It’s almost surreal how equal all of the protagonists were in this duel. You can tell the writer took great care to keep the duel from turning into a one man show.

@@tristantaccad4644 that's basically entirely the case. Yusei managed to come a cross an old non-functional DC era Duel Disk and got it working again. But he was using scrap and spare parts so he wasn't able to make it retract like say Yugi's. This wasn't really a problem seeing as it basically always was on his Duel Runner but it did make it horribly cumbersome should he have to duel on foot. Notably someone like Jack Atlas who was in a similar position to Yusei before hitting the big leagues now has a proper Duel Disk that can fold and retract even with it usually being plugged into his own Duel Runner because he actually could just buy one. This does mean Yusei's Duel Disk, as good of a mechanic as he is, probably also could kill a person from a wiring error.
My favorite part of this movie is when Yugi goes "Synchro what?" after Yusei summons Junk Gardna. The line was so masterfully delivered that I can never help but to laugh at that line
The best part is that moment of "watdafaq?" is shared by his generation of watchers. Trying my best to hear the new mechanics added to YGO is like being stuck in a foreign country.
To my fellow Atems/Yugiboomers out there, the designs of Extra Deck summons are just Fusions with different (but usually just less) specificity each time. Fusion: 2 or more specific named monsters, using a specific named spell as the catalyst. Synchro: Fuse using varied levels rather than names, using a specific type of monster as the catalyst. XYZ: Fuse using specific and exact matching levels, no catalyst required for the summon itself but instead using the materials as a catalyst for the card's effects. Pendulum: Not really an extra deck mechanic so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Link, MR4: Fuse using any monsters of any kind, using a specific zone on your board as the first catalyst and the arrows of previous links as subsequent catalysts. Link, MR5: Lmao who needs catalysts or levels or anything else, just fuse your board, who gives a damn anymore, Konami just wants your money and they don't care about consistent game design
@shuttlecrossing1433 I see what you're getting at. HOWEVER: 1. As fusion got more support, the requirements got less specific. Just look at any modern-day fusion deck. Almost all of them just say, "Any 2 monsters of *Insert archetype or attribute here*" 2. While rare, there are certain sychros that required specifically named monsters. I.E. The majestic synchros and nordics. Pretty much everything you said is accurate. I'm just being pedantic.

The entire reason that Yugi gives Jaden the "Winged Kuriboh" Card at the start of GX is because Yugi knew who he was, as well as the fact that he would use the Kuriboh cards because of the events of Yu-Gi-Oh!: Bonds Beyond Time and thats my theory

@@NestedQuantifier Not quite. The difference here is that Paradox's deck is synergistic with itself, whereas the protagonists were dependent on more generic combinations of cards. Each of the protagonists also only had two turns, while Paradox had six, meaning he could dig deeper and get more of his combos out. There was only the one specific synergy between Jaden and Yugi in regards to Flute of Summoning Kuriboh. In effect, the game was dependent on what the protagonists' starting hands were when it comes to whether or not they could win, while Paradox had the benefit of getting more cards and not having to be reliant on awkward boardstates.
Unfortunately for Paradox he was also dueling against Yugi's Millennium item, the Millennium Puzzle. In addition to housing the spirit of Atem, it has the power to alter destiny just as long as you use it with the right mindset. Paradox's defeat was set even before the start of the duel.
Funny thing is. This is the Yami Yugi before he remembered his name and became all powerful to know the means of vanquishing Zorc and even had the power to control fate itself. Would that mean he himself would have dealt Paradox in all by himself if that was the Atem he’d deal with?
I think it actually would've been EVEN WORSE if it was a 1v3 but either of those two went first instead of Yusei. In a 1v1, Jaden could've played Flute of Summoning Kuriboh to stall out one turn, and then he could've *prayed* to draw Yubel to Fusion Summon Neos Wiseman, and then he could've attacked and won the duel. As for Yugi...well yeah there's nothing he could've done lol

Also he didn't even have Mahad because this takes place right before Waking the Dragons.

He could have remembered this duel and had Winged Kuriboh and gave Jayden that card so he would have a reason to put that card needed to summon a Kuriboh later on. I always had Jaden as the MVP. He knew Yugi’s deck and quickly picked up Yusei’s strengths to play off of along with some clutch saves. Also how has there not been another one of these movies made.
For Me The Best Part Of The Movie Is When they All Say Their Catchphrases In A row. Jaden: Get Your Game On. Yusei: Let's Rev It Up. Yugi: It's Time To Dual.
I think the reason they had Stardust dragon deal the final blow rather than Dark magician is because it’s the most satisfying narratively. That was the signature monster stolen by paradox while Yusei also had the strongest character connections to Paradox since he appeared in 5ds
technically, yusei misplayed on paradox's 2nd turn, so when paradox attacked with malefic rainbow dragon, yusei couldve used junk gardna's effect to switch malefic cyber end dragon to defense, then use its other effect to switch rainbow to defense, which would prevent the trio from taking any damage at all

