Where in Tennessee are you located? I currently live in Arizona and I’m looking for a home in middle Tennessee. I’ve visited TN a bunch and love it there and when I finally find a home I will be getting a new Road Glide so I can do a bunch of road trips and visit more of the state.
@@TaterGrabbinBass I'm near the Chattanooga area, but middle TN has some great places to settle down too. I'm in middle TN all the time since I have family there.
I agree, my 2018 CVO limited has the 117 ci. I would love to have a 131ci. At 44 k it should of had one. My concerns are with the oil pump. Told sump problems and failures by the dealership! Change the oil pump and upgrade the cam I was told.
A CVO used to come with a Twin Cam 110 and that was perfectly fine. Ever since Indian cam onto the scene with their 111, Harley has been pushing the limits further and further with the Milwaukee Eight. In the end it's all about how much power you think you need, and how fast you think you're going to go.
I think you said it…do I need a 131 or do I want it? I certainly don’t need it but I did it anyway. Picked up my 2019 cvo flhtkse this weekend with a 131 installed. Let me put it this way, I couldn’t get the smile off of my face! She has a rumble that I don’t think I have heard on a bike. And from a stop, she has a ton of torque! I live in Texas and the roads are relatively straight. There was a few times that I didn’t know I was doing XXX until I looked back in the mirror and see my wife struggling to keep up in her Q60. Needless to say I put her cruise control on at 75mph for the rest of the ride home. Even at touring speed, she sounds awesome. So do I need it? Absolutely not. Do I want it! Yes, yes I do!
Hey man! That is awesome! I'm really glad to hear that you are happy with the bike. I can only imagine what that 131 is like. Maybe one day I will pull the trigger and do the same thing. Thank you for watching! I appreciate your time today and ride safe!
Love my stage 1 tune. My 114 runs very nice. I like built machines. Car's truck's and bikes. We do have to live within our means. Always been my biggest problem. I have a lot of ways. Just never enough means ☺️
Love my street glide ST, the 117 is putting a lot of pep out. At this point getting a 131 or 135 would be for the most part "bragging rights" they would be more then id ever use. But ya id love to have one just not budget friendly.
Hey Doug. It sounds like you and I think the same thing about the 131 or the 135 I just don’t need that much power either. Thank you very much for watching and have a great day.
I brought my 21 street glide down to Moonshine on a Friday and picked it up Sunday and went back up to Wisconsin. It was a 128 build, the price was $12,500
On the ride back up to Wisconsin I wasn't sure. When I was in Tennessee, I had ridden it just a bit with a helmet on. But the very first time I took it out back in Wisconsin. It was hard not to smile. Took me a second, but I realized I was smiling. At that point it was well worth it and I still hadn't really got on it at that point. I had a Yamaha R1 in an R6 track bike for the last 22 years So even though I got the Harley brand new 2021, it lost its luster pretty fast. Just wanted something with some good power for my riding style. It's not for everybody. but if I hadn't done it I would've sold the bike. Power went from 79hp to 138 hp Torque 101 to 150
@@TyFromTennessee I talked to Jamie at fuel Moto. it would’ve been a whole lot cheaper, but the bike was brand new at the time and they need a year before they can get into the software. Moonshine just came with a two year warranty on top of my warranty, and get into the software immediately because there was the stealership.
Really good points Ty. Some of the other things no one talks about is the bottom end isn’t upgraded. Then the clutch and transmission. When you start bumping up the power to components that are built for a specific power range you are playing with fire, IMO. Your practically point is spot on. We all love bragging rights and that’s why we do it. We all want the biggest and baddest. See you soon my friend.
Blockhead moto on TH-cam had a 131 and ripped on it and it only just broke after 3 years, and it was a minor serviceable part in the primary. Everything else is the same.
My opinion is when it comes to power what do you want is usually much more than what you need. Are usually ride a VTX1800R. It has been in the shop for a while. I have been riding a 750 shadow. When I first started riding the shadow it felt really slow. I have put a little over 3000 miles on it this year. I am having a lot of fun riding that little lightweight bike.
Great point...want vs need...That is a really good reason to think about the project too. Thank you very much for watching! I appreciate your time today!
Funny you say this. I have a 06 Heritage with the 88 motor. Does everything I need it to do, and does it well. I do understand the hot rod game, been there done that with cars.
Local dealer told me $12,500 "installed" for that 135. And yeah, you bring up an excellent point. We built a Twin Cam 107" that made 126 hp and 128 lb/ft for my 2008 Road Glide. All the power I could imagine needing for touring and fun. My son has that bike now. My current bike is a '15 Road Glide Special. We built a 113" for it and it does 137 lb/ft and 127 hp. Again, I am not sure what I would do with more power realistically. If it boils down to dick measuring then fine, bring your check book and carry around your dyno sheet if you got the money. And, obviously if someone is legit racing, then I get it. But, I find it kind of laughable how the current trend is bigger and bigger motors with more and more power. Not sure what the point is really. The average HD rider will never "need" all that power and, quite likely, will never really use it. And I question how the primary and transmission will hold up in the long run.
Hey Guy! Yeah man, I'm with you. If you've got the money and that's your thing then go for it, but I would never ever need that much power. I'm sure it's fun to ride, but for me it's just not the type of riding that I do on a regular basis. Thanks for watching today! I appreciate your time very much and I hope you have a great weekend!
