The biggest problem with YGO is access. You want new players but make it very hard to collect the cards to to compete. Look at Master duel. No UR is out of reach because of crafting and every one costs the same: 30 UR points. As long as you put time in you will be able to get those key cards you need.
Master duel is all luck, i drew all 9 vv urs from the pack but last pack i had to dismantle my horus to afford to play centurion, cant blame konami for my shitty luck.
In my case i try to built yubel deck, so i create New accout, craft some sr to gain free packs, and then i buy the Pack 100 packs that have yubel cards, but the game give me all UR sentu-ion cards and the yubel UR they just give me 2 so i think,, ok i gona make a sentur-ion deck and then i check some tutorial how to play that deck, because i never seem him, and wow that archegype is broken, is so easy to summon someon dragon synchro level 12, and the i get some help to build swordsoul deck that help me but her powet some times is not very good.
@Fiendsandfamily engraver is like 97$,lurrie is $8-10, tracts $8-9 and the rest are only cheap because of low rarity thank God but that's not counting hand traps & extra deck cards that are in $50-100 range also which is just stupid compare that to the $60 deck that won at pokemon worlds and it's just like why would I want to pay for these cards that will be worthless in a month the meta is stale it's always 1 clear best deck we need rock, paper Scissors formats and cheap version of cards they were almost there making most the engine low rarity just have 2 versions it always happens anyway with reprints cuz no one likes buying a key card for $100 just for it to drop to pennies also they need to stop treating the banlist like a way to sell the new set and actually make it for balance like killing kash before snake eye leave us counter options
@@r3zaful I barely play and can build everything for free. Just pick and choose the decks you want every month. I never had to dismantle anything, either.
Konami desperately needs to get out of this cycle of powercreep-ban-repeat. Forcing your player base to constantly move from one tier zero deck to the next harms any opportunities for the casual players to ever want to play in tournaments or even locals. Casual players and collectors are the financial lifeblood of the game. Konami can only milk rarity collections and Blue-eyes for so long. If casuals do not feel a reason to stay interested in the meta game, then they will take their interest and money elsewhere.
I think Swordsoul is an example of good card design. It can do things going first, and is good going second. I've been bored of the modern meta lately so I've been playing Edison/Goat/Tengu etc with my friends. I really like back and forth games.
"These cards are totally fine, just ban those 30 other totally fine cards, so the can't be abused by these new cards..." really? I mean APO and Beatrice, ok fine, but basically killing unchained, a deck which is fine and probably should just get sharvara back to 3, so these cards will not be too broken... come on
@@Aldragonit really does help rogue decks. I play runickk spright fur hire. If i face 3 handtraps im f*cked and lose on the spot. I live or die by my combo. So having a pivot play is so nice and honestly fine
Yeh there's no justifying this engine not getting hit unless they just want money which is what gonna happen. But having to see people making videos to try to validate the shit not being toxic is just out the ass b.s from ppl who are fine when they win and it's horrible format when they lose.
@@atlar8651 i would argue fiendsmith is the tier 0 engine and not Snakes, since before them they didn't have such high representation. Meanwhile you should also add Yubels to Snakes since they play Fiendsmiths themselves, in addition to Muskets and other Fiendsmith-based decks stealing some tops here and there
@@ZeroenHawk Banning Closed Heaven makes the engine go from 3 Engraver 1 Tract to 3 and 3 respectively, while budget players could get away with a single Engraver in their list. While the engine is not guaranteed in every game, seeing it in hand would make it more toxic. I believe the right hit is Requiem to 0, or later Fiendsmith to 1, but in my opinion it's too soon for that to happen, expecting it 2 lists from now (if they dominate) or after 2025 megatins. My issue is actually Fiendsmith Azamina from testing I did, with Snakes just being the best engine to utilize them but even by banning Poplar/Flam thus removing Snakes from meta the deck is very oppressive leading to old "unbreakable omni negate boards" that I didn't expect in TCG with the ban of Baronne/Savage. And what makes this worse is they are based on 1.5 card combos (or 2 bodies) + they have 20-25 non engine slots + infinite grind (recovering every card unlike just baronne) + generate tons of followup (where previously breaking the board meant winning on the spot)
The reasons you give to like fiendsmith are the reasons it is broken. I respect your opinion, but then we shouldnt we complaint about the state of the game if we cheer every move Konami does in this direction...
I wouldn't dislike fiendsmith if it wasn't so expensive for 3x engraver. So much pain would be alleviated if we got OCG's rarity system, but the current TCG system still sells product so most likely won't happen.
