That one at 4:08 runs really clean. So many demo ones splutter and gurgle and run like crap.

Nothing beats hearing 4 of these running from a Lancaster bomber flying 1000ft above your head. Doesn't matter if you are driving down the highway with the windows closed. You can still hear that airplane before you can see it!

I've seen and heard a spitfire flying full speed and low over an airfield, seeing and hearing a Lancaster do the same thing would be the greatest thing ever.

I will tell you what is even more impressive...witnessing 6 Unlimited Hydroplanes, using either Merlin engines, or Allisons, skimming across the starting line at a Gold Cup event during the 1960s, and hitting speeds of 180mph. The roaring of those powerful engines could be heard from 10 miles away. That is why those Unlimited boats were called "Thunderboats"! The sport simply ran out of WW2 surplus engines in the early 1980s, and switched over to jet power...they lost the glorious sound of those huge V12 engines. The sport is now extinct.

That merlin in the shed sounds like a big jag v12, runs beautifully.

The Griffon was destined to be fitted to the Hawker Hurricane, but the airframe couldn't be adapted to it......unlike the Spitfire.
The Griffon was a development of the Schnieder Trophy winning 'Type R' of 1931.

Awesome i just learned to differences of the merlin to the griffon.
    Griffin is a 37L and Merlin is a 27L
    Griffin was quite more powerful.