@Guy Connell, I have similar numbers on a 107 for my 09 Heritage, perfectly tuned it is fuel efficient on the highway and loads of fun. I imagine your 113 is a hoot to ride.
@@keithmauldin6815 How much was the install and out the door? I was looking at possibly doing this. Salesman said what it came with was more than enough but never asked where I was taking it. Plan to do rides to Colorado with the wife on it for a getaway. Higher elevation gear etc. Not looking for a race but need that power.
I certainly understand why people do it, but the longevity is bound to be reduced. Mostly, I think if you’re a local rider, bike nighter, or pack rider, it might be worth the upgrades. As you said, the cost plus the labor is very expensive. Will you get your money back? Probably not! Very good topic and thanks for sharing your views on this one. Ride safe Ty!
Thanks man. I appreciate your perspective. It would be nice to have for sure, but I think I'm going to hold off for now. Thanks so much for your comment. I appreciate your support for the channel!
Great video and great points. I was actually debating on doing a stage 2, woods cam in my 21 Roadking Special. When I put it to paper, did I need this or want this; definately a want. I have a 2017 Streetglide Special stg 2, Reaper 465 cam, RCX headers and Rinehart exhaust and she runs awesome, with some piece of mind bc I fixed known issues. Now my 114 with FM header, TAB mufflers and Pv tune also runs freaking awesome and no need to overdue it(yet). Need to lock in a job after I retire from the Navy in July. Hell look back to early 2000 and we were happy with 96" motors and they ran awesome.
I have the rks with 114. fm head pipe and tabs and pv as well. my issue. can't decide which cam. was originally leaning towards that same reaper 463 cam but that woods 22xe is a really beast..
I upgraded my SG suspension and got rid of the factory lean condition replacing the ecm, pipes, cams and intake. It's a much better bike now than when new. I considered building the motor but instead took the $10k and purchased a 2009 ducati 1198S with 3500 miles. When riding the SG I just don't feel the need for speed. I bought it to chill but I still need a bike that boogies so the Ducati was the answer. 400 pounds and close to 200 hp stock does the trick plus it's a twin!
There ya go John! It sounds like you’ve got it all covered. If you like to go fast you’ve got the right bike for that. Thank you so much for watching today!!
Ty, really good points. Everyone would love bigger but... I have a 2017 FLHTK with 107 M8. Added a K&N air filter strictly for maintenance issues. Did add a Vance & Hines FP3 tuner. It didn't add any more performance, just made the bike run silky smooth. Been from the east coast to the west coast on this bike, including up Pikes Peak, and never felt I needed more/bigger.
That’s awesome Bill. I think a 131 or 135 is just too much for me. I’m sure others would love it and I think that’s great too. Thank you very much for watching. I appreciate your time today!
You are 100% right. I have a 2015 RG special and for me it's just not practical to boost the power. I have no trouble keeping up with the 107s and the 117s. I am more of a cruiser and joy the surroundings on my motorcycle. I don't need to get to my destination any faster.
Hey Trace! Me too I very much like to take my time and see the sights taking the scenery and have a good time cruising on my Harley. Thanks for stopping by the channel today and ride safe.
Perfectly happy with my stock 107. Sounds good with Khrome Werks 4.5 in slip ons. More power than I need, and suits my riding style just fine. BTW, bought my FLHR from Moonshine HD.
I’ve heard great things about Khrome Werks! Glad your happy with the bike. A 107 or 114 is just fine with me too. Thank you very much for watching. I appreciate your time today!
I have a 96 with a Woods 222 cam, tune vision tune 2 into 1 V@Hs high flow intake, and Progressive shocks. Its not a dragster but much improved from stock. It gets me up hills nicely, and has nice passing power. Don't need anything more. I can afford a much bigger cc motor build but its just not needed.
I've done just about every other upgrade to my Twin Cam 103 with the exception of the cam. That includes the 2 into 1 Trask Assault, RWD 14" shocks, +2 suspension with Patriot Springs in front, MJK floorboards, Kraus risers with Wolf one top tree clamp. I plan on doing a cam specifically Fueling 574s. My Road Glide is for all intents and purposes a "performance bagger" without a 110 or a Milwaukee 8 for that matter. No, no one really needs a 131, or the new 135 CI engine, they are cool though.
Those are some awesome mods that you have listed out there. Yes, I agree the 131 and 135 are super cool. I would never use that much power, but it would be fun trying! Thank you very much for watching and ride safe!
I just want a stage 2 and the upgraded lifters, cam bearing, and such that Harley cheaped out on in the engine internals with these M8s. A great sounding, torque rich, and reliable 114 engine is all I need. I’ll never touch the limits of that engine with my riding ability. Beyond that some upgraded suspension and I would done. I just can’t convince my wife that I need to spend the $$ for a stage 2……yet.
hahaha. That might be a tough sell for sure. I'm not sure what I will do to my Low Rider ST if anything. Maybe an upgraded cam, but still don't know. Thank you very much for watching! I appreciate your time today, Robby!
Good video👍. Seems like Harley is playing the catch-up game with Indian. Indian has their standard Thunderstroke 111ci plus the 116ci on a lot of modles that really pulls hard. Add their stage 2 kit and a lloydz tune to the 116ci and you're pushing 140ft lb of torque and still be under warrantee for a lot less $$ than HD. Not to mention the Lloydz 121ci Thunderstoke kit that totally surpasses HDs 135ci.