Fiendsmith is just full power orcust, but better. Why is it fine now when orcust still has cards like mermaid on the banlist? The idea of an engine that only requires you to make a generic link 2 to function is really dumb. Other engines like halq and verte have been killed for doing less, and were still incredibly toxic.
I understand why some people would dislike the fiendsmith enginw, it really accomplishes so much without the use of a normal summon, but man i love being able to play magical muskets with it
I feel the same way towards Lightsworn, Weiss being a light fiend is kinda crazy. Weiss plus Dragonling means you could normal summon Weiss, go into Fiendsmith Requiem (full fiendsmith combo), special Dragonling (since Weiss is in grave) then continue Lightsworn plays. Sad that it’s expensive but when Engraver goes down in price I’ll definitely buy it to play in LS.
@@PartyMarty321 I've been fortunate that I pulled one engraver from that 4 pack box and that friends were willing to cut me deals and trades for the engraver, because yeah that price point is ridiculous
@@jing4122 everything is accessible except Engraver, even at 2 it seems like a decent package but I can’t justify buying 2 right now… hopefully I can pull it from winnings at locals which is how I was able to get the WANTED/Diabellstar package when Snake-Eye was becoming relevant.
I understand and agree that Fiendsmith can be good/healthy for many decks in terms of being more competitive But at the same time, for many, thats the issue Because its so splashable, every deck becomes Fiendsmith + whatever and it gets tiring for many players
15:20 Excuse me WHAT?! How are these cards a problem??? They were LITERALLY NEVER a problem until Fiendsmith cards released! Leave old cards alone, ban the new GENERIC engine aka Fiendsmith and STOP printing broken new engines that you can literally splash everywhere because it has 0 restrictions....My God...Unchained was never the problem
Konami needs to focus on supplying the cards instead of keeping them limited which results into high pricing unlike the OCG they reprint the shit out of everything for the players.
This is very unlikely to happen as long as there’s people who spend absurd amount. Some do it for collection and some do it simply cuz they like opening packs. I mean look on TH-cam how many people spend thousands on terminals revenge just to pull magia when they could have just paid $500 to buy it on release
several cards haven't been printed for years here in the ocg longest streak goes to the vjump promo alembertian it went from around $5 to almost 6x the actual prize of the magazine itself the streak broke very recently when it got reprinted in the quarter century sets this was also after they murdered mathmech cyberse pile so it's basically useless anyway imo tcg has better reprint priority we haven't got any noticeable reprints for recent meta decks, diabellstar for example
@@vh0629 I get that but reprints of current and more useful cards happen way more for the OCG than the TCG which is the point I was trying to make regardless if you guys were waiting on a few cards for 15+ yrs you still get staples or current cards reprinted more frequently and in more sets than TCG does.
The solution is real simple. Use the OCG rarity system. The fact that TCG Konami abuses its customers, takes advantage of them by forcing them to pay VASTLY more than their OCG customers is absolutely absurd.
Hard agree with this. You want to make the game accessible to new players and appealing to older players to want to return? Make it more affordable and have a lot of similar rarities. You can make these cards foil too if you really care about making your deck shiny and visually appealing
Konami knows the tcg market has more disposable income than the ocg market and they price their product accordingly. Disagree? Then why is tcg selling like hot cakes?
Ive been saying for years that the only reason Beatrice has been legal for so long is that it was reasonably hard to make, why konami ever thought printing a quick effect foolish was ok is beyond me.
11:16 unironically, if they swapped the effects, so if it was made by a BA monster you could activate it immediately, and if you hard made it you had to wait a turn I think Beatrice would be more balanced lol. I could see why they made her the way they did, seeing as when BA made her they made her for free, so it would be stupid powerful back then, and if you hard made her you earned the ability to use her ability to send immediately, but as time has passed, it has became clear that she has become broken seeing as she's stupid easy to hard make now. I still say make a new card, but if they reversed that in her text I think she would be a bit more fair.
While i agree with the first part, I believe the main issue with Beatrice back then was being at 3. Using it with only Dante as the material makes her lose a lot of value, but even using it on top of Dante after milling wouldn't be game-breaking due to the cardpool not having as great GY effects as now (for example Rollback). On release though I remember thinking "Why doesn't this only send BA?? this will be an issue in the future" because I was a big Lavalval Chain enjoyer and it's now very obvious some YGO effects in particular can easily break other cards (copy effects, free searching/milling/summoning of any card on a generic extra deck monster)
@@babrad about your comment about her not only sending BA monsters... It doesn't seem like Konami learns lol. They made labyrinth able to set any trap card, and roll back with the ability to copy any trap card. It is hilarious, those aren't absolutely busted right now simply because there are better, more broken things to do, but it's possible in the future those could also be busted.
