produce their records. It was popular for a very short time. But CN's syrupy-sweet keyboard-layered backing tracks made them sound like Heart more than KISS. I like the songs. But hate the production. ✌
Hello from Melbourne Australia. My favorite Kiss albums best to worst: 1 Destroyer 2. KISS 3. Creatures of the Night 4. Revenge 5. Hotter than hell 6. Sonic boom 7. Unmasked 8. Dynasty 9. Love gun 10. Lick it up 11. Hot in the shade 12. Rock n roll over 13. Dressed to kill 14. Music from the elder 15. Crazy nights 16. Carnival of souls 17. Animalize 18. Asylum 19. Psycho circus 20 Monster
Thanks so much for your list. I'm 10 years older than you, so I started Kiss in 74. Two positive notes. I TOTALLY agree with your placement of Revenge, and Baby Driver!! Thank you SO much! I hated that song the moment I heard it.
I liked Animalize a lot more at the time. It just hasn't aged for me as well. Of course gene checked out from here and years on, and he often had my favorite tunes. I did not care for the Mark St John shredding. Do I love shredding? Yes. I'm about your age, and as time has gone on, I've gotten into progressively more extreme metal(while also simultaneously going back in time for mellower, trippier things). But I don't really wanna hear that kind of shredding from Kiss. Bruce's style I liked better. I LOVE those solos and live clips of Vinny doing Dr Love, War Machine, etc.
Yeah, I'm not much of a "shred" guy, usually. I tend to like a little more melody and tastier phrasing in my guitarists. But I definitely still appreciate some faster playing. Randy was my guy. But Ace had a big head-start on all those guys, for me. I think Bruce is absolutely fantastic, and I wish they'd hired him right after Ace.
Pffft. Unmasked is way better than Psycho Circus. Who doesn’t love some torpedo girl. That said Creatures is awesome and i think the thing you hate is likely that quintessential 80’s rock sound ; the band following the flavor of the era always seemed to bite them a bit. But creatures was superb. It held its own against the like of Iron Maiden and AcDc at the time.
This is where I agree more with a commenter, than the publisher good call, I mean I love this ranking and his raw attitude and opinions However *Creatures is in a league of its own and can definitely hold up against the top tier rockers of that era!*
I'm glad to see LIU at #4 good job bro. I agree.. It's a really good album and far better than Creatures Hard to beat the song writing of V V with Paul n Gene .. Vinnie is way better than desmond child imo
I'll put my ranking up in a bit. Everyone can do what they want, but personally I rank them almost entirely on the sonf quality. Unless the production is pure ass that ruins the tune, then it doesn't dimish the songs for me. But hey, to each his own.
Great list don`t agree with you on some but do agree on lick it up and dress to kill. but for me dynasty would be a lot higher and revenge would be lower. you are dead on with sonic boom and monster
Yes, and I know other producers have used that little trick really successfully to give a song and/or album more depth and texture, but it really doesn't work here for some reason. At least for me. Something about the way it's sitting in the mix. Thanks for watching!
I think the back side of Asylum should've been the front... I hate that album cover... And to me, Asylum was KISS' last solid album, and Kulick actually impresses me for the first and LAST time on Asylum
*Great KISS ranking However, you just ripped through the last 5 albums like a ''hot fart'' through a pair of vintage Levi's!! lol ha-ha. P.S I agree with 90% of your listing/ranking yet ''Creatures of the Night would be in the top 3 for meeeeee !!*
my list: For me, a good album is how well I can put the needle on song 1 and go all the way to the end without getting tired of it. How good an individual song is helps, but if getting through the album feels like a chore to the point where I'm skipping tracks, then the album ranks lower. 20 - Hot in the Shade. - a few good songs, but too many filler songs. A chore to finish. Agree should have been around 10 songs. Ace coming out with a killer album that year showing Paul and Gene how it's done certainly didn't help either. 19 - Animalize. Some great Paul songs but mostly stinkers from Gene. Also the sound production was bad. Too much treble and mixed low. Also seems to be missing a song, one that would have closed the album out well especially getting us through the wasteland of crappy Gene songs at the end. 18 - Sonic Boom. Not bad, but very "paint by numbers" song writing and playing. A wasted opportunity to really showcase Eric and Tommy. Modern Day Delilah however is awesome but all the rest is just "meh". 