I totally agree! I had a S&S t143 motor on a Road King at the same time that I had a 103 on a road glide. They both merged on the freeway just as good and I pretty much rode them about the same. Aside from the t143 sounding like an absolute monster nothing else was different and in the end I found it was a waste of $14K in motor, transmission, and upgraded drivetrain parts such as clutches and compensators. A lot of people don't take into account all the extras that you have to do to the drivetrain and fuel system when adding that much power. Not to mention the labor.
Wow man!! That is a ton of money, isn't it? I'm totally fine with those types of upgrades, but I just don't think I would ever touch that much power. I'm good with a 114 or a 117 for sure. Thanks for your comment and ride safe out there!
They're far from the same motors. If you rode them you should know this. You must have babied them or your 143 was poorly tuned etc. 103 and 143 are night and day. Yes they'll both yet you from point A to B but one has the capability of so much more.
When I seen the title my first thought was no you don't need.... but how bad do you want it? Haha! My brother in law rode a TC88 and always complained he needed more and to be honest was my 103 faster well yeah but it wasn't like I could get 10 car links on him. Most of the time it is how fast and hard you twist the grip. I will say if you nerd out on engines like me watch Kevin Baxter YT channel. He is awesome and really explains engines well. He has a shop in Winder Ga (Pro Twin Performance) and if I don't rebuild mine when it is time, I may use him.
When you add a cam, lifters, pushrods, air filter, exhaust, compensator sprocket, dyno tune ... the bike still looks the same. And therefore wives of Harley owners just think that their husband is saving money by keeping the same bike for years to come. A win/win :)
Ty, You hit the nail on the head... just like you've mentioned in the video: "Whatever makes you happy".... however, my stock 114 RG is just fine for me. Whatever floats their boats. Great Content Ty👍🏾👍🏾
I’m totally with you there. A 114 or a 117 is all the power I would ever need. But if somebody wants to go all out I say have a great time with it!!! Thanks for watching Big G!!!
I have a 2020 low rider S … started with the auto tuner and pipe… nice. Then swapped into a S&S 475 cam and power vision plus air cleaner..WOW (I got over 105 hp and the HD “lope”..totally awesome)… and then I went full S&S internals, 131 Kit and new tune. Holy shit… pull your arm sockets out! Light the rear wheel up on demand.. 150tq and 144 hp.. And you know what… it’s intoxicating.. but it’s like going out with a stripper every time I take her out… quite frankly, stick with the “librarian (or teacher/nurse depending on your taste) and go with the S&S 475 cam and power vision or the preprogrammed module that you can get…It will give you that classic harley sound that the M8 misses… the power is exactly where we ride most of the time…
Awesome advice. Would you recommend the 475 cam for my Low Rider ST? I’m weighing my options for some type of engine upgrade but not too much. Ya know?
@@TyFromTennessee absolutely I would. I have a disease… it’s called an IPadonthepotty! Harleys and Jeeps are the same addiction and when I spend quality time alone (with my Amex in hand) I tend to think I “need all that”….. but in this case, that S&S 475 cam is by far the best modification that transforms the bike. No need for the cam chest or any of the other stuff (except for a quality exhaust, power vision tuner and accompanying “tune”, and a good air cleaner. If you check fuel Moto, they have all of the parts and he has “canned” tunes that most likely will match the setup you go with. The owner has an ST so I suspect that have rounded out the options since I did my bike. I actually purchased all of my S&S parts from them and my dealer (Empire in New Rochelle Ny) did the install (they are fantastic to work with if you guys are close to the area… I drive up from Brooklyn to use them. Lastly, I had the bike dyno’d and tuned at getlowered.com in Pennsylvania. (They are another great shop to deal with….) Lastly lastly, I have a bassani 20th anniversary exhaust… it was nice for the 475… but loud and with the 131.. it’s really loud. So I’d look to another direction for that… probably HPI. Hope this helps… btw.. I went to TTU years ago.
The funny thing is it has never been about need, it's always been about want. If you have the money, let 'er rip. I won't do anything more with mine until something blows up.
I think there is a difference between want Vs need. I don’t need a 131 but if HD gave me one I would not complain. LOL I like the comfort and looks things. Seat , sound system upgrades. All a lot cheaper to do as well. My concerns with above a stage 2 are increased heat , decrease potentially in reliability, burning more $$ fuel. I did suspension on one bike and the bike handled so much better and in curves would probably have beat a 131 in a timed race on a road with a lot of curves.
Lots of great points you have made there. Especially on a touring bike comfort is the priority for me. Thanks for watching man. I appreciate your time today!
I was lucky enough to buy a 2020 Fatboy with a 131 stage 4 kit with pretty low milage for the same price as they were asking for a Standard Fatboy 114 same year and same milage. So was a no brainer for me.
look into the engine builders before you buy. some dealers even , have terrible reviews and lots of issues.i have a stage 1 114 ultra limited and its good . if I wanted more a cam maybe is enough .
That is a great piece of advice! I wish I would have thought about that for the video. Thanks so much for your comment. I appreciate your support for the channel!