@@Camelotsmoon On Labrynth since i experimented with every potential card under the sun (since I refuse to play stun) I believe only the "win buttons" can be problematic which are a problem themselves anyway (D-Barrier number 1, DDG number 2, Viruses number 10+ if we look at specific trap depending on meta). To do a combo "turn 0" they need a 4 card combo, for turn 1 it's a 3 card combo. If we give any meta deck a 3 card combo, the end board will be equally strong (if not better) to a lingering floodgate while there will also be followup + bodies to OTK on turn 3. For copy effects in general, I believe they are a huge design risk. However there was an easy fix I wonder why it wasn't ruled this way when OCG updated said ruling": Don't skip the cost. While they clarified activation requirement should be met (or everyone would run the six sam trap that turn skips), having to pay the cost would be a further activation requirement while not making the effect completely free. For example the Mayakashi trap wouldn't work that way, same with Viruses etc.
Wow! Really interesting thoughts. I really appreciate how you have a different and more layered perspective than I normally hear in the yugioh community. Keep up the great stuff!
As a Fiend enjoyer, I love the Fiendsmith cards! I’ve been splashing them into my D/D/D and Dark World decks (the D/D/D build actually had moderate success at my locals this past weekend winning a game against Kashtira and winning a match against Fiendsmith Snake-Eyes). My only issue with them is that they don’t lock you into fiends, so bullshit ass decks like Snake-Eyes commandeer them as new tech to insulate their plays and it puts cards like Beatrice and Big Caesar (which are super important cards for their respective archetypes) at risk of getting banned because obviously Konami isn’t gonna hit the new cards nor are they gonna hit the deck that’s getting reprints in a few months. No, they’re gonna hit AROUND the problem like they always do so Beatrice, Caesar, Lurrie, etc are all on the chopping block because once again Konami made a bunch of overtuned archetypes without any sort of xeno-lock in them
First, congrats on the YCS victory! I really appreciate this kind of discussion, and the final part about the game's issues and how it would be way cooler if the fanbase could access the cards more easily, with multiple rarity, as you suggest.
Desirae is much more better than baronne. It’s true it doesn’t destroy, but baronne negated activations. So when you drew awful hands of like 2 ttt in hand, you could get the first one negated by baronne and then use the second one. Desirae doesn’t allow that, and furthermore, if used as chainlink4 it could negate up to 2 cards instead of 1. Also people usually holds it for TTT so even if you use the example of the “body stays on the field” often desirae is not used for monsters but rather for s/t. So it destroying or not something doesn’t matter, since the card will be lost anyways.
Without a banned list fiendsmith does not feel nice to play against, but if we get one it might be fine. Depends on how big the Azamina package will be, since we again will get another omni negate. Anyway, hope the shark cards & dominus impulse from rage of the abyss will not be that expensive. Could be a really good budget option and does not need/ want to play fuwaross.
Its always been about accessibility. The only place I can even hope to compete on a competitive level is Master Duel because its the only place im not priced out. And we all understand the differences in format that make it a literal different version of the game. So I dont even get to experience the TCG unless I just want to get my ass handed to me over and over because I cant afford to spend a thousand dollars every 3 months to keep up. Other TCGs have shown us that high rarity cards are still highly sought even when low rarity versions of that card exist. Heck, Yugioh has shown us this... Konami just needs to stop treating their customers with such contempt and do the same with all sets from the get go.
0, and I mean ZERO surprise here. Jesse, you're a 6th time YCS champion (congrats, honestly!). It is of no surprise that you would like Fiendsmith, it gives another technical Ceiling to all the Tier 0 stuff you HAVE TO play to win your events, I'm not even hating, I understand. But you're the 0,1% man, you're really not understanding how cards like these just destroy the next generation of duelists motivation. Normal people do not want a hobby that forces you to slavishly follow a meta. Meta will always exist, don't get me wrong. But a diverse format is the healthiest state this TCG can have, and should strive to uphold for half a Year apiece at minimum. People want to be able to bring T2-3, Rogue to Locals and still have a chance if they play it right. Example Maxx C: Maxx C absolutely allows my "weaker than T0" decks to compete, it's a total blowout card, hooray, the Underdog can win it, just like the spirit of the Manga wanted kt! ... the problem is, they have that same blowout card and will destroy you even harder. People become frustrated, quit, and don't buy new product, sticking to Goat & Edison (imho, this is the reason we're never getting Staples of past formats reprints in a true fashion (Delinquent Duo, Royal Oppression, etc.)). This TCG needs a slowdown. A recuperation period of years, to allow a new, young playerbase to organically rise up into the hobby, not Konami's focus on "Whales" - cause face it, that's what they're doing.
