    I have a 2003 bandit in the shed at the moment, prime position just lets you fill the float bowls without the engine running, the floats still stop the fuel flooding the cylinders

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's common that older floats let some fuel through. Some let dribbles through and others let lots through. In this case his appeared to let some through so that at least 1 cylinder was over fueling.
      All sorted now though

    Definitely will be an interesting video today(the second part)!
    What a discovery!
    Surprising that we haven’t noticed it so far…
    The ride I had yesterday it’s one to remember for sure.

      Yeh I noticed it but then needed to see if it was prime or off.
      Big interesting twist tomorrow

    If on prime and overflowed the carbs check the oil as they are prone to fill the cylinders with fuel and then into the oil filling up cases. As I wrote this you checked it

    • @chrisktm2010
      @chrisktm2010 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And the air box fills up. Mine does it all the time. In theory the float needles should stop it but overtime they give in and fail.

    Fuel taps aren’t the issue it’s the breather on the tank that causes that problem petrol in engine ,never had a tap failure on any my bandits had five ,one 400 12 ,three sixes ,love the mk ones ,

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It wasn't in the end although being in prime had overwhelmed the carbs causing slight bad running.
      Got it sorted in 1 day today after a bit of work

  • @rickconstant6106
    @rickconstant6106 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Having fuel in the oil is not like having water contamination - it doesn't stay separate and settle to the bottom like water, it mixes with the oil and thins it down. Your best indication is the smell of the oil - it will smell strongly of petrol if it's contaminated.

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was clear of fuel but we are changing it just to be sure Rick.

    If Gary is reporting a loss of fuel and it isn't in the oil.....Air filter .
    Check the emulsion tubes in the carb if cleaning Charlie, just in case blocked.
    Supermarket fuel is not the best if not burning through a whole tank ... seems to attract water.

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the fuel loss wasn't really happening if I'm being honest. I checked the oil and carbs and all was well.
      There is an interesting twist in tomorrows video though

      @@motorcyclerescuer oh really, its on 28k. I only purchased it 2 weeks ago its been in a garage since 2020, I put clean fuel in and some carb cleaner but hasn't made any difference. It just died on me the other day and after about 40 mins in started again, I didn't know about the fuel tap positioning.

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Bandit_6oo it could be anything I'm afraid.
      It may need a good proper carb clean as bits of rubbish may be blocking some of the jets.
      It could definitely be valves as they could be in speck why cold but when warm expand out of speck.
      It could also be coils as sometimes they work when cold buy stop once warm.
      So some things for you to check there

    My mk1 bandit revs high when warm any ideas ?

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It could be a number of things I'm afraid. Stuck choke, air leak somewhere, badly adjusted air/fuel screws, carbs need cleaning.
      I would start by looking for a air leak. Start the engine and spray something flammable near the carbs, hairspray or deodorant will work. If the revs lift or the engine dies then you have air leaking in from somewhere.
      Hope this helps a little.

    My bandit: 1998. The fuel tap failed. It was over 20 years old, so it was not a shock.
    It stopped shutting off the fuel when the engine was off.
    Then the carb float valves stopped sealing, and fuel flowed overnight.
    I drained 5 litters out, it only holds 3.3L. The engine oil was almost a 50:50 oil:petrol mix.
    Fix: new genuine Suzuki fuel tap, and a full strip and rebuild of the carbs. These bikes are getting old, mine is 26. The carbs were full of bacteria and rust.
    Clean the float seats with Q-Tips, and fit new needles.

      @motorcyclerescuer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This one was a 2005 model so still getting old but in OK condition overall. I think its finished now after a recent crash though sadly

      I just did this exact thing on my 98. Now it starts for about 2 seconds then stalls. Looking into changing the spark plugs and a new air filter because the air filter was covered in backflow petrol as well.

    • @motorcyclerescuer
      @motorcyclerescuer  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes good idea. Change oil, clean or change sparks and check air filter incase it's soaked in fuel.
      The bike will be fine once a basic service is done.