It always bugged me Paradox didn't seem to know what stardust's effect was, despite stealing it, having it in his deck, summoning it and creating an evil counterpart of it. I mean it didn't matter in the duel but still.
To be fair, he had only recently stolen it, and his records only told him "the most powerful dragons in Duel Monsters", not necessarily what their effects were. There are also some differences between the Malefics and their counterparts (such as Malefic Rainbow working with other Malefics instead of Crystal Beasts). He was probably only aware that Stardust was among the ranks of the most powerful dragons, and basically only stole it to make the Malefic version without considering the actual reason why Stardust was one of the strongest dragons in the first place.
12:32 also another fun fact this is actually paradox's monster at the start of the duel so would either return to his field or go to his graveyard even if stardust dragon could be summoned this way.
There are a few times where characters have their key cards stolen by people, and mid-duel reclaim them. I've recently been watching Arc-V, so the one that comes to mind for me is Yuya vs Sawatari.
My reasoning for why this didn't happen in terms of anime logic is that Paradox didn't steal the physical Stardust Dragon card, but rather stole the monster from the original card and put it into a pseudo card. So when Yugi took control of Stardust Dragon, it essentially returned that monster back into the original card it came from, meaning Yusei fully owned Stardust again. It's convoluted, I know, but then again, so is Paradox.

Heres a question. why did Paradox need to travel to a specific point in time where Duel Monsters already existed and has effected the world to kill Pegasus when he could of just went to a time before pegasus was either born or before Pegasus created Duel Monsters? The thing was they were trying to ensure Yusei had Stardust Dragon on his field, they were treating the duel as a rescue operation in a manner of speaking so Paradox can't perform some villainous escape with Stardust in hand because plot convinience. Though, it's weird that they didn't treat this as the case to get their rivals' cards back lol
They sadly never drew Monster Reborn, to summon the original dragons from the grave. Though, it is easy enough to loot a defeated duelist's deck after battle.
I love how in the intro it's like "Yeah, tru, Yusei is from the future but Paradox is from the MORE distant future" like that makes it any more believable.
I'd personally say it was Jaden because the flute of summoning kuriboh even in the anime let's you summon winged kuriboh to the field and if it was destroyed due to an effect they wouldn't of taken any battle damage for the rest of the turn and would of survived
I was wondering about that because Jaden used the card. Yet we see Kuriboh get added too the hand. Also i found out why in the anime he wouldn't have taken battle damage sure but Truth Dragon was effect damage which would be burn damage. So winged kuriboh effect wouldn't have work. It would've protected damage from dark magician being destroyed by battle. Yet it wouldn't have stop Truth dragon effect too burn them for damage. It would've just been another monster. So knowing anime logic it was better for normal Kuriboh too be used.
I’d like to further point out that, due to time travel shenanigans, Jaden’s Winged Kuriboh (which Yugi gave over to Jaden at the start of GX) was theoretically in Yugi’s possession at the time not unlike how GX’s anime revealed Yugi had Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Behinning in his deck. By all accounts, Yugi could’ve just summoned Winged Kuriboh’s past self to the same end goal.

Except under TGS’s explanation, they wouldve taken more damage via WK being destroyed. Since his points out if Paradox did things “right” they’d be at 100 LP, summoning WK wouldve Killed them.
Honestly I both sides basically played their safest moves that benefited them the most. Honestly i think the gameplan before the duel started was if possible get stardust back and get as much a symbolic win as it was a true win. Also i think paradox is technically an inexperienced duelist (in the sense of battle experience) with a decent deck.Yes he took those cards but he's a time traveller as well he could have picked the times a duelist was at their weakest or learned a flaw in that solo deck and exploited. Which is part of the reason why he was basically doomed against the 3 protags...one of them maybe he could beat but all 3 he wouldn't know how the decks work together

Yubel evolution were a reflection of they suffering due to being forgotten by Jaden. Their effects reflect that very well: base Yubel effect mirror how their mere presence hurt Jaden despite their effords to protect him(have a maintenance cost, reflect damage when attacked); Yubel second form mirror how after being abandoned Yubel now only care about themselves(effect still only trigger when attacked, destroy any monster regardless of owner) and Ultimate Nightmare they actively are trying to destroy everything. So after Jaden merge with Yubel and show them love, is no longer possible to Yubel to access their evolutions, but they still could turn into Wiseman, which was a regular fusion of Neos and Yubel, and would have been devastating against Paradox
From what we see, Paradox doesn't need to win (or even finish!) a duel to steal the dragon cards. He just absorbed Stardust in the middle of the duel with Yusei and booked it.
Yusei spent most of the duel being the support person while Yugi and Jaden were the front men. However, Yugi and Jaden also both did a lot of support and Yusei got the finishing blow. This maybe controversial, but I feel like Jaden played the most complete duel while Yugi made one crucial move to get Startdust, and Yusei used Stardust to save them. My MVP vote goes to either Yusei or Jaden.
Well, Yusei's cards protected Jaiden and Yugi's monsters. Jaiden's monsters did a lot of effect negating, and did some attacking, as well as Jaiden's spells doing some good work. Yugi used a card for Yusei to do his thing, summoned one monster that let him use one entire spell for the win, and used a spell card to summon another monster which proceeded to do literally nothing but almost die and require protecting by Junk Gardna, before actually dying, and discarded Kiribo to protect them from damage (which was Jaiden's spell) So... Yugi did basically nothing this whole duel. Dark Magician let him use one card, Dark Magician Girl did literally nothing, and Kiribo literally did more than his own monsters. Yugi was actually the Most Worthless Player in this duel.

