- Iowa 80 is the worlds largest truck stop and we need it with severe weather in the area and along our path. Do we move on or wait it out? What can happen?
Tornado warning and watches were all around us. Not the best of conditions when you're driving in an RV. What do we do?
Probably our most unusual Harvest Host overnight spot but this trip is full of surprises. Time for projects and I hope it will fit.

RV Camping
We like to "Switch it Up" between resorts and campgrounds and boondocking is always an option.
We draw inspiration from Keep Your Daydream KYD, Less Junk More Journey, Finding Our Someday and Changing Lanes. We normally travel in an HDT similar to TH-cam channels Suite Travels, Switch it Up and Watts on Wheels. I also get some ideas from the editing style of Happily Ever Hanks (Happilyeverhanks) #thankshanks and believe it or not, I actually learned something from MRBeast Mr Beast video's as well. We're not exactly taking Life in the Slow Lane but we do stop and smell the roses.
Our journey is the destination. We want to share our experiences of our discovery of What's Next.

We use the TSD card for diesel fuel and save a bundle each time we fill up our Big Rig. We also use it to fill up our Onan generator.

Our Class C is built by Thor Motorcoach on a Ford F550 chassis. It's a production build Magnitude model XG32. We tow our red Jeep Wrangler Sahara behind it. We've made some modifications to it so that we can boondock comfortably. Lithium batteries, Victron 3000w multi-plus inverter, dual alternators charge while traveling and mods to the water system greatly enhance it's boondocking capabilities.
Our extreme completely custom 5th wheel is built on a semi-trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. Completely loaded it weighs 42,000 lbs rolling down the highway. And we do roll down the highway nearly every week. You see, we believe that if your home has wheels they should be used.

Thanks to everyone for noticing the anti-theft tag on the slipper. We had asked the associate if he removed it. We didn't see him but he said he did. When doing the video neither one of us saw until it was released! We did pay for it! Next time we'll check before we leave...hmmmm, Sondra thought she heard the alarm go off....LOL.

Select truck parking spaces will be painted green and informational signs equipped with Bluetooth technology will communicate with the ParkUnload app when a driver’s phone is in close proximity to the parking zone. Once the app detects the marked zone, the truck driver can park and check in to the selected parking space on the app. The app will show other drivers remaining spaces at the facility. Signs also will also provide drivers with additional information.

A couple of things I want to say and ask. First off what made you decide to stay at the truck stop for this few hours vs continue, why didn’t the winds affect the area you stopped at and why don’t you travel at night or like to arrive to your destination at night?

Great questions and thanks for watching. We have NOAA weather alerts on our phones and the radio in the truck. We looked at radar (on our phones) and saw the direction of the storm after we were alerted about a tornado warning. We felt it was the prudent thing to do was to sit tight until the weather cleared. We don't like to arrive at night because you can't see as well nor judge distances in the dark like you can during daylight hours. With our size and weight, we need all the info & views we can get (don't like a ditch to hide in the shadows/dark).

We are from Ontario 🇨🇦and are snowbirds so we depend on Ryan Hall’s you tube channel to ensure we are aware of violent weather when we are travelling. We travel in a 24 ft Class C and need to know where to be safe. Happy Birthday Sondra🎂 I am glad you got to buy lots of scrap making supplies. 🎁🎂

I never ever run my drives past 80 percent. Looks like its time for drive tires. I know they are expensive and i did buy all of mine on National account but i use Michelin only. XDN2. Michelin x on steer. I never let them get past 65 to 70 percent and i replace. I just did before i retired so we are good for 7 years.

Minnetonka slippers are the BEST, every year on the way to the lake I got Turquoise Minnetonka soft moccasins on the way to the lake, from the time I was 5 till I went away to college. Always the same style and color 😅😅😅😅😅

The green parking spots at the rest areas have censors that let the truck driver know if there are open spots. When they get close enough to the rest area it notifies them on an app if there is space available.