17 - Monster. What I love about this album is it has the energy of a first album. The kind of energy a band has when they debut and are hungry to get noticed. I really respect KISS for doing an album like this at a point in their career where other bands say "F it, no more new albums. Let's just play the stuff we did back in our 20s and coast." Like many of the songs, but not a fan of Eric's. Casually sings about of adultery. Not cool. Kids are hurt by that. Add to this, Freak is a chore to get through and the volume and thickness of the sound taxes the ears. It is this reason, the album is 17. 16 - Carnival of Souls. Oh man, some of KISS's BEST material is on this album. This is KISS at the height of talent. Unfortunately, some of KISS's worst songs too. Rarely finish the album without skipping tracks. Favorite thing about this album is Union did songs from this album extremely well live. 15 - KISS. Songs are slow and lethargic. Kissing Time is the only good song. Love Theme has some cool bass licks, but the rest is boring versions of these songs. I guess your maiden voyage will have mistakes which become learning examples later. 14 - Crazy Nights. Fun album. The sound production is a step up from the other 80s albums as well as the videos. However, they lost their hard edge with this one. 13 - Dynasty. Pretty much ties with Crazy Nights but ecks out to 13 because it came out at a great time. We had that long pause for fresh new KISS albums after Alive II. This album told us KISS was back. Great drums too. 12 - Love Gun. Yeah agree with you. The sound is thin. A few fillers too. 11 - Hotter than Hell. Great classic album. Some of Peter's best playing. But Goin Blind is a snooze-fest. Brings the whole album to a screeching halt. 10 - Creatures of the Night. Incredible album. One of their best sounding albums. Love the in your face drums and bass. Gene's voice is super awesome. Saint n Sinner goes on a few minutes too long though. 9 - Psycho Circus. Agree, very high quality sound. When the album ends, I'm wanting more. Would be higher on the list, except it was supposed to be the original four back in action...instead we were jipped. 8 - Dressed to Kill. Starts out great, side two just didn't gel with me well. Like Love Gun, just a bit thin on sound. Love the Alive versions so much better. 7 - Unmasked. Yeah seems a bit high on the list, but I absolutely love playing this album front to back while on my drum kit. The Anton fills make the album. So fun to play along. When not drumming along however, I bit of a chore to get through with She's So European and Easy at it Seems. 7b - KISS Alive II side 4. aka...the forgotten classic KISS album. Incredibly awesome songs. All American Man should have been played in concert and was disappointed Rocket Ride didn't make the set list when Ace returned in the 90s. Larger than life has great drum tones and bass. Would be higher but the Dave Clark Five ending brings it down. 6 - Lick it Up. Hated the album at first. Wasn't ready for the cursing and over sex'd innuendos as I was still young and in my "Unmasked" vibe. However, by high school, this album was super great. Almost as good as Asylum, but Dance all over your face is brings it down a hair in comparison. 5 - Asylum. Great Album front to back. Mowed sooooo many lawns and play hours of Ms Pacman with this cassette in my walkman. Probably listened to it twice daily back in the mid 80s. 4 - Elder. Yep I'm an Elder fan. This album doesn't have good songs and the production is the worse ever. But the songs flow together so well. Put the album on and drift away inside your imagination to your own personal version of the movie. Everyone's got their own script. 3 - Revenge. Some of Gene's best songs. Quality sound. Every song works for me and the order flows well. Ezrin is vindicated and Bruce kicks ass! Finishes with great Carr solo. 2 - Destroyer. Such an eclectic variety of songs that just click together like pieces of a puzzle. So easy to listen to start to finish and wanting more. 1 - Rock n Roll Over. All killer no filler. The ultimate KISS album. Kramer was the 5th member of the band.
@@HARDROCKreverie thanks for the nice comment! When I started your video and noticed it would be an hour, I groaned. But you actually kept me hooked the whole time. Liked your explanations/justifications so much that it inspired me to do the same.
The quality of the songs they wrote without "outside writers" on "Sonic Boom" and "Monster" makes me imagine that those great tunes from the 80´s and 90´s had everything to do with Vinnie Vincent, Desmond Child, Bryan Adams, Jean Beauvoir, Holly Knight, etc rather than Paul or Gene. Most of the new songs from those two last albums are "cut and paiste" from their classics in the 70´s plus Tommy Thayer played solos trying to sound as if Ace Frehley had recorded them. Kiss has been a huge disappointment to me from then on.