Sam is a legend for take the time and effort to make this series and I would definitely like to see more from this series. And as for who I personally think put in more of the effort in this duel, it was Yusei for me because I am biased but I am not going to pretend like Yugi and Jaden didn't help out as much as Yusei did.

He actually didn't activate Dark Spiral Force on Dark Magician, the target for the trap was Stardust Dragon, and it made the ATK of Stardust became 10000

The original Raphael Vs Yami duel would be an interesting re-examination. However I feel like that's another one that would entirely come down to speculation on what Yami draws in the next turn. However it is worth considering what, if anything, Yami COULD draw to break Raphael's defense.

Nah Yugi did literally nothing. Dark Magician let him use... a spell, Dark Magician Girl.. did nothing except to pad out the monster field, and Kiribo did the most out of Yugi's monsters by being drawn by Jaiden's spell to keep them alive by being discarded. Yugi used 2 useful spells and that's it. Dark Magician just.. existed for a spell use, and DMG just... sat there.

This movie could've been amazing if it was more than just a singular duel against a largely underwhelming antagonist where each MC had like one turn each roughly. I would've loved just a bit of leg room to have the different protags interact with each other and have a bit more of an adventure. A bit of a condensed Arc-V story even.
Actually, the hypothetical turn where Paradox could win is still possible. Hand on to M. Raindow Dragon, use Malefic Selector to add Malefic Blue eyes and the field spell, the use M. Rainbow's effect the turn he would have summoned red eyes and blue eyes, nuke the field, summon any of his malefic monsters, and win that way. EDIT: Rest in Peace, Kazuki Takahashi. This movie was fun to watch, so was this duel. Thank you for an incredible game for us to play, and an incredible anime series.

I just realized: You criticize when YUSEI summons Stardust, but for the wrong reasons. 1. PARADOX revived it from the grave. 2. Yusei summoned it FROM PARADOX'S grave.
What i like is that this movie was more about Yusei saying the future. Jaden and Yugi basically just help. It starts with Yusei and ends with Yusei even his Stardust dragon finishes the duel when he attacks. Like you said in the video if they really wanted too win they could've used those two traps too do what they did for Stardust since dark magician wasn't attacking. In truth Paradox had no way of winning this duel. You can think about it a lot too figure out where he could've won but every part would lead him too losing no matter what. The only difference is if Yusei didn't have Yugi or Jaden too help. If it aas only two of them like Yusei and Yugi or Yusei and Jaden. Then Paradox may had a chance of winning the duel.
Guys lets also give Paradox some credit, he went up against 3 of the strongest duelists in history and was able to do pretty well, it shows how powerful he and the others from his time were, Z-one for example.
It's very simple this is during the 5ds era and what was a prominent card during that time Gorz the emissary of darkness he was attacking weakest to strongest to play around Gorz all this time
I will say that the turn order is based on a dueling style only seen in Japan (to my knowledge) called Boss duels. In cardshops, the owner or cashier has cards from Yugioh anime villains (there's pegasus and darkness for example) and the turn order progresses like that. There are some major differences between this duel and boss duels (for example, a boss duel gets all their expended cards back at the start of their turn due to a limited pool, and has life points equal to the opponents starting lp x the number of opponents, and the opponents have some once per duel rules they can call upon during the draw phase.)

Good thing that Paradox had Malefic World in his opener. Imagine how hard he would be bricking without it. Excepte he wouldn't have since this is fiction and he would have just drawn the malefics when the plot demanded it. I like how Paradox plays a card that technically doesn't do anything for him
8:33 actually the result still would've been the same even if neos was destroyed with malefic claw stream. A weird thing about Hero barrier is you can activate it at any time as long as there's a face up E HERO. So in the situation a card would destroy all your E HEROs, you can chain Hero Barrier, and you'd still be able to negate one attack even if you didn't control an E Hero. It kinda buffers until you need it to happen because the wording is "you can negate 1 attack" instead of "negate the attack". So the result would've played out the same.
I wish we got another one of these. I so badly wanna see them all interact with some of the more recent protagonists, but make it at least a couple hours or even an arc of a spin-off show so it's not just one person's story with the others playing second fiddle

So, they still take all the damage from Truth Dragon's attack, right? Leaving them with 100. Truth Dragon's effect eventually goes off after being initially stopped and monsters are destroyed. Winged Kuriboh doesn't stop effect damage.

I love how at 0:22, the duel disks slowly get more raised with each person. This leads me to believe when it gets to Yusaku, its gonna do a full 180 flip.
Imagine if yugi had summoned one of the gods during this duel, whichever one it is doesn't really matter but yusei and Jaden would of been in complete aww at having been there to see one up close in person (technically Jaden has seen 2 in person by this point but still)
That's why Paradox have chosen this timeline. Since God Cards weren't even mention to begin with (Besides Obelisk's ofc). But the course is that Atem didn't possess any of it. Some people assumed that it was somewhere before his duel with Arcana, right after it.