I decided my last bike would be a naked bobber (after leaving sport bikes and being old). So I bought a M8 114 Street Bob (a naked bobber). An 1800cc / 114ci engine on a bare / small frame is most definitely enough (I was actually imagining something smaller). If you want performance, Harley is not for you. However, this naked thing is pretty fun to ride. I ride more than the majority of the baggers I meet. People call bobbers barhoppers, yet I go on long rides and the baggers I know barhop (or equivalent). I though about a stage IV upgrade, but it would be ridiculous. For me, the ideal motorcycle for me has as little as possible beyond the motor. The ironic thing for me, is none of the screaming eagle upgrades I've seen are actually motorcycle riders (trailer their bikes, very short rides, wrap the throttle through town.... you know the type..... profilers).
Thanks for your feedback Brian. I hope one day to drop in a 131 or a 135 in my Road Glide, just not sure I want to deal with the price tag. Thank you for watching!
Hey from NW Tennessee. Great info to use. Been looking for a used street guide. Some questions I consider when looking is do I consider upgraded engine with kits or more stock engine
Hey Scott! Yeah I would love a big 135 for my Road Glide, but I just don't think I would use it. However, I do have plans for some really cool stuff for my Low Rider ST. Thank you for watching!
My Shovel was born with a 80 cid. I don't like 80 cids, so I de-stroked it to a 74 with Truett & Osborn torque monster flywheels around fifteen years ago.(with a 52% balance factor to bring smoothness down in the 2500 RPM range) A Harley is meant to be a smooth pleasant cruiser. If I want to long distance at a faster pace, I take my Honda Pan European 1100. Oh yeah, the big engine Harley ? Tried a few, hate them, but not as much as the owners wanting to get rid of them.
Hey Daniel. You make a lot of good points in your comments. When I ride, I like to cruise and not ride too terribly fast myself. Thank you very much for watching and I hope you have a great day.
When I got my 21 RG CVO, I really wanted to put a stage 3 on it but opted to get the stage 2 instead and I’m glad I did. I consider my riding style to be moderately aggressive and I also like to cruise. My stage 2 gives me what I’m looking for w/o breaking the bank. So with that said, GREAT VIDEO! It’s always good to watch a video that I can relate to… ✌🏾
That's awesome man! I sure for could make use out of a Stage 2 but a 131 or a 135 is probably too much for me. I'm all for it if someone wants to go all out! Thank you very much for watching!
Yup. Me too. I think I will probably put an aftermarket cam in my Low Rider ST, but other than that I'm leaving the engine as-is. Thank you very much for watching. Have a great day!

Great common sense video. I live in East Tennessee. Ride an Indian Chieftain 111ci with a performance cam installed. That is all I need or want. My favorite part of riding is riding on the parkway or up Rutledge pike at speed. So peaceful
I have a 114 on my trike. It has plenty of power for me and my wife. I am going to upgrade to S&S cam chest kit with a .475 cam , plate and pump . This should last me for as long as I want to ride.!!
Ty, I agree with most everything you said. You raised a lot of points of why it may be good for some, and not for others. I have 2 CVO 117's at the present time and am very happy with them, but if I wanted extreme power and torque, I would buy a Triumph Rocket 3 (around 24K) with 160 hp out of the box and similar torque numbers. It doesn't run hot and is very reliable as I have owned the 1st gen Rocket in the past. Let me tell you it is stimulating to ride... Just my 2 cents... Enjoyed the video
You're right, I don't need either,. I also don't need the 850 whp in my diesel pickup, I only have a 124 S&S in my 2015 streetglide with 145 a piece to the wheel. I don't need it, but I can pass on back roads much easier with it
Most people will never use all the power a stock bike puts out. I learned with my 03 ultra there is such a thing as tooooo much. Gotta find the balance.
Cost, practicality and time? Cost = you only live once. Practicality = ???? you ride a motorcycle, isn't that self-explanatory? And Time = Have a dealer do it in the winter when times are slow for them and they might give you a break on labor. AND: having logged in excess of 20K miles on a crate 131 with an aftermarket cam and tuner, all I can say is that there's no replacement for displacement.
Reliability. We travel the country two-up with the side bags, trunk and trunk bag packed to the max on our Ultra Limited. I've got the Stage II in the 114 and although it has more power than we really use I still think about the "Cool Factor" of the 131 c.i. crate motor. Traveling all over the country and reliability over stock would be of concern plus.... I have to remind myself.....it's a Geezer Glide not a V-Rod, what am I trying to do here?? Lol
Great points there. Reliability versus the cool factor as you mentioned I will definitely pass on the 131 for now. Ride safe and thank you very much for watching!
New 2024 CVO will have a 121 CI Revolution liquid cooled engine. If you don't use, then don't get it. I have a 131 & LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. 134hp & 136tq.......& I use it. Could get more out of it with a cam, but I don't need it.
Hey there. Glad you’re happy with the upgrade! I think that’s awesome. I might do an upgraded cam in my Low Rider ST. Thank you very much for watching!
It'll never run like a sport bike. 117 CVO is strong. Just get the headers and dyno tune it to its full power. The problem is the delayed feel of the throttle. Even if you have the 131 or 135... if it's tuned from on a normal tuner device, you will still feel that lack of instant throttle and consistency. Dyno tune it professionally and you'll feel the difference, even on 114 stock.
That's very true. I just don't think I would ever get my moneys worth buying a 131 or 135. It sounds cool, but probably just not for me, but more power to anyone who wants to do it! Thank you very much!
This is the test: do you often open the throttle as far as it will go? If not, you are unlikely to utilize the extra power. Note, however, that extra power at low end is a different factor. If that feels good, then build away.