Personally i enjoyed playing non-meta (i mean non-fire decks) way more since March compared to Tear 0 where even 9 Bystials and a dedicated Shifter deck couldn't keep up. Don't get me wrong, Tear mirrors can be very enjoyable (especially without Winda or Dweller) but they choked every other deck. Fire meta is the best deck no doubt, however, I didn't feel I was in an unwinnable situation with a variety of decks and fiendsmiths gave a boost to a lot of them. While Beatrice got so accessible it's now the time to ban it (just give us BA support), I agree with Jesse on this take and I would love to see Fiendsmiths standing on their own in the future. Great engine but fair. The most horrible design aspect of Fiendsmiths is their TCG rarity, paywalling players out of the best possible build they can innovate with.
Hey Jesse, just a thought. Do you think you could showcase deck interesting profiles that *don't* contain expensive cards? Would definitely help with the engagement you were talking about. Especially if you're looking to inspire for people playing at a "Locals" level.
Yeah I was considering getting a compact version of the engine with just one engraver and everything else is relatively cheap but I honestly don't feel like dropping a hundo on it right now, it's not that I can't it's just that I don't appreciate the trend.
I agree with your thoughts on this archetype. I feel like the card/strategy designers should consider using burn effects in general far more sparingly.. at least while the time rules are the way that they are?
After watching some of the YCS, I think I agree Going into the format I thought I would hate the Fiendsmithe engine, but I didn't end up hating them at all. It's the cards around Fiendsmith that I hate (Beatrice, Appo, Snake-eye)
Not mentioned in the video, but many seem to refer to the link 2 Goddess probably taking the hit for the engine. Why not the Link 1 that gives full combo? (It’s hard for me not to compare it to Knightmare Mermaid and the 5-10 other Extra Deck monsters that are banned for summoning from deck too.)
It’s mostly due to other decks being able to use 2 monsters to go into the generic link 2 (goddess) then go straight into Fiendsmith combo… Goddess being the only generic light fiend link makes it the best option to bridge into the Fiendsmith engine. If goddess took a hit (ban) then Fiendsmith would be way harder to go into for most decks that don’t naturally run light fiend monsters
@@PartyMarty321 i have to disagree with this take. Banning Closed Heaven means you can no longer run a single Engraver and do the full combo. What this will lead to is everyone playing 3 Engraver/Tract so this becomes an even bigger paywall than it already is, while the player who didn't draw their Fiendsmith engine being salty about it.
@@babrad I don’t think Fiendsmith as an engine should be so generic that any deck can run it. Goddess being the only light fiend link is actually the real problem.
Totally agreed, I really liked Fiendsmith when they were announced but the price is absurd. If they ban the problem cards as you say it may drop price in the secondary market but I'm not too sure it will happen. OCG printing is needed
My favorite part of Fiendsmith is where you combo into Sequence to fuse, and instead of Lacrima you do Aerial Eater for Yubel combo. Natural synergies instead of the generic "lol free 3-mat appo" is more interesting to me.
Another interesting thing: Sequence being a fiend-generic fusion summon let's certain, normally medicore, fusions become playable as their summon is now "free" from GY. Ex: Infernoid Evil Aerial Eater Berfomet Grapha
I was watching Sacramento and there was a few times you had me worried but you found a way to play through some tough scenarios. Masterclass against a really tough opponent who had that tenpai deck buzzing
The issue with fiendsmith is that it offers too much advantage, disruption and flexibility for functionally no drawback. The only kind of downside is how much extradeck space it needs - that and it's pricepoint making it inaccessible for many people. It's especially sad, because I really like the archtype conceptually.
I agree with Fiendsmith being "fair", excluding the problematic cards, like you said. But, from a card design stance, is it really okay that I start with my engine, take 2-3 hand traps to the face and then I can have two extra bodies on the field and then shift into Fiendsmith? It's not like there won't be new links that we'll abuse and make from the link-4 value that Fiendsmith ends the board with. Or even a Desirae can be quite potent by itself, you also having 2-3 hand traps in hand... I kinda miss archetypes having locks, sometimes.
great video jesse. I would love if you could make another video like this talking about how the adventure engine changed things up in a similar manner in the past.