For a guy who said this was just your opinion, I heard a few “I don’t care what you think, you’d be wrong” kind of statements! And with that in mind, let me enlighten you! Now, these are my opinions, but you are wrong if you disagree. :). So let’s be clear, there is no way “The Final Sessions” is better than “Love Gun.” And to suggest “Lick It Up” is better than “Creatures” is truly blasphemous! The filler on “LIU” is extensive. All Hell’s Breaking Loose” is just silly. “I am cool, I am the breeze…” That’s just not good. Dance All Over and The 8th Day are ok at best. Elsewhere, Hooligan and Baby Driver are kick ass tunes. The Elder was way too low on your list. Revenge was too high. There were many other concerning statements but I enjoyed the list and you made many good points. I’ll keep watching. Enjoy!
I'm pretty sure most people are able to see that statements like that are only made in jest in my videos. If you haven't seen many of them, I'm rarely too serious. In fact, I think you'd have to admit, as my "Hard Rock and Metal membership card" hasn't been revoked yet, the Metal gods haven't been too offended by my so-called blasphemy. Lol Thanks for watching AND for your opinions, Nimzy!

The Elder 8. Hotter Than Hell 7. Dynasty 6. Love Gun 5. Lick it Up 4. Rock and Roll Over 3. KISS 2. Dressed to Kill 1. Creatures of the Night
The original album is by far the best!! The first 3 albums amazing, they didn't sell well, until Alive made them famous, but truly made you appreciate the early stuff!!! I mean Black Diamond, Strutter, Deuce, Cold Gin, and more!!! Their best damn live performances always were Black Diamond!!!! Peter and Ace shined like a mother fucker!!!
A little extra? Are you kidding me?? Mountains is more like it. It sounds to me like you're defending Creatures. In which case you should be happy, because so am I, or I wouldn't care that they buried all those GREAT songs with that crap. As for comparing HTH and Creatures: 1974, second album--don't really know any better, record company ordered producers, and despite all that managed to help inspire another entire genre of heavy music...vs. tenth KISS studio album, a LOT more say in how things are done, 1982, so post-VH1, so no real excuse for not knowing what an album CAN sound like, and you know your career is on the line and you let those fantastic songs be covered up with so much reverb that whole sections are nearly indistinguishable. If you listen to the '97 remaster of Creatures (as I say in another video), it sounds more like Lick It Up's production--so, basically Creatures without a mountain of reverb on top of it--and I think it's absolutely fabulous. But yeah, I still love the sound of HTH, and I won't apologize.
@@HARDROCKreverieAs much as i LOVE the music on HTH, Kenny Kerner and Richie Wise should have been ashamed of what they did to it. I find the reverb on Creatures to be FAR less upsetting. I understand what you are saying about the points in their career but it doesn't change what Kerner and Wise did to those great songs.
@@scottmacalino656 believe me, I'm not going to be caught defending Kerner and Wise on much of anything. I agree with you that their production on those first two albums is pretty atrocious. That said, though, I 'd STILL rather listen to either of those than that original master of Creatures. I don't hate it, but like you said about HTH, it's just such "a shame" that someone thought it would be better if it sounded like they were playing at the bottom of the freaking Grand Canyon. I guess for me, the difference is that HTH has a certain character and holds a certain charm, while I just find Creatures annoying. But hey, I appreciate your comments, Scott! And your passion!!
ur math doesnt add up: u said u were a fan since u were 6 in 1976.. Then u said u were 15 when Asylum came out n u bought it on casstte.. Makes no sense at all.. But I enjoy ur list; the first 5 or so I agree with 100. I havent gotten to rest yet
@@MondoMiami Dude, I still don't know where the disconnect is, but yes... 9+6 = 15. I was born in '70. I turned 6 in '76. I also turned 15 in '85. My birthday isn't January 1st, however, so math is indeed involved. What's the problem? lol

KISS Rankings:
Let me preface this album ranking with the usual qualifiers:
•My top seven are etched in stone, never to be redshifted.
•I probably like the albums I’ve got ranked at the bottom a little more than it sounds. I may dislike a few things from the top of my list a little more than what it sounds. These are my words and I’m sticking to them.
--------
1 } Rock And Roll Over-An album that defines a generation. Combined with a producer that understands KISS better than the band does? True dat.
2} Hotter than Hell-It’s unfair really. My introduction to KISS. My older brother put it on the turntable when I was five and it was over from there. Some very clever songwriting in addition to my anthem LMGR&R
3} Creatures Of The Night- An album to be played when leveling buildings.
The rest is unforgivable cheese
14} Asylum- KOTM, TAF, WWTBL rise above the rest of this pastel-laden work.
