Winter Cab Ride Tirano - Pontresina (Rhaetian Railway, Bernina railway line - Switzerland, Italy) 4K

- In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view from Tirano in Italy (441 m) to Pontresina in Switzerland (1,773 m) along the Bernina Railway line. You can enjoy this video in the resolution of 4K/60 frames per second.
The Bernina railway line is a single-track 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) metre gauge railway line forming part of the Rhaetian Railway (RhB). It links the spa resort of St. Moritz, in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland, with the town of Tirano, in the Province of Sondrio, Italy, via the Bernina Pass. St Moritz is the terminus of both the Albula line and the Bernina line. As the two lines are powered by different electrification systems, they meet at the same station but operate on separate lines from separate platforms. Reaching a height of 2,253 metres (7,392 ft) above sea level, it is the third-highest railway crossing in Europe and the third-highest railway in Switzerland. It also ranks as the highest adhesion railway on the continent, and - with inclines of up to 7% - as one of the steepest adhesion railways in the world. The elevation difference on the section between the Bernina Pass and Tirano is 1,824 m (5,984 ft), which makes it the open-air railway with the greatest height difference.
On 7 July 2008, the Bernina Railway and the Albula Railway, which also forms part of the RhB, were recorded in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, under the name Rhaetian Railway in the Albula / Bernina Landscapes. The whole site is a cross-border joint Swiss-Italian heritage area.
The trip on the Bernina Express through this World Heritage Site is a four-hour railway journey across 196 bridges, through 55 tunnels and across the Bernina Pass at 2,253 metres above the sea.

I apologize in advance, that photo is not exactly from that ride, but it was the most beautiful picture that I could find from that train representing Bernina pass in the winter time with lots of snow.
What are those wooden triangular shaped things sticking up out of the ground around Bernina pass?
@ronm3245 Those are avalanche protection.
Mi fa piacere.
@@RailRelaxation Sorry, but I think we're not talking about the same thing. Avalanche protection looks like nets or some other kind of barrier set up on hillsides. I am referring to small collections of what look like large bombs stuck into the ground with only their wooden fins sticking out. They are not on hillsides where an avalanche might occur, but just some here and there, without any obvious point to them. Maybe they have something to do with snow drift protection, but even then I don't see how. I was unable to find an image of them anywhere on the internet. My guess is that they are someone's artistic display and serve no other purpose.
You mean you accidentally click baited us 😅
As always - thanx for the ride. The quality & stabilization of your filmmaking is unsurpassed.
Thanks to you I can experience the beautiful sights & scenes that I know I will never be able to do.👍👍👍👍👍☀☀☀☀☀
Great to hear! It is my pleasure to share those beautiful lines with you.
Siwtzerland is such a beautiful country.
@Mako2401 It really is.
What a nice feeling it is to journey from a historic cityscape to a snowy winter wonderland with a beautiful lake and river nestled in between along the railway line. Simply breathtaking scenery! It's amazing to see all the changes in landscape along the way.
@RunVirtual5 Well said. It is breathtaking. For me is just amazing. To ride in the middle of the snowy landscape.
Great trip! Beautiful clear weather. The video quality was superb and also the audio, you could even hear the noise of car tires on the highway and the bells on crossings!
@tomshaw9065 Glad you enjoyed it!
Vielen Dank!

Stunning landscape. Beautiful ride. Absolutely enjoyable. Thank you.
@chrisbillington3341 My pleasure! It is a stunning ride.
Hello to Slovenia, I only need one word again: fantastic. 👍🏻😊Thank you very much for taking it with you. Best regards 🙋🏼♂️
You are very welcome. I wish you a nice evening.
Great ride! I did this same journey on january 28th, 2024 and I had the same wonderful weather!
So, thank you so much for making me re-enjoy this fairytail beautiful journey😊❤.
@theaw.4798 Great. It was filmed just a couple of weeks before you went there. Glad you enjoyed it!
Occasional humming of happy tunes.🙂
🙂
Cheers! Never get to see snow anymore since I moved to a sandbar in Florida. Saving my cash for a round trip to Zurich!❤
@davidarnold290 Hello. Good luck for the trip..😊
These beauties never get old. As a railroad nut I noticed they had dropped new ballast on the south side. After the weather warms it would be interesting to know if they will tamp and level at night or have work windows during the day.
@PCBill0622 There is always something new along the way...
@WalterKuhn-pb2rd Yes, it looked like spring in Tirano, but it was in the middle of the winter on the Swiss side.
🏆🙏🤗💙
Thank you for sharing this
@drmarkintexas-400 Welcome!
@jockrangeos You are welcome. It is a great ride across very different landscapes.
Thanks again for another beautiful video.
@BruceBowman-wz9or My pleasure!
Immer wieder gigantisch. Gut so!
@luciaclemens5269 That is very good.
Beautiful thank you!!!
@KryniaM My pleasure!
Beautiful view mountains and snow .
@nerkonator It really is!
My dream profession. It's just a dream to be a train driver in this magical land. 🥰🤩
@p5z91 It Yes, it is a very beautiful land and it must be wonderful to ride along those lines.
Impressive ride on high altitude, thank you uploading this good quality!

Another ggod ride ! Thanks RR. 😀👍
@billy3424 Glad you enjoyed it.