It makes sense that Yusei got a slight spotlight. 5D’s was the current anime at the time, so the writers kind of had to let him deal the final blow. I still wish we got a Zexal movie.
@@Gevaudan1471 Yuma is the best protagonist. He is hilarious, his character growth actually shows throughout, and by the end he is such a good duelist on his own that he beat Astral. Who had all the numbers but Utopia. That’s not trash. At least he wasn’t a complete waste like Yuya.

The frustrating thing about stardust in the anime is that they’re always summoning it back to the field after it uses it’s a decrease even though they shouldn’t, jack and yuseis first duel comes to mind even if we don’t see it, that’s likely what was gonna happen.
In terms of Yugioh all I want is a Yugioh GX movie. It'll be amazing to hear the unreleased soundtrack and seeing Jaden dueling with his E-Heros and Neo-Spacians on the big screen
We are talking about Yugi though. He only drew that hand because of what was already on the field. He would have “heart of the cards” out a different hand if he wasn’t going to get Dark Magician through a card effect anyways.

Paradox is a good villain, but you know who they should bring in next time? Nitemare, from Forbidden Memories, also Heishin - now those are some badass villains with a serious threat level
I never got that far in forbidden memories because I tried to do everything I could in ancient Egypt but the game kept forcing me into the future so I gave up on it.

On top of Forbidden Memories and Duelists of the Roses, they also appeared in Dark Duel Stories and Falsebound Kingdom.
@@_Vengeance_ Basically, Kazuki Takahashi was still formulating the ending and the games wanted to have a "proper" ending, so Kazuki came up with them for the games at the time as stand ins for what kind of characters he'd like to have as possible final bosses of the manga. With Heishin being a sort of beta version of Aknadin and Nitemare/Darknite (depending on the game) as a beta version of Dark Priest Zorc. Same goes for Forbidden Memories' version of Ishizu named "Isis" (Forbidden Memories in particular was made some time as he was writing Duelist Kingdom).
One interesting thing - if I'm understanding correctly (I haven't actually watched this movie), then Stardust should never have been able to be summoned AT ALL. Summoning cards by ignoring their summoning conditions only overrides the card's summoning procedure, NOT the rule that special summon monsters must be special summoned properly before you can revive them. Because Stardust was sent directly from the ED to the GY, no effect in the game should be able to summon it back. Probably the most infamous example of this is Dark Flattop, which cannot revive SKY FIRE unless you actually pull off it's dog summoning condition first. Not that it changes the fact that this is an anime duel designed for spectacle that operates on different rules, but coming from the real card game these rulings are very poorly understood by the playerbase and it can be very frustrating to play against at times.
I can see how Paradox not playing at his best with the amount of stress he must have been going through. Coming from a world that was completely ruined. I could see him slipping up.
Why? That duel finished in the anime, if you're referring to the first duel they had: it was stated in the anime that they had the same opening hand as the first time, Dragan even said that his accusation was wrong in the end and that Jack rightfully won the first duel
Actually in anime Thors card is different where it steals a monster's effect for itself. So when dragan uses his effect he still had his gulfaxe of nordic beasts tuner monster. When stealing red nova's effect thor should have gained 500 points making his attack 4000 when he Attacked jack would of lost his second duel but that's my opinion
Dragan would have won the first match And jack won the second one But yeah thor can negate ALL monsters your opponent control and take the effect of one of the monster he negated the effect and use it's effect for that turn So yeah if he targeted red nova Thor would get to 4k and nova to 3.5

Paradox would also have a much higher opportunity to deck out, which makes his field brilliant for this one duel. It replaces his draw with a semi search. In a regular duel this is nice but you would want more search power in addition to what should be your draw. In this duel, it ensures paradox gets the cards he needs without having to empty his deck so fast. It cuts dead draws while keeping him from losing even faster since his deck running is already running out 3 times faster than his opponent. This is a case of rhe card effect working brilliantly for the specific situation in the anime but then not being so great when translated into a real world card for a typical duel.
We can all agree that: Jaden has some sick bars, Paradox did nothing wrong, and last but not least, Yugi definitely won that duel... including the final episode of GX. Also shoutout to very Asian guy.

These breakdowns are really quite fascinating. The amount of work that goes into them must be staggering and I appreciate it. I'd love to see more breakdowns for other duels, even ones that don't seem like they could have gone differently. Actually, I'd like to see a breakdown on Joey vs Marik or Joey vs Odion. I feel like you'd do either one justice with a fair outlook rather than whining that Joey should have won or Marik sucks or whatever the flavor of the day is.

