Very long and too little time on the actual device and setting it up. Name of device also not given, I appreciate your passion but would have preferred more about the function, pros and cons etc,. What happens to the Tesla Nav when CarPlay is being used. Can you still see streets and traffic?
You’re right. I got too carried away with the personality stuff instead of the actual item. To be honest you just get used to the Tesla operating system and start forgetting about Apple car play like it’s your ex girlfriend 😂

That’s what I noticed too. I got it from them and they must’ve changed the product itself. Same gadget but it looks different now. I’m sure it works the same.
It's been a few months since you posted this video. Are you still using it? How are you liking it?
I only use it when I want to use Waze and that’s rare. I use Waze to help avoid speed traps from cops on a long drive that I know I’ll be driving faster than 65mph on those long empty roads.
So I guess my main question is, can I use my Hoover or Lyft app in my phone so it shows up on my Tesla screen? Also I can’t find the discount code

What is the name of this device? Will it work if I’m driving for Uber or Lyft as in terms of can I press on the Tesla screen and at least open up my map for Uber or Lyft or do I have to open up my map on my iPhone, and it just mirrors it to the Tesla screen?
You can leave your phone alone and open up the map from the screen using this.
Hello Myong Hong ! I appreciate your video ! I'd like to ask you if the location in waze is as accurate as usual while you're driving ? By that , I mean it doesn't show your position 100m back than you should be ? As I'm a commuter in Europe , we tend to have a lot of exits or crossing roads in an narrow area and it's just a "turn off" if we miss them because of this latency . I'm about to receive my MY long range very soon . Not gonna lie , eventhough it's tesla , I'm still pretty worried about my migration towards EV hehehe
I read your message and I went driving around to test it and compare it to tesla map. Waze is very accurate. It’s almost precise to my location and gives direction to get ready to turn twice before actually turning. I like the tesla voice better but Waze has so many cool features. You’re gonna be like me. Once I got my Tesla, i don’t enjoy driving my regular car. We have a pathfinder and it now drives me crazy to hold down the break compared to EV cars just slowing down immediately when you let go of the pedal and barely use your brakes.

I think that will work! You have to always set it up but it will technically work.

Well you definitely are not allowed to play video while driving. It can easily be the biggest distraction. You see cat playing a piano and all your focus will be on that epic cat! 😂

is this model only apple carplay product or does it also work on android auto?
Yes it works with android auto also. This is definitely the cheapest and easiest way to get that in your Tesla. You can also get an Apple CarPlay / android auto display. It just plugs into your usb c cable and you just easily mount it. I recommend this for the simplest way to get it and nicest looking. I made a video about this. This replaces premium connectivity if you decide you don’t want to pay for that. It runs off your phone hotspot.
@@CameraToFreedomI am against paying for premium connectivity. Having to click "Connect to iPhone" every time I get in the car doesn't seem realistic. However, after only a month with the car, I guess I will go for it.
I noticed that you kept the 5-inch display instead of the 9-inch. Is there a specific reason for this? I am torn between the two sizes, but the air blocking here in Florida makes me think twice about it.
You’re right. That alone was enough for me to just pay for the premium connectivity, but when I was testing out this Apple CarPlay, it will automatically connect to my phone sometimes. I only really use it when I want to use Waze and have that on the big screen just so I can avoid the cops.😂

This is a fun way to add Apple CarPlay but you can also add it with a front mini display too :)
does using the hotspot on my Iphone cost money for data?
You can actually use your phone to hotspot your Tesla. If you don’t wanna pay for the premium connectivity but you have to always manually connected every time you get in the car plus, I think you will lose the ability do you century mode from your phone

Display front monitor has car play. The rear screen has car play too.

You do! You have to use your phone hotspot to make this work. It’s a great alternative to not paying for tesla premium internet then you can use this CarPlay. Do you have hotspot in your phone?

Thanks Dupree! It’s super easy. This works off of the web browser so you just flip it down and it’s instantly your tesla screen. It’s great if you don’t want to pay for premium tesla internet so you can just use this apple CarPlay and won’t need to pay that $10 per month.
I just received and installed the device today. The setup was easy, the issue is every time I get out and walk away, the car locks as expected, but when I return, I have to completely reset the device to get it to work again. I'm not sure if I have a defective unit or is this Norman. This is a deal breaker for me
Reset the whole unit? Did you have to unplug and plug it in? You have to connect to your phone hotspot again but that should be it. It would be amazing if it stayed on but Tesla makes it where it disconnects Wi-Fi and you always have to reconnect when you get in.
Ok. After more testing. It looks like I will have to unplug and the plug back in in order to connect. That seems to work, I just wish I didn’t have to unplug every time to get it to work.
Ok so I tested it out few times. When I walk far away and it disconnects and I come back in. I just have to connect my Bluetooth on my phone to it and the Wi-Fi hotspot to my phone is automatically connected and it works right away after. Maybe you got a defective one? 🤨
Can you use this without having a premium subscription which gives you internet. Like does it continue once I start driving?
This is a great alternative to not getting premium subscription. You connect this to your phone hotspot and not you have Apple CarPlay in your big screen. You can use apple, Waze and google map on it. Screen scrolling might look a little laggy since it runs through Wi-Fi but I promise you all the maps and softwares run at full speed.

It only lags when you flip through screen but once any app is on like Waze, then it’s 100% of the speed. I tested it. It’s running through Wi-Fi for turning screens.
Try using CarPlay on a 2019 VW. Worse lag in the built in system than in this video.

That’s a big im sure tesla will fix soon. Just open your browser when you are driving mode.

You do know that if you pay for premium connectivity in your Tesla you get a Spotify premium account for free? Albeit you can’t log in to it on other devices.

I have Tesla premium connectivity but when I tried to pair Spotify’s QR code that appeared on my screen it says I need a Spotify premium account.
@@brandonlee93 that is true. If you want to use your already existing account to log in that account has to be a premium account. But if you don’t have a Spotify account the car will get one. But you can’t log in with it anywhere else.
How do i do this? Ive had my car for 4 years and i used a modded spotify for my phone and connect via Bluetooth... but i would like to use the tesla spotify if it is indeed free @driver288
I still miss the simplicity of using Siri straight through my phone in my 23-year-old car. Whenever I text it misses the first 3 words even when I wait a long time, so I've given up texting in the car.

I can understand that, but they could definitively add a Waze App. My Tesla tries to take me through a closed road every day from work 😂 It has been closed for a year and will be for several years do to repairs in a major tunnel in the city.
