  • PFAS or per or polyfluoroalkyl substances were discovered in the 1930s. Since that time, they have been used in a broad variety of manufactured products and for various industrial purposes. These chemicals have been linked to a variety of diseases, and for that reason several of them, including PFOA and PFOS, were withdrawn in most part from use in manufacturing. There were replaced by GenX and PFBS. There are still, however, thousands of newer PFAS that are used in consumer products globally. WE need to be aware of the dangers of PFAS and the sources of exposure in our surroundings, in order that we can avoid these chemicals to the best of our ability. Are there any conditions that may signal exposure to high levels of PFAS? This video discusses that topic and provides viewers with a list of 5 likely scenarios in which they can suspect adverse effects stemming from PFAS. The list is not exhaustive, but gives viewers a good indication of when to take stronger action in preventing exposure to these ubiquitous chemicals.

I served in the Navy and the base i was stationed on is heavily contaminated with pfas and pfao. I've been dealing with bowel problems since my time in the Navy. I have no family history of anything like this. It is confirmed that NAS Oceana had this stuff everywhere the ground water, the soil, the air, and the water we drank and washed in. I only found out about the contamination after recently getting diagnosed with colitis and looking up on the internet. I spent 15 years going to the VA with bowel issues and they never once mentioned colitis. They always just gave me meds and and send me on my way. After a few years it got worse its gotten so bad I recently passed out from the pain while on the toilet. My wife had to call an ambulance to take me to the ER. It only took them about 3 hours to diagnose me with a form of non-infectious colitis. It took them 3 hour what the VA couldn't do in 15 years. I looked up how this can effec the digestive system and it looks bad. I am planning to address this with my doctors and file a claim with the VA. I am also looking into the class action lawsuit that was filed against The base in 2020 for PFAS contamination. The VA was a bit rude about it told me the burden of proof is on me. So I am seeking a Doctor that will do some tests and hopefully write me a nexus letter if he thinks my condition is linked to my exposure. I just hope I'm not dead from all this before I get somewhere with it.

I wish you luck with your health issues and trying to do something about it. I just want to let you know about the toxicity of all Fluoroquinolones (prescribed as antibiotics), these also cause bowel injury as well as full-body, multi-system injury. Be sure you are not prescribed these (unless you know and understand the warnings)!! Check your medical records, be sure you never ingest a Fluoroquinolone... Cipro/Ciprofloxacin, Levaquin/Levofloxacin, Avelox/Moxifloxacin, Floxin/Ofloxacin and OMG so many others of this class. They are poisoning us from all directions!! The military has been using these DNA-damaging (causes oxidative stress to cells) for decades. Best to you!!

My community was exposed to PFAS. Many of us developed skin issues, some of which are major and have resulted in death. We had our water thoroughly tested and narrowed down to PFOA and PFAS as being the problem. Because the government was involved we are getting no assistance. Is there anything you can think of that would cause these issues? The skin issues are varied. Itching, burning, bleeding, sores, rashes, crusting, flaking, bumps, redness, discoloration, cancer, boils, dryness.

Hi Donald Burdick; if the community believes these manifestations are related to contaminants, you can consult an independent Environmental Health and Safety Scientist. That is the only way to know for sure.

I'm sorry to hear of your sickness. Do make sure to have a full physical done by a qualified provider. You want to make sure there is not anything else going on. Also, you can have your water tested by your local health department, if you want to be sure. Thanks for watching.