Why do I get the feeling if they ever made that Yu-Gi-Oh GX movie, bastion would be the one that returns? I mean that he would set up a new chain of events that would cause problems.... Maybe if bastion returns from the dimension he was left at, a new villain from another dimension may come through. But hey that's just fans speculation.
There is kind of loophole in the duel when Yusei uses Startdust Dragon's effect. Startdust Dragon originally started the duel in Paradox's extra deck, so it was owned by Paradox. Because of that, when Stardust Dragon returns from the graveyard (and, like you pointed out in the video, let's ignore the fact it was not properly summoned in the first place. lol), it should have been summoned to Paradox's side of field, not Yusei's! @TGS Anime, what do you think? Is there a way the protagonists could have escaped from that?
The only thing that I can think of is that the anime rules work a bit differently. That Malefic Paradox Dragon counts as a proper synchro summon, and that Stardust comes back to the field of whoever used its effect.
I think its more so that stardust wasn't originally paradox's and it plays off that in this case but you know its anime so .. As Seto Kaiba says "Screw the rules, I have money".
Well, to be fair, they are in Yugi's timeline, where Duel Monsters was still a broken, exploitable mess of a game, so it's only natural that the protagonists would exploit the hell out of it.

It's weird that the poll made it look like Yusei is the top, Yugi is second and Last is Jaden but in the comment section there they are 90% sure it was Jaden who should be MVP. It’s almost surreal how equal all of the protagonists were in this duel. You can tell the writer took great care to keep the duel from turning into a one man show.

Yusei: duel disk exists, sparking electricity like it's about to kill him in a freak wiring issue
I always did wonder why Yusei's duel disk was always extended, despite being seemingly the same as Yugi's.

Because it's his duel runner disk and it rarely comes out of the runner unless he's ground dueling. No need for it to compact itself down if it's never gonna be on his arm for long periods of time.

And either he didn’t have all the parts needed to build in the retractable function, or, like somebody else said, maybe he simply felt it wasn’t needed

@@tristantaccad4644 that's basically entirely the case. Yusei managed to come a cross an old non-functional DC era Duel Disk and got it working again. But he was using scrap and spare parts so he wasn't able to make it retract like say Yugi's. This wasn't really a problem seeing as it basically always was on his Duel Runner but it did make it horribly cumbersome should he have to duel on foot. Notably someone like Jack Atlas who was in a similar position to Yusei before hitting the big leagues now has a proper Duel Disk that can fold and retract even with it usually being plugged into his own Duel Runner because he actually could just buy one.
This does mean Yusei's Duel Disk, as good of a mechanic as he is, probably also could kill a person from a wiring error.
My favorite part of this movie is when Yugi goes "Synchro what?" after Yusei summons Junk Gardna. The line was so masterfully delivered that I can never help but to laugh at that line
Then Jaden immediately going "I don't know but I like it. Too cool" Just adds to it for me
For the irl tournament live voice actor duels they repeated this joke with Yousei dueling a pendulum duelist and being really confused
The best part is that moment of "watdafaq?" is shared by his generation of watchers. Trying my best to hear the new mechanics added to YGO is like being stuck in a foreign country.
To my fellow Atems/Yugiboomers out there, the designs of Extra Deck summons are just Fusions with different (but usually just less) specificity each time.
Fusion: 2 or more specific named monsters, using a specific named spell as the catalyst.
Synchro: Fuse using varied levels rather than names, using a specific type of monster as the catalyst.
XYZ: Fuse using specific and exact matching levels, no catalyst required for the summon itself but instead using the materials as a catalyst for the card's effects.
Pendulum: Not really an extra deck mechanic so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Link, MR4: Fuse using any monsters of any kind, using a specific zone on your board as the first catalyst and the arrows of previous links as subsequent catalysts.
Link, MR5: Lmao who needs catalysts or levels or anything else, just fuse your board, who gives a damn anymore, Konami just wants your money and they don't care about consistent game design

1. As fusion got more support, the requirements got less specific. Just look at any modern-day fusion deck. Almost all of them just say, "Any 2 monsters of *Insert archetype or attribute here*"
2. While rare, there are certain sychros that required specifically named monsters. I.E. The majestic synchros and nordics.

Based on the end credits of the movie, which showed just about every card used in the duel, the card that Yusei drew for turn was Speed Warrior.

you know, this duel is literally the definition of action economy (Paradox has 3 turns) VS card advantage (paradox: 5 cards vs protags: 15).
That's not true. They each had the equal number of turns. It's just no card advantage vs card advantage.
@@NestedQuantifier Not quite. The difference here is that Paradox's deck is synergistic with itself, whereas the protagonists were dependent on more generic combinations of cards. Each of the protagonists also only had two turns, while Paradox had six, meaning he could dig deeper and get more of his combos out. There was only the one specific synergy between Jaden and Yugi in regards to Flute of Summoning Kuriboh. In effect, the game was dependent on what the protagonists' starting hands were when it comes to whether or not they could win, while Paradox had the benefit of getting more cards and not having to be reliant on awkward boardstates.

Unfortunately for Paradox he was also dueling against Yugi's Millennium item, the Millennium Puzzle. In addition to housing the spirit of Atem, it has the power to alter destiny just as long as you use it with the right mindset. Paradox's defeat was set even before the start of the duel.