I have ZERO issues with the cards but my issue is, brother i don't want to ask for a loan to get a base to go to a tournament to get a Vanilla, a playmat and a Switch LITE, not even an Oled a Lite!
Congrats on winning the YCS, a well deserved win! Beatrice is criminal because it doesn’t work as well in the deck it’s supporting, and is broken in any deck capable of making rank 6s.
The fiendsmith engine is really cool on its own, but it really needed a restriction to summoning light fiends only when using engravers revive effect. My main issue is the same as everyone though, it got rarity bumped to stupid levels and it never should have been that bad. Highest it should have ever been was ultra (prefer super) so that it would be like 30-40 per engraver instead of a full mortgage per copy.
I would agree if fiendsmith hadn't the send effect, the fusion the burn, and the biggest fusion a send effect when getting rid of... Too many interruptions for a 1 card combo. But I agree that fiendsmith as rank 6 turbo is fine.
For me its just how much more similar decks become with fiendsmith. Not only do all decks currently run a certain amount of stamples, lets say around 9 or so (especially in master duel #banmaxxc) but now your play another 4 extra deck cards as staples now. Meaning that most extra decks have more then 50% be not just good staples but basically the same engine, since it isn't like fiendsmith has alot of build variety in the engine itself. More just alot of different places the same engine can sit in.
I've definitely warmed up to Fiendsmith cards, but one thing I hate in YGO is link 1s. I genuinely think that they were a mistake and Konami should stop printing them. If you go and check through every link 1 that has ever been printed, you might find it hard to believe just how many are banned, and I personally don't think this is a coincidence. It just feels like link 1s appear from no where, and this is no exception. I'd be fine if Requiem was a link 2 and needed '1 Light Fiend + 1 monster' or something like that. I like this much more bcs Tract, if you think about it, is a completely healthy card. But with Lurrie, you basically go Neg 1 in hand in exchange for a requiem. This solves that and makes Tract feel very fair. It also makes Closed Heaven much less useful in context of the Fiendsmith package, since you'd now need 3 bodies. Idk all and all I might be letting my link 1 hate cloud my judgement, I can just never support an engine that utilises them because I fundamentally disagree with their existence.
TCG literally banned the competition (Baronne and Savage Dragon), gave Fiendsmith extra support, and made the two most key Fiendsmith cards SCRs. They knew what they were doing and were all in on being scummy about it unline the OCG which did little to none of that.
How does that make these cards any less of a problem? Yes, more people should have access to all yugioh cards, but their rarity has nothing to do with the fact that them as an engine cards wouldn't be as big an issue if it wasn't for the 2 new tcg exclusive fusions, appo, and beatrice
@x_Anonymouse_x It doesn't, and those 2 Fusions are the support I'm talking about, it's proof to me that the TCG is being deliberately scummy and wanted to milk the problem instead of fixing it by not making exclusive support, not blowing Engraver up into a maximum money card, and preemptively banning Beatrice and maybe Lurrie before the Fiendsmiths even got here and we start talking about everything else that needs to go.
Solely blaming the TCG side of the house is also forgetting that the OCG created these cards and the link 2 that can cause any deck to pivot into these cards (the link 2 moon). That cards has become the new Verte. With your logic above we should be blaming OCG for scummy practices too
@x_Anonymouse_x We should, but the TCG put their foot down on the OCG's baby Dragon Link yet coddles and milks Fiendsmith, so if you're asking me who I blame, it's Pachinkomoney as a whole and the only antidote really has been to completely disengage from Yu-Gi-Oh! (no tournaments, no buying product, no Master Duel since the OCG and TCG being cancerous is partially on purpose to funnel Duelists into Master Duel which is even more cancerous as a game) and switch to trying Bamco's One Piece TCG until the next banlist.
I think it's definitely true that with some hits fiendsmith could be healthy, but for now it's disappointing to see yet another tier 0 deck/engine with every card rarity bumped to hell. Hopefully they do address the current format, personally I haven't even enjoyed playing it on db, but even if they do I'm still just not able to justify buying a deck right now.
Bro…it’s about money and logistics. Sure people can say it’s the gameplay, but the bottom line is that “regular” folks can’t afford this crap. (both time investment and financial). The top 1% yugioh players/content creators are fine financially so they can afford whatever bs konami throws their way. The rest of society, who don’t have as much time or money get screwed out of the hobby. Whatever the cards and gameplay is fine…but make it reasonably priced. And No, going to another more affordable game is not the solution lmao Either grow the game, or keep it closed off, expensive and wack. But yeah the players and content creators are detached from the rest of us poor struggling peasants
ive just tried getting into yugioh after growing up with it as a kid, i have very little money so playing yugioh is actually impossible for me besides decks that are made of 3x structer decks lmao XD the game is totally inaccessable for new players
I was in the crowd when you won Sacramento. And the crowd was cheering when you used call by the grave the shifter. Almost symbolic saying goodbye to shifter before the banlist because that card is infuriating
If it pisses you off so much, don’t play a GY centered deck? There are all sorts of decks that the end goal is stopping the opponent from doing anything. Shifter just accomplishes this vs GY decks in a very efficient way.
