  • Graves Disease is an autoimmune disease for which treatment remains less than perfect. Patients with Graves Disease often have to undergo difficult treatment regimens to control their disease. In other cased they are compelled to take medication for the duration of their lives. But recent advances in the understanding of the pathophysiology of Graves Disease have made it possible to follow new therapeutic paths in the quest to develop more effective and convenient modalities of treatment. New biotechnology and biochemical procedures have broadened the scope of possibilities for the development of novel therapeutic interventions in Graves Disease. Many of these new techniques have already been tried in studies in patients with Graves Disease and have shown strongly positive results. As things stand, scientists are on the cusp of a major breakthrough in the treatment of Graves Disease. These new therapies will be more specific and will more precisely address the underlying causes of Graves Disease. These are exciting times for patients with Graves Disease because the new therapeutic interventions are likely to be far more effective and may even effect permanent cures without the inconvenience of surgery or radioactive medications.

      Hello Lisareynolds4545, unfortunately, these drugs are still in the trial phase, and it could be a little while before they hit the market. Let's hope the time span is not too long. Thanks for watching.

      Hello, thank you for sharing with us. What was your TSH when you were first diagnosed? The TSH is the best indicator of your progress. The current TSH is high, which is inconsistent with Graves. Unless your treatment has pushed you into hypothyroidism. These are questions best discussed with the doctor treating you, because he knows how the diagnosis was made, what your symptoms are, and your medical history. Thank you for watching.

      Hello, unfortunately these treatments are still in their experimental stages. Hopefully, within the next few years, we should have some of these drugs on the market. Teprotumumab is a newer medication that was approved for thyroid eye disease. It can provide treatment for one of the most severe symptoms of Graves’ Disease: the eye symptoms. Thank you for watching.

      I believe the real culprit is vitamin D deficiency and lacks of sleep.

      Hello, unfortunately, I haven't seen any new papers reporting new breakthrough discoveries in this area. This does not however mean that the interest in this area has diminished. There are ongoing studies seeking effective immunological treatments for Graves'. I am confident that in the near future, we will see the introduction of these therapies. Thank you for joining the discussion. Thank you for watching.

      @@DrKevinLowe I’ve read Batoclimab. They are on phase 2 clinical trials.

    • @DrKevinLowe
      @DrKevinLowe  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, Batoclimab uses a novel approach to suppress the immune response. One shortcoming is that it suppresses IgG as a class and is therefore not specific as say K1-70 therapy that directly targets the TSH receptor. For more information see: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9305464/pdf/CEN-96-878.pdf
      The European Thyroid journal also has this article that provides a summary of the paths that are being investigated: etj.bioscientifica.com/view/journals/etj/9/1_Suppl/ETJ508789.xml

      @@DrKevinLowethank you so much. This is very helpful. I was waiting for Batoclimab immunotherapy, only to find out that the on-going drug development is for TED or Thyroid Eye Disease. I don’t have TED and not all Graves patients has TED 😢 I really hope sooner there is another option other than losing our thyroid gland.
