Careful with that 78hp! Tbh it's all you need. I've had a bunch of 150bhp bikes and my mk2 600 bandit had more than enough poke for any situation. My ego said I needed stupid power but my ability never matched my ego. Good result! 👍🤗❤️
If you do swell the diaphragms by getting carb cleaner on them and they change shape dont worry!!! Soak them in water over night, they will go right back to original size.
Oh really, is that a thing? I've never been able to save diaphragms once they had stretched. I'll give this a shot next time I come across this issue. Thanks mate
I mistakenly soaked the diaphragms in carb cleaner. They became completely out of shape. I was very disappointed and was going to have to order new ones. I soaked them in water over night and to my surprise....they went right back to their original shape and retained the same rubbery properties. I chemist is going to have to explain to me how that is possible, but it is!@@motorcyclerescuer
Fit an aftermarket jet kit and seals and idle mixture screws 3 turns out and if piston rings are free, watch it fly. Run it on Halford oil as cheap and perfectly adequate (made by coma oil I believe) had mine 21 years from new
@@motorcyclerescuer had my bandit since 2002 new and always a flat spot around 5-6k REPAIR KIT CARB Rebuild 26-1664 made by All Bulls Racing has nicely machined parts and it now flies compared to stock kit. That's interesting, I've never seen/felt a flat spot on any bandits that I can remember. They are normally super smooth throughout the rev range. But yes as you say, stock jetting included slight restriction for emissions reasons. Either too rich or too lean.
pretty sure my bandit is restricted to .. had it moted or whatever its called in the UK .. and it says "constructive changes" .. wich could be restriction and thats nothing special about the bikes looks .. but it does feel a bit "slow" getting up there
The mot wouldn't be able to pick up on any mechanical issues or restrictions. Constructive changes I'm guessing is something structural that's changed. New swing arm, new shocks, or new seat etc
I checked and they were original jets. I was curious about that aswell. I'm actually surprised this kinda system works, just blocking air/fuel flow. I feel like it should back itself up or something. Cheers mate
I'm surprised how good it ran and sounded. I've had plenty bandits aswell. This is a 2005 though so possibly the best one before lower emissions took over
It's great that you got Gary mobile again, and I bet he's over the moon with the extra horses. Never would have thought it had restrictions on it but not paid much attention, to be honest. Nice one Charlie 👍
Fuel never touches them Terence, but when cleaning some people spray up into their area and carb cleaners aren't very good for rubber. So I tend not to mess with them unless I really feel that they may need changing
I’m, fair anchoring over a nice bandit, year not so important but I would gladly swap my Honda NT700VA 2007 with 25,000 true miles on it for the right one. Preferably a 1200 Mines as always with my bikes immaculate, truly as new with no signs of winter damage. At 63 even though I should know better I’m having strong urges, lol, keep your eyes out for one if you could Charlie, I only took mine for it’s Mot plus one 90 mile ride last year, I dare not say anything to my wife at the moment cos I actually said this would be my last bike ever!
The 1200 bandits are starting to get more rare. I had one some years back and didn't feel the power to weight was much better then the 600 really. If the 1200 is slightly tuned it can be incredible.
Also tell him not to use choke now and the bike will never need it , my both bandits never need choke even in winter I’d just hit the button let em sit for couple off min and off I’d go even in winter I’d put ten mil off iso,in fuel tank stopped the carbs icing up ,there realy good tough bikes ,
Mate, the sound of that bike is fucking ridicoulus ! Thats the fucking best sound I've heard in my life. Please let me know which exhaust this is. I will buy it straight away... nice work guys. Best regards from Germany
Hi Niklas, it's a blue flame exhaust. It has 2 holes coming out of it which makes that sound. www.google.com/search?q=blueflame+exhaust&client=ms-unknown&prmd=sivn&sxsrf=APwXEdc-utI3BU7EjILxdwwh4JZNJMDl4w:1680936817446&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjk7JLP2Zn-AhWNNcAKHUJnCQ4Q_AUoAnoECAIQAg&biw=412&bih=652&dpr=2.63#imgrc=ONHyrtHeMN0qfM&lnspr=W10=
They were round discs that sit in the intake part of each carb and slow down the airflow and restrict the bike to 33bhp. It's to do with the old UK licence rules.
@@motorcyclerescuer Oh you poor guys.. not that big of a deal to remove i guess, thankfully here in Canada we dont have quite as much over-reach by big brother.
The sound of glory. Great work mate. Enjoyed it. I am thinking of getting a Bandit. I am not sure of getting a 2001-2004 or 2005 to 2006. The latest was the last one with carbs. What do you think? Got my like here.
Honestly I like a bandit from mk 1 upwards but something about the more basic nature of the earlier ones appeals to me. Saying that this one, Gary's one is so smooth. So honestly I think you can't go wrong with whatever you get. I highly recommend a blue flame twin exit end pipe on these. One if the best sounds out there. Thanks for watching.
Great question, I prefer the 600 for its revs, but the 650 does feel a touch better on torque. Gary's 2005/2006 model is the best of all worlds I believe. Old bandit looks with a great carbed engine. I suggest you try both before buying. You won't feel much difference between them so it will probably come down to looks though.
@@motorcyclerescuer By the way how tall are you? The 2001-2004 model has a slightly higher seat. :) You tried both that is why I am asking. Thanks mate.
I'm 5.9. I've never found any bike to tall and the rear can be changed easily enough with new dog bones. Or seat can be shaved So I wouldn't worry to much.

Hi Stephen, was it high tickover before cleaning? It could be a few issues mate. Idle screw adjustment. Balance issues Diaphragm issues especially after cleaning carbs. If any of the cleaner got onto the Diaphragms then they could have got out of shape. Air leak would also cause idle issues. So a suction tube not put back on or a carb boot not fully seated. You will have to look into all of these to try and find your issue mate
@@motorcyclerescuer Unfortunately im based in Birmingham having some issues with my bandit 600 that purchased few weeks ago, the bike had pods fitted but carbs hasn’t been rejected to suit them, basically replaced with stock air box and new hi flow filter, but now probably need to adjust the carbs