Those heavily upgraded engine modifications are just not my thing, but I do think they are super cool. If you got it....flaunt it! Thank you very much for watching. I appreciate your time today!
Anything over a 124 from what I've seen isn't reliable for touring. I know to many people that got bad builds from moonshine that's why I decided to not use them. And I don't trust my dearship to do it either. I'm not going to drop 5 grand for a cam upgrade, exhaust and tune and have issues bc they throw them together and don't do it right. That was moonshine quote for my bike.
Dang man. That is just too expensive for me. I really like my 117 as-is for the most part. It's plenty fast with lots of throttle left. I hope you're doing well and maybe I'll see ya soon!
@@TyFromTennessee people forget they are cruisers I do want a little more out of my 103. Your 114 all you need is a cam, exhaust ,high flow intake and a tune that will probably give you more power than you want lol. Cammed 114 is fast ask me how I know 😆
Thank you again Ty for your time and thoughts. Great video and topic. I'm sure it will get through to a lot of riders thinking of dropping all that cash only to "keep up with the Jones" and not really need it. Like you said , if you have unlimited resources then go ahead but if not then just get out and ride a road like you are on and let the wind blow your worries away 😎Safe riding Ty 🏍
I am in this boat currently. I just upgraded to stage 2 with a star 30/30 and jackpot header in the 23 Streetglide ST and the power itch got me. I think I am going to do it because there’s a few kits floating around for low cost and have an excellent mechanic with a very reasonable labor rate. I have been trying to decide on 131 vs 128? I know it’s only 3ci but for what I want to do with the potential of future modding should I got 131? I’d like to retain my 30/30 and think getting really big might be out running my cam. I plan to stay stock head for a bit (those are more pricy then the bore kits) Probably going to go 55i take and 5.5 injectors Going to chat with fuel Moto and get some guidance from those that are mired in informed then I
Those sound like some fantastic options. Right now I’m shopping around a Stage 2 for my Low Rider ST and recreated this video for that purpose. Thank you so much for watching. I appreciate your time today!
I'm not going to do any engine modifications on my 2020 CVO RG I did put Ohlins on the back Flo levers and bars suspension ergonomics and a nine inch klock windshield and Im good
My problem is that I take a lot of pride in not spending when I don’t need to - value/opportunity cost. Sort of a 1% er of the 1% er group. Being a real individual. Really don’t GASHIT what’s trending.
I hear ya. Value is largely subjective and different from person to person so I get it when people don’t want to spend a lot of cash. Thank you very much for watching!
The design and layout of the Harley power train dates back to the days of 35 or 40 horsepower. “Yes”, it has been strengthened, slightly improved from those days. However it is not designed for continuous 120 horsepower, plus high RPMs. Torque numbers over 125 or 130 will destroy the drive train in short order. So you spend a pile of money to transform a reliable user friendly motorcycle into a high strung, unreliable high dollar junk pile. If you are a unlimited horsepower and speed junkie go to the super sports bikes. In them 200 plus horsepower isn’t a problem.
Hey Walter. I appreciate your feedback and your thoughts on the topic. I probably won't ever go that route for a 135, but it sure would be fun. Thank you very much for watching! I appreciate your time today!
Do we really need bikes that are pushing the hp and torque of a car? As it is we leave cages in the rear view at stop lights and on the roll. The hp torque to weight ratio is where it’s at
Hey there! I bought the "Mustang Super Touring Seat" from Revzilla. I cannot say enough good things about this seat. It is so comfortable and big time game changer. Thanks for watching today!
There is no way an OCC motorcycle is anywhere near what they say they are worth! And no I do not need a 124, 128, 131, or a 135. Stock anything is all right for me 😁
I used to want a OCC chopper so bad, but I don't think I would take one now a days. I guess I'm just a bit older and wiser and I like my creature comforts. Stock is good for me too! Thank you very much for watching!
@Ty From Tennessee Shade tree surgeon and the Bert's Harley-Davidson has a raffle for an OCC 2021 Harley-Davidson. They claim it is worth $70000. Not in my book.
of course, in America, with your long straight lines and your heavy speed limits you don't need power. In fact a scooter or a moped would do the job. Here in Europe it is a dif. story......
Hey there! Some parts of the country have long straight roads but in my area, we have lots and lots of twisties for sure! Take care and thank you for watching!
Have them govern your bike down to 50 mph or whatever ever your states top speed is. That’s practical and you won’t ever speed! Check with the town marshal and see what he says about how fast your allowed to go.
The 103 in my Harley has the perfect amount of power to get me from point A to B. Why do people want to build a hotrod machine is beyond me. Just slow down and enjoy life and the scenery
That's a great perspective Darren. It's just not for me. When I'm touring I like to ride at my own pace and have a good time. Thanks for watching today!
Slow is boring and makes me flustered. Thats just me. But dropping $ to have a fast bagger when speed is cheap and more natural in other platforms is out of my scope.
I’ve had a 117 stage 4 and to be frank, it was a very fast bike. However, a 122 stock would’ve been just as much fun in my CVO Road Glide. I’m not sure anything over a 122 is really “necessary” unless you’re newly in from sports bikes? Nice vlog 👍
I agree. A 122 would most certainly be nice, but the 114 in my RG at plenty for me at the moment. Thank you very much for watching! I appreciate your time today!