Iowa is such a pretty state. I had never been there til Memorial Day weekend when my wife and I decided to take a trip there. We went to Boone and Pella and were both blown away. We live in Kansas City, MO so it's not very much of a drive. So there will definitely be more visits to Iowa in our future.

The green lanes at the truck stops are a test program to identify whether there are open parking spaces. A trucker would use an app to check in or out. As a trucker approaches the truck stop he/ she can check the app to see if a green painted parking spot is available.

Hi you guys!! You guys will be or are already in Caldwell...we are just outside Boise until next week. Sondra...you really need to check out Crafters Warehouse in Meridian Idaho off Eagle St. Oh my goodness they have everything and I've been there twice now. Maybe go back this Saturday. The day after we arrived here a micro burst went through. I thought our 5th wheel was going to tip over. That was the scariest thing we've ever gone through!! Safe travels you guys, next week we're off to Montana. 💜

Everyone on the road was OK. A nearby town was not as fortunate. L😆 😆 careful what you ask for...journaling/scrapbooking can be consuming! 🤔😉😁
I'm not into scapbooking, but I am into fiber arts and other crafts (candle making), so am deeply sympathetic with Sondra's excitement in regards to being able to spend 2 full days at Scapmania. For me, it would be a yarn barn, fabric warehouse, or crafting warehouse. Anything connected to fiber arts is my strong suit: knitting, crochet, macrame, embroidery, and of course sewing, and I usually design my own projects and create my own patterns. My mother was a custom clothing designer and seamstress/tailor, she taught me the basics from early childhood on, and I exceeded her teachings by taking classes on my own. I haven't had time this past decade or so to pursue these hobbies (which have occasionally been my livelihood, I have Fiber Arts resume) and have to admit I miss them. And, having been diagnosed with essential tremor (often confused w/Parkinson's) last year, my once clever, nimble fingers are now less so, despite daily medication. Like Parkinson's, it's a progressive disease, so not sure I'll ever really be able to enjoy my hobbies in the future, should I ever retire and have time. Count your blessings!
🥺 I couldn't imagine not being able to do what I love to do. Not only do I like to journal (papercraft) but I am saving up materials for when we settle down and I can get out my sewing machine and serger. I'm not all that good but it's fun. My mother is an excellent seamstress and has taught me some of her skills. Thank you for your comment we really appreciate it. 🙂

The green parking spots are part of a program/study, and the hope is for DOT to learn the needs of more truck parking... the trucker would download the app and check in/out of the spot. As a trucker, I feel the study either went dead or fell to the side of the priority list because nobody has told us to participate. It's meant to have Bluetooth capabilities for you to check in.

Sondra, I can really identify the feeling you get walking into a store like that! I’m a quilter and recovering knitter so our travels, although not full-time, often take me to new locations for fabric fun! My purchases don’t add up to a lot since I really have almost everything want. I’ve retired from managing a quilt shop, and I love visiting new places to see how those stores operate. I keep a Google map of stores all over the country as my to-do list!

The BEAUTIFUL FARMLAND OF THE MIDWEST STATES❣️❣️ Each year I make it home and feel such peace and solitude driving off the interstate into the Farm roads of this great State. I grew up in Des Moines and still count it as home even though I have been gone 30 years. It’s a privilege to return each year.😍😍😍. (Tornado season: Batten down the hatches!!!! AND the humidity in the summer: hard to breathe)

You are in my home turf. I grew up there in that neighborhood. I-80 was my 2nd home for Sunday dinners. You should have stopped at the Iowa Machine Shed, one exit back, is an excellent place for a meal. Iowa has a lot more things than people realize. Happy Birthday Sandra! 3 comments (all for the price of 1) There have been multiple additions to the building & the parking lot at the Iowa 80 over the more than 3 decades I've been driving cross country. The truck was put in during one of the additions. I noticed, all of the trucks spread out over several miles were layed over in the same direction. A tornado wouldn't have been so neat. That was a straight line wind. And, David did that 2 day shopping trip bring about a coma in the price tag? The birthday cake really was a nice touch!