Terrific list! As you said, we don't always agree on everything, but we have some of the really important stuff in common. Thanks for sharing!

@@user-en6yl8tj5j Sorry! I would put Sonic boom between Elder and Dynasty!

Having said that here is my top 12:
1 - KISS
2 - Rock And Roll Over
3 - Creatures Of The Night
4 - Music From The Elder
5 - Destroyer
6 - Hotter Than Hell
7 - Dynasty
8 - Love Gun
9 - Dressed To Kill
10 - Lick It Up
11 - Animalize
12 - Unmasked

A conversation..exactly! Very cool..
I wish someone would do a countdown of White Lion. That is a 80's band that now seems forgotten.
LOL!!!
Thanks for watching, Greg!

It's crazy how ppl can hate a song n someone else loves it. I absolutely love Got Love for Sale. It's a hidden gem to me. Unfortunately I am a highly visual person 😎
@@wolfsb4ne sounds great 👍
I think my least favorite to favorite would probably go like this
20. Unmasked
19. Monster
18. Asylum
17.Sonic Boom
16. Crazy Nights
15. Animalize
14. Hot in the Shade
13. Music from the Elder
12. Dynasty
11. Carnival of Souls
10. Psycho Circus
9. Lick it Up
8. Dressed to Kill
7. Hotter than Hell
6. KISS
5. Love Gun
4. Creatures of the Night
3. Revenge
2. Rock n Roll Over
1. Destroyer
Its okay we don't agree songs hit people a different way. Thanks for sharing your list.
Nice list! Our top 10 may be in a different order, but they're pretty similar albums.
Thanks for sharing yours!
I think people listen to sonic boom and monster with there eyes..bc its Tommy and eric ,but the bands has never been tighter..
Every Kiss album got a bunch of good cuts 😍😎
Your selection is very typical of the early era Kiss fans. But the best songs came about once the makeup was removed. It's a time when Pauls voice was at its most mature and Kiss were very hungry for a another bite at big success. But that only happened once they brought Ace & Peter back. The album Unmasked is an incredible pop rock album. Between Dynasty & Unmasked it brought a whole new audience to Kiss.
Sonic Turd vinyl is one of the most expensive KISS albums to buy.
Hahaha! Yeah, I've noticed that the vinyl that's too expensive to buy happens to be the albums most people don't want. Oh the irony!
I totally agree w you on the 2 worst in the same order
damn, I cant believe u dont like Baby Driver... Listen to the tone of those rhythm chords... Maybe I'm partial to it because I'm a concrete truck driver and I'm always "carrying such a heavy load", idk lol I was in construction hauling heavy shit too prior.. But those rhythm chords are powerful n perfect
Gene's background vocals are cool too
He puts down every Peter song
Good stuff. I noticed that you declined to include the ‘78 solo albums, and I think that is fair since they are solo albums. I wouldn’t mind a little sidebar on a ranking of those four and a ranking of the official live releases.
Anyway, my list would be:
20. Monster
19. Sonic Boom
18. HITS
17. Crazy Nights
16. Psycho Circus
15. Revenge
14. Animalize
13. Unmasked
12. Asylum
11. Music From The Elder
10. Creatures
9. Carnival of Souls
8. Lick It Up
7. Dynasty
6. Love Gun
5. Kiss
4. Destroyer
3. Hotter Than Hell
2. Rock And Roll Over
1. Dressed To Kill
I feel the same way about Monster that you feel about SB.
I love the different opinions of kiss fans regarding albums and songs!!!
Me too, Jerome! Thanks for watching!
I was at the Crazy Nights Tulsa show too! That was my 1st concert ever
Awesome 👍. Thanks for watching!
I love Reason to Live on Crazy Nights.
Me too!
My favorite Kiss albums best to worst:
1 Destroyer
2. KISS
3. Creatures of the Night
4. Revenge
5. Hotter than hell
6. Sonic boom
7. Unmasked
8. Dynasty
9. Love gun
10. Lick it up
11. Hot in the shade
12. Rock n roll over
13. Dressed to kill
14. Music from the elder
15. Crazy nights
16. Carnival of souls
17. Animalize
18. Asylum
19. Psycho circus
20 Monster
Btw great video.
I completely disagree with your choices but I totally respect your opinions.
I respect you for having placed Monster as the worst. It certainly is.
@@louisborselio8608 yeah I felt it had no heart and soul.
