A perfect oportunity for Pokemon Legends : Celebi ! Where you play on the beta maps, beta designs and you play as a young professor Oak with his steampunk pokeball from the Celebi movie! The female player is also a young Agatha.
Never gonna happen officially but if the full game design document is found and translated along with interviews to parse the intent not detailed there, it may be possible to create essentially the original vision, or at least a snapshot of it.
If you mean the japan one there are 2 hacks based on it: Super gold 97 is a very faithfull but barebone playable version of this map while 97 Reforged convert it into a more or less complette game Both are gen 2 hacks so its maybe not what you are looking for (i would love a gen4/5 hack version of it)
I do find it interesting how Kanto was going to change from having it's own league (as in Gen 1) to being just a fraction of the entire country's league (Spaceworld Gen 2).
Man, I remember when this leaked, a Twitter account called Team Spaceworld vowed to datamine and translate this leak, and then they dipped after dropping like one sprite sheet. Thankfully, the community has made a few ROM hacks based off of the final games where they worked backwards to make it work, but with some polish. Thanks for dipping, Team Spaceworld.
I wonder if the woman in Oak's lab is Daisy Oak, Blue's sister. The person in Blue's house has a different sprite to his sister. The sprite of the woman in the lab though, is the identical to Daisy's gen 1 sprite, and her gen 2 sprite is exactly the same but coloured
Regarding Shikoku.. it actually means four countries/provinces because there were and are four provinces/prefectures on the island Also, Lugia was created specifically for Pokémon 2000. It became so popular with fans that they decided to implement it as Ho-oh's counterpart legendary.
Exactly, unlike Mewtwo and Mew Lugia was supposed to be an "anime only" Pokemon. But GF liked it so much they implemented Lugia as the second box-Legendary against the will of Lugias creator.
Shikoku doesn’t translate to high tech. It means “4 provinces” The text you put on the screen is literally “haiteku” in Romaji so it’s a direct loan word from English “high tech” This is the first one I noticed so I would look out for more “this is what x means in Japanese” errors.
this is the most in depth look of the region of the beta games I've ever seen, in years of videos on them. you consistently make content no one else does, keep it up!!
The only way I could see the n64s being there is to refrence maybe The Stadium Games which you can use the n64 transfer pack on the original Gen 1 and 2 games
20:36 That's the sprite that's used for Blue's sister. The person in the house was probably Blue's mom, and the sister moved to the lab for some reason.
I think its more about genre preference, really. Pokemon started out as Noblebright Urban Fantasy, but it shifted into a straight up Fantasy series with scifi elements by the time it got localized for most areas, what with the anime and all. This is basically an alternate reality version of gen 2 where the games stayed Urban Fantasy, and is generally more low-stakes and slice of life. If that's to your taste, then its likely best suited for you! I, personally prefer this version of Pokemon as well. But at the same time, would Pokemon have remained as relevant now if it hadn't shifted gears to the less grounded world, where you can just do random things like have a treehouse city like Fortree, or just have a fantasy kingdom, like with Lucario and the Mystery of Mew? People absolutely eat up the big, super hero-level events like Groudon and Kyogre, even though I personally prefer little interactions with legendaries as a sort of local cryptid or kami. Its what has guaranteed Pokemon's success, so I just have to accept it as the cost of the Franchise's continuation. ...But part of me likes to imagine a world where Pokemon continued as this world, parallel to our own, with all this urban strife, even more science focus, and that maybe even grew up with its initial target demographic.
@@Birdsflight44This is actually a great comment. I hadn’t thought about the progression of the Pokémon franchise in this way. I’m starting to think this is why I preferred the way Johto handled legendaries compared to Hoenn. The myth of Entei, Suicune, and Raikou always seemed cooler to me than the global scale conflict of Rayquaza, Kyogre, and Groudon because the Johto trio felt more like a proper urban “legend” than the fantasy-esque “world destruction” conflict of Hoenn. Or at least I think I’m getting at what you’re saying? But yeah, I agree. I like this interpretation of Gen 2 better.
33:42 I guess they just added the Well for that potential story line in the beta, or thought it would be cool to have. Than when they drastically redesigned the game, they either didn’t have the well designed or have thought of the best place to put it yet. Or they later on decided to go back to the idea of having a well for a new or unused side quest. There’s a lot of potential reasons as to what’s going on here.
A question: there are rumors that in the beta version of Celadon City, inside the Rocket Casino, there is still the Rocket team's refuge in the basement, is this true, and if so, how could you access it?
I already played pokemon super gold 97, i think it's obviously different from the original idea, but it's still really nostalgic and the atmosphere is magic like 23 years ago ❤
I pray for the day we get a full on remake of the entire beta
It will be cool if they do it with a gba skin. By a rom hacker.

Wake up babe, a new hour long pokemon cut content video just dropped
How's your hand? Did it wake up to watch it with you?
@@kaydog890 u won’t believe it but somehow my ass got engaged to an even bigger nerd. there’s hope y’all
@seragaki you're literally single. Nice try. 👎
@@kaydog890 we both know this loser is single. Lmao

Omg there was genuinely an "evil professor oak" in this build? That is amazing
Nostalgic to see these videos again. A very big thanks to you and your entire team for preserving history.
If TH-cam still used the star-rating system, I'd give this video 5 stars!

Fun fact the cut girl trainer is the real blue. Your rival in yellow, red and green/blue is the real green

Wrong. Eat sh-÷
Absolutely loved to watch these again. Gen 1 & 2 beta is just fascinating.
It's interesting that Zelda 2 and Dragon Quest 2 did the same thing about including the map of the first game as a tiny section of the second game
Always love your content, man. Keep doing gods work
That's one cool Yoshi

In a parallel universe somewhere, Gamefreak made this beta map a reality for the 20th-25th anniversary for the series.
20:36 That's the sprite that's used for Blue's sister. The person in the house was probably Blue's mom, and the sister moved to the lab for some reason.
Wrong.
In before this channel gets huge
Keep going, man. Good research.
I just watched this entire video. Don't regret anything
its me or the old region is better than the one we had?

I think is a grass is greener effect
So we have Silent Hill, Callbacks to Gundam, A JoJo reference, and an eccentric 80's pop star. Pokemon is weird.
The anime culture in a nutshell in one game...weirdly fitting of the GameFreak of that era
Oh hell yeah I'll watch an hour of this
Time for some Cut Content Kino
the maps at 36:52 are swapped... was thinking the trees in the middle was added back in crystal or hgss, but nope
Ever notice how Canalave City's music is the same melody as what plays in G/S/C's "THE END" after the credits?
I love this. :) this is great

I felt like I wasn't in control of my finger I clicked so fast
I wish we had gotten the full Japan version.
These videos are life.
I feel like this might have been even better than GSC
Beautifull video man but u can put separadores o the minuts of all towns ? That sería very helpfull
I feel at part 36:59, you goofed up the final and the 98 version of the maps of route 37. 😅

On route 37 you mixed up the beta and the final map
Nice
Played the beta rom hack was super fun but income so sad
🍿🍿🍿
Silent hill is too similar to pallet towns layout the final version is more unique
I like the fact that you sound like a 1930s Radio Host. Makes it difficult to follow through with the vid tho :/
NO Jump Button Doc, I dont want to hear it, 6:10- dont care
Alcove
Nintendo and valve just make all of their games one month before launch
Why are the comments so cringe and stupid?
So technically hoenn and sinnoh and present in beta gen 2 map