@cordialifetecchie Thank you! Cheers!
Wonderful video. Can we encourage you to travel to other areas, like SE Asia? Your video quality and the world of trains is a great match!
@jimcolleran1804 Thank you for your encouragement. I am planning some longer trips in the future already.
I like being a 'recliner' train operator at home watching these in cab videos and seeing the changing seasons.
I wonder how often they have to replace the galvanized beams and poles on the sides of the railways due to rust.
@murrayparr3244 I don't have that information. I guess they have to paint it often not to rust.
Thanks for watching.
the video is amazing
@24painkiller Thanks. The line is amazing too.
Great I already drive this route on Train Simulator 4 😊
@flox1514 Nice 👍
Danke dir
@christianlimi70 Bitte schon.
Travelled all the line between Tirano and St. Moritz in June 2021
@pietrocarz93 It is a great experience, isn't it?
Es geht nicht besser,.....danke!!!
@gurkenhobel4197 You are welcome.
@Stas1661 Thanks.
@sergiomoretuzzo975 Hopefully soon.
The correct name of the river is Poschiavino
@Luigi-uj5ml Thank you for your correction.
Your videos are amazing bro
@transportlegend.shorts I appreciate that!
@@RailRelaxation it’s true, the attention to detail is immaculate
@transportlegend.shorts Thank you,
@@RailRelaxation very welcome 😁
Thank you for a STUNNING trainride, one question tho: Do yer ever getting spring down there?
@Thedane2023 Yes, they do. I have never been there in spring, but in the summer is very beautiful too.
Looks like this year had very little wind. There are not the mega drifts seen in previous years (loco deep). The snow profile across the track, on the down side, shows four plow widths. One loco, one low height double blade push plow (as in photo) , 2 moving head rotary (2 passes)?
@briancooper562 This was filmed at the begging of January, I think it was snowing a lot more after that.
@Evertonmz94 Realmente uma linha extraordinária.
Hope the driver's feeling OK, sound like he has a few sniffles
@NigelCopy I am sure he is ok.
If you watched the whole video you will have noticed that from the second third onwards there were no longer any coughing or sneezing noises...
On the contrary: sometimes you think you hear a humming sound - and you wonder whether it might be coming from the engine of the locomotive 🤔
I suspect something else: the wonderful view in the most wonderful morning weather has activated the train driver's self-healing powers and he is humming happily and cheerfully... 😉😂
Really great video with optimal weather and filming conditions - thank you very much for that 👍🙏😊
@@wandajackson3410 😊
Thank you for an absolutely stunning video. I just came across this and i did subscribe immediately. Thank you again, but one question:
1:33:13 Is that Charles driving his uncles Ferrari van?
@DaPanda1980 Thank you for subscribing. About the Ferrari question, I have no idea..
@@RailRelaxationIt's ok, it was just a Formula 1 joke about Charles Leclerc, because that van had Leclerc on its side, yeah well and Italy and the colour red (because of the red cabin of the van)
@DaPanda1980 😊
16.08...saya suka banget...👍👍👍🙏
@pakharmanto2104 I am glad.
❤❤❤❤
I am glad you liked it.
I was wondering why this train stopped *WAY* past the station building at Morteratsch until I realized Bernina Railway RhB trains in winter can be quite long with ten cars per train.
By the way, I find it kind of strange one of the trains going in the opposite direction had a Conrad-Storz liquid petroleum tanker coupled to the back of the train. Are we sure that's actually safe?
@Sacto1654 It should be safe. I would say even safer that transport on the road.
👍👍👍❤
@lucia9084 Thanks.
Danke
@migglatzer Danke.
🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝❤️
@allebello6785 Thank you.
Question: At 00:51 what does "switching to rail conductor" mean? The track looks the same (no 3rd rail) and there are still overhead wires - so what changes there? TIA.
Incredible... when this trip happened ?
@fabriziocroce1248 It was filmed in January this year.
How steep is the gradient,and some names of places and litle info???
@tiismaa44 Thank you for your suggestion.
@@RailRelaxation You're welcome. My last suggestion would be the Euro City between Dresden and Prag. I think the line is also very beautiful. Best regards
@tiismaa44 😊
@gmgm7746 work on the line ....
@@RailRelaxation What was the reason of surveying the pylons?
@@gmgm7746 Sorry, I don't know the reason.
@@RailRelaxation You do not,
know, but I do.
Kada ste u Hrvatskoj zanimljivo izgledaju ovakve relacije
@user-er2kr3dm8m svakako.
@JurgenStrauss-ow2ge Displayed data is GPS based, it is not always accurate, but it gives us an idea about the altitude.
Trotzdem danke
@christianreimann4652 You are welcome.
Nice ride, but please, please, please turn off the horizontal image stabilization of the camera. It is horrible when the end-buffers run out of space in each and every turn.
@rhkavli Thanks for the tip.
I miss the old days when on this channel you could find a new rail line with each videos...unfirtunately nowadays it seems only record of already seen routes :(
I have to agree, it feels we're getting only austra and switzerland for a long time now
@DeathMagnetic666Kirk I have filmed this line before, in the summer and in the winter it was the video in the opposite direction. I think the videos from summer and winter are so different, the landscape changes so much...
@trainrailfan671 I am doing my best, soon I will get something very exotic again...😊
Different direction, time of day, and time of year all allow for varied experience.
@ronm3245 😊
Why the clickbait and the total fucked up edit?