I think it actually would've been EVEN WORSE if it was a 1v3 but either of those two went first instead of Yusei.
In a 1v1, Jaden could've played Flute of Summoning Kuriboh to stall out one turn, and then he could've *prayed* to draw Yubel to Fusion Summon Neos Wiseman, and then he could've attacked and won the duel.
As for Yugi...well yeah there's nothing he could've done lol

Also he didn't even have Mahad because this takes place right before Waking the Dragons.
12:28. Honestly I think that detail sets up that first scene from GX. Yugi giving a younger Jayden Winged Kuriboh. He could have remembered this duel and had Winged Kuriboh and gave Jayden that card so he would have a reason to put that card needed to summon a Kuriboh later on. Keeping history in tact and not making a paradox situation (no pun intended)

I always had Jaden as the MVP. He knew Yugi’s deck and quickly picked up Yusei’s strengths to play off of along with some clutch saves.

I think the reason they had Stardust dragon deal the final blow rather than Dark magician is because it’s the most satisfying narratively. That was the signature monster stolen by paradox while Yusei also had the strongest character connections to Paradox since he appeared in 5ds
technically, yusei misplayed on paradox's 2nd turn, so when paradox attacked with malefic rainbow dragon, yusei couldve used junk gardna's effect to switch malefic cyber end dragon to defense, then use its other effect to switch rainbow to defense, which would prevent the trio from taking any damage at all
On the 'albeit' Yusei may not have known that Malefic Cyber End Dragon can do piercing damage, so he wouldn't have known to target Cyber End instead.

It always bugged me Paradox didn't seem to know what stardust's effect was, despite stealing it, having it in his deck, summoning it and creating an evil counterpart of it. I mean it didn't matter in the duel but still.

To be fair, he had only recently stolen it, and his records only told him "the most powerful dragons in Duel Monsters", not necessarily what their effects were. There are also some differences between the Malefics and their counterparts (such as Malefic Rainbow working with other Malefics instead of Crystal Beasts). He was probably only aware that Stardust was among the ranks of the most powerful dragons, and basically only stole it to make the Malefic version without considering the actual reason why Stardust was one of the strongest dragons in the first place.
12:32 also another fun fact this is actually paradox's monster at the start of the duel so would either return to his field or go to his graveyard even if stardust dragon could be summoned this way.
There are a few times where characters have their key cards stolen by people, and mid-duel reclaim them. I've recently been watching Arc-V, so the one that comes to mind for me is Yuya vs Sawatari.

My reasoning for why this didn't happen in terms of anime logic is that Paradox didn't steal the physical Stardust Dragon card, but rather stole the monster from the original card and put it into a pseudo card. So when Yugi took control of Stardust Dragon, it essentially returned that monster back into the original card it came from, meaning Yusei fully owned Stardust again. It's convoluted, I know, but then again, so is Paradox.

I'd personally say it was Jaden because the flute of summoning kuriboh even in the anime let's you summon winged kuriboh to the field and if it was destroyed due to an effect they wouldn't of taken any battle damage for the rest of the turn and would of survived

Also i found out why in the anime he wouldn't have taken battle damage sure but Truth Dragon was effect damage which would be burn damage. So winged kuriboh effect wouldn't have work. It would've protected damage from dark magician being destroyed by battle. Yet it wouldn't have stop Truth dragon effect too burn them for damage. It would've just been another monster. So knowing anime logic it was better for normal Kuriboh too be used.

I’d like to further point out that, due to time travel shenanigans, Jaden’s Winged Kuriboh (which Yugi gave over to Jaden at the start of GX) was theoretically in Yugi’s possession at the time not unlike how GX’s anime revealed Yugi had Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Behinning in his deck. By all accounts, Yugi could’ve just summoned Winged Kuriboh’s past self to the same end goal.

Honestly I both sides basically played their safest moves that benefited them the most. Honestly i think the gameplan before the duel started was if possible get stardust back and get as much a symbolic win as it was a true win. Also i think paradox is technically an inexperienced duelist (in the sense of battle experience) with a decent deck.Yes he took those cards but he's a time traveller as well he could have picked the times a duelist was at their weakest or learned a flaw in that solo deck and exploited. Which is part of the reason why he was basically doomed against the 3 protags...one of them maybe he could beat but all 3 he wouldn't know how the decks work together

Yubel evolution were a reflection of they suffering due to being forgotten by Jaden. Their effects reflect that very well: base Yubel effect mirror how their mere presence hurt Jaden despite their effords to protect him(have a maintenance cost, reflect damage when attacked); Yubel second form mirror how after being abandoned Yubel now only care about themselves(effect still only trigger when attacked, destroy any monster regardless of owner) and Ultimate Nightmare they actively are trying to destroy everything.
So after Jaden merge with Yubel and show them love, is no longer possible to Yubel to access their evolutions, but they still could turn into Wiseman, which was a regular fusion of Neos and Yubel, and would have been devastating against Paradox
From what we see, Paradox doesn't need to win (or even finish!) a duel to steal the dragon cards. He just absorbed Stardust in the middle of the duel with Yusei and booked it.
Yusei spent most of the duel being the support person while Yugi and Jaden were the front men. However, Yugi and Jaden also both did a lot of support and Yusei got the finishing blow. This maybe controversial, but I feel like Jaden played the most complete duel while Yugi made one crucial move to get Startdust, and Yusei used Stardust to save them. My MVP vote goes to either Yusei or Jaden.
Well, Yusei's cards protected Jaiden and Yugi's monsters. Jaiden's monsters did a lot of effect negating, and did some attacking, as well as Jaiden's spells doing some good work.
Yugi used a card for Yusei to do his thing, summoned one monster that let him use one entire spell for the win, and used a spell card to summon another monster which proceeded to do literally nothing but almost die and require protecting by Junk Gardna, before actually dying, and discarded Kiribo to protect them from damage (which was Jaiden's spell)
So... Yugi did basically nothing this whole duel. Dark Magician let him use one card, Dark Magician Girl did literally nothing, and Kiribo literally did more than his own monsters.
Yugi was actually the Most Worthless Player in this duel.