I have spent thousands of upgrades especially engine. Engine upgrades the most expensive. Huge costs with not a huge gain in horsepower. I now buy bikes for the horsepower offered from the factory stock. You never get your money back when selling. I wish Harley would lighten their bikes with more carbon fiber, aluminum, and other lighter materials. A lighter bike helps handling, braking, and acceleration. Without stability control, wheelie control, cornering abs/TC you can not really feel full benefits of horsepower gains. Some of these sport bikes make over 200 horsepower and weigh only 400 pounds. The only way you can really ride these powerful Bikes are rider aids.
Isnt the weak link the drive belt. You have 1200 lbs of person and bike, 150hp, 130ft lb of torque. Seems the belt and rear pulley were never designed for this. If Harley offered a 200 HP cvo bagger, would you buy one? What would you do with it.
Hey John. I recently traded in my CVO and I don't think I will purchase another one. The CVO was a great experience, but probably won't go that way again. Thank you very much for watching!
I would love to put a 131 crate motor in my trike, but really, I’d rather have a reliable ride. I did add the Stage 2 cam along with the stage 1 changes, and that really helps. I added CoastalMoto wheels to my trike and that cost $3800 (don’t tell my wife!) so, add that to the cost of the Stage 1 & 2 and I am astonished!! Now I want the Legends suspension front and rear… 🤦🏻♂️ Does it ever end?
Haha. Don’t worry I won’t tell. Yeah man. Upgrades never end do they? You’ll love Legends if you get them. I have them on the front and rear of my CVO…. Total game changer. Thank you very much for watching!
Moonshine Harley is not an engineering company like HARLEY Davidson who has to follow all the test and safety standards. Hence anyone who purchase their custom kit are at the mercy of their trial and error. Any Harley stock has all the power you need on a road and it also like good. I really even don’t want the extra heat . Investing on more HP will lead to investing on more parts ( transmission to heat management). Harley motorcycles by itself need a lot of maintenance and if you put more kit then it equals even more maintenance and lot of time. Good thought in the vedio.

@MIKE WILL BIKE Ya man. I watched those every single time I saw it on the Discovery channel. So cool. Thanks for watching sir...
A CVO should come stock with a 131 in my honest opinion.
That would be fantastic! Thanks for watching
I agree, my 2018 CVO limited has the 117 ci. I would love to have a 131ci. At 44 k it should of had one. My concerns are with the oil pump. Told sump problems and failures by the dealership! Change the oil pump and upgrade the cam I was told.
Agreed the 135 or 131
My thoughts
Standard 114
Special 117
Cvo 135
With how much they cost, absolutely.
Hey Ray! I know man. This motorcycle hobby of ours can be so expensive! Thanks so much for your comment. I appreciate your support for the channel!
💯!!
Hahaha
My 103 Tc is plenty for me now- but we always look at the next size up! We have enough trouble with heat as it is! 😂
It was a 128 build, the price was $12,500
Wow! That’s a steep price but I bet it’s awesome. Do you feel it is worth the investment?
On the ride back up to Wisconsin I wasn't sure. When I was in Tennessee, I had ridden it just a bit with a helmet on. But the very first time I took it out back in Wisconsin. It was hard not to smile. Took me a second, but I realized I was smiling. At that point it was well worth it and I still hadn't really got on it at that point.
I had a Yamaha R1 in an R6 track bike for the last 22 years
So even though I got the Harley brand new 2021, it lost its luster pretty fast. Just wanted something with some good power for my riding style. It's not for everybody. but if I hadn't done it I would've sold the bike.
Power went from 79hp to 138 hp
Torque 101 to 150
@@TyFromTennessee
I talked to Jamie at fuel Moto. it would’ve been a whole lot cheaper, but the bike was brand new at the time and they need a year before they can get into the software.
Oh man, tha't's so true. The other parts and pieces have to be upgraded too. That would be an extra expense as well. Good points. See you at VAMM!
I’ve got an 03 Heritage Softail Classic 100 year Edition and I consider it a bagger,it has the 88B engine,1449 cc and it takes me Everywhere!
That's awesome man. Glad that you love your bike. Really that's all that matters. Take care, ride safe, and thank you for watching!
Thanks Ty for the response, and you as well as everyone else keep the rubber on the road and the shiny side up!! Be safe all!!
We built a o3 ultra its now 124 stroker i dont chace #s but the 131 better pack its lunch
@@tonyrhoton6613 Hopefully someday soon I’ll be able to demo ride a 131 or 135. Thanks Tony!
Funny you say this. I have a 06 Heritage with the 88 motor. Does everything I need it to do, and does it well. I do understand the hot rod game, been there done that with cars.
I did a full build on my 103 soft tail $4000 later I also told myself next time cam, slip-ons, air filter & tune call it a day…
I totally understand that. It's so expensive!!
131 upgrade was$5,100. Well worth the money with a factory warranty. Wyoming, South Dakota riding it’s a blast.
@@keithmauldin6815 not a bad price for that
@@keithmauldin6815 How much was the install and out the door?
I test rode a full performance bagger 131 full suspension etc. can't lie damn I'm hooked will build one eventually
I bet it's awesome. I have yet to ride a 131 but I sure hope I can soon. Thank you for watching!
Great topics and points to consider. Thanks for sharing Ty. Ride safe and enjoy your ride. 👍👊🇺🇸
Thanks man. I appreciate your time very much!
Should be titled "why I dont need a 131"
Umm....no. Thank you very much for watching!
