I passed my driving test yesterday with 4 minors first time! I took 13 lessons in the space of 6 weeks and It was honestly the best feeling. It isn’t that different to driving lessons depending on how your instructor teaches you. Focus on doing mock tests (atleast 5 before your test) and good luck!
Thanks for all the videos! I just passed my test yesterday with only 2 minors. First time! I was so nervous and your advice and positive energy really helped me focus. What really helped is keeping in mind that you don't have on big long drive where no mistakes need to be made. It's broken up into bitesize chunks. You get maybe 5-10 minutes of driving (maximum!) before you will be asked to do something else. It's really manageable if you just find out ahead of time how the test will be structured and then practice each part. This is how my test was stuctured: Tell me question for starters, then a show me question (these are easy peasy if you look them up beforehand), then you just follow the examiners directions for about 5-10 minutes, they will ask you to pull over (don't hit the curb) and then leave, maybe another 5 minutes of driving, now it's time to park up! I had to do the parallel parking which was really not bad at all (practice this in the car you'll take your test in. Also if you think you're going to hit the curb you are allowed to pull foward and reposition a little and try again), now if you didn't hit the curb you're more than half way there. There's an 80% chance you'll have to follow the satnav, if not you need to follow signs somewhere. Before you know it you'll notice that you're almost back to the test centre. Now, park up in the easiest available space, nose in is fine and take a big breather. That's it. As long as you didn't make any huge mistakes and you know how to drive safe then you'll have passed! If you didn't then don't worry. At the end of the day they just want to make sure you're safe on the road, it's really important so check those mirrors and blindspots! My driving instructor was was tougher and scarier than the examinar but at the end of the day you're paying them to make you the best driver possible. They will teach you the best practice but it's not the absolute only way to drive safely. I would often check my blindspots starting from the wrong side when pulling out, but I just made sure to double check the most vital blindspot before leaving. This isn't the 100% best way but it's safe and that's enough to get your license! Best of luck to anyone who read this :)
Great tips, I did some commentary driving on my test and the examiner was saying how much they love that as they get a better idea of your awareness and planning. Mine was so friendly and we had some great chats and jokes, it was nice he said at the end he could have had a mug of tea with him and wouldn’t have spilt it as I was a calm driver. I actually thanked him after for being so nice and putting me at ease. I also commented about appropriate speed on say a dual carriageway where I could have been at 60mph but due to ridiculous levels of roadworks didn’t get past 45mph, felt at least I’d said what I would do in normal driving conditions. Since passing I set mini targets and ones been gradually slowing before say a 30mph stretch or lights so I’m not using the brakes too much.
Best wishes mate! Remember forward planning all the time, I advice commentary for this as this will help the examiner get an understanding into your thought process and it will keep you focussed, even when you make mistakes. You'll smash this test mate, I believe in you! You can do anything that you put your mind to! 😊
Thanks for your videos they have really helped me in passing my test yesterday. I was doing a mixture of commentating and talking to the examiner and it really helped! They are only human and from my experience really nice.
I tried the commenting today whilst driving to work with my wife as a guide. It made a huge difference to nerves, reacting to the hazards etc plus everything that needs to be done becomes automatic. Such a great tip
09:00 POLITENESS definitely manners don’t cost anything. Don’t need to kiss ass or anything but please and thank you go a long way. More inclined to be nice back and make you feel so much more at ease.
@@DrivingSchoolTVtotal of 2 minors, not bad considering I had to jump straight out of a 4 hour drive in a big van, and straight to the test centre. Got a minor for awareness and planning because I missed a sat nav turning, literally 30 seconds from the end of the sat nav section, didn't think they'd give a minor for that, maybe they expect better from an adi 🤷
Do you have any pupils that have passed and have driving anxiety? I live in Ireland, which is.. pretty similar to UK when it comes to driving and I have crippling anxiety, even though I passed first time. Been trying to force myself to do little trips, and while I feel that I'm slowly getting more confident I'm still noticing that I try to avoid it unless absolutely necessary. Would make for a good video :)
Have you seen any studies/evidence proving that dry steering is actually bad for modern cars, or is it all "common sense"? I can't find any studies etc. My partner has been driving for 17 years (old Ford Ka, and 2012 Honda Civic), and has always dry steered for reverse manoeuvres, and never had mechanical problems with anything steering related - also hasn't had to replace tyres overly frequently. I can see many others online saying the same thing (with lots of people ridiculing them). I'm learning to drive, and it seems to me that for parallel park and reverse bay park, it's much easier to do a consistent setup and all observations correctly with dry steering, since it eliminates the variables of how quickly I steer or what speed I'm going while steering.
@@DamianC_Official omg Yes they really are!! How fair dyu think it is that once you pass your test and get your ps you’re still so restricted on what you can do? Over here when you pass you doing even have to wear ps and display you’ve only just passed!

Love video
Just to ask for a point of clarification, if we're unsure on what the examiner has asked us to do, can we ask them what they mean?
