I loved Dynasty from day 1 but I looked at the back album cover seeing Charisma was the first song so I listened to side 2 first by accident and loved i hearing it that way for years lol
Original KISS Army kid from June '76. Ace Frehley rules! ⚡ Anyway, here's my Top 12 (or baker's dozen): 1. KISS ALIVE! 2. Dressed To Kill 3. Rock and Roll Over 4. KISS 5. Hotter Than Hell 6. Love Gun / ALIVE II (tie) 7. Dynasty 8. Destroyer 9. Creatures of The Night 10. Unmasked 11. The Elder 12. Lick it Up SOLO ALBUMS from '78: 1. ACE FREHLEY 🛸 (easily #1!) 2. PAUL STANLEY ⭐ 3. GENE SIMMONS 🦇 4. PETER CRISS 😼 Finally, just a comment in general (not here, in general): I am so sick of hearing this inane, knee jerk opinion about the "production" on the first two classic KISS albums being "the reason"... BS! I can understand someone saying it about "Hotter Than Hell" (but for me, it absolutely adds the LP's character and dark, underworld, evil sound!), but when it comes to the debut, I think you're all on crack! The LP sounds great! Especially as a debut album. Yes, of course the songs sound better on ALIVE!, but I personally feel that this album's sound, feel, speed and power is perfect! Each of the first 3 KISS albums are uniquely excellent in this way. What, do you all want them to sound the same? I love their own special qualities...and then having them all go to another level on KISS ALIVE! *Also, "Flaming Youth" & "Sweet Pain" are both excellent tracks. Actually, for me, it's those two that draw me to listen to Destroyer the most. M ⚡ p.s. I don't care about anything after Lick It Up. That's some other stupid hair band...not KISS. Asylum is a decent effort for the MTV crowd. I was 19 when it came out...I hated it. But over time, I like it slightly better. REVENGE is ridiculously overrated. To me, it's a one track album. "UNHOLY" is brilliant, but the rest of it is a who cares affair, with some songs (Domino, I Just Wanna, etc.) being cringe inducing. Saw them at a club show on that tour, with my soon to be wife. It was good. At least they didn't look like sequin'd drunken housewives, like they did in '85-'89.
@cdrevival Haha! Ya think? You know that was the thing I liked most about Revenge (other than the excellent "UNHOLY")...it was the way more cool, down to earth look of the band compared to the ridiculous way they looked from '85-'89. Feh... Anyway, I am a huge fan, 1973-1983. And what they brought not only to me, but the entire ROCK world, from '73-'78, was priceless! My favorite artist is DAVID BOWIE. And then BLACK SABBATH, KISS, AC/DC, JEFF BECK, ZAPPA, PINK FLOYD, THE CURE, JUDAS PRIEST, T REX, LZ, etc. But KISS "is" on the Mount Rushmore for me ('73-'83) ⚡
1. Destroyer 2. Hotter Than Hell 3. KISS 4. Dressed to Kill 5. Rock and Roll Over 6. Creatures of The Night 7. Dynasty 8. Ace Frehley 9. Music from The Elder 10. Love Gun 11. Lick It Up 12. Psycho Circus 13. Carnival of Souls 14. Revenge 15. Animalize 16. Asylum 17. Paul Stanley 18. Unmasked 19. Monster 20. Sonic Boom 21. Gene Simmons 22. Hot In The Shade 23. Crazy Nights 24. Great job! I appreciate that your list was a bit different then many I've seen before. I think the solo albums should not be included in a KISS album ranking but I liked your take, although I think Paul's was the best. I just watched their final show on PPV and am feeling a bit nostalgic and this hit the spot.
Really like your ranking. Initially I thought you had the solo albums too low but when I saw the albums in front of them I actually now agree. Albums like Psycho Circus and Hot In The Shade get too much hate. I would swap out Revenge and Dynasty with Hotter Than Hell and Destroyer but we can’t agree on everything. Asylum is underrated I agree and one of the main reasons is because Genes songs are all good for once. I have the same top 2 as you as well.
Loved your list. Really liked seeing Asylum ranked as high as it is. I feel the same way you do about Destroyer but I'd rank it higher since the good songs are absolute classics. I think Love Gun is slightly overrated though, not just here but with most KISS countdowns. The songs are mostly great and Almost Human is one of my favorites. But, Got Love For Sale loses points because it could've been SUCH a good song if it weren't for that misplaces acoustic guitar. And, as you mentioned, Then She Kissed Me, which has no business being on any KISS recording. Hooligan is a decent song. So, seven killers and three songs that prevent it from being a top four KISS album. Glad to see Dynasty ranked high as well. One, giant hit surrounded by classic deeper cuts.
Enjoyed your ranking , pretty much in line with my own. My number 24 would be hot in the shade though, really don’t like it at all and carnival of souls is the only other I don’t like, The Elder is a top three for me and I know I’m in the minority here but I really like peters album, ok I get that it’s nothing like a kiss album but I love the ballads and he sings them well and I can’t stop the rain is one of my all time favourite songs, but great list !