I like my 114 on my street glide. Besides my big motor got me fired from being a leader in group rides with my friends. Haha
The 114 is fantastic. Oh man, what did you do?! ahahah. Thanks for watching!
I left my group behind. Lol
Can’t go wrong with Khrome Werks. I’ve found that on a stock M8, the DB reducer inserts make a world of difference in low to mid-range torque.
That sounds like an awesome setup. I hope to do something like that one day too. Thank you for watching!
Thank you very much for that. I sure would love the 135, but it comes with a heavy price tag. I appreciate your time today!
So true. I think the stock H-D engine has plenty of power, but I get the "want and need" to make it bigger and better. Thanks for watching man!
When you add a cam, lifters, pushrods, air filter, exhaust, compensator sprocket, dyno tune ... the bike still looks the same. And therefore wives of Harley owners just think that their husband is saving money by keeping the same bike for years to come. A win/win :)
Yeah, I guess that's one way to look at it too. hahahahah! Thank you very much for watching! I appreciate your time today!
I agree with you. My 2017 107 SG is perfect for me. If I needed more power, performance, speed, etc. I would choose another bike.
Hi Afonso! I think it for sure has the "cool factor", but I just would never touch that much power. Thank you for watching!
Our 09 Heritage has 120+ squared and it was worth every penny.
There ya go Thomas! Glad you love it. Ride safe and thank you for watching!
That's a great way to look at it, Kevin! Thank you very much for watching. I appreciate your time today!
I think there is a difference between want Vs need. I don’t need a 131 but if HD gave me one I would not complain. LOL
I like the comfort and looks things.
A 114 with a good aftermarket cam is what I got and that's all I need.
Yup.

So peaceful
Hey John! Is Rutledge Pike in Knoxville? I’m in the Ooltewah TN area. Thank you for watching!
Yes I live in rural Knox county
I have a 114 on my trike. It has plenty of power for me and my wife. I am going to upgrade to S&S cam chest kit with a .475 cam , plate and pump . This should last me for as long as I want to ride.!!
That’s awesome Rick! I would love to put a cam in my Low Rider ST. Thank you very much for watching!
Larry! I love the Triumph Rocket! Such an awesome bike. I hope to be able to demo one of those soon. Ride that thing safe! Thank you for watching sir!
You're right, I don't need either,. I also don't need the 850 whp in my diesel pickup, I only have a 124 S&S in my 2015 streetglide with 145 a piece to the wheel. I don't need it, but I can pass on back roads much easier with it
Hey Donald. I follow your logic sir. That 124 SG sounds like a lot of fun. Ride safe and have a great day!!
Most people will never use all the power a stock bike puts out. I learned with my 03 ultra there is such a thing as tooooo much. Gotta find the balance.
No doubt Andy. I just won't ever need that much power for sure. Thank you very much for watching!
Sounds like you are loving your upgrade. Ride safe and thank you for watching!
Yes, I absolutely enjoy Big Horsepower with my Fire Glide!
That's awesome! Have a good time, ride safe, and thank you very much for watching!
I hear ya… just did SE CAM.. and slip ones an air cleaner… 2017 ultra with 70z miles an not a lick of trouble .. 👍
That's awesome man! I need to see about putting an upgraded cam in my Low Rider ST. Thank you very much for watching!
You'll also have the cost of upgrading the suspension to be able to handle the torque and hp increase.
That is very true. Thank you very much for your observation. I appreciate your time and thank you for watching!
A nice cam and tune and pipe and suspension is all I need! Great video!
Yeah man. That doesn't sound bad at all. I gotta upgrade the suspension on my Road Glide. Thank you so much for watching!
I am also about 1 1/2 to 2 hours away from Moonshine. I go there occasionally myself.
Moonshine is a great deal ship. My experience with them has always been a good one. Thank you for watching!!
@@TyFromTennessee
Love the ST!!! Want one!!!
I have been happy with my25yr old Sportster with 400,000 mi on it on the original engine.
That’s awesome! Way to take good care of that bike!
Really good video Ty and I totally agree with you, right Safe
Thanks man. I appreciate that! See ya soon!!
That's great advice. Thank you very much for that!!
I don't see the performance going away , I think it's only going to get bigger . If people demand there is a company that will give it
That's very true. I just don't think I would ever get my moneys worth buying a 131 or 135. It sounds cool, but probably just not for me, but more power to anyone who wants to do it! Thank you very much!
@@TyFromTennessee you're welcome and a crate engine is a chunk of a bill 😅
This is the test: do you often open the throttle as far as it will go? If not, you are unlikely to utilize the extra power. Note, however, that extra power at low end is a different factor. If that feels good, then build away.
Those heavily upgraded engine modifications are just not my thing, but I do think they are super cool. If you got it....flaunt it! Thank you very much for watching. I appreciate your time today!
It's not about using the power, its knowing you have it,
That's a good perspective to have. Thank you for watching!
A solid video. Very informative. And fun to watch. Good job !!
Thank you very much! This video has got some attention since the new H-D engine options have arrived. I appreciate your time today!
You just made up my mind and I don't need any more power than the stage 2, I have now.
Hey John. For some people I'm sure it's a great move, but I just would never use that much power. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a great day!

Cammed 114 is fast ask me how I know 😆
I’ve heard of the moonshine issues
There’s videos on you tube about them
My fxlrs stage 2 is good for me ..
Also Ty what phone holder you running?
