I was an extra in the stadium in this. They offered free lunch and dinner to the local schools to get extras. It was pretty cool until they explained we had to split up white/black. I was proud at how uncomfortable everybody was splitting up like that.

“We blitz all night!” followed by the big hits montage, is one of the most powerful scenes! How did they not list that?? I’ve watched it multiple times pre-game to get hyped!
I’ve no idea how that goes unmentioned here. Scrubs the entire podcast ignoring that.
They leaned so far into/against Patton’s speech leading up to that scene that it made me sick.
This movie is in the “Actors Pushing 30 Unconvincingly Playing Teens” Hall of Fame. That’s why they look so old in the ten-years-later funeral scene.

My head football coach in high school gave me Coach Boone's "I lost my Mother and my father in the same week" line and I told him I meet his Mom after one of the games the year before and he was pissed I ruined his Coach Boone moment.
Taye Diggs (Best Man, How Stella got her groove back) is the coach in All American, not Omar Epps (Juice)

We went and saw this movie, as a team, in the theater back in high school. And because one of the kids on the teams dad owned the movie theater, we went back and watched it in theater again the following year lol fast forward one more year and that kid's dad brought a projector with the movie to the school's auditorium and we watched it as a team one more time... we did win state each of those years too lol

May have missed it but I don't think they brought up how "Raycist" intentionally missed the block that got Rev hurt, which led to Gary finally getting Raycist cut from the team.
Shea seemed so taken back by the hating of this he wasn't his usual happy go lucky self.
Haven't seen one minute of this movie and this is still highly enjoyable.

Love the podcasts, just want to know what are you waiting for Gladiator is rewatchable to the extreme. In fact it is on BBC America right now and it is scene after scene of greatness. Best line “ Shadows and Dust”, “ busy little bee”, “ he was a soldier of Rome, honor him”, “ not yet, not yet”, “ are you not entertained”, “my name is Maximus Decimus Meridius...”? My favorite “ it vexes me, I am terribly vexed”

How can you trash this movie. Everything is just where it needs to be. Its one the best football movies I’ve seen, next to Friday night lights. It’s just a perfect movie. Not a great one but perfect for what it needs to be.
I love you guys but I just gotta point out something that makes zero sense to me. Around 28 mins they talk about how Disney cuts these scenes to make it seem like they ‘solved’ racism and how they’re all ‘happy on the bus’. You guys literally acknowledge how racist meets them when they come home from their retreat though? at least be fair. And then talk about how the movie actually does show how hard it is for them to be friends

Bill should fire whoever the sound guy was in this. The volume levels between the three of them are completely out of whack...
Bill is trying too hard to tear apart this movie when you need to take it for what it is. A very fun movie to watch with some great acting for a Disney film and a soundtrack that fits the storytelling to a tee. You can’t analyze it like it’s Schindlers List. Also, learn how to pronounce Gary Bertier, not hard if you actually rewatched the movie.

This movie is based on a true story in which a great football team and a great football team combined to make a great football team. It was not a Cinderella story. Yes, I realize the integration storyline is the main idea, but "based on a true story" is usually nonsense.

I understand that you want a movie that's claiming to be based on true events to be reasonably accurate but it's also a movie. The decisions will be made in order to have a flowing narrative, and for the most dramatic effect. The come back in the final game is more interesting than them just creaming the other team. The accident is irrelevant if it happened after the game. Four daughters isnt as impactful as one. Its all about making the movie make sense over telling reality. Noone wants to watch a film about an asshole coach and a team that crushed everyone....that jst douchey bragging!
I dont know - Driven was intresting movie.
I feel as though Mahershala Ali might be the only actor I could see playing the Denzel role. He has the intimidation aspect that rembert refers to and the way he carries himself in most other roles there’s a bit of accountability and cohesiveness that I could see him matching the performance of Denzel.

I guess part of the charm with Shea is his child-like enthusiasm for movies and sports. But I don't want to see movies or really anything through his eyes.
Let me guess, The Ringer staff magically found a black person to discuss this movie about race. Aside from Wesley Morris (who doesn't work at the Ringer), they only seem to allow their black employees to discuss "black" films.

Sorry, didnt really care for this. It was an hour of try hard obnoxious comments with very little substance. It's sad too because this is one of my favorite movies and there's virtually no reactions to it on youtube so you kinda missed out on doing something no one else is by having too much patter.
