Really fun video James. Thank you for the shoutout. I messed up that last climb/sprint up to the line too lol. From watching your vids, I've got a feeling that you're not long for cat C but its a pleasure to have raced with you while you are. :)
There is something in the way you do the commentary, even if the race itself is not much interesting, it makes me watch it with pleasure. Really keeps me going in anticipation for my hernia surgery after which I dream to go back to training and racing myself :)
@@lolczyslaf thanks for that compliment! I hope your hernia surgery goes well! Things like that, we know are physically rough, but can be equally as rough emotionally and psychologically. I will keep putting out more content in the hopes that it keeps you looking up and forward! Take care 🙏
@@thespartanbishop 😂😂😂😂😂😂 so will everyone else... Dude, watching it back, there was clearly a generous window to start the sprint and I missed the whole damn thing lol. I'll get better. I peeked at 0.5km to go and then got tunnel vision on the people in front of me and by the time I peeked up again, it was under 200m to go. Le sigh 😔
@jameskim3 That why I started recording and streaming my races, just to go back and watch those little parts where it got away from me to see what I could do better
@@PedalToProgress haha thanks! I wonder if everyone likes the "nerd dad" vibe 😅! I'll try to mix up some of my training/racing for consistently interesting content.
5:06 I prefer the draft boost for flat sprints. The uphill at the end is really short, so the sprint will still be high speed, which means the draft boost will be very effective. As you write yourself, using it with 300m to go would have been perfect! You're in the back of the group, so if you use the draft boost and open your sprint, you can "slingshot" yourself through the group, putting you in an excellent position to win.
@CycleWithMatts or even sooner! I've done 30 sec all out sprints before outside. I thought his name was familiar so I shouted him out during the race haha
I would not call that a botched race... as you said, you learned something. You know better now where to start the sprint. And you got in a solid workout before you even started the VO2 max stuff. Plus you got a new max power! All good things and progress.
9:32 do you think you were looking TOO much at the distance left instead of watching the opponent’s sprints around you? Sometimes…often times, you don’t get to dictate your perfect sprint distance - just gotta react to the opponent sprints?
@@PedalToProgress actually, I peeked when it was around 0.5km to go and then I fixated on the people in front of me. Probably missed the guys way up front taking off and then when I looked up again, it was under 200m to go 😂. I totally get what you're saying though and that could be an issue too. The finish, being way faster than my race on Monday on BRAEkfast Crits and Grits, threw me off a little. In my mind, I was still interpreting the speed of that finish and applying it to this race for some reason and it caught me off guard. All good though, I'll get it next time! I may do this race again on Saturday or Sunday - looking for redemption.
Zwift racing is full of ups ... and downs!!! Crit racing can be brutal at the finish and however good you seem to have done up until that point, I normally get my butt handed to me! I did this race in the lowly 0-180 category on Monday and got dropped just before the final hill to take 5th.
@@jameskim3 It sure is James! I was in Cat C last spring, but my training took a hit so I'm starting from the bottom again, but then the only way is up 🤣
James, I agree you botched it...but there will be other chances-gotta learn the courses and as I said previously-know when to start your sprint-you entered the volcano (~500m from finish) and there is a quick down and then it's all slight uphill to the end-tough to pass people from 13-14th position, so you need to stand up and get some power to get to 3rd wheel or so by 250 M out, when the sprint starts--that's about 400w or so for you from 500>250, then all out for the final 20 seconds---less than a minute of super hard work but oh so poorly timed--hahaha
@@daletocemd4781 thanks for the breakdown! Yeah, totally botched. I can't even say anything against that hahaha. FULL BOTCHERY 😆. I was definitely not honed in entirely. The good news is that it can't get any worse than that, right? 😉😅
I did this course a month ago-1/2 hour race should be about 100% of ftp or more, I hit ~100 %, you were 86%...oh boy....drafting can save a lot of energy so that means you should have alot in the tank to crush the finish!!
@@daletocemd4781 my first Zwift race ever, when I had that seed score of 180, I raced C and attacked multiple times in a short race to get a better workout and my IF came out to 1.05 hahaha. I'm capable of it, but the low IF in this one is an indication of good efficiency - just botched the end 😭😄
@@daletocemd4781 haha it feels nice to be at the pointy end of the race sometimes. I will race up with the Bs maybe on these flatter races first and see how it goes. Zwift seems to be reworking the categories by the end of the year too. There are def C racers who are still stronger than I am for sure - you can just look at the wkg and power numbers haha. Hopefully, Zwift reworking it will continue to help everyone get a good experience. Mine has been fun so far! And I don't do this to win. I do it to learn and push myself. ✌️
