    I have the same bike and absolutely love my bonestock 117 with already over 6,000 very happy miles and not even a glitch. Some things are better left untouched...

      Exactly Kurtis!!! Why the hell would you fuck with a motorcycle that only has 1,000 miles on it! Lol if it didnt have enough power, why not just take a couple hundred pounds of junk off it...let it breath! Let it be a bike, not a living room on wheels.

      I have an 18 CVO SG, my 117 is just purring along. I did treat her to Harleys fan assisted oil cooler for my peace of mind.

      I agree... I bought a 2021 Road Glide Special last Summer. 114 is enough for me. Plenty Quick, I'm looking for reliability more than raw power because I travel a lot. To each his own I suppose.

      @@americanborn1112 I totally believe you, buddy. May the bike gods bless you and your bike, and I hope you never have a problem with your machine. What I can't understand from all manufacturers (bikes and cars) is this: Bikes and cars have been around for well over a century now. There aren't hidden secrets in a four stroke engine. Everybody knows exactly what works and what doesn't. My question is this: How come it's 2020 and manufacturers from different countries still face reliability problems? I think there's a lot of hype in the "new engine", "new platform", "new technology". Why can't manufacturers stick to what works and practice the old mantra of "evolution, not revolution"? It does make me admire the Toyota Camry. Cutting edge technology? No. Cutting edge design? No. But does it work? Does it sell a lot? Are people happy with what they are buying?
      Hell, yeah!

      @@americanborn1112 Now I agree even more with you. If I had the money, I'd totally lease a Ducati for a year. I'd never buy them, though.

    • @MyTrucker619
      @MyTrucker619  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ray Alapisco They we’re having problems tuning because of the RDRS (traction control) system on the new Harley’s... It kicks back and won’t let the bike go over 70% throttle... So now they have to get with Harley and the tuner company to figure it out

    9K miles on my 131 kit. Not a single issue. Why anyone would pay thousands extra for the crate motor is beyond me. The lower ends are identical.

    • @machninety7334
      @machninety7334 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I was quoted around 5 1/2 thousand for the 131 kit installed at Harley for my 2019 heritage classic 114ci. The crate motor was around 1k more at 6 1/2 thousand. If I go with the crate, I have an entire engine, the factory one keep in mind, that I can have sitting around or sell to my buddy doing a custom build for at least a thousand bucks. But Knowing myself, if they are TRULY identical on the lower end, then I could take the motor apart and seperate each and every single piece to it, and start designing my own custom combustion chambers, custom piston tops, meticulously balanced rods, ect ect. Basically build a motor capable of around 300hp with boost. That would be why I would get the crate. You have a whole other engine to play with in your spare time. And even though I love building legos with my little guy, this is just more fun!

    I have a 2020 Street Glide with the 131 crate engine and D&D 2 into 1 exhaust. Dyno'd at 137 tq and 135 hp. I blew the rear cyl head gasket at 600 miles and the front at 1,100 miles. After my local dealer fixed it, I've had no problems (3,800 miles so far). They had to pound the rear head to get it off. Something definitely wasn't right at the factory before the shipped the engine. Runs great now!

    • @rogerburns8478
      @rogerburns8478 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I blew a rear head gasket on my 17 road king 107 at 10k miles. Then i had my piston rings not seat on my 2020 road glide limited. Which cost me 3 months of not having my bike. While they did a entire top end rebuild my 114 still burns oil.

    Good luck with it Matt. I hope it all works out. I've had 3 HD's over 36 years. Never had any major issues with any of my HD's, although looking back it seemed like I always was tinkering with something. In 2019 I purchased a BMW K1600. Part of the reason is I'm doing longer trips now and had two friends make the switch. Now all I do is add gas and go. I'm no a HD hater at all, in fact, I love them. I'm hoping the company can figure things out and continue on. I like your channel.

    My shovelhead 74 cid is pretty stock and I love it. If I would spend that kind of money on performance I would buy a used Yamaha FJR1300. Harley = cruiser Metric sport touring = performance. It's so simple.

    As a young man I wouldn't have thought twice about spending big money on performance upgrades and I did it. 20 years later and a little wiser, I've learned to appreciate what you already have. What I always tell folks when they want big inch and big power is to address the bottom end and protect your investment (welded or S&S flywheels and Timken left bearing).. you can run gear driven cam after that or chain.. and next address cam plate and oil pump (S&S or Feuling), add better lifters (S&S or Feuling here too) and build from there up
    … that’s the bulletproof foundation.
    After that run whatever cam and head work fits your needs and ride easy or beat on it with peace of mind

    I have the blue CVO. Did the 131 before delivery. The kit. Got thru the break in, 1000 mile service. Have about 1600 miles now. Not dynoed yet. Getting ready to do so. The shitty part is that you have to void the warranty to pull the 116 mph limited out of it. I spent 55grand. If I want to run it to 130 once a year, I should be able to
    I wonder what kind of power this will actually make on the dyno?

    I saw your video where you said you couldn't tune with TTS because software couldn't turn off the rdrs or traction control...... you can manually hold down TC button for 2 to 3 seconds and it will turn it off..... but has to be turned off every time you turn switch off and back on. A light on gauge will be on when you turn it off.

