??? type was, to my knowledge, introduced as an easy fix for a Gen 1 bug. In Gen 1, Struggle was considered a Normal type move, meaning it couldn't hit Ghost type Pokemon. Rather than reprogram the entire battle system to allow for this specific move to hit Ghost types, they added the ??? Type, which was given to Struggle. That way, Struggle would be able to hit all types regardless of resistances and immunities. I believe Curse was also given the ??? Type to allow for the unique effect when used by Ghost types vs any other Type. In Gen 5, they seem to have rebuilt a lot of the mechanics meaning they could account for moves like Curse and Struggle. So Curse was swapped to the Ghost type, arguably its intended type from the beginning, and Struggle was made typeless.

The only way I can satisfy myself on this and truly know for sure would be to learn how to read the code and pull the game apart myself. Way too much work. Didn't want to take anybody's "word for it" as that defeats the purpose of trying to find the answer myself.
It was recently shown that the program he made was actually made to make the game load faster not to make Kanto fit into the Gen 2 games It was actually really needed and saved us all lots of time
Agreed! And it was something he'd already made, what was it used on? MOTHER, AKA, EarthBound Beginnings. That series has had some rotten luck over here First one was ready for release and got the same treatment as Final Fantasy 1, red carpet kinda thing. But then it got shutdown for the same reason as Star Fox 2 even tho it was done
In a way, what he did still technically allowed the Kanto region to fit into the gen 2 games. Because the game would have been next-to-unplayable otherwise without that loading speed and thus the concept would have most likely been scrapped to save on memory. Just like what they did with a bunch of pokemon that were intended for generation 1 or the island you were meant to go to via the SS Anne, which left us all with the Missingno glitch and Glitch city. Not everything has to be about semantics... after all, making video games is not easy.

Great video. Great series idea. Cut the intro to just “say my name” it’ll work better and it still the pun across. We want to dive into the video content as quick as possible! 😅
The reason shiny-locked mons still have shiny forms is because they have to. The game has a data block for each mon that defines its name, stats, colors, etc. It's like a printed form; every mon has the same form and just different information on it. But, you can't leave an entry in a data block blank; there has to be _something_ there.
13:30 Actually that is wrong! The pokemon center in New York had a "gotta catch em all" machine where players could obtain various pokemon with special moves including legendaries and their shiny forms. Shiny mew was obtainable from one of those machines, so it is in fact possible for shiny mew to legitimately exist in gen 2 games.

It still fits with with all of the eeveelution theory’s evidence, plus I think it fits better with the idea that they represent the lighting that stuck the tower, the fire that burned it down, and the rain that put it out if they were turned into those types rather than already being them.

The “iwata saving Pokémon gold/silver” is not entirely true. The program he wrote only saved on loading times and animations and had nothing to do with fitting kanto inside gen 2
A few problems with your video, 1. In the Pokémon adventures manga red goes back home after losing to gold on mount silver, 2. There are multiple timelines in Pokémon, just because the games have an order doesn’t mean that’s the chronological order nor does it mean that it takes place in the same world. The events of X and Y are known as the “Mega Timeline” where every everything from gen 1 to gen 6 are in the “Mega Timeline” where as everything after is not. If you do the end game wormholes for legendary Pokémon and ultra beasts, you will travel to a world where guzzlord has eaten all Pokémon, people and everything else.
Manaphy was shiny locked which was in gen 4, albeit a different way. The original game you trade it to cannot hatch a shiny, it's made to not be able to be shiny to that user. That's why the manaphy shiny hunt requires you to trade the egg to another game and hatch it there to try and shiny hunt it. Also, as shown by did you know gaming, the compression algorithm actually took up space, not saved it. It didn't allow for more content to be added, that was the larger flash chip. What it did allow was better loading speeds giving it an actual playable experience.
Some of them are just wrong... Like the "compression algorithm"... No he made a code to improve frame rate buffers, and in fact results in more used storage space not less.
Holy carp. Gen 2 had SO MANY unused Pokemon. Also, I really want to try that version of the game that was still on the original Game Boy, with it's limited pallet. Those ugly sprites and limited colors are nostalgic to me. lol

On the Stadium games, nicknames and random occurrences can both cause shinies to appear.
(01:48) the ruins at that angle gives me Sada/Turo battle vibes
imagine the pokemon vault of rejected pokemon they sift back through every time there's a new generation
We should live in a world where Woopers design never changed.
Beta wooper was so good they turned it into a starter
Nice video
Some of them are just wrong... Like the "compression algorithm"... No he made a code to improve frame rate buffers, and in fact results in more used storage space not less.
True!
how dare someone be wrong.
You did a good thing being pedantic on an entertaining video!
Bravo jackass.
And that info came out not that long ago whineass lmao. You’d really only know because of DYKG lmao
God lance and reds theme songs go hard
Time stamps for each ice berg level is needed 💯 and needs a picture of the full iceberg.
Thanks a lot for the feedback. I'll take it into account!
Holy carp. Gen 2 had SO MANY unused Pokemon. Also, I really want to try that version of the game that was still on the original Game Boy, with it's limited pallet. Those ugly sprites and limited colors are nostalgic to me. lol
Im going to subscribe assuming that youll do an iceberg video for Pokemon Gens 3 onwards.
My moms cooking has me up at 3am watching this on the toilet
Please get better!
you gain a sub bro. currently playing HG on my phone.
Welcome to the community!
The 3 legendary beasts also have the same Pokédex entries as the Eevee evolutions.

Re Giovanni, the water looks shallow so my guess is he was stomping and splashing in a pissed-off tantrum after losing to a kid. XD