Sam is a legend for take the time and effort to make this series and I would definitely like to see more from this series. And as for who I personally think put in more of the effort in this duel, it was Yusei for me because I am biased but I am not going to pretend like Yugi and Jaden didn't help out as much as Yusei did.
I love situations like this, trio duels vs one big foe feel so awesome, this one, and the one in zexal, gave me chills

The original Raphael Vs Yami duel would be an interesting re-examination. However I feel like that's another one that would entirely come down to speculation on what Yami draws in the next turn. However it is worth considering what, if anything, Yami COULD draw to break Raphael's defense.

Nah Yugi did literally nothing. Dark Magician let him use... a spell, Dark Magician Girl.. did nothing except to pad out the monster field, and Kiribo did the most out of Yugi's monsters by being drawn by Jaiden's spell to keep them alive by being discarded.
Yugi used 2 useful spells and that's it. Dark Magician just.. existed for a spell use, and DMG just... sat there.

This movie could've been amazing if it was more than just a singular duel against a largely underwhelming antagonist where each MC had like one turn each roughly. I would've loved just a bit of leg room to have the different protags interact with each other and have a bit more of an adventure. A bit of a condensed Arc-V story even.
In that case you could just have the antagonist be Zarc after he goes insane, setting up that storyline for a future series.
Actually, the hypothetical turn where Paradox could win is still possible. Hand on to M. Raindow Dragon, use Malefic Selector to add Malefic Blue eyes and the field spell, the use M. Rainbow's effect the turn he would have summoned red eyes and blue eyes, nuke the field, summon any of his malefic monsters, and win that way.
EDIT: Rest in Peace, Kazuki Takahashi. This movie was fun to watch, so was this duel. Thank you for an incredible game for us to play, and an incredible anime series.
Jaiden was mvp for me. His cards were key to their success more than anyone else's. Elemental Mirage alone was required for this win to occur.

I just realized: You criticize when YUSEI summons Stardust, but for the wrong reasons.
1. PARADOX revived it from the grave.
2. Yusei summoned it FROM PARADOX'S grave.
What i like is that this movie was more about Yusei saying the future. Jaden and Yugi basically just help. It starts with Yusei and ends with Yusei even his Stardust dragon finishes the duel when he attacks. Like you said in the video if they really wanted too win they could've used those two traps too do what they did for Stardust since dark magician wasn't attacking.
In truth Paradox had no way of winning this duel. You can think about it a lot too figure out where he could've won but every part would lead him too losing no matter what. The only difference is if Yusei didn't have Yugi or Jaden too help. If it aas only two of them like Yusei and Yugi or Yusei and Jaden. Then Paradox may had a chance of winning the duel.

I will say that the turn order is based on a dueling style only seen in Japan (to my knowledge) called Boss duels. In cardshops, the owner or cashier has cards from Yugioh anime villains (there's pegasus and darkness for example) and the turn order progresses like that. There are some major differences between this duel and boss duels (for example, a boss duel gets all their expended cards back at the start of their turn due to a limited pool, and has life points equal to the opponents starting lp x the number of opponents, and the opponents have some once per duel rules they can call upon during the draw phase.)

A weird thing about Hero barrier is you can activate it at any time as long as there's a face up E HERO. So in the situation a card would destroy all your E HEROs, you can chain Hero Barrier, and you'd still be able to negate one attack even if you didn't control an E Hero.
It kinda buffers until you need it to happen because the wording is "you can negate 1 attack" instead of "negate the attack". So the result would've played out the same.
I wish we got another one of these. I so badly wanna see them all interact with some of the more recent protagonists, but make it at least a couple hours or even an arc of a spin-off show so it's not just one person's story with the others playing second fiddle

The frustrating thing about stardust in the anime is that they’re always summoning it back to the field after it uses it’s a decrease even though they shouldn’t, jack and yuseis first duel comes to mind even if we don’t see it, that’s likely what was gonna happen.

I never got that far in forbidden memories because I tried to do everything I could in ancient Egypt but the game kept forcing me into the future so I gave up on it.
I always wondered why they never used them, considering they appear in multiple games.