Thanks mate. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for your views, always interesting to hear other people's favourites. I don't dislike any of them, including Peter's tbh. Definitely the one I listen to the least tho.
Rock n' Roll over is my favorite for sure! I would have put destroyer and hotter than hel in my top five personally. I was happy to see dynasty so high on someone's list, it is definitely a top ten for me any day of the week. I honestly would put unmasked and the elder a bit higher. I always respect another kiss fans' choices.
1. Dynasty 2. Destroyer 3. KISS 4. Creatures Of The Night 5. Dressed To Kill 6. Ace Frehley 7. Rock And Roll Over 8. Hotter Than Hell 9. Love Gun 10. Lick It Up
Why would you say they get too much crap? They earned that! As a lifer KISS fan since age 4, Carnival of Souls has grown on me for one dude - Bruce Kulick. The Alive 3 tour made me view that 1991-1995 lineup as the most unified 4piece band since Dressed to Kill. I am dramatic yes, but to see Sonic Boom and Monster even in this list makes me upset as a lifer still putting hours in playing the Wicked Lester classics lol
Cool ranking. I disagree a lot, but that don't matter. I don't include the solos. The only solo I like is Ace's. But I will include Alive 2 because of Side4. 21. Unmasked. That's just far too poppy for me. 20. Crazy Nights. Different era, same dislike for pop Kiss. But I do love the title track. 19. Hot in the Shade. Too radio friendly for most of it. But I love Rose to if. Hide Your Heart is cool. 18. Animalize 17. Asylum (Used to like these two, but they've not aged well for me). 16. Sonic Boom. I expected more, this bored me. 15. Carnival of Souls: I like some tunes on this, but it feels like a much heavier band with Gene and Paul on guest vocals. Kiss isn't metal. Kiss is good, beefy hard rock. 14. Monster is growing on me. 13. Alive 2. It's only five tunes, so it can't be higher. But all five are studs 12. Psycho Circus 11. Revenge 10. Lick It Up 9. Destroyer: Maybe because I heard Alive 2 first, but those versions are a little to massively superior(I don't like studio God of Thunder, but worship it on A2). 8. The Elder 7. Love a gun 6. Creatures 5. Dynasty 4. Dressed to Kill 3. Hotter Than Hell 2. Kiss 1. Rock and Roll Over
Thanks dude, I enjoyed reading your ranking, appreciate the effort. Some of our choices match up I guess, haha. Thanks very much for watching and commenting!
My first rock LP was Alive! My friends had some of the other albums. I think it was 77ish and I would have been 12 ish. An older dude turned me on to Purple , Floyd, the B.O.C. ELP and I was completely done with KISS. A coworker let me borrow basically all their 70's stuff and one by one, I listened to them I detail (till it got too cringy) I actually really like the first album which none of us had. They were a progressive rock band in that in that... every album got progressively worse after that.
I said I'd listen to you. I owned a 45 disc, " I wanna party every day, and rock n roll all night" Kiss sucks. Thank you for your review. Arigtou gozaimasu, senpai
ACE FREHLEY from 1978 IS "The Second Coming Of Christ!". It absolutely ROCKS throughout. It's a sonic masterpiece! Shame on ye! And man, you seem like a nice guy, decent fella. BUT... Jesus Crimminy!, you putting those horrible fake-Kiss PAP albums (Crazy Nights and Shit in The Shade) "above" the brilliant ACE FREHLEY solo album was, at once, stunning, disgraceful and absolutely sickening to see. 🤮
Thanks, I appreciate your comments. I appreciate also that a lot of people see Ace as some kind of guitar deity. That's fine by me. I've been a huge fan of Kiss for over 40 years, I like pretty much everything they've done, including the albums you have slated. Everyone has their own opinions and of course, I respect yours. Take it steady
@@cdrevival Thank you for the kind and respectful response. I appreciate what you're saying. Ace's solo album is brilliant and fantastic throughout, but I agree about opinions being your own. Sometimes I think that the issue is, if you were born too late to experience this band in the 1970s, starting in the mid 70s, then it's hard to understand why we rave do hard for it. And maybe our opinions bother you, b/c you didn't get to experience it. The difference in this band between the 70s and the mid to later 80s, is immense. Anyway, I enjoyed your ranking in general. Rock on!
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching. I agree that the 70s albums have a certain magic that the later stuff doesn't have. I enjoy hearing about others tastes, even if they don't match my own. Thanks again
No need to apologize for your love of Dynasty! Great album! Love the list!

Destroyer 76 is # 1 every song is flawlessly intense and haunting from beginning til end, how many other rock albums can claim that.
Not for me buddy. Sweet pain, flaming youth and great expectations are sub par imo. RARO is all killer, no filler. Thanks for your comment

Nice to see Revenge up there. Awesome album. 👍👍 Choose Kiss!
Cheers bro. Yeah, it's definitely up there with their best
Yes RARO is #1. Though no Ace songs... but still. Just missing an Ace solo on Baby Driver.
