Lloyd (John Cusack) nervously tries to convince Diane Court (Ione Skye) to go out with him.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Ione Skye plays Diane Court, high-school valedictorian on the verge of heading to England on a prestigious scholarship. This is especially thrilling to Diane's divorced father, James (John Mahoney), who has always shared a special relationship with the girl, less father/daughter than friend/friend. When Diane begins dating irresponsible army brat Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack), her father despairs at her choice of an "underachiever." Pressured by her dad to break off the relationship, Diane spends the rest of the summer being pursued by the lovestruck Lloyd, who does everything he can to win her back. Diane finally realizes there's more to life than perfection when her sainted father comes under the scrutiny of the IRS.

Didn't know John Cusack when I started watching the movie back then. But....... I fell in love with him quite instantly! Stupid maybe, but he appeared so naturely. Like he wasn't acting at all. Really crazy, never had a crush on a moviestar like that earlier. :-)

Some men are like that they feel like a sick puppy when they ask you out. And when they don't like you anymore, they treat you like nothing.
Cut off before the BEST part of that scene - Lloyd picks up his nephew, holds him out horizontally at his waist and strums him like a guitar while saying, "thank you little man!"

I watched this Movie at the Theater with Diane Thomas, who was a very pretty Respiratory Therapist from Ladonia, Texas in Dallas, Texas.
Therapist is a compound word of the + rapist
@@omegamanGXE There was this nut that worked at the 7 eleven years ago, that looked at my name tag for a while as I stood there in front of the line to pay for my items, he stare at the word Therapist and finally said. The rapist, I’d never put that together before. Good one.

She still dated him despite initially being unimpressed with his looks, but decided to give it a try anyway because of his wit, energy and enthusiasm and ended up falling in love with him in the end. These days, there’s literally no hope for the Lloyds of this world. They’d be perceived as a ‘creep’ or ‘stalker’ for pursuing the girl they like in the same manner as Lloyd here. I was only a baby in the 80’s but by God how I wish I was living as an adult in that time instead of today 😞😞

The problem with all these eighties movies, these so-called comedies, is they think that quick talking and little weird turns of phrase here and there passes for humour. I think, ultimately, cocaine might be to blame for that.
