In this 4K 60fps HDR video, driver's view of the train journey to Grindelwald village from Kleine Scheidegg [asl 2,061 m or 6,762 ft], passing through beautiful chalets and landscapes of Grindelwald, is presented. This video offers stunning natural surroundings of Swiss Alps assimilated with the sound of cowbells, fresh mountain breeze, and majestical views from the driver's seat. Enjoy :)
The Kleine Scheidegg is located directly at the foot of Eiger North Face. It is the watershed between the two Lütschinen valleys. It is a popular starting point for the Jungfrau train to the Jungfraujoch-Top of Europe station, the highest train station of Europe. This hiking paradise can be reached from Grindelwald, Wengen and Lauterbrunnen villages via Wengernalp railway trains or via hiking from these villages. It offers a walking area surrounded by timeless beauty at the foot of the mighty Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, trio mountains located in the Jungfrau region of Swiss Alps. Along high-altitude footpaths, one can walk/hike to Mannlichen (90 minutes; Easy hike) or to Eigergletscher.

Switzerland, Austria, and all of Southern Germany is the most beautiful land on Earth, the engineering and pride these people take in their country and railroads is unmatched.
And I say the Rocky Mountains are even more majestic. And I've been to all three of the places you just mentioned. So it's subjective, innit?
@@slowneutron6163 This may be true, but what about dining in an Italian restaurant after a day of hiking? This is what I liked the most about South Tyrol, but I have never been on the other side of the Atlantic. The nature in the Rockys must be epicly wild from what I have heard.

Amazing, but my favorite will always be the Lauterbrunnen - Wengen - Kleine Scheidegg line! I will remember watching the trains stopping at the station in Wengen from my hotel room in Hotel Victoria for the rest of my life!

I remember the old brown and cream train to Lauterbrunnen. It used to split on the move and one half would go in a different direction (Grindelwald?)

My late father was stationed with the US Navy in Switzerland during World War II. He spoke many times of how beautiful the country was and it is quite evident in this video.

I’ve never seen a train run on such steep grades. That toothed rail is doing an incredible job!
And when they go downhill they regenerate electricity, just like an EV. It's an efficient system.
I was wondering if that was a gear set in the middle. Makes sense considering the grade as well as the funky noise. Very neat.
@@phillipzx3754 not sure if they feed energy back into the grid on these old lines. Most of the rail cards I saw on that particular line carried large resistor grids on their roof, indicating they the burn the energy just up as heat.
The new units do feed back energy. The old ones aren't in use anymore other than pushing maintenance cars /occasional rushhour relief in Wintertime. Since a few Years now here in Switzerland, Wheelchair/Handicapped accessability is mandatory by Law on all public Transports/Buildings/whatever, so the old ones are ruled out of Service already ust by that Law alone...@@kaihorstmann2783

I've watched a lot of "Driver's view" videos, but this absolutely the *best* I've ever seen. The cable cars travelling thru the scene at around 8:15 added a touch of hi-tech sci-fi over a primal landscape.

What neat and tidy infrastructure all around. It's like a massive and well thought out model of an ideal fusion of modern man and landscape.
I rode Eiger Express 2023 October and it's interesting to see this train that ran along the mountain and through all of the "covered" sections.

Great train ride, and almost like being there.
I could already breathe the fresh mountain air along with the cattle on the sides of the tracks too.
That country side is far better than where I live in the United States

You probably get a better view going down than going up. I love the laid back attitude of the cows, even if it does clash slightly with the famous Swiss precision.
Train still reached on time, as there is some buffer time to accommodate minor delays.
But they are precisely cows.
What beautiful Mountain scenery your Mountains make the Mts here in Pa of the US look almost like hills in comparison. Will defiantly watch more thanks for the ride.

Lovely video! It's amazing how the cow is not bothered by the train at all. Of course you don't get that sort of problem with the Eiger Express but then that's part of the charm of the train journey. I hope the line stays in business against the competition - I travelled on it once years ago and would love to do it again!

The Train and Eiger Express are owned by the same company. But oh my those pylons stick out in the landscape.
Stunningly beautiful; I love these type of videos. For those interested in the technical aspect; the Jungfraubahn uses the "Strub" rack system, a single toothed rack. It is one of the simplest rack railway systems but as you can hear, it is rather noisy, esp. as the trains seem to be travelling (relatively) 'fast'. There exist quieter systems such as the "Abt" system which uses multiple toothed rack bars with offset teeth.
Incidentally, what is the operating procedure if the cows refuse to move? Just wait until they do?
