I use the transfer pump that I bought at Harbor Freight to empty my gas tank. Then I start it up and let it run out of gas. The pump is powered by D cell battery and works great. Nice video, Paul.
I took over my brother-in-law's metal scrap business which keeps me busy. I also got Shingles in July. I'm still not completely over the Shingles. Anyway, I've been so busy I hardly have the time to mow lawn...
My doctor started me on a steroid for something else and 3 days later the Shingles exploded! Lesson learned - if you are over 50 get the shingles vacx.
Thanks for making this video. It is for me a good refresher course plus I picked up a tip or two such as using the two wrenches on the oil drain pipe and the paint stir sticks. I guess it is time to start to get my machines ready while the weather is still comfortable, Cheers.

I use 91oct non ethanol fuel plus I even add stabil to it at the end of winter so I should be good. I will be replacing the oil though.

Yep, got my Toro Power Max HD 1232 out and changed the oil and gave it a good looking over. Checked the tire pressure as well. I have a cover for mine, so it stays clean during the off season. Like many out there, I use non ethanol fuel along with one ounce of Sea Foam per gallon of fuel. Been using Sea Foam in everything for years. It was good to see you again Paul, looking forward to what every Mother Nature has in store for us. My machine is going on its third year. Not many hours on it due to mild winters here in southeastern MI. Could that change this winter?? We are overdue, that is for sure. Have a save and enjoyable winter everyone.
I have a Toro Snowblower (252cc) (model 38805) that I’ve only turned on for a few minutes during a tune-up. I never had the chance to use it since we didn’t get much snow, so it has remained unused for about four years. The tires still have their “hairs,” and the oil is still clear. Recently, I took the carburetor apart and cleaned it out, and I use 4-cycle ethanol-free fuel to help minimize buildup. By the way, I paid $45 for the snowblower.
I really recommend Sea-Foam as a fuel preservative. The fuel preservative made by Toro is very similar to Sea-Foam. A lot of small engine mechanics don’t like Sta-Bil because it loses its effectiveness as it ages.
If you have a snowblower with a fuel shutoff (Ariens and Toro) I recommend putting two tablespoons of SeaFoam in the fuel tank, fill the tank, start the engine, let it run for a few minutes, then turn the fuel shutoff off and let the engine run out of fuel. This clears all the fuel out of the carb and coats the interior to prevents oxidation. If your snowblower is still running you can use that ratio to clean the carb. If your snowblower is newer than 2010 I recommend replacing the carb. Today's jets and ports are so small that it's is very hard and almost impossible to clean them out for most people. Most of the older carbs from side-valve engines can be cleaned and/or rebuilt.
Thanks for the video, Paul. I purchased a new Ariens Deluxe 28 SHO last year. Due to the mild weather and lack of snow in our last winter I only used it for about 2 hours total last winter. Would you recommend changing the oil at this point?
I have a Toro Power Max 826 OHAE snowblower. When i use it, the axle slides to the left & my left tire stops moving. The axle seems to just freely move side to side. The left tire (axle) will be way out to the left side. My right tire engages all the time. Any ideas? Thanks

I don't have a video on that specific snowblower but I do have one on the electric version. The transmission is the same inside. Hello Paul Can you tell me the difference between the Ariens deluxe 28 SHO with 301 cc and other deluxe 28 SHO with 306 cc motors ? the 301 cc has orange sliding engine controls besides the 306 cc has the black controls, i dont know which is what, which is the older version ? Thanks ! Pete
It appears the 2024 models now have the 301cc engine. Ariens sites still shows the Model #921048 as the current model but they usually don't update their site until after EXPO which is next week. The newest model has an Ariens logo on the belt cover, an orange dash and LED light. @@angelabarnes1547 The time you use a snowblower, there is no dust in the air. When you have a device on which attachments can be changed (lawn mower, sweeper, plow, tiller), these have air filters.
I know, after watching all those TikTok videos your attention span is too short to listen to the whole story. I've been hounding my nephews about it and a couple are finally realizing they can concentrate longer when they get off that site 😀

@@PaulSikkema Be careful, Paul. Shingles are a sign of too much stress. I had them with 22 and with 62 in spring this year.

Probably the rubber flap needs to be conditioned with silicone spray. I have the plastic chute which works great.

Some Toro snowblowers come with heat warmers. That should be tested.

No, snowblowers don't have air filters - and they don't have automatic chokes.