@@jayhuff1776 "oh you don't like Maxx "C"? Don't play decks that special summon then. Go play Lab or Stun" "Oh you don't like secret village of the spellcaster? Don't play spell cards then" "Oh you don't like TCBOO? Don't play a deck where all of the monsters have the same type then" "Oh you don't like Dimensional Barrier? Go play a deck that doesn't rely on just one summoning mechanic then" I could go on ad infinitum but I think I gave enough examples to show why "if you hate [x card] then just go play [y deck]" is a horrible argument. I play Purrely. Purrely does not care about Maxx "C", the main end board can be made with only 1 to 2 special summons, and Purrely benefits highly from Maxx "C" because you can on average draw 4 cards during the opponent's standby phase which makes Maxx "C" extreemely beneficial for Purrely, and Maxx "C" has won me a ton of games due to that fact. Given all this info you might think I love Maxx "C" right? It helps my fave deck after all. But I actually hate it because I know that it's bad game design to print a card that auto wins against a large portion of decks in Yugioh. And in fact, once Tenpai comes out in Master Duel, I myself will want to play Tenpai because I like blind second decks and I will absolutely play Shifter in it. Does that mean I like Shifter because it will benefit the deck I'm planning to main? No, because I can acknoledge that to print a card that auto wins against a large portion of decks is bad game design.
I feel the same the fiendsmith cards are fine. But lurrie and beatrice absolutely make them god tier. Oh and that 1200lp burn is also evil. They can combo 15min and win in time with combos that lead nowhere
This 100%. Fiendsmith is a really balanced archetype that can be slotted in a lot of decks to help you play the game going 1st or 2nd or in grind games. The problem rn is the access it gives. Its not the Engine thats the problem its the cards that will be abused by it (out of engine). If you look back at all the crazy good engines that we had in the past years Dragoon, DPE, Water enchantress even Kashtira now. Those engines are all Fair and help you build boards, defend you while building boards or help breaking boards but the main reason thats the case is because they banned all the cards they abused. All these engines are still available in the game rn but because of the bans the out of archetype cards received (Verte as an example) these engines got fair. And are somewhat more a blessing then a curse in the game rn. Also If you think about it rn you can send any Spell or trap from your deck with the Fiendsmith engine (any floodgate, any fieldspell lietally anything you want) and add it back to your hand with the Lv. 8 White Forest Synchro and thats not a fiendsmith or White forest problem its again a problem that you enable because of the cards that can be abused out side of the archetype. Also the examples shown are really good Lars is still a fair card even if its an omni because the reasons you gave.
Do you think Fiendsmith will still be as viable as it is now if they ban fabled lurrie? Sure that doesn't really affect the closed heaven lines to the FS engine, but it makes tractus significantly worse
You just spent the whole video listing things that fiendsmith lets you abuse… yes, if we ban everything that makes a certain archetype broken, it won’t be broken anymore. That’s true for most OP engines, so I don’t think your argument is very good here tbh
I thought everybody agreed if you gotta ban alot of stuff just to make something fair you just ban the something instead. For example halq. Also congrats on your win 🏆
If i didnt buy magia. I would buy a fiendsmith core. Atleast im ready for blue eyes format and i didnt even know there was going to be more support when i brought the card. I kinda lucked out.

Asking Konami to think is abit much
this cycle has been going on since Invasion of Chaos. It isn't going anywhere.
Eternal Format necessitates it , they can’t really do anything else without doing set rotation
too bad we're all priced out of Fiendsmith!

I mean APO and Beatrice, ok fine, but basically killing unchained, a deck which is fine and probably should just get sharvara back to 3, so these cards will not be too broken... come on

As a former unchained player I would hate to see rage or yama get hit. best dog shavarha isn't coming back to 3 it will make yubel better

The thubnail is wrong. That Engine is t0. Last ycs there were 27/32 deck fiendsmith engine, that is an 84%
with a strong part of Snake-eye fiendsmith, snake eye being already very strong
This comment is actually perfect
"basically to make fiendsmith fair we gotta nuke unchained" :\
Yeah, and D/D/D- without Caesar, the deck has next to nothing to defend itself
My problem with Fiendsmith is that i can't throw 100$ at a single card.