Thanks! I'm just now exploring the world of stamps. I bought a few to play with and now trying to figure out what kind of inks would work best for my application - Distressed Ink or Distressed Oxide? 🤔 it can't bleed thru the journal paper not Bleed when I color it in with a marker.

@@mrsbigtruckbigtravels726 use permanent ink. That after being stamped could use markers or watercolor pencils or sure about distress inks but email the company that puts them and ask if they are permanent inks
Oh forgot to tell you Do Not use alcohol based markers,they will bleed through. Btw are you using regular paper or card stock type, makes a difference in some techniques . Sorry to bother you .

Thank you! I used to use a Cannon Selfie which was pretty good and compact. Our desktop printer died and we bought a Cannon TS 6420A desk top printer. I tested it out with printer paper and am pretty happy with it. So I gave our daughter my selfie. In this RV lifestyle we try to have double purpose items. 😉

So about 10 years ago my youngest sister and her daughter-in-law opened a shop just like that for n Louisville Kentucky. The first few months were great, then the market went away, the filed bankruptcy and put everything on line to sell! It was very bad, they lost tens of thousands…

I travel Iowa and Nebraska for work. I see a LOT of RVs and tractor trailers get in trouble with the wind. Some of the worst spots are where the road is protected by trees, then it opens into a wide open field. The wind just rips through those areas like a wind tunnel and can really catch you off guard.
That makes sense. So dangerous and not much warning either.

I must say I didn't know that Scrapmania was still opened. I order alot from QVC & HSN unless I go to Crafts Direct which just closed I believe in April still on line that was a 40,000 square feet. I have so much stuff I could open my own store everyone says. I am giving most to my nieces. I am moving to an RV in Biloxi. I cant afford what you all have only like 6k and then I have to try to renovate. Love your guys sstuff. Happy Belated Birthday

You may not find a 2024 rand McNally truck road atlas..especially large scale 🤔 they whent to printing them every other year..a few years ago to save money 💰...if you can't find them at a TA truck stop..I've always had luck finding them at Shell truck stops..😅

It is amazing, the things you see while traveling down the road. Especially when there has been a tornado or storms with high winds before you are coming through. First time, if I recall correctly, was when I was on 81S in VA going to TN in the RV. Got to a place called Chilhowie VA and started to see houses with their roofs all gone, on both sides of the interstate. It was overwhelming. Then there was a truck stop on the opposite side, 81N, and like what you saw, tractor trailers were strewn about and gas island canopies all over the place, no glass windows in the buildings. Gives you the willies. So glad you pulled over and didn't have any events there at that TS. Happy Belated Sondra! That makes you a Gemini also, right?
Thank you! 🤩 Yes, I'm a Gemini 😁. We were in shock seeing all those overturned trucks and didn't realize how lucky we were until later that night when it settled in for the evening. We don't mind getting stuck in the sand but don't mess with tornados. 😬

Loved seeing you crossing the Mississippi River in my hometown area. Iowa where everyone is Iowa nice. Preliminary tornado count in Iowa is 94 with 4 deaths and 35 injured. I may have to check out the Scrapbook store. I am in Cedar Rapids in two weeks with our hot air balloon for a evening balloon glow.

You were near my families area of KS. My moms dads family are part of the Columbus KS start. I’ve been to Parsons, family lived in Altamont, Edna, Columbus, and Galena. Eventually I want to do a in-depth tour of Kansas. There are a lot of things to see. My dad’s family lived in north central KS Concordia. 😊

When you was in Dennis ks you where close to independence and Coffeyville both had great sights to visit. Independence had a free zoo, miss able the 1st space monkey came from there. Also there was the little house on the Prairie museum. Coffeyville has the Dalton gang graves and museum. There's the brown mansion as well. Cherryvale has the bloody benders 1st serial killer family. There's lots of amish in and around Dennis there's a cool little store.

Actually a lot of the female solo RV living/ and vans/ get a membership to a national gym..for shower 🚿 privilege..planet fitness is the big one..
That's true. What a hassle though to have to stop there for a shower. We like having our own "stuff".