@@danthaman03 Funny you say that. I was just listening to the Monkees' Heart and Soul. Monster is just a mess.
@@louisborselio8608 I have re evaluated Animalize I think it might need to go higher.
Mine would be very close to yours great job very cool
Thanks so much for your list. I'm 10 years older than you, so I started Kiss in 74. Two positive notes. I TOTALLY agree with your placement of Revenge, and Baby Driver!! Thank you SO much! I hated that song the moment I heard it.
Haha! Thanks for watching, Hugh. AND for getting my whole "Baby Driver thing." Lol
Unmasked is way better based on what?? All the great, hard rocking tunes?? Please.
This is where I agree more with a commenter, than the publisher good call, I mean I love this ranking and his raw attitude and opinions However *Creatures is in a league of its own and can definitely hold up against the top tier rockers of that era!*
I'm glad to see LIU at #4
good job bro. I agree.. It's a really good album and far better than Creatures
Hard to beat the song writing of V V with Paul n Gene .. Vinnie is way better than desmond child imo
Animalize higher than Creatures?? Smoking dope dude…
RARO is #1 and Baby Driver only misses a guitar solo. (The 3 first sound like demos . ALIVE! fixes the problem)
Great job
@@user-yx8kd2nn4i Thanks for watching!
Love the song Mr Speed and being a big T.Rex fan thought at the time the riff was similar to Get it On
YES!
The sound issue on Animalize is easy to diagnose: it's Mark St John. He's horrible.. and that album and tour are horrible 38:47
Just your comments alone on Sonic Turd is amazing!!! Speak the truth!!! Awesome. Watch my ranking on Matt's Metal Show. I'm pretty brutal as well. 🤘
I'll put my ranking up in a bit. Everyone can do what they want, but personally I rank them almost entirely on the sonf quality. Unless the production is pure ass that ruins the tune, then it doesn't dimish the songs for me.
But hey, to each his own.
i wouldnt say they conquered the world again in the 80s.....they really only did that in the 70s
And the 90's . They were number one in 96/97
@@charlesbronson4282 true
Great list don`t agree with you on some but do agree on lick it up and dress to kill. but for me dynasty would be a lot higher and revenge would be lower. you are dead on with sonic boom and monster
Dynasty is definitely great.
Thanks for watching!
The clangy sound you're hearing on Love Gun is an acoustic guitar.
Your last 4 are exactly like mine lol
Lol. It's definitely the easiest part of the list.
my list:
For me, a good album is how well I can put the needle on song 1 and go all the way to the end without getting tired of it.
Wow, nice list! Appreciate you taking the time to share this!
@@HARDROCKreverie thanks for the nice comment! When I started your video and noticed it would be an hour, I groaned. But you actually kept me hooked the whole time. Liked your explanations/justifications so much that it inspired me to do the same.
@@Kissfan96dr Excellent! Thanks for saying so and for watching!
1973-79 KISS albums on 8track (Quad) only
I still have my 8-track collection. A lot of KISS included! 😁
I was right with from 20 down maybe 17 then in the middle strongly disagree. Creatures is #1 for me
Technically speaking I think Peter Criss had the best singing voice in the band. Black Diamond is proof of this.
I have most of my KISS reissue albums up to animalize,
Do you have all the Kiss reissues?
Fucking love it too
For a guy who said this was just your opinion, I heard a few “I don’t care what you think, you’d be wrong” kind of statements!
Lol
Thanks for watching AND for your opinions, Nimzy!
Peter, again, got a horrible song on the Psycho Circus album. Into the Void, the Ace tune, is phenomenal.

@@kevinchandler179 In your opinion. Not mine.
My copy of Dress to Kill doesn’t contain Rock and Roll Over. In fact I’ve never heard that song🤣
😆
Okay, okay, ha ha. Lol
You complain about a little extra reverb on Creatures but defend the absolute production shitshow that was Hotter than Hell?
Baby Driver is a decent song, That's the comment
Ok, so I was disappointed by Sonic Boom and Monster, but there's not a universe I can rank them lower than Crazy Nights, Unmasked, Hot in the Shade.
I do get that.
you’ve inspired me to do my own ranking. “rock&roll over” is number one. the rest are subject to change.
ur math doesnt add up: u said u were a fan since u were 6 in 1976.. Then u said u were 15 when Asylum came out n u bought it on casstte.. Makes no sense at all.. But I enjoy ur list; the first 5 or so I agree with 100.