Congratulations for the YCS Win!!
The reasons you give to like fiendsmith are the reasons it is broken. I respect your opinion, but then we shouldnt we complaint about the state of the game if we cheer every move Konami does in this direction...
So we should ban 5-6 cards for the most broken engine to still be played in every deck lmao nice try
It can’t be the most broken engine when snake-eyes exists
snake eyes isnt an engine, its an archetype
@@ImHim_BelieveIt That's an arbitrary distinction, really

I understand and agree that Fiendsmith can be good/healthy for many decks in terms of being more competitive
But at the same time, for many, thats the issue
Because its so splashable, every deck becomes Fiendsmith + whatever and it gets tiring for many players

Konami needs to focus on supplying the cards instead of keeping them limited which results into high pricing unlike the OCG they reprint the shit out of everything for the players.
As long as there are sheep that keep buying the same trash from konami again and again, konami will never provide more budget options
@@thanos_channel you right, because the Konami want money, if some player will leave, wharever if they have other players will suport the Konami

several cards haven't been printed for years here in the ocg
longest streak goes to the vjump promo alembertian
it went from around $5 to almost 6x the actual prize of the magazine itself
the streak broke very recently when it got reprinted in the quarter century sets
this was also after they murdered mathmech cyberse pile so it's basically useless anyway
imo tcg has better reprint priority
we haven't got any noticeable reprints for recent meta decks, diabellstar for example
@@vh0629 I get that but reprints of current and more useful cards happen way more for the OCG than the TCG which is the point I was trying to make regardless if you guys were waiting on a few cards for 15+ yrs you still get staples or current cards reprinted more frequently and in more sets than TCG does.
Why does Jesse on his Thumbnail look like the disney short animation dude that is playing chess in the park vs himself
Accessible is a strong word when the Engravers alone are $125-150 each
He ment accesible as engine for the decks, to pivot into Fiendsmith plays, not Accesible for the players
The solution is real simple. Use the OCG rarity system. The fact that TCG Konami abuses its customers, takes advantage of them by forcing them to pay VASTLY more than their OCG customers is absolutely absurd.
Welcome to America. (I know tcg isn't just America)
Hard agree with this. You want to make the game accessible to new players and appealing to older players to want to return? Make it more affordable and have a lot of similar rarities. You can make these cards foil too if you really care about making your deck shiny and visually appealing

It's literally doing so bad that most stores are dropping it.
Literally every player playing this deck puts up the same board and playing against the same deck over and over is fun or fine?
Jesse, thanks for signing my Yubel card and the pic.
Wow! Really interesting thoughts. I really appreciate how you have a different and more layered perspective than I normally hear in the yugioh community. Keep up the great stuff!
The only two things I hate about findsmith are it's use in the current meta and the price...
Not to mention they are actually really good in Fiend decks, especially Infernoid.
No, they’re gonna hit AROUND the problem like they always do so Beatrice, Caesar, Lurrie, etc are all on the chopping block because once again Konami made a bunch of overtuned archetypes without any sort of xeno-lock in them
Ofc he likes the archetype, he won a YCS off it.
Congratulations on another excellent performance. Everyday that goes by, the closer you get to that GOAT status. I am proud to be a fan and supporter!
But do you not see a problem with literally every single deck having to play Fiendsmith?
@@babradand ban that stupid link 2 card
Hey Jesse, just a thought. Do you think you could showcase deck interesting profiles that *don't* contain expensive cards? Would definitely help with the engagement you were talking about. Especially if you're looking to inspire for people playing at a "Locals" level.
The combo line at 6:30 is kinda wrong because requiem doesn’t bring out a light fiend. It tributes for another Engraver from hand or deck.

You are right, it brings another "Fiendsmith" monster, not just any LIGHT Fiend.
I agree bro! Fiendsmith is fun power creep done right. The other support cards are the issue and always have been. Beatrice, Apo and friends.

Good cards, wish I could play them, too expensive. All I can say.
After watching some of the YCS, I think I agree
Going into the format I thought I would hate the Fiendsmithe engine, but I didn't end up hating them at all. It's the cards around Fiendsmith that I hate (Beatrice, Appo, Snake-eye)
Not mentioned in the video, but
many seem to refer to the link 2 Goddess probably taking the hit for the engine.
Their top end, Beatrice, has to go.
