    This discussion didn't put enough respect on Martin Lawrence's name. Before this movie, Martin was primarily known for comic roles. He was very funny in this movie, but he also proved that he could play an action hero. Will was great in this film, but Martin carried it more than him. If you noticed, Blue Streak was very similar to Bad Boys 1 (opening heist, assuming another identity, police interrogations, footchase, drug bust, final car chase, final standoff), and Martin was the main star in that film. And Martin probably got top billing over Will in Bad Boys 1 because he was, at the time, seen as the next Eddie Murphy, who Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson had success with in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise.

    • @myronsanders4563
      @myronsanders4563 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Martin was the More established Celebrity at the time, was also more "Adult" between the 2. Also His show was more Urban. Will Smith was PG level around the time the Movie was Made, and wasn'ta Big Star around that time. It's Strange now, but back then if you remembered when this Movie came out, it made perfect sense Why Martin got 1st Billing

    • @mistercool3859
      @mistercool3859 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@myronsanders4563 You made some good points. Martin did more adult humor in his comedy and on his show, while Will's show and rap music was more clean. So it makes sense that Martin would be top-billed in this R-rated film. Plus, Martin was more like Eddie Murphy, which is something I think producers Bruckheimer and Simpson wanted to capitalize on. I think Will was more mainstream popular than Martin around this time because his sitcom was more popular than Martin's sitcom and his rap music was big, but Martin was featured in more movies than Will at this time, such as Boomerang, House Party 1 and 2, and Do The Right Thing. He even had his own movie Talking Dirty After Dark, his own standup film You So Crazy, and he was a Def Jam host, which gets into your point about Martin being more adult and urban than Will. Prior to Bad Boys 1, Will had a small part in Where The Day Takes You, he was the comic sidekick to Nia Long in Made in America, and had one lead role in the drama Six Degrees of Separation. Plus, Martin got into acting earlier than Will by playing a regular on What's Happening, Now? in 1987, which was three years before The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air premiered. It just made sense to make Martin Lawrence more the lead than Will Smith in Bad Boys 1.

    Pursuit of happyness has become an underrated classic movie and performance in my opinion. There’s genuinely only a handful of guys that could’ve sold that performance that was completely reliant on you having complete sympathy for the character but also seeing that he’s at times the architect of his own demise, there’s legitimately maybe 5 actors that could’ve done that final scene and sold the emotion like he did. And also Believe me I 100% get it I am legend was more of a blockbuster movie but I feel like that movie is a legitimately good movie and whatever you think of that movie I have no problem With anyone disagreeing cause I know it’s more of a mixed review type movie but you’re not telling me his performance alone wasn’t amazing again probably only Denzel at that time could’ve done what will was doing in that movie in terms of his acting choices and how he went about portraying the character no actor can portray vulnerability and self doubt like will Smith

    @1:23:50 Marcus' kids do come back, at the very least for "Bad Boys II". When Mike & Syd (Gabrielle Union) have lunch with Marcus' family in the backyard, the 3 kids are there. And of course, we get the infamous Reggie scene as well..... "Bad Boys For Life", Marcus' daughter comes back since she both has a kid and gets married to Reggie. However, Marcus' older sons aren't at the wedding for some reason. Though, if you look closely in the background of scenes in Marcus' house/kitchen, you do see a picture of the 3 siblings.

    • @mistercool3859
      @mistercool3859 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ninobless6919 Marcus (Martin Lawrence) had to keep the "Mike Lowrey" act going. When Julie called the police department, there was only one cop she trusted: Mike Lowrey (Will Smith). Mike was the cop Max told her about, and after seeing (ex) cop Eddie Dominguez snorting heroin and working with drug dealers, Julie had no intention of seeking protection from a cop other than Mike. When Marcus tries to take her into protective custody, Julie said "no way, I'm only dealing with you" (thinking Marcus was Mike). That is why Marcus had to be Mike and Mike pretended to be Marcus because if she knew that she was being lied to by either or both cops, she would have ran off on her own (like she tried to do before the big footchase), and Mike and Marcus would no longer have a witness.

    I remember being 12 years old and living in Miami at the time when this Movie came out. This was mindblowing to a bunch of Middle School students like us at the time since both Martin and Will Smith had hit Urban TV Comedies and we get to see them both Curse and Blow Things up. Plus it was filmed in Miami, which was new for all of us (John Salley played for the Heat at this time as well. How he got his role in the Film) Looking at it now I can tell that this was destined for Disaster under any other circimstance, but Hiring both Martin and Will and having a Daring 1st Time Director in Micheal Bay is what Saved it. Flaws and all, Still a Fun Movie that I still like better then the 2 Sequels. Also Tea Leoni was AWFUL in this Movie. Super Annoying. Definitely would have re-casted her
    Also, Bill Simmons knows Nothing about Miami Culture

    • @mistercool3859
      @mistercool3859 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was the same age as you. 12 going on 13 and in the 7th grade. It remember my brother telling me about how Will and Martin were going to play cops in a movie. I thought it was going to be strictly a comedy. But the trailers I saw blew my mind. I loved how serious the movie looked and how serious Martin and Will looked. The close-up on Martin's face when one of Fouchet's henchmen shoots through Max's apartment. Will saying "Sup?" when holding the shotgun. Martin telling Julie, "You ain't with the bad guys now. You're with the cops." Martin jumping on the cab. I was completely sold!

    • @mistercool3859
      @mistercool3859 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only thing I saw Tea Leoni in before this movie was the sitcom Flying Blind, where she played the sexy redhead girlfriend of Corey Parker's nerdy character. I honestly was surprised to see her in a movie with two black leads, based on seeing her in Flying Blind. But I liked her in this movie. We get to see Martin and Will save her fine ass throughout the movie, and I thought she was pretty funny, particularly in her scenes with Martin. You could tell that Tea really bonded with Martin and Will. I think she should have had a cameo in Bad Boys For Life. Same with Nestor Serrano.

    • @myronsanders4563
      @myronsanders4563 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tea Leoni was basically the Megan Fox of the 90s (Not a Coincidence that both would be in Micheal Bay Movies) who's only jobs are to be lifeless love interests with blank expressions on their face and only jobs are to be good looking Women. Even watching this for the 1st time as a kid I thought she stuck out like a Sore Thumb. Plus her character is Dumb. Putting herself in Danger because she keeps wandering off. Even back as a kid I thought they should have recasted that part