Hey Alfonso. I'm using the Quad Lock on both of my bikes. So far, it has held up exceptionally well.
Hey Tim! I agree with everything you just stated. I would love to do it, but would never even touch that much power. Thank you for watching!
I plan to stay stock head for a bit (those are more pricy then the bore kits)
Probably going to go 55i take and 5.5 injectors
Going to chat with fuel Moto and get some guidance from those that are mired in informed then I
Those sound like some fantastic options. Right now I’m shopping around a Stage 2 for my Low Rider ST and recreated this video for that purpose. Thank you so much for watching. I appreciate your time today!
I'm not going to do any engine modifications on my 2020 CVO RG I did put Ohlins on the back Flo levers and bars suspension ergonomics and a nine inch klock windshield and Im good
Hey Kevin. Some of those upgrades you listed I’m going to do as well. Thanks and have a great day.
I think you should also consider the diminished reliability
That’s a great call out Brett! Thank you very much for your comment. I appreciate your time.
Air cooled engines with added horsepower causes more heat. Reliability and durability is an issue.
Don't need either. My 103 roasts my right leg on rides. Cannot imagine the heat from those monsters.
That's right! One a hot day it can get rough! Thanks so much for your comment. I appreciate your support for the channel!
Do we really need bikes that are pushing the hp and torque of a car? As it is we leave cages in the rear view at stop lights and on the roll. The hp torque to weight ratio is where it’s at
Hey Greg. I think it's cool...really cool, but I just would never use that much power Thanks for watching today. I appreciate your time!
Everyone told meto put a 1200kit in my Sportster.I said when it wears out 25 years later I am still waiting.
Glad you made that bike your own! Thank you for watching!
Yeah can lead to other problems as previously stated. You play you may pay !
Hi Michael. For now I'm just sticking to the stock motor in my Glide. That is plenty for me. Thank you very much for watching!
I believe the Stage 3 for a 107 is now a 119. It use to be a 117. The 114 and the 117 can get a Stage 3 which would be a 122. (Screamin’ Eagle)
Thanks for the clarification. That good info.
I’ve got a stage 2 on my Sport Glide, love it😎
Awesome Jim. Glad you're happy with your bike. That's all that matters sir!
That's why I punched my 2019 CVO SG out to a 128ci (Felt I didn't need a 131+).
There ya go Jason. Sounds awesome man. Thank you for watching!
I think a well perked motor with a 6 speed would do
I think you are correct. Sounds good to me!
Lmao I’m still riding a ripping 88 and loving every minute of it
There's nothing wrong with that if that's what you love. Thank you for watching!
Great points 👍🏻
Ty ….where did you find a riders back rest for your CVO? I have been looking endlessly for one and, just can’t find one!! Please do share ..Please..
Hey there! I bought the "Mustang Super Touring Seat" from Revzilla. I cannot say enough good things about this seat. It is so comfortable and big time game changer. Thanks for watching today!
From the people I talked to, the larger engine is for bragging rights. Usually they have low mileage, but they make it too bike night every month 😂😂😎
Some people love it and that's cool, but it's just not for me. Thank you very much for watching! I appreciate your time today!
Nice topic.
I really like your mirrors, what brand are they?
Here is the link to the mirrors. I hope this is helpful and thank you for watching! --> bityl.co/HV1K
of course, in America, with your long straight lines and your heavy speed limits you don't need power. In fact a scooter or a moped would do the job. Here in Europe it is a dif. story......
Hey there! Some parts of the country have long straight roads but in my area, we have lots and lots of twisties for sure! Take care and thank you for watching!
@@TyFromTennessee thanks, would have been nice to show us.
I figured I'd leave my Harley stock, the most I could ever hope to have is a fast Harley, I'd never have a fast motorcycle.
There's nothing wrong with stock if that you want for your bike! The stock 114 and 117 is plenty enough power for me. Thank you for watching today!
Have them govern your bike down to 50 mph or whatever ever your states top speed is. That’s practical and you won’t ever speed! Check with the town marshal and see what he says about how fast your allowed to go.
I don’t speed much as it is. I take my time on my bike and just enjoy the journey. Thank you so much for watching!!
what you really need is any harley with a trask turbo on it
That sounds like a great idea to me! Thank you for watching!
Welp.... I have a 2021 LRS with a 131 (148hp/154tq)... hopefully by the end of the year I'll have a RG ST with a 135....😎 🏍💨
There ya go! If that's what you love to do then go for it!! Thanks so much for your comment. I appreciate your support for the channel!
@@TyFromTennessee I'm a gearhead... always in the quest for more HP... can't help it !!!🤷
@@pachy44 That’s not a bad problem to have! Go for it friend!!
I have a 107 stage 2 . I want a 124 S&S kit. But I had a 117 with a stage 2 I would be good .
All of those sound like good choices and would be a lot of fun. Thank you so much for watching!
The only way you can really ride these powerful
Bikes are rider aids.
I’m looking forward to the possibility of some engine upgrades on my LRST. Thank you for the feedback. I hope you have a great day!
Some very helpful information there. I appreciate the well thought-out comment. Have a great day and thank you for watching!
My 1980 fxwg with an 80 ci works great for me
Hey Brian! All that matters is that you were happy with your motorcycle and that is excellent. Have a great day, sir.
@@TyFromTennessee I bought brand new and I'm going to hand it down to my son one day it should be in the family for 100 years or so thanks