@@GODOFAWSOMENESS1 Yeah, they also appeared in Duelists of the Roses (well, Nitemare only as Darknite, but he uses a Darknite-style deck in 1 story (heavily focused on Spells/Traps) and a Nitemare-style deck in the other (heavily focused on Monsters)).
On top of Forbidden Memories and Duelists of the Roses, they also appeared in Dark Duel Stories and Falsebound Kingdom.
@@_Vengeance_ Basically, Kazuki Takahashi was still formulating the ending and the games wanted to have a "proper" ending, so Kazuki came up with them for the games at the time as stand ins for what kind of characters he'd like to have as possible final bosses of the manga. With Heishin being a sort of beta version of Aknadin and Nitemare/Darknite (depending on the game) as a beta version of Dark Priest Zorc.
Same goes for Forbidden Memories' version of Ishizu named "Isis" (Forbidden Memories in particular was made some time as he was writing Duelist Kingdom).
One interesting thing - if I'm understanding correctly (I haven't actually watched this movie), then Stardust should never have been able to be summoned AT ALL. Summoning cards by ignoring their summoning conditions only overrides the card's summoning procedure, NOT the rule that special summon monsters must be special summoned properly before you can revive them. Because Stardust was sent directly from the ED to the GY, no effect in the game should be able to summon it back. Probably the most infamous example of this is Dark Flattop, which cannot revive SKY FIRE unless you actually pull off it's dog summoning condition first.
Not that it changes the fact that this is an anime duel designed for spectacle that operates on different rules, but coming from the real card game these rulings are very poorly understood by the playerbase and it can be very frustrating to play against at times.
I can see how Paradox not playing at his best with the amount of stress he must have been going through. Coming from a world that was completely ruined. I could see him slipping up.

Why? That duel finished in the anime, if you're referring to the first duel they had: it was stated in the anime that they had the same opening hand as the first time, Dragan even said that his accusation was wrong in the end and that Jack rightfully won the first duel
I'm pretty sure the idea was that Dragan would've won though because Jack didn't have Red Nova in their first duel which was crucial in beating Thor.
Actually in anime Thors card is different where it steals a monster's effect for itself. So when dragan uses his effect he still had his gulfaxe of nordic beasts tuner monster. When stealing red nova's effect thor should have gained 500 points making his attack 4000 when he Attacked jack would of lost his second duel but that's my opinion

But yeah thor can negate ALL monsters your opponent control and take the effect of one of the monster he negated the effect and use it's effect for that turn

@@heroeus8173 but Jack could chain Anime Red Nova, to remove it from play and have the ability to negate 1 attack from Dragan in the same turn.(Though he also didn't use Anime Red Novas effect against Broder, but he used it against Primo and Lester...)
Paradox would also have a much higher opportunity to deck out, which makes his field brilliant for this one duel. It replaces his draw with a semi search. In a regular duel this is nice but you would want more search power in addition to what should be your draw. In this duel, it ensures paradox gets the cards he needs without having to empty his deck so fast. It cuts dead draws while keeping him from losing even faster since his deck running is already running out 3 times faster than his opponent. This is a case of rhe card effect working brilliantly for the specific situation in the anime but then not being so great when translated into a real world card for a typical duel.
We can all agree that: Jaden has some sick bars, Paradox did nothing wrong, and last but not least, Yugi definitely won that duel... including the final episode of GX. Also shoutout to very Asian guy.

De-Fusion in the anime literally let Marik 'defuse' himself from Ra and gain LP. It can do anything.

These breakdowns are really quite fascinating. The amount of work that goes into them must be staggering and I appreciate it. I'd love to see more breakdowns for other duels, even ones that don't seem like they could have gone differently.
Actually, I'd like to see a breakdown on Joey vs Marik or Joey vs Odion. I feel like you'd do either one justice with a fair outlook rather than whining that Joey should have won or Marik sucks or whatever the flavor of the day is.

Yusei's is an upgrade model of the original, and Jaden's is a school model.

Why do I get the feeling if they ever made that Yu-Gi-Oh GX movie, bastion would be the one that returns? I mean that he would set up a new chain of events that would cause problems.... Maybe if bastion returns from the dimension he was left at, a new villain from another dimension may come through.

There is kind of loophole in the duel when Yusei uses Startdust Dragon's effect.
Startdust Dragon originally started the duel in Paradox's extra deck, so it was owned by Paradox. Because of that, when Stardust Dragon returns from the graveyard (and, like you pointed out in the video, let's ignore the fact it was not properly summoned in the first place. lol), it should have been summoned to Paradox's side of field, not Yusei's!

The only thing that I can think of is that the anime rules work a bit differently. That Malefic Paradox Dragon counts as a proper synchro summon, and that Stardust comes back to the field of whoever used its effect.
I think its more so that stardust wasn't originally paradox's and it plays off that in this case but you know its anime so .. As Seto Kaiba says "Screw the rules, I have money".
Well, to be fair, they are in Yugi's timeline, where Duel Monsters was still a broken, exploitable mess of a game, so it's only natural that the protagonists would exploit the hell out of it.
@@themasterofw4295 I mean, you could make the argument that since Yusei's duel against Paradox at the beginning of the movie technically never finished, Paradox only had control of Stardust and not ownership.