    I have got over 2,000 miles on mine riding in all conditions with no issues. Have the HD Pro Street Tuner and HD Smart Auto Turner. After 1,700 miles, they downloaded the data from Smart Auto tuner to the ECM and it woke that bike up!!!!! Got the kit, not the crate. With all the money you dumped into the bike (probably $55,000 so far) and wanting to go with a non HD tuner, you void your 2 yr warranty. My 2 year warranty and Extended Service Plan will still cover my bike since I went with all HD parts.

    Sorry this engine design is based on a 1937 base engine. Sorry the assembled crankshaft is the base of the problem, it shuffles quite a bit and most of the cam and oiling system is directly related to that damn week crankshaft. Now use some logic here guys, you are using a pressed together crankshaft with a long stroke so even if you almost passed high school shop class you would recognize that the longer the stroke the more stress you are going to put on the crank. Then remember the last street motorcycle brand to use a multi cylinder pressed together needle bearing crankshaft was Suzuki and they dropped that in the late 70's due to reliability issues with crankshaft shuffle, now remember they were talking a stroke of under 70mm or about 2.75". Increasing the power on Harley's rather frail crankshaft is simply asking for failure, yep if you keep out of it you might get OMG 70k miles and yes that has happened in the real world but not often. Other bike brands a crankshaft failure is rare for the life of the bike, usually the failure is it was ran out of oil to see this failure. Now remember these bikes are pumping out well over 100hp stock and are turning over 2 times as fast. Harley would do well to go to a forged 1 piece crankshaft, yes it would require either a master/slave type con rod or better offset cylinders by the width of the rod+throw offset. On the offset rods would give a wonderful plus also, the back cylinder would actually get better air flow, remember the famous issue of cooking off the rear cylinder issues ever present on the Harley. Indian did their engine design based on a one piece crank and they produce a shitload more power and don't have the bottom end issues, it is time for Harley to think outside of that 1937 design box.

    Bought a ‘97 FXDWG brand new. Changed the oil every 1500 miles using mobil 1. At 30k miles the evo destroyed itself. Keeper / snap ring on wrist pin popped off, fell down ruining the cylinder wall ended up in the oil pump and destroying that. The root cause was fly wheels not properly already aligned at the factory when built.

      I got sick of the crankcase pressure issues in my 2017 RK, I sold the bike. As far as I am concerned the M8 engine is a POS, Harley knows they have a problem and they don't give a shit. I bought a 2004 RK police bike from a auction. The bike was in excellent cosmetic condition and ran ok but had a few issues. I stuck about a grand in it, the bike runs and rides great and I don't have to worry about all the sumping and blow by issues the new M8 has.

    just my opinion but if you're buying Harley's top model bike with the massive price tag, it should be coming with the 131 as standard! not as a 9500 option! that's crazy! and even more crazy that you've been having problems from the very start... hope your bike gets sorted!

    A good stage 2 from the aftermarket makes the same or similar power that the 131 does with he screaming eagle stuff on it. You could have spent 2-3k and had the same or very similar performance with a woods wm8-22xe or a star racing 30-30 cam, a good exhaust, and a good tune.

    I got the 131 stage 4 put into my 2020 cvo limited 117. I have supertrapp slip ons, supertrapp catless headers and power vision tuner. It's currently making 128 hp and 146 ft lbs of torque at the wheels.. problem is with the tunining due to the rdrs traction control.. not many tunes from various companies have perfected the rdrs tunes, so my power is dropping off at 5,000 rpm,,, and bogged down retarding of power in 1st and 2nd gear,,,,,am waiting to get a tune file from fuelmoto to sort it out, and sort it out,, hopefully with more power,,,,, bye the way, that's with the included se 517 cam,,,

    First of all, that 131 should be a factory option and ordered with that motor instead of buying it after the fact and pay an additional 10K.
    Next, I've read that many HD engines were not assembled as well as they could've.
    I assume this is true for the 131 as well.
    If HD wants long-term customers, engineer them properly, use better materials and, assemble them so they are built to last!
    Me, I've been riding HD's since 1979 with my trusty Shovel-head Super Glide FXE.
    My current ride is my 2014 HD Fat Bob that I love!
    It's a 103 and I have many plans to build it and bullet-proof it!
    I almost traded it in for an Indian, but decided to stay loyal to the HD brand!
    Besides, what good is it having a legendary icon if you can't have the bragging rights!

    so for a total of $35 grand, you ended up with a lot of pain and a bike that you are unsure of keeping. Sounds like just a little too much money. Next time, buy a tidy Evolution 1340 Road king or Fxd and spend 2k on gently warming it over.
    youll have a bike for as long as you need it and can pocket the remaining 28k.

    The headpipes being different lengths throws the tune out of synch to begin with, especially true duals....... the cylinders wont help each other scavenge and the TTS tuner works well but if you or someone else ever tries to tune the bike with another brand tuner, the ECM will lock you out and shut the bike down. The ecm will have to go back to tts and steve coles' feelings will be hurt that you want his software removed and he will take his sweet time getting your ecm back to you !