The only problem is vendors and pros gate keeping good cards from what seems like 75% of the game, seeing that the same people keeping winning events.
Nice meeting you at YCS Sacramento Jesse. I just came to say Hi and congrats on the win
Natural synergies aka Konami specifically adding cards to buff decks that are selling product 😂😂😂
*wins ycs*
Actually this format isn't so bad guys :)
Another interesting thing: Sequence being a fiend-generic fusion summon let's certain, normally medicore, fusions become playable as their summon is now "free" from GY.
Ex:
Infernoid Evil
Aerial Eater
Berfomet
Grapha
Why we have to ban the old card that no one played cuz of new broken decks that can abuse those cards? Feels unfair.
CONGRATS JESSE!!!
great video jesse.
I like the extra pop effect that fiendsmith has. It’s a good going second effect and I wish that more cards included effects like that
The fiendsmith engine is really cool on its own, but it really needed a restriction to summoning light fiends only when using engravers revive effect.
I also like verte anaconda but that didnt cost hundreds of dollars
It hit a high price then once the gold came they banned him, when a decent price.
Your videos get better, and better, it's unbelievable. I want more 😂.
Im sure this was pre-recorded before Jesse won the YCS. Gratz JESSE! 6 TIME YCS CHAMPION! Lets get a YCS vlog/review video.
I look forward to Fiendsmith when it comes to Master Duel
Congratulations on your YCS win dude you work hard for it
Congrats on the win good luck at worlds
I dont think that Fiendsmith would be as big an issue if it wasn't for Beatrice and Appo, but the TCG exclusive fusions released in INFO as well
TCG literally banned the competition (Baronne and Savage Dragon), gave Fiendsmith extra support, and made the two most key Fiendsmith cards SCRs.
Congrats on the win 🏆
I was not prepared for that meme in the intro
I think it's definitely true that with some hits fiendsmith could be healthy, but for now it's disappointing to see yet another tier 0 deck/engine with every card rarity bumped to hell. Hopefully they do address the current format, personally I haven't even enjoyed playing it on db, but even if they do I'm still just not able to justify buying a deck right now.
Honesty, I’m just happy that Jesse admitted that there’s a money problem with buying these cards
I agree. The cards are strong but if not for Beatrice and apo they would not be as crazy.
The engraver was engraving an engraving in the grave at the grave full of engraving engravers.
And No, going to another more affordable game is not the solution lmao
Either grow the game, or keep it closed off, expensive and wack.
But yeah the players and content creators are detached from the rest of us poor struggling peasants
Congrats on YCS #6, Jesse! Well deserved.
ive just tried getting into yugioh after growing up with it as a kid, i have very little money so playing yugioh is actually impossible for me besides decks that are made of 3x structer decks lmao XD the game is totally inaccessable for new players
I would rather have poplar banned than oss cause I am completely fine with the sinful spoil engine , compared to fiendsmith which is like 10x busted
I was in the crowd when you won Sacramento. And the crowd was cheering when you used call by the grave the shifter. Almost symbolic saying goodbye to shifter before the banlist because that card is infuriating
Too bad they are never banning shifter because they have said several times that they actually like shifter 😢
No way Konami’s banning shifter before the TCG paypiggies drop their paychecks for the all secret rare Malice Archetype
@@ProfessionalTH-camWatcher It is the TCG's Maxx C unfortunately lol
If it pisses you off so much, don’t play a GY centered deck? There are all sorts of decks that the end goal is stopping the opponent from doing anything. Shifter just accomplishes this vs GY decks in a very efficient way.
@@jayhuff1776 "oh you don't like Maxx "C"? Don't play decks that special summon then. Go play Lab or Stun"
"Oh you don't like secret village of the spellcaster? Don't play spell cards then"
"Oh you don't like TCBOO? Don't play a deck where all of the monsters have the same type then"
"Oh you don't like Dimensional Barrier? Go play a deck that doesn't rely on just one summoning mechanic then"
I could go on ad infinitum but I think I gave enough examples to show why "if you hate [x card] then just go play [y deck]" is a horrible argument.
The price is the only problem with them.
Konami- so you dont like SP to 2..............bonfire?.......to 1?🎉......wheres our applause? Why are you booing!? Dont you guys HAVE FIRE DECKS?!
Is that the most recent YCS and future Master Duel World Champion Jesse Kotton!?
I hope youre working on a ycs recap video. Looking forward to seeing your list!
As a ddd player, if we lose Caesar thats gonna be a bit sad as thats the only good interruption we can makr
Jessie honestly is the best player . Always insightful and actual enjoys the game
